LOCAL CONCERT ALERT (Frightlight), New Concert Videos, And More!!

After a few days off from news posts (the fall is admittedly slower than the summer as it is), we're back with new videos from recent concerts and a notable LOCAL CONCERT ALERT for the Halloween season, so here's what you need to know on this Tuesday morning!

The annual Halloween party concert from local promoter J.D. Pearce (a.k.a. Johnny Pints) will return on Halloween night (Friday, October 31st) for what is being hyped as it's "tenth anniversary"! Though this will only be J.D.'s ninth annual Halloween weekend event under this branding, he's retroactively including a 2005 seasonal event that he put on that wasn't under that name, hence the milestone, but it's a big accomplishment either way! Taking place on a Friday this year rather than the usual Saturday, likely to time it with Halloween proper, this year's party will return to The Algonquin Pub (it's 2012 location), after spending last year at the former Roosevelt Hotel, so it's back downtown after a turn in the west end! The currently announced headliners will be local horror punk/metal quintet Frightlight in their 5th appearance at this annual event, and their last show ever, as it will be their "frightening farewell" due to members' own personal and external commitments. The guys are coming full circle, as they debuted on Halloween night at the 2009 party, and will go out in the same way!

The other currently confirmed band is the original crash band, Sykotyk Rampage, who memorably played at the 2012 Halloween party at the same venue, so they'll fit right in! This will also be their first show since the Swampstravaganza in May, and since their newest "album" releases, so look for some more hard hitting new material in their return to the stage! The third band is to be announced, and while there was at least one open inquiry as to an out of town band playing the show on the Facebook event page, J.D. said that they were "all full up", so we're now in a waiting game to find out who the last band will be. For reference, last year's party at The Rosie featured headliners The Ripcordz and locals Jack Spades (who filled in for Frightlight) and Destroilet, while active local punk trio Redundant played this event in 2011 & 2012. Also, keep in mind that since leaving Coch's Corner, this event has had out of town bands in both of the last two years, so the third band could be from anywhere.

Admission on Halloween will be a higher $10 cover, but you can slash that in half to $5 if you bring a ticket stub from the upcoming Random Killing, Ripcordz, or Gob shows that J.D.'s promoting at The Algonquin Hotel, so keep that deal in mind! A 10:00 PM-ish start time is likely, and you must be 19 to attend. For more details, visit the above links! We'll close today with new videos, including our first full look at Kinross, Michigan classic/hard rockers Banned's new lineup! As uploaded to their YouTube channel in the past week, these two videos come from their set at the Chippewa County Fair on August 29th, and they're of the guys covering Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Who Will Stop The Rain" (ironically, as it was pouring rain during their set) and, as embedded below, Alice In Chains' "Man In The Box"! Note that the latter is called their "updated version" of this AIC cover, but aside from Alex Traynor's deeper singing voice, the only major difference is in the membership. New bassist (and Bad Side alum) Wayne Lawrence is solid on these videos, and Alex's vocal skills are improving with age, so fans should want to check out these new clips! Finally, here's the latest from new local rap/metal project The Apocalypse Afterparty! As you may have heard on Saturday at the IDNS show, singer/bassist Z revealed that we likely wouldn't see them again for 8 months, which was likely due to "songwriter" Steve Mozarowski moving back to the Toronto area. Also, their newest Facebook page post starts by saying that "it's hiatus time for the AA", but is it that simple? The post elaborates that the band has came across two young women (presumably connected to The Smokin' Heroines) who will be joining the band in Steve/X's place, making The Apocalypse Afterparty a trio while he's gone. Things are intentionally written in a cryptic and creative manner, so there are unanswered questions yet. This band has not operated under business as usual since launching, so hopefully we'll hear some more intriguing updates from them yet! As for their public debut concert this past weekend, The Smokin' Heroines shot this Facebook video from The Apocalypse Afterparty's set that was uploaded last night, so what should you know on it?

A 1:50 clip of their cover of The Fury's "The Crowd", the video is darkly lit, but captures fans and the guys equally well from the stage's left, and the solid audio quality makes up for the visibility a lot! Nice fast paced action, and you can tell fans were enjoying the proceedings, so check out the new Apocalypse Afterparty video below!
