LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Gnaeus, Havadder, And Mourning Wood) & Weekend Concert Previews!!

Hey guys, it's now time for this weekend's hard rock concert previews, but as I don't forecast having time tonight for a second post, this will be a special longer preview post touching on concerts from five separate acts rather than our usual one-post maximum of four, so there's a lot to take in this weekend in Sault Ontario! We'll start, as recently usual, with SHORT NOTICE LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS, so here's what you should know!

Local post-punk/gararge rock quartet Gnaeus will play their third show in as many days TONIGHT when they join forces with indie/punk veterans Northwest at LopLops Lounge! Apologies for the short notice, this show has been advertised since Sunday on Northwest's Facebook page, but with time tight while out of town, we couldn't fit it into a post until now. This will be Northwest's first set since opening for The Poor Young Things at LopLops in February, while Gnaeus are fresh off of a double show Wednesday which saw them open for OK Vancouver OK and play a surprise outdoors set during the Soo Greyhounds pre-game street party. Both bands are well matched, and we'll see them again at next month's Swampstravaganza, so keep TONIGHT'S show in mind for some alternative punk action! Note that it's not overly clear online who's headlining the concert.

Admission will be $5 for this 10:00 PM concert TONIGHT, and you must be 19 to attend. For more details, visit the official Facebook event page, and for a preview, here's Gnaeus live at LopLops last year!

Next up, local classic/hard rock quartet Havadder are scheduled to return to The Rockstar Bar for a solo headlining date TONIGHT! Apologies for the short notice, this show was announced via the venue's Facebook event page on Monday, though I will give the caveat that the band hasn't acknowledged it on their own Facebook page as of this writing. If this show is definitely on, it will be Havadder's first at The Rockstar Bar in over three months, after a steady run of Rednecks Saloon appearances, and hopefully Jason, Jamie, Travis, and Scott deliver a solid night of heavy rock covers this weekend! No word on who is playing Saturday night at The Rockstar Bar as of this writing, but Havadder's confirmation for tonight came after the cancellation of a planned concert by Tragically Hip tribute band The Wheat Kings, so it looks Havadder they're a late replacement for tonight.

There's no announced cover charge for tonight's apparently one-night-only gig, you must be 19 to attend, and a 10:30 PM start time is advertised. For more details, check the above links, and here's Havadder live last fall!

Also in the realm of new concert announcements, local classic/hard rock trio Mourning Wood will play their first ever gigs at The Esquire Club TONIGHT & TOMORROW NIGHT! Again, apologies for the short notice, the band even referred to these gigs as a "last minute surprise" when announced via their Facebook event page yesterday. Though this west end venue is still largely unfamiliar for SMS-covered bands (The Danger Cats aside), Mourning Wood have always shown a propensity to expand to unique venues and play anywhere that fits, and hopefully they add some grit and heavy covers to this popular bar this weekend! There's no announced cover charge for this weekend's gigs (but bring cash just in case), you must be 19 to attend, and these shows have 10:00 PM start times. For more details, visit the above links, and here's Mourning Wood live last fall!

Moving to previously announced concerts, local hard rock cover quartet Griphook will return to the concert stage TONIGHT & TOMORROW NIGHT with sets at The Rednecks Saloon! Surprisingly making their first appearances of the year after taking the past three months off from the stage, these will also be Griphook's first concerts at the former Nicolet Tavern since November. No word on where Joel, Brian, Dan, and Anthony have been lately, but it's great to see their hard hitting classic sound back on the local stage this weekend, so don't miss their return tonight and/or tomorrow! Like usual for their concerts, there is no announced cover charge for either night, you must be 19 to attend, and there are 10:00 PM start time in effect. For more details, visit the official Facebook event page, and for a preview, here's Griphook live at Rotaryfest last summer!

Finally for this extended-length concert preview post, we'll head to The Harp Bar & Grill, where longtime Caveman Morrison frontman Tym Morrison will continue his long running weekly concert arrangement there with solo acoustic shows TONIGHT & TOMORROW NIGHT! It remains to be seen whether Tym will continue this long running streak of weekend acoustic concerts at the former Madison's Pub past May 1st, but his unplugged hard rock covers are always a good reliable time, especially given his extensive songbook of familiar classics, so don't miss out on his latest Harp shows this weekend! Like usual for Tym's Harp gigs, there are no announced cover charges, 10:00 PM start times, and 19+ age limits for this weekend's gigs. For more details, visit the official Facebook event page, and here's Tym covering Metallica live a few years back!

That's all for today, but stay tuned for this month's Defunct Local Band Profile and more this weekend! Thanks everyone!
