Defunct Local Band Profile Series: No Remains

It's time for our final Defunct Local Band Profile of 2012, and our first in our latest 1-1-1-1-1 cycle of bands from either of the Twin Saults, so Sault Michigan will lead off 2013 in one month's time! Before then, however, we have another inactive Sault Ontario band to look at today, where we'll once again check out this randomly selected band's history, material, current whereabouts, and more! Today's band didn't make it very far in their mid-2000s run, but there's some positive stuff to mention, so read on below for this month's profile, and if anything's missing or incorrect, please let me know!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Genre: Metal/Rock/Acoustic

Hometown: Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario

Performers: (Members not in their last lineup in italics)

Ray Mackan, lead guitar
Kyle Ingram, rhythm guitar
John Pino, bass
Craig Murphy (Garage Inc., After-Shock), session vocals
Brandon Hache, bass
Josh Villeneuve, drums

Audio/Video: No Remains do have a YouTube channel, but it's only upload (of guitarist Ray Mackan playing a guitar solo for one of their songs) was deleted for unknown reasons. However, online media of theirs isn't in short supply, as 6 original songs of theirs are available via their online pages! 3 songs with vocals by session singer Craig Murphy can be streamed at their most recent MySpace page (including "West Coast Surrender", "Betrayed", and "Shadows on the Run"), while the rest of their available songs are instrumentals, including "Not A Clone" & "With You" on their first MySpace page and "No Name" on their SoundClick page. I've posted all 6 of these songs on our YouTube channel (and they're linked above), but no matter where, give them a listen, and I've embedded "West Coast Surrender" below!

Info/Analysis: Originally named Project Underground, No Remains were a Sault Ontario metal band that roughly lasted from 2004 until 2007. Launched while the members were still in high school, No Remains produced a decent amount of original material at their 2006 peak, along with an official website & even plans for an album named "The First", but they never appeared to secure a full lineup or play any concerts, with only guitarists Ray Mackan & Kyle Ingram surviving through each incarnation. The band quietly dissolved circa late 2007, but Ray still uses their logo personally on Facebook. No Remains did have promise at least from a guitar standpoint, as Ray and Kyle both have clear skills, and Ray's guitar solos are generally very good, but their songs all seem incomplete. Craig Murphy's session vocals don't mesh well with this material, there's minimal to no bass, the drums are all programmed, and some songs can get repetitive. There is something here, particularly from the guitar work, but No Remains would have needed a full lineup and more seasoning to really take off locally. Hopefully the guys stayed in music in some form though!

I hope you guys liked this month's Defunct Local Band Profile! So, what band will kick off 2013 in this series? As said above, we're touching on the Sault Michigan area again next month (for likely the only time this winter), and through completely random selection, I've chosen defunct Pickford hard rock quartet Absolute (featuring future members of NoXcape & Riot! By Night), which should be an intriguing profile in itself, so watch out for that on or around January 10th! That's all for now, but stay tuned for more news and notes later today! Thanks everyone!
