For today at the SMS, we're focusing on previews of this weekend's metal & hard rock schedule in the area, which is thankfully lighter than last weekend's busy slate! Though I can't verify any 100% heavier shows in Sault Michigan over the next few days, there's some big stuff going on in Sault Ontario (albeit with a pair of Rockstar Bar cancellations and related lineup changes), so read on below for what you should know, starting with a LOCAL CONCERT ALERT!! (Edited at 2:25 PM)
Local classic hard rock quintet That's Chester will fill in on short notice for a concert THIS SATURDAY NIGHT at The Rockstar Bar! Apologies for the short notice, this show was was only just announced this afternoon via this Facebook event page. Originally, frontman Greg Simpson's other hard rock band Stiffler's Mom were slated to play there on Saturday, but due to a family emergency concerning another band member (source here), That's Chester will take over the Saturday night booking instead. Fitting change, and either way, Greg will get to celebrate before his upcoming wedding in style (congratulations in advance!) Remember, this is not a double weekend booking due to the Late & Loud show tomorrow night that we're previewing next. Their often heavy show goes down Saturday night at 10:30
PM, you must be 19 to attend, and there's a $5 cover in effect. For
more details, check the above links!
It's great to see That's Chester jump in on even shorter notice to play at The Rockstar Bar on Saturday night, and in case it's of note, I believe this will be their first concert at this venue since 2011, so it's been a long time coming either way! Don't miss the return of That's Chester on Saturday night, and for a preview, here's the guys live at Rotaryfest!
Moving to previously announced shows, and for ONE NIGHT ONLY, inactive local classic metal favourites Late & Loud will reunite to headline at The Rockstar Bar TOMORROW NIGHT! Yes, it has moved back upstairs, we'll address that in a bit. 10 months after the guys' last show at the same venue's battle of the bands finals, this energetic and proficient quartet will return for this one-off gig that should give the Loudmouths another rush of live original metal, and if you've missed seeing the guys on stage, you won't wanna miss this one! Three active local bands are opening, including one late notice addition, and they include all female hard rockers The Danger Cats in their Rockstar Bar debut! Note that their own advertising for the event shows them as a quartet minus singer Summer Snow-Leopard, but I have yet to confirm whether she's out of the band or just missed that photo shoot. Either way, they should entertain with their developing and diverse sound! Also joining in will be local punk trio Redundant in just their second show since their return from hiatus, and with a 100% guarantee of a bigger crowd than at Bon Soo, they should deliver some solid originals in their own right tomorrow!
The other band that's been added to the lineup is newer local indie/punk quintet Northwest (which is spelled as one word now), but wait a minute, weren't they playing a separate Tidal Records gig at The Rockstar Bar that same night? They were, but that show has quietly been cancelled in recent days, so the Late & Loud show (which was bumped downstairs to The Algonquin Pub to accommodate it) is back upstairs and has added Northwest to the bill. Nice to see this experienced newer band (featuring Bankshot, Terminal, and Nebraska Arms alumni) jumping on board with this show so they can still play tomorrow night, they should fit in! A reason for the Tidal Records show's cancellation hasn't been publicized, but it was to have also featured local hard rock quartet Late Shift and fellow punk rockers The Wing-Its, and very little publically remains on Tidal Records-linked pages acknowledging the show. Hopefully nothing bad happened, and fingers crossed we see the other bands live soon! For reference sake, remember that this concert is the reason why there's not a Heavy Thursday at The Rosie tonight, as promoter J.D. Pearce is handling tomorrow's show instead, which was booked before that series' launch.
Admission for TOMORROW NIGHT is $5 at the door, you must be 19 to attend, a 10:00 PM start time is in effect, and as stated above, this show is taking place UPSTAIRS at The Rockstar Bar once again, so don't go downstairs. For more details, visit the official Facebook event page! Very solid lineup for punk and metal fans, especially with Northwest's addition, and you know that Late & Loud's reunion (and perhaps last show ever?) will be an event not to miss, so I'll see you guys there tomorrow! For a preview, here's Late & Loud at The Rockstar Bar last year!
Lastly for today's hard rock/metal previews, Caveman Morrison frontman Tym Morrison's ongoing weekly run at The Harp Pub & Grill returns to it's usual Friday night placement TOMORROW! After a temporary two week stay on Saturday nights, his twelfth straight weekly concert/hosted jam night at the former Madison's Pub returns to normal tomorrow, and for an entertaining evening of diverse and often hard rocking covers, plus some possible open mic performers, a trip to The Harp (in the Food Basics plaza on Pine Street) wouldn't be a bad idea! Like usual for Tym's solo shows, there's no announced cover charge, a 10:00 PM start time, and a 19+ age limit in effect. For more details, visit the official Facebook event page! This should be another solid night of covers and entertainment from Tym Morrison, so keep it in mind for your Friday night plans, and here he is at The Big Cheese a few years back!
That's all for today, but stay tuned for a new news post tomorrow, likely featuring a bunch of new Sault Michigan shows! Thanks everyone!
