LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (The Sky Pilots), A New Local Band, And More Recent Updates!!

I hope everyone is having a good Easter Sunday! Whether you could call a new SMS post an Easter treat is debatable, but I do have a new news post to check out, including new videos and updates from two bands featuring Fitswitch alumni, LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS for the E.U.P. next month, and leading off, a new addition to our Sault Ontario band links, so here's what you should know, whether you'd found your Easter eggs or not!

Fresh off of their live concert debut yesterday at Beck's Bar, we can now add new local hard rock quartet 5 Dollar Bribe to our active band links, as they have launched a Facebook page! They were already on Instagram and TikTok, but neither platform is as feature-rich and intentionally designed for usage as a formal band page. There's not much on their Facebook page yet, but a video of them covering 3 Doors Down's "Loser" at Beck's is floating around on personal Facebook accounts. While they have more unexpected band choices in their repertoire, how often to you see 3 Doors Down covers locally? It is a well done cover if you can find it, and R.I.P. Brad Arnold, of course. In terms of new public content, 5.D.B. did post some new "meet the band" images on Instagram where you can learn more about the members' favourite bands (Tyler pulls some real deep cuts!) and other roles.

Their only new video since we first spotlighted Five Dollar Bribe on the SMS is embedded below, where half of the band do a comedy sketch to promote the matinee gig at Beck's and a contest to win an official band t-shirt (had you liked and tagged the post on Instagram or TikTok, you'd have been entered for a chance). Next up, here are those LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS, as Munising, Michigan classic/hard rock cover quintet The Sky Pilots will return to our area for concerts on Friday, May 29th and Saturday, May 30th at The Northern Pines Lounge at the St. Ignace Kewadin Casino! The only brand new hard rock-leaning shows announced in either regional Kewadin branch's entertainment pages through the next two months, these will be The Sky Pilots' first St. Ignace shows since early November, though I must profusely apologize, as they also returned to The Rapids Lounge in Sault Ste. Marie for concerts on March 13th and 14th, as per their Facebook page. I've gotta keep better tabs on The Sky Pilots, especially as they played here in the E.U.P. five times last year, and are fronted by former Electric Motor Fish/Swayze Train singer Melissa Strand, so I am sorry for missing last month's gigs, but I hope they were a huge hit!

Of note, last month's shows were actually the Pilots' first concerts of 2026, regardless of locale. Next month's shows do not fall on the Memorial Day long weekend, which is the week prior this year. As usual for Kewadin lounge gigs, these are at 9:00 PM with 21+ age limits and no cover charges. Also today, here's an update from a band that we haven't talked about on the SMS in months, namely Sault Ontario/Barrie crossover thrash band Spades GT! There is a reason why updates dried up from their camp, and while I have not seen an official public statement about what happened, what I would characterize as "sudden personal differences" arose in mid-December, and I'll leave it there pending 100% public word from the band about their future or lack thereof. Their last show (to date?) was at C.W. Coop's in Barrie on December 13th where they opened for Pale Horse Ritual, and what happened internally arose before they could post a recap video from that show or their November 14th gig with Anvil in Delhi. However, I did find something brand new that I'm surprised that the former Jack Spades never promoted, as they featured on a live album last year! Fans will know that Spades frequently travelled to Meyersburg in Southern Ontario for the annual Spiderfest, which is the basis of this Bandcamp-exclusive album.

The "name your price" album "Spiderfest 2024 RP001" was released on June 11th, and it features one live cut each (in performance order) from the 2024 festival lineup, with past local headliners Random Killing, The Ripcordz, and The Bunchofuckingoofs among the 23 included bands. This rendition of "Succubus" from 2023's "Sewer City Radio" features the band's summer 2024 lineup, including then-new guitarist Matthew Voros and the soon-to-depart James Roy Daley on bass. Strong (if quick) performance with really nice recording quality across the board, so give this punk compilation a listen above, and we'll let you know if Spades GT clarify their status publically!

We'll close today with new videos from local doom/sludge duo The Spaceship Opening's Facebook page! One of the videos features an off-camera Andrew MacDonald testing his new bass cab, and while the musicality of it is debatable, he is getting deep powerful bass out of it (ask what appears to be a burned out match midway through!) The other video is another live recording from the same concert seen in their first two official public videos (which is apparently "all we have" as of Friday). I did want to clarify as to what event their three performance videos actually come from, as the event took place before I could verify The Spaceship Opening's sound/genre. This was a fundraiser for the Sault Theatre Workshop on November 29th, where they and DJ Seith opened for comedy rock band The Floor Between Us, who also headlined a show there the previous day with a different opener lineup.

