LOCAL CONCERT ALERT (The Wyld Stallyns), Plus Rotaryfest Stage 2 & Tarnished Concert Previews!!

(Edited at 11:00 AM) Day #3 of our four day Rotaryfest weekend concert preview gauntlet is here, as we conclude our Rotaryfest previews and touch on a show in Sault Michigan, but first, here's another SHORT NOTICE LOCAL CONCERT ALERT!

Fresh off of their Rotaryfest Stage 1 set on Thursday, local funk/hard rock band The Wyld Stallyns will return to The Whisky Barrel on Gore Street for one night only TONIGHT! Apologies for the short notice, this show was announced via the venue's Facebook page on July 6th in their monthly concert calendar (I admittedly need to check their page more), and the show is not mentioned on the band's own Facebook page. Photos from Rotaryfest on personal accounts imply that their set went well, and hopefully their return to The Whisky Barrel (which they play about once a month) will deliver more fan friendly hard rock and other covers! No word on if new bassist Alex White or guest saxophonist Josh Norling will turn up TONIGHT, but remember that The Whisky Barrel only books acoustic bands as a rule, and photos of The Stallyns there have usually only featured Christina, Rob, Jesse, and their drummer at the time.

TONIGHT's show has an 8:00 PM start time, 19+ age limit, and no cover charge, and it's also worth noting that members of The Wyld Stallyns will be involved in The Whisky Barrel's live stage production (yes, in the bar) of the musical Hedwig & The Angry Inch next week! Next up, let's finish off our Rotaryfest previews for this year, as the returning Stage 2 hosts its second and longest day of music TODAY! Following last night's Friday Night Blues lineup, today's slate of original-leaning music is a return to the Stage 2 of the mid-late 2010s, with the stage back at Clergue Park beside The Art Gallery of Algoma after a two year pandemic hiatus (though Stage 2 amenable acts were folded into the 2020 & 2021 music lineups, and they used the smaller Stage 2 stage at Lowe's Plaza last year). Curated by ex-Free Beer/Id Iota guitarist Dustin Goodall, the music lineup tonight will be very friendly to to anyone who followed Clusterfolk and/or Dryer Fire this year, and will be headlined by local indie/punk quintet The Northwest in their third Second Stage appearance and first since tacking "The" to their name. Still riding high from the release of their new EP "All In", don't miss their upbeat summery punk originals at 8:30 PM!

Psychedelic hard rock quartet The Uncanny Valley will co-headline at 7:30 PM in their second straight Rotaryfest, and their promising original music should be right at home once again this evening! In a late replacement, local alt-rock trio Xeno (featuring Vol., Id Iota, and Pixo Control alumni) will replace The Dynowaves at the 6:30 PM timeslot due to a medical emergency for a band member (source here). Hopefully they get well soon, but Xeno are a promising group! Fresh off of their Shooters gig last night (which was branded as "members of..." as "Ourselves" again), funk/alternative rock quartet Handsome Sandwich will be in unequivocally normal mode at 5:30 PM with more tasty jams, while DJ Seith's hip-hop duo Planet Rock will play Stage 2 for the first time since 2019 at 4:30 PM. New local indie rock band The Hollow Heads (featuring Clusterfolk performer Gabrielle Dumas) will play at 3:30 PM.

Young pop rock group Jupiter Marvelous hit the Second Stage at 2:30 PM, preceded by indie/folk duo Sainte Marie at 1:30 PM, and fast rising punk/alternative quintet These Magnificent Tentacles will kick things off today at 12:30 PM. Stacked lineup with lots of talented musicians, mostly new to Rotaryfest, and there's enough heavier music to go around, so don't miss out today! As usual, Stage 2 is FREE & ALL AGES, and 9&10 News is calling for sunny-partly cloudy weather from 23-27°. See above for full details (minus the 6:30 PM timeslot), and here's (The) Northwest live!

Finally for today's concert preview post (there's more coming tomorrow morning, don't worry!), we'll head south to Michigan's Eastern Upper Peninsula, as local hard rock quartet Tarnished will head to Snows Bar & Grill in nearby Cedarville for one night only TONIGHT! Unlike Tarnished's Snowsfest set in February, tonight's show seems to be a standard Tarnished concert with no frills or themes, so if you're up for Tarnished's hard hitting original songs and plentiful fan friendly covers, you know where to go! This single band event takes place at 1187 South Park Avenue (about 40 minutes south of Sault Ste. Marie) tonight at 9:00 PM with no announced cover charge, and there is a 21+ age limit.
