LOCAL CONCERT ALERT (Mike Haggith & The Din), K'Man & The 45s Concert Preview, And More!!

We're back with some news on the site today, so what's on tap? A few assorted stories, a surprise video from a major local concert eight years ago, and a preview of a Sunday night concert coming up, but let's lead off with a LOCAL CONCERT ALERT for later this month!

Three local hard rock and punk bands will join forces for a concert on Saturday, November 28th at The Algonquin Pub! No word on if there's a special occasion of note for the show, but the headliners are local alternative hard rock trio Mike Haggith & The Din, who will be making their first live concert appearance in over 4 months that night, and will also mark the live debut of new guitarist Tammy Hill, so be sure to welcome her to The Din in three weeks' time! Joining them on the lineup are hard rock quartet Long Shot (who also haven't played a public local gig in 4 months) and punk quartet Stereo North (with new covers and a new original in tow), and this adds up to a nicely varied lineup of rising local talent! A $5 cover charge is in effect for this 19+ concert, which will begin at 9:30 PM, and get more details at the above links! This should be a fun show, with all three bands working on new original material recently, so don't miss out at month's end!

And just for clarification, members of Stereo North played at a local open mic competition (venue uncredited) on October 17th, which they promoted it after the fact like it was a concert. Even if the band had plugged it in advance, we don't treat open mic nights (competitive or otherwise) as "concerts" for our coverage, as they are more informal events with unpredictable lineups, but I do encourage musicians and fans to check them out, as they generally are fun!

Next up, here's our preview of a special Sunday night concert TOMORROW at The New American Pub, as Montreal ska punk quintet K'Man & The 45s will be back in the Soo for their third headlining appearance here in as many years! After two autumn Rockstar Bar sets under J.D. Pearce's promotion, Six Two Oh are putting this one on at The New A, but even with the change, there's already a lot of advance attention from fans of K'Man & The 45s' entertaining ska-punk originals and "Ska-Mones" tribute! Local funk/hard rock quartet The Elements will open, presumably with their regular set back after their Sublime tribute on Halloween, but some covers of theirs wouldn't come amiss tomorrow! Promoters also noted when the show was originally announced that there "may be one more band", but there has been no public follow-through on that. This 19+ concert will start closer to 10:00 PM tomorrow, and there is a $5 cover charge. For more details, visit the official Facebook event page & this SooToday article!

It's great to see K'Man & The 45s back once again for what's turning into a fall tradition of sorts around here, and their catchy & vibrant sets will definitely be worth checking out for genre fans! For a preview, here they are live in Montreal last year!

Also, here's a surprise new video from the outdoor Kiss concert at the Sault Michigan Kewadin Casino in July 2007 that I haven't seen before, and on a YouTube scan, isn't a duplicate of a previously posted video. Uploaded last week by YouTube user Imre Molnar (whose uploads are largely from concerts in the Tennessee area), this is of Kiss playing their classic song "Lick It Up" at the show from a close front row angle, and while the video is incomplete, it's nice to see new footage from this huge concert! The audio's a little scratchy, but give it a look below!

Finally for today, here's three assorted shorter items from the last while, and as usual, these are in alphabetical order by artist or event name:

  • On Tuesday, local grunge/alternative trio The Pixo Control quietly revealed on their Facebook page that their debut CD "Probably Not" would be released on Saturday, December 12th. No other details have been announced, including on availability, a potential release concert, and so forth, but note that the guys have been fairly quiet this fall aside from scattered photos teasing the album and recording sessions. Hopefully the release date holds up!
  • The benefit concert for late Sabrina Pelchat at The Rednecks Saloon on November 20th (now labelled as a "celebration of life") has seen slight changes in the band order for unannounced reasons, including the postponement of the bands' sets by an hour each (doors now open at 9:00 PM.) The Bear Hunters have been moved from the second slot to the closing headliner position at 1:00 AM, but AlgomA & Destroilet will retain their original 12:00 AM & 11:00 PM slots due to the hour's delay, and Sykotyk Rampage will still open, now at 10:00 PM. Get full details (including the official poster) at this link!
  • Ex-RedD Monkey/Smeltzer frontman Steve Mozarowski ("Suzy Karamozarov" on Facebook) is looking for a drummer (and possibly a bassist) for his current project, which has aspirations to play original music & tour. No word on if this relates to lineup changes for his recent project Faceityoureametalband, or a separate new band, but if you're interested in more details, message Steve at this link or via his Musicians Wanted Facebook group post from yesterday!

That's all for today, but stay tuned for much more next week & beyond! Thanks everyone!