No word on who November 28th openers A.D.H.D. are, but that name alone will make it hard to look them up! Kudos to all involved for supporting the Sault Theatre Workshop and their programming, and you can see videos of The Floor Between Us that weekend on their new Facebook page! As for The Spaceship Opening, this video actually features Andrew on vocals, so they're not an instrumental-only band. It is a little faster and punkier than their prior two songs, but it's hard to get a sense for Andrew's vocal capabilities, as he sings in a relative monotone that, while well suited to alt-rock, may not show his full range. Not a bad drum-and-bass number, so give it a watch below, and stay tuned for more from Andrew & Ralph!

Where Are The New Albums? (April 2026 Update)

After a slight delay following weekend concert previews, here's our monthly "Where Are The New Albums?" post, featuring the most recent public updates on the whereabouts of announced upcoming albums and EPs from local metal, hard rock, and punk acts! This month, we're adding one upcoming album, and to note that and an entry with updated info, look for titles in italics. So, where are the new albums? Read on below to hopefully find out!

The BAG - Sacculus

Rumoured Songs: "Eccentric Refuge", "Our Rock"

Background: Immediately launching in the summer of 2022 with original music in their back pocket, local metal trio The BAG (featuring With Gunfire and Jupiter Marvelous members) quickly released their first studio single "Eccentric Refuge" to major streaming services, with "Our Rock" following in 2023. The BAG didn't confirm that an album was in the works until October of 2025, when they revealed the cover artwork for their debut album "Sacculus" on their Facebook page, also confirming at the time that the whole album was already done mixing and mastering. These were the band's only proper updates about their own activity, album or otherwise, in the second half of 2025. It's not clear if their first studio singles will be included on "Sacculus", and if so, if they were re-recorded in last year's recording sessions.

Current Release Status: The BAG confirmed in December that they will release "Sacculus" on Saturday, April 18th via an album release party at Soo Blaster, though specifics on the track listing, price, and formats are all forthcoming. It will be great to see the fruits of Spencer, Austin, and Bradley's quiet work last year finally out for fans to hear in two weeks, so stay tuned for more updates on the impending release!

Bone Yard 225's debut album

Rumoured Songs: "F.A.F.O.", "Gypsy Spell", "Fuck!", "I Took A Pill In Ibiza" (Mike Posner cover)

Background: After months of teasers that they were planning to record original music, local southern hard rock cover trio Bone Yard 225 began releasing their own songs on major streaming services in July 2024, fifteen years after the pre-225 band debuted as a country cover quartet. Their first three singles (all recorded at their home studio) were posted online by January 2025, though it took until May for the band to confirm on their Facebook page that they were indeed working on a proper album. It's not immediately clear if their existing three singles will be included, but it's not a given, as Jonesy Land fans saw with "Zoom-Out". As of August 11th, it was reportedly "album tracking time", while this video from three days later shows bandmates Alex D'Ettore & Warren Reville recording backing vocals for their cover of Mike Posner's "I Took A Pill In Ibiza". That will be one of "a couple of covers" for the album, as confirmed by frontman Greg Simpson during recent concerts. "Fuck!" was renamed "The F Word" on streaming services in December, but it's not clear if the less explicit name will stick on the album. The band was still "in the studio finishing shit" as of December 4th, source here.

Current Release Status: In that Facebook post from May 30th, your local 225 said that "the album is coming along nicely", and they hoped to release it "by the end of 2025", but Greg has since adjusted the timeframe to "early 2026" when mentioning it during live shows. While singer/drummer Greg Simpson did release an EP with his old band Stiffler's Mom, it's hard to compare the release methods and schedule given that "The Demo" came out in 2004. It is neat to see that Greg, Alex, and Warren are going all in on a studio album, and stay tuned for updates as they roll in!

Chase James Wigmore - The Chaotic Rite

Rumoured Songs: "The Cities Alive & It's Angry"

Background: Ever the prolific artist & songwriter, local folk punk/extreme metal musician Chase Wigmore has been working on an extensive rock opera for years (once claimed to be a 33 part work), originally named "A Story About A Kid Named Todd". Worked on in between his other unrelated solo albums, released for sale or otherwise, Chase posted a lengthy elaboration of the rock opera in 2022, now titled "The Chaotic Rite", outlining its concept, recording plans, and long-term release timeline. Clips of songs have surfaced on his Facebook page, as have full songs not explicitly tied to the album, as well as the final artwork. In more recent promotion, Chase has hinted that "The Chaotic Rite" might be his final solo album as part of aims to focus on his personal life more than his prolific original material. Regardless, the final product has been pared down to 25-30 minutes.

