The next metal night at The Roosevelt Hotel is TONIGHT, and you could make the argument that this is the biggest one yet! Headlining tonight are prominent local blackened doom metal quartet Woods of Ypres, in their first local concert appearance in almost 18 months! Since their last local show in August 2009, a lot has happened in the Woods camp, but with their new deal with Earache Records in full swing, and the re-release of "Woods IV: The Green Album" imminent, there's no better time for the band to return to the burial ground! This will also be Woods of Ypres' first local show with Joel Violette on guitar, after replacing Bryan Belleau early last year, so make note of that! With loads of notable songs and a "new" album to support in this tour kick-off show, there's enough reason to be excited, but there are openers too! Two are confirmed, both of the death metal vein, those being The Bear Hunters and State of Misery! With loads of original material and covers in their respective repetoires, they'll look to devastate fans at the Rosie tonight to keep the metal flowing early! Because of the special nature of this show, there will be a cover, but it's only $3. You must be 19 to attend, and everything starts at 10:00 PM. In this lighter-than-usual weekend, we have a few more shows, including the latest acoustic solo concert from Caveman Morrison frontman Tym Morrison, whose bi-weekly concert arrangement at The Eagles Club on Trout Lake Road continues tomorrow night! With the wait stretching on for the return of Caveman Morrison, you can enjoy a very similar experience (just unplugged) by hitting The Eagles Club tomorrow, where Tym will unleash his brand of rocking music to the fans in attendance! If you miss him tomorrow, he's back every Friday through at least the end of March either there or at The Big Cheese, so you have lots of chances to check him out this month! Finally on the weekend concert schedule, Turner Up are back at The Roosevelt Hotel for their seemingly monthly stop there, as they add to a stacked musical lineup at The Rosie over the next few days! As you've come to expect, Turner Up will bring a ton of classic hard rock hits to the Rosie faithful tomorrow night and Saturday night, with maybe a few songs to get you moving and grooving as well! Finally for this post is our latest weekly classic video! Now, with Woods of Ypres' local return tonight, you'd think I'd go the obvious route and post a new video of them for this week. Actually, I thought that'd be TOO obvious, so instead, I went with another one of Woods frontman David Gold's old bands, and naturally, I stayed local and picked Gates of Winter! David played briefly with Gates of Winter in 2008 after replacing Jonathan Harvey on drums, and played with Gates in support of "Lux Aeterna" during their last concerts to date in the latter half of that year. David has three videos on his YouTube channel from his Gates of Winter tenure, all from a pair of Toronto concerts the band played in August 2008 at The Annex Wreckroom, but I found one interesting clip that he didn't post onto YouTube! David uploaded a video from the August 23rd Toronto show onto his Facebook page not long after the concert, wherein Gates of Winter played their "Burning Kingdom" trilogy of songs in their entirety! The songs flow together really well into a 15 minute epic, with no clear breaks, so it don't think it'd make sense to separate them. That's probably why David never uploaded this video to YouTube, as video length limits of the time were 10 minutes.NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT OR HARM IS MEANT WITH THIS UPLOAD! All credit for this video goes to the original filmer, David Gold, and Gates of Winter for this performance, as they did all the hard work! Gates of Winter were in top form here, progressive and very heavy, just as I remember them, and the 15 minutes just fly by! Video quality's a bit shaky, but I can't complain otherwise.
