The second concert weekend of 2024 is upon us, so let's dive into another round of weekend concert previews! Due to the amount of shows, I'll hold our preview of Saturday night's Sell This! CD release party for tomorrow's post, so don't worry, it is coming! Now, here's what you should know for this weekend, starting with SHORT NOTICE LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS!
Local classic/hard rock cover quartet Double Down will play their first concerts of 2024 TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT at Jay's Piston Broke Pub! Apologies for the short notice, the band only announced these shows via their Facebook page on Sunday. Last seen two weeks ago at The Esquire Club, these will be Double Down's first shows at the former Reggie's West in three months. This talented union of Mojo, 100 Gran, and Mustang Heart alumni should have lots of fan friendly and Cancon-laden rock covers in store for fans at Jay's TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT, so keep these shows in mind despite the late notice! As usual for shows at the Korah Road staple, expect 19+ age limits, no cover charges, and 9:30 PM start times. See above for more details, and for a preview, here's Double Down live at Jay's the last time they played there in October!Next up, fellow local classic/hard rock cover quartet Soundcheck will return to The Esquire Club for shows TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT as well! Again, apologies for the short notice, these gigs were first announced in the venue's January concert calendar last week, but it only went online on Monday, and I didn't want to plug these shows redundantly twice in a three day span. This is the first of five concert weekends booked at The Esquire Club in the first half of 2024 (at least so far), so fans will get lots of action from Cameron, Terry, Jim, and Glen on Second Line West in the months ahead... well, not in April! Soundcheck (no space) will take the stage TOMORROW & SATURDAY at 9:00 PM, these are 19+ affairs, and neither date has a cover charge. Visit the above links for more details on Soundcheck's 2024 Esquire Club slate, and here they are live!
Also this weekend, newer local classic/hard rock cover quartet Silent 9 will make their 2024 debut when they rock The Water Tower Pub for one night only TOMORROW NIGHT! After spending December playing at private/fundraiser gigs, this will kick off a busier early 2024 slate for them, but this will be the only booking for (as they also spell it in some marketing) Silent Nin9 at The Water Tower Pub until May, unless they get another new show there beforehand. As is typical for the Great Northern Road nightclub, The Water Tower Pub hosts different bands nightly, with online page-less cover rock trio Wheelhouse (featuring Stiffler's Mom alumni) playing there on Saturday. Silent 9 take the stage there tomorrow at 8:00 PM, this is a 19+ event, and there is no announced cover charge. Hopefully this kicks off a new year on the right foot for Silent 9, so see above for more details, and here they are live!
Finally for today's previews, we'll head downtown to Reggie's Place, where local southern hard rock trio Bone Yard will return for shows TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT! While we didn't see much of Greg, Alex, and Warren at the Queen Street East staple last year, these will be Bone Yard's first shows at Reggie's in just over a month, so could 2024 prove to be more fruitful for gigs there? In any event, Bone Yard's southern fried brand of classic and hard rock covers should go over swimmingly tomorrow & Saturday at Reggie's, so don't miss out on all of the action if you're up for it! As usual for Reggie's, expect 9:30 PM start times, 19+ age limits, and no cover charges this weekend, and if you can't make it, they'll also be downtown at Shooters for a one nighter next weekend. See above for more details, and here's Bone Yard live at Reggie's!
That's all for today, but stay tuned for more news and notes on the site soon! Thanks everyone!
