LOCAL CONCERT ALERT (Apocalypse: The Musical), Queensryche Concert Preview, And This Week's Classic Video!!

Before getting to the meat of this post, I just wanted to note that TONIGHT'S multi-band concert at The Speak Easy is actually a "United For Equity" event, which sounds like a nice cause for sure, so click here for more details, and hopefully tonight's event goes awesome! Today, we have this week's classic video, a preview of a huge metal show TOMORROW NIGHT, and first, a LOCAL CONCERT ALERT, so here's what you need to know!

A three for all of metal & punk tribute bands named "Apocalypse: The Musical" is hitting The Canadian Nightclub on March 1st, including some local talent, so let's run down what we know on the three bands! The first listed band is Xanadu, and I believe they're either a revived or new version of the ever prolific Jonathan Tiberi's old metal band from his hometown of Welland! They used to cover Black Sabbath a lot, and their set in March will be entirely Black Sabbath covers to fit with the show's theme. There's a lot of unknowns right now in terms of Xanadu's return (i.e. if other former band members will be back, if this is a one-off gig, etc.), but the videos Jon has on his personal Facebook page show promise and pay tribute to Sabbath well, so this should be a fun set! Also scheduled are a Misfits tribute band named The Fiend Brigade (renamed from The Angelfucks) that I personally have no information on. If they're local, it's possible that they could share Frightlight members, especially as they're well known for covering & being influenced by The Misfits (plus, frontman J.D. Pearce is promoting this show), but I am not certain on much else yet, or if they're even a local band.

The third band are local thrash rockers Pillory in just their second ever concert & their first since the passing of guitarist Andres Duchesne last month, and they'll be covering all Metallica songs for this show, which sounds cool in & of itself! That said, we still don't know who will be their new second guitarist come March (if anyone), but hopefully we hear something on that front soon, and hopefully Andres will be there somehow! This 19+ show will have a $5 cover charge, and it begins at 10:00 PM on March 1st. Check the above links for more details! This should be an entertaining concert, and a welcome shake-up for a multi-band show like this, so hopefully there's a huge turnout at The Canadian to kick off March, and if you have any additional information on the lingering questions for these three bands, let me know! (Also, Pillory revealed on their Facebook page yesterday that they're apparently hitting the studio to record their debut EP this weekend! Seems fairly sudden, especially with no new guitarist yet, but their originals would sound awesome in studio, so stay tuned for updates!)

Next up, here's our first major metal concert preview of 2013, as The Dreammaker's Theater at the Sault Michigan Kewadin Casino welcomes Bellevue, Washington progressive metal quintet Queensryche TOMORROW NIGHT! Note that this is the original version of Queensryche featuring 3 original members, not ex-singer Geoff Tate's new version of the band that he formed last year. Queensryche are among the most influential metal bands of the 1980s and early 1990s, selling over 6 million CDs and producing such hits as "Silent Lucidity", "Real World", and "Jet City Woman", and their technical yet catchy brand of metal should ensure an amazing show tomorrow night, and don't disregard them just because Geoff's not in this version anymore, as Todd La Torre has an amazing range and suits the classics very well! Just as a reminder, Brimley metal trio Half A Man will NOT be opening this concert following some miscommunication earlier this week, but all is amicable now, and hopefully we'll see them back on the stage in the area soon!

Tickets are still available for $28.50 from the fourth row and back at this location, by phone at 1-800-KEWADIN, and in person at the Kewadin box office, while I'd call ahead in case there's any meet & greets, as these never seem to be well promoted online in advance. This is an all ages show, and it starts at 7:00 PM tomorrow night. Check the above links for more details! Queensryche should put in an awesome show to cap off the first weekend of metal shows in the area of 2013, so get your tickets A.S.A.P. if you haven't already, and stay tuned for fallout of this show next week! For a preview, here's Queensryche playing "Queen of the Reich" live in June!

Finally for today, here's our first classic video upload of 2013! Because it's getting harder to find older local metal videos from non-YouTube sources, I'm going to retract this weekly series to bi-weekly (at least for now) to spread the videos I have access to out. That said, for our first classic video of the year, to tie in with Tym Morrison's show at The Roadhouse Bar & Grill tonight, I've uploaded a jam session video of Tym and other local musicians covering Metallica's "Master of Puppets" on Halloween 2009! Featuring Tym on vocals & guitar alongside former local concert promoter/Time of Ruin guitarist Rich Moreland on an upside down bass and Adam Turcotte on drums, this isn't the cleanest cover that's ever existed, but the guys visibly had fun in this performance, and Rich is nicely dressed for the Halloween season! This video was filmed by attendee Shelley McKie and was uploaded to Facebook by Rich the next day, with the original video viewable at http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=164033612695. NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT IS INTENDED!!

All credit for this video goes to Shelley and the performers, I'm just trying to share it with a wider audience! Though this does suffer compared to a proper full band performance, it's a fun cover nonetheless, so give Tym, Rich, and Adam's jam session Metallica cover a look below!

That's all for today, but stay tuned for a new news post tomorrow! Thanks everyone!