Current Release Status: Chase elaborated on Facebook in mid-2024 that the album was 95% done earlier that year when the files "got trapped on my desktop's hard drive", and he had been unable to procure a backup of the material or recover the files as of that post. In any event, three of the full songs uploaded to Facebook in 2023 were clarified as not being planned for "The Chaotic Rite", but they could surface on a separate EP. Fingers crossed that Chase is able to save this album and put it out when able, especially given the years that he's put into the making of it!

Convergence - In Bloom

Rumoured Songs: "Gemini", "The Ebb", "In Bloom", "Breaking News", "It Ate The F&$%ing Moon", "Kraken Mara", "You Are Not Flesh", "Dead & Dreaming", "Dig Up Your Ghost", "Glass Statues", "Awake"

Background: Just over a month after releasing their sophomore EP "Dead And Dreaming", local progressive metal band Convergence announced in February 2024 that EP #3 would be named "Gemini", with its cover artwork being released at the same time. Teaser clips of most songs from the EP were posted on their Facebook page and their YouTube channel throughout much of 2024, but most prior media was wiped as they retooled as a full band, now including singer Stephen Gagnon-Ruscio and drummer David Peredun. Convergence worked in studio last year with producer Dustin Goodall at Unsalted Audio, documenting the sessions in Facebook "Reels", eventually confirming in concert that the EP (now named "In Bloom") is still in progress, with Adam Roxner mixing the songs in Sweden. A new version of "The Ebb" (from "Dead And Dreaming") was released to streaming services on Christmas Day, while the song "Gemini" followed last month. As "Dead And Dreaming" was delisted from streaming, the possibility of Convergence doing full versions of its other four songs for this album has been hinted at, and other songs from that EP have been played live with the full band.

Current Release Status: No clue, and given the complexity of their music yet their independent studio trappings so far, that could bode a quick or lengthy timeline for "In Bloom" to come out, depending on what angle you take. Since their modern studio cycle commenced in 2023, things have been relatively steady for Brendan and Jake as a recording act, and here's hoping that Convergence keep that up for their third offering!

Fort Creek's debut album

Rumoured Songs: "One For The Road", "Sweet Rosie"

Background: Local southern/hard rock band Fort Creek have sporadically teased plans to record an EP since February 2020, but they wouldn't release any samples until almost two years later when they shared (now-deleted) clips of their original song "Hammer Down" on their Facebook page. The guys would play it regularly at concerts from 2022-2023, with studio sessions taking place in early-mid 2023 as well. After the departure of bassist Robin "Bones" Lee and drummer Anthony Fabiano in the fall of 2023, Fort Creek opted to abandon material recorded with them "as a show of good faith", and have been working on new material and rebuilding their studio over the past two years. Now featuring Phil Greco on drums, their first single (the acoustic "One For The Road") was posted online in January 2025, with the band confirming plans to now record a 10 song album at Jettison Studios prior to returning to live concerts. Their new single "Sweet Rosie" was being recorded as of August 31st, and a teaser of the song was posted to their Facebook page on New Year's Eve.

Current Release Status: Prior release timelines for their debut EP reflected their early 2020s lineup's material, and Justin, Shane, Bill, and Phil have largely kept things somewhat close to the vest prior to putting out "One For The Road". There are a lot of unknowns, especially given the 6+ years of production time and their decision to basically start over in 2023, and that this is a band that was primarily known for their work on the weekend cover circuit before their rhythm section left. It will be interesting to see how things develop, so stay tuned for updates!

Mike McCleary's new album

Rumoured Songs: Unknown

Background: Background: A talented studio hard rock musician who has released multiple solo albums in the past (albeit almost entirely delisted from streaming services as his musical approach and personal life changed), Mike McCleary announced plans to record an instrumental album in 2023, but after a year+ public hiatus, he opted to shelve that unfinished album in 2025 in favour of a new album with vocals. He signed with Swedish indie label Rexius Records, with plans to put out an 8 song album covering "a variety of topics" and featuring "some fun, catchy, and energetic rock music for everyone to enjoy". A teaser video from the sessions was posted onto his Facebook page on December 6th, and in his most recent update from February, the planned first single had been recorded and was in the mixing process.

Current Release Status: Your guess is as good as mine, but as this is is a one-man project likely aimed at streaming services, this album could pop up at any time. The Rexius Records connection is a variable though, but Mike is a strong musician with morals and a lot to say about himself, and hopefully this album comes out successfully in the near future!

LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (B.A. Johnston, Bone Yard 225, Generations, And Soundcheck!!)

Plans to put up this month's "Where Are The New Albums?" post today have been slightly delayed due to SHORT NOTICE LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS, so here's what you should know on that front today as well as some other newly announced shows taking place later this spring!

