LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Feel Good Jacket, Tripod The Dog, And The Elements), Plus A New Video!!

Before we review last night's concert action at The Algonquin Hotel, here's some overdue news items from the last while, including a new video and some intriguing LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS for this spring! Without any further adieu, here's what you should know!

Fresh off of their set at last night's Joni Radford memorial concert, local hard rock/ska quartet The Elements will reportedly open for new local indie rock quartet Man Feelings on Friday, March 15th at LopLops Lounge! This has not been publically stated on The Elements' Facebook page at press time, but Man Feelings confirmed their involvement on their Facebook page yesterday. The Elements don't frequent LopLops, so this should be a fun chance for regulars to take in their increasing number of originals and fan-favourite covers! While they long predate Man Feelings, this band (featuring Bizotic's B.J. Swire)  has been garnering a increasingly positive reception since their debut last year, and they should fit in well in their LopLops debut next week! A $5 cover charge is in effect for this 19+ concert, which has a 10:00 PM start time. Visit the official Facebook event page and the above links for more details!

Next up, here's a surprise announcement, as Tripod the Dog are reuniting to headline at The Rockstar Bar on Saturday, April 6th! A fan favourite alternative hard rock band with funk influences, readers may recall their local run from the late 1990s through 2008, their appearance on the "Local Steel" compilation, and their reunion set at Rotaryfest Stage 1 last year. The write-up on the Facebook event page does not directly indicate that this is a one-off, and it doesn't help that they don't have a current online page, but if this is one night only, you may want to prioritize Tripod the Dog's return next month! A lineup wasn't firmly stated, but for reference, singer/guitarist Mark Oliverio (ex-Boogie Fever) was their only constant member, and he was joined for Rotaryfest last year by his old Glitch bandmate Sean Berlinguette on bass & former Ground Zero drummer Brian Egglesfield.

A 10:00 PM start time is advertised for this 19+ show, which does not have an advertised cover charge. It's great to see Mark "unleash" Tripod the Dog once again, and if they are back permanently and launch a new online page, we'll gladly add them to our band links! Visit the above links for more on Tripod the Dog's reunion next month!

Lastly for today's new show announcements, I only just heard about this one via advertising at the venue last night, as Alberta hard rock trio Feel Good Jacket will make their local concert debut on Friday, May 31st at The Rockstar Bar! A female fronted group whose setlist leans heavily to 1990s- & 2000s hard and alternative rock, their extensive setlist is supplemented by original songs from their debut album "Battle Rock", and some select classic rock numbers. With a strong melodic sound and well-tested show from many tour dates out west, Feel Good Jacket should put on a great show at the end of May! Maybe this will be my birthday show this year? As best as I can tell, there are no advertised opening bands. A cover charge is not stated on the poster, but keep in mind that there is no Facebook event page at press time, and I'd expect this to be a 10:00 PM show with a 19+ age limit. Visit the above links for much more on Feel Good Jacket as this event approaches!

Finally for today's news post, local indie/hard rock quartet Id Iota posted a new cover video onto their Facebook page on Thursday, marking their first public sign of life in over 7 months! The video is a cover of "Free At Last" by Toronto pop punk band Pup, with the unique hook that the song is brand new, and Id Iota had never heard the song before performing it. Pup had issued a challenge to fans in January to record their own versions of "Free At Last" using just the chord structure and lyrics, without being able to hear the band's final copy (which was only released on Wednesday.) Very unique concept, and it allows for a lot of creative interpretations! If you're at all curious, you can hear over 200 versions of this song at this link as part of the band's official playlist, Id Iota's included. The video proper features some surprise alterations to their lineup, including the absence of singer Christian Lemay, with guitarist Dustin Goodall handling lead vocals instead.

As well, Dustin's Pointless bandmate Bill Priddle (of Treble Charger fame) appears to be joining them on guitar on the far left. No word on if these are indicative of a permanent lineup change (Id Iota's Facebook bio still doesn't even list their bassist), but in the meantime, how does the cover sound? Not bad, Dustin's vocals are melodic and fit the tone, and their interpretation has a 1990s alt-rock vibe that has a very familiar quality. Is this the "new" Id Iota, or will Christian be back in their next material? Stay tuned for updates, and give Id Iota's Pup cover a look below!

That's all for now, but stay tuned for our review of last night's Joni Radford memorial concert next!
