Searchmont Music Festival Preview And An Interview About "Soo Stories"!!

Hey guys, it's time for another news post, though today, we have just two stories: A cool interview relating to a recent local book, and an extended preview of a debuting new local music festival! Without any further adieu, let's get this post going, and for the rest of my weekend concert previews, check the post below this one!

Tomorrow, a new local music festival makes it's debut, and it's The Searchmont Music Festival! The popular area ski resort will host many local acts on two stages all day tomorrow for what should be a great event, including a barbeque, prizes, on-site camping, and an open bar for attendees! Get full details on the event's non musical aspects at this location, but how about tomorrow's entertainment? For the most part, tomorrow is lacking in metal bands, but there are two heavier acts to watch out for tomorrow afternoon! The highest placed is local melodic death metal quintet The Bear Hunters, who are clear outliers amongst the selection of bands tomorrow, but if anyone can rock Searchmont to it's core, they'll be the ones, so head to the resort for some brutal death metal! Their set starts at 1:30 PM at the stage inside the resort, and if you're there early, you won't miss Tym Morrison on the acoustic outdoor stage! Caveman Morrison's frontman will return to the Sault area himself tomorrow for a solo set of hard rock hits at 12:30 PM, so you know you won't wanna miss either Tym or The Bear Hunters tomorrow afternoon! Check the above links for more information on them and their sets!

As for the rest of the lineup tomorrow, the main stage inside Searchmont Resort runs from 1:00 PM to around 11:00 PM, so in descending order, here's the updated schedule! Classic rockers Moondance headline at the new time of 10:15 PM, and are preceded by burlesque troupe The Salty Mollies at 9:45 PM, solo blues artist Al Davis at 9:00 PM, a set by Niagara Falls solo artist Roger Marin (moved from the outdoor stage) at a new time of 8:45 PM, '60s rockers The Trippie Hippies at 8:05 PM, Roger Marin again at another new time of 7:45 PM, blues outfit The Dirty River Band at 7:00 PM, acoustic duo Tea With Lincoln at 5:45 PM, 10 piece R&B band The Reptiles at 4:45 PM (Emma + Robot were originally on for this slot, but have since dropped out), newly added blues rockers Blackwater at 3:45 PM (replacing Borrowed Time), solo artist Douglas Cousineau at 3:00 PM (returned to the lineup to replace Tuff Gig), punk trio Redundant at 2:15 PM, The Bear Hunters at 1:00 PM, and folk band Green Cafe opening the indoor stage at 1:00 PM. As for the outdoor stage, it runs from 12:00 PM to around 6:30 PM, and will now be headlined by an open jam session at 5:45 PM, which should be interesting!

As for the rest of the outdoor acoustic stage, previous headliner Rick Charbonneau will now play at 5:00 PM (replacing Roger Marin, who's now on the indoor stage), and he'll be preceded by Joseph Kargianakkis at 4:15 PM, Mark Dunn at 3:30 PM, Kylie Precepa at 2:45 PM, Guy Smith at 2:00 PM (his and Kylie's set times were switched), Frank Bock at 1:15 PM, and Tym Morrison at 12:30, with Green Cafe opening this stage too at 12:00 PM. Remember, along with the removed Emma + Robot, Borrowed Time, and Tuff Gig, scheduled performers Cody McMillan, Deven Creagh, Britta Wolfert, and Rusty McCarthy are no longer listed on the schedule, but all four appear to be members of other scheduled bands, so all isn't lost! For all current lineup details for the festival, click here! Admission is $10, but if you didn't get an advance ticket, they will now only be available at the gate tomorrow, so if you still wanna go, go straight to Searchmont! This appears to be all ages, but if you want alcohol, bring ID. Sounds like an entertaining festival full of talented area musicians, and even if there isn't much metal, consider going and enjoying all of the great local music and support Searchmont! For a preview, here's The Bear Hunters playing their song "Karma" at The Roosevelt Hotel in June!

And finally, do you remember "Soo Stories: A Rock N' Roll Scrapbook", the book released by Wawa author Duane Roy about concerts at the former Sault Memorial Gardens? Well, Duane was interviewed by Vic McCarty on the Charlevoix talk radio station WMKT last month about the book, and the full interview is now online at his YouTube channel! He was originally interviewed by WMKT in February of last year focusing on his first book "Castle Stories", but it's nice to see the Charlevoix locals giving his Sault concert book some attention! Broken up into three parts, the interview features Duane and the hosts talking about various bands mentioned in the book, Canadian stereotypes, his Wawa background, Sault Memorial Gardens, the background of the book, whether he can swear on air or not, a "word association" game about artists who played the Gardens, his best and worst concert memories, his trip to see Whitesnake at Kewadin Casino, who Kim Mitchell is (surprised Vic didn't know), and where you can buy the book, among many other subjects! Nice loose atmosphere, Duane and the hosts have a good conversation with some laughs, and hopefully "Soo Stories" got some good press in Michigan!

The full interview clocks in at about 23 minutes in length, and you can listen to each chunk of the interview at this location! I've embedded Part 1 below, but click here for Part 2 and here for Part 3, and enjoy this nice and lengthy interview on Duane's great new book!

That's all for today, but stay tuned for our Defunct Local Band Profiles on From The Ashes Of Angels & TraynWreck tomorrow, and more news over the weekend! Thanks everyone!