Local classic/hard rock cover quartet Soundcheck will return to Reggie's Place for Easter long weekend concerts TONIGHT (yes, they're open for Good Friday) and TOMORROW NIGHT! Apologies for the short notice, the band only announced these shows via their Facebook page at 12:47 PM today, and Reggie's never corroborated them on Facebook. These will be the second and third shows from Soundcheck in a six day span, following their also-announced-that-day concert on Monday at Beck's Bar as an unofficial Goo Goo Dolls replacement event, and yes, they did indeed have Separate Wayz frontwoman/bandmate Nicole Thibodeau on hand that night for an "epic crossover". Kudos to all five members of the two sister bands for jumping on board that short notice gig, and hopefully there was a decent turnout despite the work night scheduling! TONIGHT & TOMORROW'S shows appear to be Soundcheck only.

Two weeks removed from Travis, Terry, Jim, and Johnny's last shows at Reggie's, TONIGHT & TOMORROW's concerts will see the classic and hard rock cover attack take the stage at 9:30 PM with no announced cover charges and 19+ age limits. Next up, we have a couple of new show announcements for later this month of the cover-leaning persuasion at The Water Tower Pub, who posted their April concert calendar on their Facebook page earlier today! We already knew about Quite Frankly's show there on April 11th thanks to that band's own advertising, but SMS readers may want to circle the following weekend on their calendars, starting with the return of southern hard rock trio Bone Yard 225 on Friday, April 17th! Last seen at Smitty's for St. Patrick's Day, this will be Greg, Alex, and Warren's first show at the Great Northern Road nightclub since late January. Your local 225 have been oddly quiet since mid-February, only playing the one "uncorked" concert in the interim (the April 17th show will also be acoustic, as usual there), and only having plugs for that event and a couple of frontman Greg Simpson's new "Ranting Rockstar" social media posts since, where he offers his own pearls of wisdom about life and music.

No word on when we'll see the full electric Bone Yard show again (last seen on Valentine's Day at Beck's), but hopefully their Water Tower Pub show is a sign of more gigs to come, and that their album is still in progress! As usual for this venue, expect an 8:00 PM start time, 19+ age limit, and no cover on the 17th. See above for more details!

As usual, The Water Tower Pub hosts different nightly acts, and the Saturday, April 18th booking belongs to local classic/hard rock cover quartet Generations! Now, I will preface this by noting that the band has not yet corroborated this booking on their Facebook group, and haven't even posted there since March 9th, despite playing at The Kiln in the interim. Assuming all is well in their camp, this will be Generations' first show at this venue since late February, and hopefully fans get another entertaining classic and hard rock mix from this union of Jus' Chillin and Obsession alumni! Like with Bone Yard 225 the previous day, expect this to be a 19+ event with no cover charge and a start time of 8:00 PM. We'll close with a newly announced concert from a familiar touring artist, but not at a venue you may expect, as Hamilton outsider folk/acoustic punk musician B.A. Johnston will return to the Soo on Saturday, May 23rd at... The Esquire Club? It is very strange to see a touring act, let alone a show expected to have at least one opener, at this Second Line West mainstay, but B.A. is infamous for never playing at the same venue twice in his Sault Ste. Marie stops (seven by my count, at least sixteen by his). B.A. last played at Venue on Queen Street East in May of last year, and if you're unfamiliar with his shows, expect his proudly Canadian, self-deprecating, Hawkins Cheezies-loving, and deeply humorous live set to turn heads once again, and my description of his shows will never do them justice. The support act (if not acts) is to be announced, but note that Silent 9 have been scheduled for May 22nd and 23rd at The Esquire Club since last year. We'll keep their May 22nd show in our calendar for now, but we'll let you know if the May 23rd gig's status is clarified. Despite the proximity to May 24th, this show does not fall on the Victoria Day long weekend. It is a 9:00 PM concert with a 19+ age limit, and while his Venue show last year had an admission fee, this year's B.A. show will have no cover. This should be a fun time next month, so visit the official Facebook event page for more details, and go check out his videos on YouTube to get a better sampling of his live experience! LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Tym Morrison & HeadF1rst) And Easter Weekend Concert Previews!!

The Easter long weekend is shaping up to be quiet for hard rock-leaning concerts, but we do have a packed post, including SHORT NOTICE LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS and a surprise band breakup announcement, all at the same venue, no less! I also want to mention that Maynard Hayes bassist Gabrielle Abulencia's graduation recital from the Algoma Conservatory of Music (which is a public concert) takes place tonight at The Loft, so click here for details on what to expect, and congratulations in advance! Now, here's what you should know for full rock concerts this weekend!

