Defunct Local Band Profile Series: No Shadows Cast

It's now time for our second post of the day, that being this month's Defunct Local Band Profile, but be sure to check out our preview of TOMORROW'S second night of the VM Radio Battle of the Bands in the post below this one! As always, this monthly feature looks at one or two randomly chosen defunct or inactive local hard rock, metal, or punk bands, in order to spotlight them for current readers & check out what they did during their original run. We had originally planned to look at two bands this month (the second being the defunct Sault Michigan hard rock band 7/47), but the first band had more information than predicted, so they'll get the entirety of this month's profile, and 7/47 will lead a double profile next month. Now, here's this month's Defunct Local Band Profile!

No Shadows Cast

Genre: Metal

Hometown: Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario

Members:

Brian Lester (Garage Inc., After-Shock), all instruments

Audio/Video: No Shadows Cast were working on a debut EP to be called "In Times of Truth", and posted 5 songs between their MySpace and Angelfire pages in 2005 & 2006, but the album was not released. Though generally all solo instrumental material, Brian was joined by guest musicians for some recordings, including his former Garage Inc. bandmate Jake Rendell (now of Blues Harvest & The Wild Iris) for vocals on the song "Dedications", though most other referenced songs with guests are not currently online. If there were ever public videos of No Shadows Cast, they aren't accessible at present, but we'll include a video copy of an N.S.C. song here when available!

Info/Analysis: No Shadows Cast was the metal solo project led by former Garage Inc. guitarist Brian Lester in the mid-2000s, roughly from 2005-2007. Evolving from his prior band work, Brian began recording original solo material in 2005, signing with the independent Bad Luck Productions (ran by his prior bandmate Craig Murphy) and working on a number of solo songs under the No Shadows Cast name alongside occasional guest musicians. Public updates on N.S.C. quietly ended in 2006, and Brian hasn't been seen in a major local music project since. It'd be neat to see Brian return to his old local music work, as he was a talented multi-instrumentalist! He had noticeable guitar skill and a good ear for composition, crafting some accessible but well written originals like "Story of Two" & "Faded Glory", though some songs could be a bit repetitive and light in tone. Give No Shadows Cast a listen, and maybe we'll hear from Brian again at some point!

I hope you guys liked this month's Defunct Local Band Profile! As acknowledged above, we will kick off next month's installment of this series with defunct Sault Michigan hard rock band 7/47 (a Guitar Studio rock camp product), but to fill things out, we'll look at a second randomly selected band with a similar lack of available info/media, this time from Sault Ontario, so who will join them? Through random selection, we've picked Social Suicide, the defunct local metal/punk project led by Them frontman and all ages concert promoter Tyler St. Amour, so look for these profiles on or around April 10th! That's all for today, but we'll see you guys at the VM Radio Battle of the Bands TOMORROW! Thanks everyone!
