Info On Tym Morrison's Live-Streams From Last Week, Plus An Inactive Band Note!!

On this Tuesday night, we have a note on a band recently moved to our inactive band links, but first, here's the full rundown on a prolific local musician's at-home concerts that you may have caught live last week!

Before we look at TONIGHT'S live-streamed concert, let's give an overdue look to ex-Caveman Morrison frontman Tym Morrison's two at-home shows from last week, both as live-streamed on his YouTube channel! As has been the case in recent weeks, both of these videos have had embedding privileges removed, but I will link to everything so you know where to go. Had embedding been allowed, I'd have featured episode #32 from last Tuesday, which is the longer of the two, and you do get a full 2 hours worth of unplugged music here! This episode begins about 10 minutes into the video with a cover of Phil Collins' "Against All Odds (Take A Look At Me Now)", before Tym talks with viewers of the live-stream for a couple of minutes, even playing a snippet of Beethoven's "Für Elise". Afterwards, he covers The Romantics' "Talking In Your Sleep", Oasis' "Wonderwall", The Who's "Pinball Wizard", The Beatles' "Here Comes The Sun", Simon & Garfunkel's "The Sound of Silence", ...

...Fleetwood Mac's "Never Going Back Again", and Toto's "Africa", before tackling two originals, including "Love Is In The Air"  (I think) and "Nadine RIP My Friend". The covers return with Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time", Abba's "The Winner Takes It All", and Toto's "Hold The Line", before Tym outlines some of his imminent plans for live performances (none have been publically acknowledged as formal public "concerts"). Tym next covers Berlin's "Take My Breath Away" and Roxette's "It Must Have Been Love", before doing another original song named "Together In The End". The set finished with covers of Amy Holland's "Shooting For The Moon", Supertramp's "Breakfast In America", two songs by Yes ("Owner Of A Lonely Heart" & "Love Will Find A Way"), Richard Marx's "Hold On To The Nights", Tesla's "Love Song", and finally, Simon & Garfunkel's "The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)".

Solid set with lots of familiar but well performed covers, plus some nicely handled original tracks, and Tym's vocal skills and strong guitar work came through very well with no lag! However, five covers were carried over from the previous Thursday's live-streamed concert. Now, let's discuss Tym's 33rd live-streamed show from this past Thursday, which also begins about 10 minutes in, including his renditions of Jim Croce's "Time In A Bottle", Van Morrison's "Have I Told You Lately", Bryan Adams' "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You", Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead Or Alive", White Lion's "When The Children Cry", Tom Petty's "Free Fallin'", Little Texas' "What Might Have Been", Eric Carmen's "Hungry Eyes", Chris de Burgh's "Lady In Red", Tears For Fears'' "Mad World", Boston's "Amanda", Garth Brooks' "The Dance", The Beatles' "Blackbird", Brooks & Dunn's "Rock My World (Little Country Girl)", Night Ranger's "Sister Christian", Bo Diddley's "Before You Accuse Me", ...

...Ozzy Osbourne's "Crazy Train", Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama",Blue Oyster Cult's "(Don't Fear) The Reaper", and finally, The Stone Temple Pilots' "Plush", with Tym calling the set off a half hour short due to his back hurting. Another quality set of wall-to-wall covers, all unique from last Tuesday, and while it did seem to be hotter there, his vocal and guitar work was consistent throughout this live-stream! Finally, we have a band to move to our inactive local band links once again, namely local death metal trio Pillory. The band has not issued a public update since opening for Black Crown Initiate at The Rockstar Bar one year ago yesterday, itself their only live appearance since the Rivers of Nihil show at the same venue a year prior. Meanwhile, since then-bassist Jordan Leach moved out of the country 3 years ago, the band has only posted on their Facebook page once, where they updated fans on their second CD's recording sessions back in November 2018. Originally active as a thrash metal quartet from 2012-2014, Pillory relaunched in 2015 with a new death metal sound and a three-piece lineup, and would become reasonably prominent at local concerts from 2016-2017, including at the 2016 Speak Easy Battle of the Bands, and sets opening for touring bands like Darsombra, Iskra, and Norilsk.

Of course, the ongoing pandemic could be a factor in Pillory's now year-long inactivity, but their very minimal public updates in the past 3 years can't be ignored. While their original thrash run had it's share of highlights, Pillory's more brutal and technical music showed what they could do musically even moreso, and it's a shame they haven't been more active in the late 2010s. That said, there's lots of video clips and teasers from concerts and jam sessions to check out online in the interim.