Local hard rock quintet HeadF1rst will play their "final bar concert" on SATURDAY NIGHT at Beck's Bar! Apologies for the short notice, the band only announced this show via their Facebook page on Monday. The band revealed that they want "to announce this band's retirement", and while they did not elaborate on a reason for the decision, "they say (that) all good things must come to an end, but the music lives on forever". The wording (in combination with what members said on personal Facebook postings) does leave the door open for a further farewell concert not at a bar, but the finality implications are there regardless. It is worth noting that guitarist Raine Rancourt posted on the Musicians Wanted Facebook group last week looking for a bassist for a new project that he is working on with (former?) Handsome Sandwich singer Taylor Emlaw and an unspecified second guitarist & drummer, but I don't know how related that new band is to HeadF1rst's fate.

This news is extra surprising because members of HeadF1rst had just served as the opening night judges for the returning Shooters Downstairs Lounge Talent Quest karaoke competition on Sunday, but their activity had slowed down over the winter, playing just three (mostly short notice) nightclub gigs since the beginning of December, not counting THIS SATURDAY. Originally spelled as HeadFirst, this group became a highlight of the local rock scene since their mid-2023 launch, which saw them release two albums, play at Rotaryfest Stage 2 and Toystock twice each, hit the road as far away as Sudbury, and open for touring bands like Avessel, Blood Opera, and Woodhawk, so they packed a lot into a sub-3 year run. HeadF1rst are a talented group of guys (and girl) who had a nice classic influence on their originals and cover choices, and it will be sad to see them disband, but you have at least one more chance on SATURDAY!

Despite the bittersweet nature, this is a standard SATURDAY NIGHT concert at the former Vibe Lounge, with a 19+ age limit, 9:00 PM start time, and no cover charge. Between Raine's new band, Red's also-new project Bards With Beards, and the talent that Liam, Claire, and Anthony have, I'm sure we'll hear a lot more from all involved soon, but visit the above links for more details on HeadF1rst's swan song (at least for nightclubs) on SATURDAY! Next up, that's not all for late notice Beck's Bar gigs of a heavier persuasion this weekend, as prolific local classic/hard rock singer/guitarist Tym Morrison will bring his acoustic solo act back to the Goulais Avenue nightclub for a matinee show on Easter SUNDAY! Again, apologies for the short notice, this gig was only announced via the venue's Facebook page on Monday (as was the HeadF1rst show, albeit without referencing their breakup). Making his second live appearance since he finished healing up his broken pinky finger, SUNDAY's matinee show will be Tym's first at Beck's since ending his 2025 slate there on December 28th. Not Tym's most frequent venue in the mid-2020s, but it's good to see him back here after three+ months, so keep this one in mind if you want some early Easter SUNDAY entertainment! Given his increased focus on his faith in the 2020s, Easter is good timing for a concert too!

As usual for SUNDAY shows at Beck's, this is a 3:00 PM matinee gig (running until 7:00 PM) with a 19+ age limit and no cover.If you missed Tym's return show at The Dive, then welcome him back at Beck's on SUNDAY to cap off the long weekend! We'll circle back to SATURDAY to wrap up this post, albeit with a show that did get advance notice before Monday, as new local hard rock quartet Five Dollar Bribe will make their live concert debut in Beck's Bar's 3:00 PM matinee timeslot before HeadF1rst's concert that night! A change in protocol from acoustic matinee acts there, this reminds me of when Reggie's Place hosted another high school-aged hard rock band (One Shot) in August, but I haven't heard a peep from One Shot since that weekend. In Five Dollar Bribe's case, their lineup includes singer/bassist Randy Lundigran, singer/guitarist Jayce Albury, guitarist Tyler Greely, and drummer Chase Chapman, and you can check out current media via their Instagram and TikTok pages. From what I have seen of this band so far, they have a nicely developing sound, a sense of humour, and an eclectic cover range, with bands from Alice In Chains and System Of A Down to Hum and Dinosaur Jr. cited, among others

It will definitely be interesting to see how they go over, and the next generation will be the mainstays of the scene's future, so don't bypass them! Remember, Five Dollar Bribe aren't "opening" for HeadF1rst on Saturday, the two bands have separate four hour timeslots spaced two hours apart, but you can hang out to see both if you like. As with Tym Morrison the following day, Five Dollar Bribe are up from 3:00-7:00 PM on Saturday with no cover, and I'm not sure if this will technically be 19+ given their ages & the timeframe. Heavy Lies The Crown Updates From March 2026!!

Let's end March 2026 with a look at what St. Ignace deathcore quartet Heavy Lies The Crown have been up to this month! Before they kicked off their March tour run, they posted this vertical video on their Facebook page on March 2nd featuring jam footage of the band (sans Bubba), with Brandon manning the camera in literal selfie-mode at one point. Obviously, this is just a teaser, and I do have a hunch that there's a lot more that Brandon filmed here before it was edited down to 12 seconds, but give it a watch below!

