Hey guys, it's time for our usual post where we preview the coming concert weekend, which has nine metal/hard rock concerts under my radar to check out! However, we have a last minute lineup change for one and a SHORT NOTICE LOCAL CONCERT ALERT, so here's what you need to know!
Local hardcore quintet As It Stands will NOT be playing at the Roosevelt Hotel metal night tonight. Instead, they've been named as the openers for Vancouver melodic rock band Versus The Nothing's show at The Rockstar Bar TONIGHT! It's disappointing that they won't be rocking the Rosie tonight, but I can understand if they would want to open for a touring band like this. Seize the moment! Versus The Nothing are a talented band, though they aren't especially heavy. They have some catchy tunes and some clear energy, so they are worth checking out at their official MySpace page! As It Stands will be making (I think) their first ever Rockstar Bar appearance tonight too, which is notable in itself! I'm seeing a 9:00 PM start time for this show, there's no advertised cover charge (have cash on hand though, just in case), and you must be 19 to attend. Click here for more details! Sounds like a good time, hopefully lots of As It Stands fans come out despite the late notice! For a preview, here's As It Stands playing their song "Rise Above" at The Rosie in May!
So with that said, TONIGHT'S 19th Roosevelt Hotel metal night is short a band, and as soon as Dismembertainment officially announce a replacement, I will update this post and let you all know! That said, headlining tonight at The Rosie are local death metal quintet The Bear Hunters, in their record-tying 9th Thursday metal night appearance, and second ever show with their current lineup! Look for a brutal set of melodic death metal originals (and select covers) from this talented quintet tonight, they always deliver! The scheduled openers are local grimecore trio Shit Liver, who'll be set on delivering a grimy and crusty mix of punk and death metal to their fans tonight as well! The middle slot is, of course, vacant at present, but stay tuned for updates on a replacement! As always, tonight's show starts at around 9:30 PM, there is no cover charge, and you must be 19. Check the above links for more details! The metal shall flow tonight, so definitely consider a run to the Rosie to mosh away! For a preview, here's The Bear Hunters playing their song "Karma" last week, and stay tuned to the SMS for updates on the replacement band tonight!
Now to the rest of the weekend's shows, and first, local classic hard rock quartet Full Circle are hitting Foggy Notions tomorrow night for one night only! They were originally scheduled for The Rockstar Bar this weekend for their typical Friday-Saturday set, but the shows were moved to Foggy's for unexplained reasons. They're only playing tomorrow night because of a previously scheduled concert on Saturday that we're mentioning later in this post. And if you're a Foggy's fan, take note of this show, as it's Full Circle's ONLY scheduled show at Foggy's through September 17th, as per the old Turner Up Facebook group. So head on out to Foggy Notions tomorrow night at around 10:30 PM to hear some great hard rock covers from the talented quartet of KT Antler, Kyle McKey, Robert Brown, and Scott McClurg! There's no announced cover charge, and you must be 19 to attend. Check the Facebook event page for more details, and take my word on it, they'll deliver a good set! When videos of Full Circle in action pop up, I'll let you all know!
Now a brief detour to Sault Michigan, as Marquette hard rock quartet Nudge returns to The Satisfied Frog for their second conescutive weekend rocking the Frog to it's core! This weekend's shows are largely the same as last week's, with no announced cover charge, 21+ age limits both nights, and a 10:00 PM-ish start time, and yes, frontman Danzo McCracken did precede the shows with acoustic shows yesterday and tonight, so check him out tonight as well! The big difference this weekend is that Nudge will be joined by a special guest tomorrow night, that being Oscoda, Michigan classic rock quintet Grounded! They have a good sound of their own, if not completely heavy, so go see them tomorrow as well for a double shot of Northern Michigan rock! Nudge will be going solo as usual on Saturday though. For more details, check the above links and the Facebook event page! It's always good to see Nudge around locally, and their hard rock covers will be sure to get fans moving this weekend! For a preview, here's Nudge covering White Zombie's "Thunder Kiss '65" from a 2008 show!
We'll head back to Sault Ontario for the rest of the weekend previews, and first, local hard rock cover trio Caveman Morrison are returning to the stage for a weekend set at The Nicolet Tavern once again! Their new lineup (featuring Tym Morrison, Jacques Marceau, and Willie Bellerose) just debuted at The Nic last month, and they'll be set to deliver a fun weekend of metal and hard rock covers to their fans once again! Both the Friday and Saturday shows will start at 10:00 PM, there's no announced cover charge, and you must be 19 to attend. For more details, check the above links and the official Facebook event page! It's great to see Caveman Morrison back on stage, hopefully we start seeing some more frequent bookings from them at some different venues this summer! Head out to The Nicolet Tavern if you can, and for a preview, here's an older Caveman Morrison lineup covering Ozzy Osbourne's "I Don't Know"!
And now to a pair of single concerts on Saturday night, and first, four widely varying bands will hit Foggy Notions on Saturday to rock the night away! Two bands scheduled for that show are metal, including local extreme quintet WinkStinger, who'll be second to perform at the concert. Their metal assault will be a welcome sight at Foggy's this weekend, and hopefully it'll help make up for their Rosie cancellation next week! Opening the concert are "honky tonk metal" duo Sounds From The Green Room, who I believe feature SBD bassist Brad Griffith on vocals/guitar and B.J. Swire on drums. I don't know how they sound, but I've heard interestingly positive things, so don't miss them if you go on Saturday! The concert itself will be headlined by local cello punk trio RedD Monkey, who combine aggressive punk rock, a bit of rap, and classical music into a satisfying mix of music, and yes, "some metalhead" approves! Directly backing them up are the unique folk/acoustic trio The Night Owl Meme Makers, who'll leave a definite impression with their style of music, which you definitely don't hear every day!
This concert has a 9:30 PM start time, no cover charge, and as is usual, you must be 19 to get in. For more details, check the Facebook event page! This should be an entertaining mix of bands on Saturday, and it's worth checking out, as there's a little something for everyone in store! Check the above links for more details, and for a preview, here's WinkStinger playing their song "Chudnugget" in January at The Rosie!
Finally for the weekend, local hard rock quartet Sneaky Pete are hitting the stage on Saturday night for just the third time ever! After previously rocking The Rockstar Bar & The Rosie in the two previous months, Sneaky Pete will make their way even further west for a night of rocking covers at The Vibe Lounge! This talented quartet of local music veterans will be sure to give their fans a hard rocking night of covers, and hopefully you guys will make the trip to the West End to rock out with them! This show starts at 10:30 PM, there is no announced cover charge, and of course, there's a 19+ age limit. For more details, check the above links and the Facebook event page! This should be a fun concert as well, and they deserve a big crowd on Saturday! Hopefully their bookings pick up though, I know we'd love to see them on stage more! I don't have any embeddable videos yet, but check out their Facebook page to see some live videos there from their debut show!
That's all for today, but stay tuned tomorrow for our latest Defunct Local Band Profile on Bad Side! It's out longest one yet, so keep an eye out! Thanks everyone!
