I'm baaaaaaaaaaaack! I have returned from Detroit, and although I didn't catch this past weekend's concerts, I did catch something else: ANOTHER COLD. I wish I could have been at the Devil's Night show, though with the cold I've came down with, Halloween might have been a write off even if I was in town. Damnit. Well, enough complaining from me! I haven't heard too much "earth-shattering" out of this weekend's concerts, though by all accounts, I heard they all went over very well!
The only real change that I heard from the shows was that Renegades replaced bassist Brian Cattapan with David Grawbarger (ex-Driving Dave Home), thanks to Kev Riain from Sense of Truth for the news on that! Assorted people have posted photos and videos from the shows on Facebook, including this very comprehensive photo album from the Devil's Night concert from Keesha Creight, and this album from the Sense of Truth show from Justin Dzama! As for the Frightlight/Half Past show, lots of stuff from that floating around! 8 photos of Frightlight's debut performance are now on their official Facebook group, and they definitely got into the Halloween spirit! Even if it's not a Fitswitch reunion, it's great seeing J.D. and Rick back on stage in the same band! There's also videos too, and in HD no less! Click here for the song "Scream", and here for the song "Cemetery"! They sound pretty good, here's hoping they play more shows soon, and I don't have to wait til Halloween next year for a chance to see them!
As for Half Past, it was their first show in 10 months and with a different name and lineup, so that deserves some mention too! Photos are up on their Facebook page (interesting monk costume on Luke there!), and a video's been posted of their version of Rage Against The Machine's "Killing In The Name"! Check it out here! I'd embed videos if I could, but alas, Facebook annoyingly doesn't allow you to. Also, I haven't seen much from Glamoween since I got back, though I know they did play. Any feedback on them or their set?
Alright, now that I've talked a bit about all the fun I missed, we have a MAJOR local concert preview to do! And if you've seen the logo and banner changes, it should be obvious! TONIGHT, multi-platinum Grammy nominated metal band Papa Roach will make their Sault-area debut! From California, Papa Roach have sold over 5 million records in North America, and are best known for songs like "Last Resort", "Lifeline", "Forever", and "Scars"! Joining Papa Roach will be Aranda, a pop rock band from Oklahoma, and Boston rock band Stilrize! Though neither support band are "metal", they both fit the crowd well, and I'm sure will find some local fans! Click on each band's name to check out their respective pages! And they will all be at The Dreammakers Theater at Kewadin Casino tonight at 7:00 PM! Doors open at 6:00 PM.
Tickets are still available for $26.50 at 1-800-KEWADIN, at this location, and at the GraphixTwo box office on Great Northern Road! Sounds like it might be a good show, though I really prefer their old "Infest" sound to this whole pop-glam thing they're forcing on themselves. But hey, it's working for them, and they'll do a good job! For a preview, here's the video for one of their more recent hits, "To Be Loved"!
Tomorrow, the old SMS banner and logo shall return, until Saturday, when I'll replace it with ones to honor the Ace Frehley concert on November 13th at Kewadin! Stay tuned! Now, for two upcoming out of town shows featuring local bands! And both happen to be in Toronto! One features Detroit (who include 3 members of Lion Ride in shuffled roles), as they return to a frequent concert venue of theirs, The Bovine Sex Club! The other band is Stillbroke, who will hit the road once again in February for a show at Rock N' Roll Heaven! They also launched a Facebook page for said show, which you can check out here! Both shows sound great, hopefully they both go well! And remember, as soon as I get my copy of "Never Enough", I'm reviewing it!
Also, according to a post on The 705 Scene from Mark Rand, Lion Ride are planning a show for December 26th in Sault Ontario! No details have been announced yet, but once I hear more, I'll let you guys know!
Finally for today, Woods of Ypres-related news! If you're aware of frontman David Gold's musical history, you may know that he once lived in South Korea teaching English, and drummed for a band from there called Necramyth! They've just released their new album, "Slaughter Of The Soul", to MySpace, and yes, it features David on drums (that's him on the left!) Gold describes Necramyth as "Brutal Pagan Thrash Metal", which is pretty accurate! Very solid stuff, though I do question the similarities of the album cover (check it out here) to the cover for "Woods IV: The Green Album". Though not a local band, it does feature David on drums, so it's worth mentioning, and I recommend checking Necramyth's new album out! You can do so at this location!
That's all for today, I hope to have some more news and updates very soon! I still need to look through my Sault Michigan sources and check around to make sure on some things and find others, so hopefully I'll have some good news for you guys tomorrow or Wednesday! Thanks everyone, hope you all had a great Halloween!