On March 5th, the guys began their first tour run of 2026, which saw them play four Lower Peninsula dates in four days, none closer to the Soo than the tour opener in Bay City on the 5th. All four dates saw Heavy Lies The Crown play alongside their friends in Detroit metalcore band Nothing After This, whose bassist Rob Vandewiele served as a temporary fill-in with H.L.T.C. at their final 2025 gigs. Frontman Brandon West shot this 5 seconds-long video of everyone in their tour vehicle en route to Bay City, and it was raining en route, so they definitely didn't need the sunglasses seen in this video! Updates from that night's show or the March 6th concert in Chesterfield didn't immediately follow, but on the 7th, Brandon starred in this vertical update video, where he highlighted how the first two shows went, which also let them debut not just Bubba on bass, but also their new live rig, and things were loud on night #2.

Apparently, there was monsoon-level rain and tornado sightings in their area, and while their tonneau cover protecting their merchandise was torn, it's obviously a good thing that Heavy survived the heavy forecast intact! The guys had spent the night in Chesterfield and were on their way for show #3 in Battle Creek after that video went up, so give the update video a watch at this link! In their first live video with their current lineup, they posted this 18 second video from the Battle Creek show at The Music Factory, and while short and dark, it's a solid horizontal video that I wish was uploaded in a longer form factor! After "stomping their ground and making prints" in Battle Creek, Brandon starred in this vertical update video from the tour vehicle on March 8th to reflect on the previous night's gig, but he's hard to hear for much of the minute-long runtime (my best guess is he accidentally covered the microphone while recording). He also plugged the tour finale that night in Grand Rapids, and they definitely posted some neat photos on Facebook after the fact, so crawl their Facebook page since March 6th to see what they have uploaded from the four dates! Their next uploaded video from the tour comes from Heavy Lies The Crown's concert on March 6th at The Diesel Concert Lounge in Chesterfield (technically New Baltimore), which was their second and longest concert video with their current lineup as of its its upload on the 11th. Thankfully also horizontal (if still shorter than I'd like), it is a high quality recording while it lasts, and it sees the guys playing part of their classic title track "Knucklebutter".

The video description compares Brandon's scream here to a dolphin, raven, and/or a robot shutting down, but regardless, he has some power in that voice, so give this H.L.T.C. video a watch for yourselves below!

Unfortunately, their two most recent videos (a highlight of clips from the tour from March 15th and a similar longer video from March 20th) can't be embedded here because Facebook content matched the backing audio on both, as the band opted to sub in their newest studio original "Rewind" rather than let the raw concert audio speak for itself. This is high quality footage, why not post it in unedited raw form, especially to show off the new lineup for more than 38 seconds? The longer of the two (which also isn't forcibly crammed into the vertical "Reel" dimensions with pillarboxing) also has road footage from the tour and some video of the guys hanging out between concerts, so it's a nice sampler of what they got up to downstate, even if you don't actually hear what happened! In their most recent Facebook update, Heavy announced a surprise concert for this Saturday in Alpena, so what should you know there?

The guys will be among the openers for Alpena nu metal band Living Unwell at a "local DIY metal show" at Friendly Foodees, and while not their closest scheduled concert to the Soo ahead (their East Jordan show on May 3rd is a half hour closer), it is good to see Brandon, Jaxon, Bubba, and Blaze playing another Northern Michigan date! LOCAL CONCERT ALERT (Soundcheck) Plus New Videos!!

A second post today was not in the cards, but an extremely SHORT NOTICE LOCAL CONCERT ALERT fell into our laps, so here's what should you know there along with another new show and a pair of new videos!

Local classic/hard rock cover quartet Soundcheck will play a special Monday nighter at Beck's Bar TONIGHT! Apologies for the short notice, this show was only announced three hours ago on the venue's Facebook page. The very late notice weeknight booking is basically Beck's' attempt to capitalize on the late cancellation of tonight's Goo Goo Dolls concert at GFL Memorial Gardens due to a band member illness (source here). This way, if you were planning to see a concert tonight, you don't have to cancel plans if you don't want to. TONIGHT'S concert is even better timed than this past weekend's Jay's shows were for Terry & Travis' birthdays this week, so give them good birthday wishes if you can come out! Note that, when Soundcheck plugged TONIGHT's show on Facebook, they did so using this image featuring both their AI-generated band logo as well as that of their sister band Separate Wayz, implying that Nicole will also be on hand.

Neither Beck's nor Soundcheck have firmly confirmed that Nicole/Separate Wayz will be joining in for an "epic crossover" beyond that image, but keep things in mind! Everything goes down TONIGHT at Beck's on Goulais Avenue from 8:00 PM "til the party stops" (a.k.a. 12:00 AM), this is a 19+ event, and there is no cover charge. Kudos to Becky and Soundcheck (and Nicole?) for coming together to ensure that there is some live rock music to check out even with the Goo Goo Dolls cancellation, so visit the above links for more details, and for a preview, here's Soundcheck live!

