We'll start THIS THURSDAY for the 27th Roosevelt Hotel metal night, as two of the most frequently seen bands at the Thursday night metal shows return for a night of death metal and hardcore! The advertised headliners are The Bear Hunters, who'll have loads of melodic death metal hits in store for the metalheads in attendance this week for their record-tying 12th Thursday night Rosie metal show! The advertised openers are hardcore quartet Changing Waves, returning after three weeks to bring the fans to their feet with their brand of metalcore originals and covers! Sounds like another brutal night of bands from Dismembertainment, so remember the metal action on Thursday! A 10:00 PM start time, 19+ age limit, and no cover charge should be expected. Check the above links for more details! Sounds like a solid metal show for us to hit, even if there's just two bands. They'll just rock extra harder to make up for it, and for a nice low price of free, you have plenty of reason to head to The Rosie on Thursday! Also this weekend, Caveman Morrison frontman Tym Morrison returns to Service Grill Pizza for the continuation of his Saturday weekly concert arrangement! As has been the case over the last few weeks, Tym will be rocking the pizza restaurant on Korah Road, though this week, for only his scheduled first set at 3:00 PM. Why is there no night set? Because he's playing at Bossy's Pub & Grub that night for the Hollow reunion weekend! So if you want to see Tym's acoustic solo set this weekend, you'll wanna be at the Service Grill between 3:00 and 7:00 PM on Saturday, or if you're in for a drive, in Hilton Beach on Sunday afternoon! The show on Saturday has no cover, and I believe it's all ages. For more details, visit the official Facebook event page! Should be another entertaining set of acoustic hits, and hopefully Tym does great before he heads down to Bossy's to rock out with Hollow! Now to some extra news! First, local metal band Sativa Rose have officially announced the addition of Marisa Valois to the band as their new singer, after months of searching for a full time vocalist. The news was broken on the band's Facebook page late last night. Marisa isn't a largely known figure in the local music scene, but she is a talented singer who you may have seen live with Algoma University's musical theater vocal ensemble, even getting some credit in Sault Star articles through her work there! I don't think I've heard her sing before, but from what I've read and heard, she's very talented, and should be an asset for Sativa Rose! Since their live debut last summer, the band relied on existing members Adam Veale and Andrew Angelic for lead vocals (or the occasional guest singer), and I've said for a while that their biggest flaw was the lack of a real vocalist. Now they should have the right person for the job! It's also nice to see a heavier Sault Ontario band get a female singer, which we don't see often enough compared to Sault Michigan's high amount of women behind the mic. Marisa should do great, and stay tuned for updates on when you can see the new five-piece Sativa Rose lineup next!
And finally, I know I'm overdue for this, but we'd like to extend our best wishes to SooToday founder and news director David Helwig, who announced his departure from the local news site on July 21st after over 9 years of work with SooToday. David's departure is linked to his further creative ambitions outside of journalism, which include non-fiction writing, education, film production, and writing an opera libretto. David was a fixture of local news reporting since February 2002 when SooToday was launched, and his extensive output of articles on the site were good informative reads, including the occasional article with a musical or metal relevance. Though I know his reporting style wasn't universally loved, he's always been cordial and friendly when it comes to my work at the SMS, and he will absolutely be missed by loyal SooToday readers like myself. The site's in good hands though, as it hopefully will be for years to come! Still, best of luck to David in all of his future endeavours, I know he'll succeed at anything he sets out to do!
