LOCAL CONCERT ALERT (Caroline Divine) And Anvil Concert Videos!!

To cap off another week at the SMS (barring a very late notice show announcement), we have new videos from a big metal show from a few months back, but first, here's a LOCAL CONCERT ALERT for next week!

Local glam/power pop trio Caroline Divine and rising indie rock band Aldous will hit LopLops Lounge for a show this coming Saturday night! The concert will serve as an encore performance for both bands, as they're among the lineup for the returning Rotaryfest Second Stage at Clergue Park that same day, so while LopLops are no longer curating Stage 2, it's clear they're still backing the bands and original music! As best as I can tell, this will be both bands' first LopLops set since Lopstock II last month, and they've both been making steady waves in recent months, so whether you want some hard edged retro rock or "that strange electric taste", you have options in the day and at night on Saturday! The Loplops show has an announced 9:00 PM start time, no announced cover charge, and a 19+ age limit, but if you're underage and want to see both bands, head to the stage outside of The Art Gallery that afternoon during Rotaryfest. For more details, visit the official Facebook event page, and stay tuned for more on both events!

The rest of this post focuses on nine videos from the Anvil-headlined concert at The Rockstar Bar on April 1st, which were finally uploaded by attendee Christopher Paci on his YouTube channel in the last few days! No word on why it took over 3 months for these to make it online, but it's definitely better late than never! Chris filmed all three bands that night, but we'll start with the headliners, Toronto metal legends Anvil, who are the focus of 6 of his uploads, including of their songs "Running", "On Fire", and "Metal On Metal", and two parts of Robb Reiner's drum solo (here & here), but embedded below are their set openers "March Of The Crabs" & "666". Christopher had a good close angle of the new Anvil lineup (including new bassist Chris Robertson), and while the audio is a little scratchy and vocally muffled, these videos are all solid and help give a nice glimpse into this successful and packed concert! Give his Anvil videos a look above and below, and hopefully Anvil come back to the Soo soon!

Chris also filmed two videos of local punk/metal quintet Jack Spades from their co-headlining set on April Fools Day, including of their cover of The Ripcordz' "X" and, as embedded below, them playing their original songs "They Live" & "Rise". Compared to the Anvil videos, Chris filmed these from one of the tables at the bar, so the view suffers from that and people being in the way, but the quality is otherwise comparable, and the guys sound solid as usual! Give these videos a look above and below also!

Finally, Chris shot one video of opening classic metal quartet Project 421 (with then-drummer Larry Mousseau) in their first regular concert following March's battle of the bands sets, and their video is of their cover of Black Sabbath's "Children of the Sea". The vocal parts are a little out of Blair Burch's range, but he acclimates himself well here, and the guys have a nice handle of this Dio-era Sabbath classic, so give it a watch below as well!

That's all for today, but stay tuned for more news and notes in the coming days! Thanks everyone!