Next up, here's a newly announced concert with plenty of advance notice, as local classic/hard rock cover quintet Headrush will return to The Full Throttle Saloon for one night only on Saturday, April 25th, courtesy of the venue's Facebook page! Next month's show comes fresh on the heels of Headrush's return to the concert stage after a two month break this past Saturday, and things definitely went well over the weekend, so look for more of the same party anthems and epic rock all night long at the end of April! As usual for their Full Throttle Saloon gigs, next month's show will be a 9:00 PM event with a 19+ age limit and no cover charge. Visit the above links for more details, and while we're on the subject, the venue's Facebook page uploaded a new video of Headrush (one word) live there on Saturday! Normally, I'd wait for our next preview of one of their shows (April 25th or otherwise), but you can't see the band well and it's short, so what all is actually in this clip?

This video features 10 seconds of Headrush covering Bon Jovi's "Runaway", and while short, muffled, vertical, and from a side-stage angle that better accentuates attendees than the band, what we do hear isn't bad while it lasts! And while framing a vertical video like this to include that much ceiling is never ideal, at least the Full Throttle staffer who shot it added in descriptive text overtop of the ceiling, so it's not entirely wasted space. We'll close today with new videos, starting with a brand new original song from local classic/hard rock musician Tym Morrison's YouTube channel! Freshly premiering tonight, this is "Deep In My Heart", a love song that Tym wrote in his 20s but only just finished this year. This ballad is accompanied by a lyric video full of stock/AI footage, but the song is all Tym's doing. The percussion may be a little loud compared to the emotional resonance of his vocals, but it's a well composed love song, and it's good to see Tym staying busy in the studio even as he just ended his 6+ week break from concerts, so give it a watch below, and stay tuned for more from him!

Finally, here's the third public video from newer local sludge/doom metal duo The Spaceship Opening's Facebook page! Uploaded last week, this is from the same event seen in their previous black & white clip (reportedly a Sault Theatre Workshop fundraiser that completely passed me by in November), and it captures a 3+ minute instrumental that harbours more of a 1990s alternative flavour, if still leaning into sludge metal. Andrew does face away from the audience a lot here (reminds me of early AlgomA shows in that way), but it's a solid performance that fans accustomed to two-man bands will get a kick out, so check out some more "east end rock & roll" below!

LOCAL CONCERT ALERT (The Go North Music Festival!!)

Single topic post today thanks to a big LOCAL CONCERT ALERT, as Juno Award-nominated Saskatoon blues/hard rock band Wide Mouth Mason will (as far as I'm aware) make their first ever local concert appearance as one of the co-headliners of the eighth annual Go North Music Festival on Saturday, July 25th! A staple of Canadian rock radio and MuchMusic in the late 1990s thanks to hit songs like "My Old Self", "Why", and "Smile", it will be neat to finally welcome Shaun, Safwan, and crew to our area (if not the Soo proper) this summer, and their jam-friendly alt-rock sound and distinct vocals still set them apart! Wide Mouth Mason are really the only hard rock-leaning outpost for this year's festival, which didn't have anything that really crossed our radar in 2025 (when it was headlined by Big Sugar, featuring former W.M.M. bassist Gordie Johnson). Presented by SooToday & 104.3 The Fox, this annual event returns to the old Cornfest site at Centennial Grounds in Richards Landing on St. Joseph Island for two nights of music.

As seen on the poster, the headlining Saturday band this year is Juno-winning Halifax indie rock quintet Wintersleep (of "Weighty Ghost" and "Amerika" fame), who have also never played in the Soo area before. While their name sounds heavier than they are, Wintersleep are a very talented and acclaimed band, so don't bypass them this summer! Also making their way to St. Joseph Island in four months are three acts from Toronto, namely alt-indie trio Jackie, pop rock musician Loviet, and alternative singer/guitarist Keegan Powell, who should also make some waves with their skill sets and rising national profiles! Your only local band on July 25th is CASS FM, the Central Algoma Secondary School student rock band (a'la Mustang Sally), who are multi-time veterans of Go North, if with a lot of lineup turnover. As well, London children's music group The Thinking Caps will return to headline the kids stage that afternoon.

The night #1 lineup on Friday, July 24th has more local ties despite only having three acts, those being fan favourite Niagara Falls brass/funk collective My Son The Hurricane (still featuring former Rising Tide drummer Danno O'Shea), Oakville country/soul hybrid duo Yassin & Sean Terrio, and local indie rock quartet Lucy's Diner (née The Hollow Heads). Along with the announced musicians, attendees can also expect to find local art and food vendors amongst the outdoor surroundings on Centennial Grounds, and if you're bringing the kids, there will be interactive Science North exhibits, games, crafts, and a mural that everyone can help paint at the family zone. Timeslots for the individual acts are not out yet, but gates open on Friday at 6:00 PM and Saturday at 3:00 PM, and bands are projected to wrap up nightly by 11:00 PM. On-site camping is absolutely available as usual, and a fireside jam will again be held after hours.

Advance tickets are now on sale at this link, and minus online processing fees, day passes run for $40 on Friday and $70 on Saturday ($20 and $25 respectively for teenagers 13-18 or students under 25 with valid student ID). Camping passes for 2 or 4 adults for the whole weekend or Saturday only are also available (kids/teens are free to camp thusly but must be with an adult), but these do not include festival tickets, which are a separate purchase. $15 premium parking passes are also available if you want to get a really close spot, but this is an optional bonus. Discount bundles for two adults with camping & premium parking are also available. It is great to see the Go North Fest back for year #8, and while they have had heavier lineups, there's a lot of established and up & coming names to watch out for here, so definitely visit the above links for more on this year's event an hour east of the Soo! It's finally time for this month's YouTube Channel Profile, as again shine a light on a YouTube channel whose content is at least half devoted to local metal, hard rock, and/or punk concerts/artists, as randomly chosen from our YouTube subscriptions! This month's selection takes us to Sault Michigan (well, by way of the Lower Peninsula) for a look at a prominent local musician's YouTube output from the late 2000s through the ensuing decade, so here's what you should know!

Channel Summary: A personal use channel, Craig noted in the description that, as he is "a composer, singer, songwriter, adventurer, etc..., my channel has a bit of weird variety". Most of his 34 videos include in-studio performances, either jams/rehearsals with bandmates or solo performances on keyboard and sometimes vocals. Craig's channel also includes two live concert videos (one of him on stage, one of the mosh pit at a 3 Inches Of Blood show in Detroit), some studio samplers and introductions for Theatre Of Night, and non-musical videos ranging from a comedic rap song to outdoor sports-centric to a timelapse drawing of a zombie to one featuring corrections officers from over 25 years ago.

Why You Should Watch: This channel will primarily be of interest to fans of Craig's 2010s work in Theatre Of Night, giving a bit of a behind the scenes look that is especially notable, as not all of their official content and pages from this era is still online in 2026. The existence of an even rarer I.S.O.M. live video shouldn't be overlooked either! The rest of the videos will have a mixed appeal for most, but Craig wasn't lying about this channel having "a weird variety"! Integrated System Of Machines- I.S.O.M. live: While outviewed by the aforementioned rap song and corrections video, Craig's most popular video otherwise is also his first, which sees his old local epic metal band Integrated System Of Machines playing their self-titled song on the Ozzfest Stage at the annual Carnival Of Chaos Festival in Stanton (four hours south of the Soo) on June 27th, 2009. Joining many other bands as openers for Taproot that day, their exact lineup here isn't 100% obvious, but it is good seeing Craig and singer Bob "Orb Hearthstone" Helsten on stage again, and while the video is shaky, you can't be too harsh for an almost 17 year old concert video, and it sounds good for its age. Strong charging song with a catchy chorus and good aggression without getting too extreme! Yes, that does appear to be Craig's future Theatre of Night bandmate Rachel Mender on backing vocals.

 

 

Darkness Falls Within: A good array of solo performance videos by Craig made their way to his channel, mostly of him on the keys (though Dust N' Bones fans won't want to bypass his singing on some clips), while some of these have extraneous video filters added in post-production. Despite being the primary leader of Theatre Of Night, you don't often see videos that really show off his keyboard skills, and this April 2014 performance of their original "Darkness Falls Within" is as good as any for that. The filter is completely unnecessary, but this is a fine showcase of their epic symphonic qualities with a dark ambiance, so if you're not familiar with their non-Christmas material, this is a good introduction! Late night jam session with Theatre of Night and Flesh for the Beast members: In his final channel uploads aside from a shred video in 2020, Craig Harrison posted videos from an April 2018 jam session featuring Theatre Of Night bandmates Steve Giles (guitar) and Erik Sales (drums) plus guest musicians from their friends in Grand Rapids death metal band Flesh For The Beast, who Steve was an alum of. Both videos (including this 13 seconds-long one) feature different F.F.T.B. members on bass, one presumably being Craig Riley, but Craig H. didn't specify names in the descriptions. There are some odd reflections, as if Craig H. was filming behind glass or plastic, but the performances here are sound, and it'd be neat to see Theatre of Night do more with Flesh Of The Beast, live or in studio! Just a shame that Erik was largely obscured behind that pole from this vantage point.
