Local Concert Previews For This Weekend, And Assorted Updates!

Hey guys, it's time to update the SMS once again! Of course, I can't top the Three Days Grace announcement right now, but I have a bunch of stuff to get to today. And to start, there's some metal shows this weekend! One in Sault Ontario, two in Sault Michigan! So here we go, these are your local concert previews for this weekend!

First of all, Caveman Morrison singer/guitarist Tym Morrison will be performing tomorrow night at 10:00 at The Bottoms Up Lounge on Queen Street East! He plays there and a few other local venues frequently with his acoustic solo act, and finally I know of a Tym Morrison show BEFORE it happens! Now, don't let the unplugged nature of his solo stuff fool you, he still breaks out heavy songs at these shows! Check out the list of songs he plays on Facebook, there's dozens of quality songs there! Plus, he has some original material too, but I can't say if he'll break any of it out tomorrow. No word on a possible admission price either. Get full details on this show by visiting the official Facebook event page!

I've always liked Tym's music and it's great to see him playing shows in Sault Ontario again! Now I can't find any video of Tym's solo stuff by itself, I've tried. But he has plenty of original tracks at his official website, including samples from his debut album (I gotta review that one of these months) and much more! Trust me, he's one hell of a guitarist, check him out! If you do want some video footage, there's clips of Caveman Morrison on his site too, which work well enough, though I can't embed them here. If you can go see Tym tomorrow night, do so!!

Also, I better talk a bit about Bottoms Up Lounge, which I'm not used to mentioning for local shows. It's the bar above Vincenzo's Restaurant on Queen Street East, across from The Essar Center. Looks like a nice inviting place! They frequently have concerts on weekends, but aside from Tym, I haven't heard anything metal from there. But I'll be sure to keep tabs on it from now on! They also have an official website, which you can check out at this location! It's now in the Sault Ontario Concert Venue Info on the left of the page, while the now-closed Arcadia Coffeehouse has been removed.

Meanwhile, in Sault Michigan, local classic hard rockers Bad Side are back! They're scheduled for two shows tomorrow and Saturday night at The Rapids Lounge at Kewadin Casino! Both shows will take place at 9:00 PM! This will be your last chance to see Bad Side live in the Sault area before they head to Nashville to record their new album, so if you can, make it out to see them this weekend! I already sung the praises of Bad Side in my review of their first album, but trust me, they're awesome and will put on two great shows this weekend! Confirm your attendance for either show on Facebook by clicking here for tomorrow's concert or here for Saturday's concert!

For a preview, here's a clip of Bad Side performing one of my favourite songs off of their debut album, "See Now"! Check it out!

And remember, if I hear anything from these shows, I'll be sure to share it with you guys! I would tell you about the shows next weekend, but as of now, I don't know of any. I'll keep you posted if I hear of anything! Now, onto some assorted updates!

Do you all remember back in August when I added a new Sault Michigan band named Intrepid to the band links on the SMS? Well, they've finally made themselves an official MySpace page! I'd been using guitarist Donnie Hank's YouTube channel for over a month, but lucky for us, they're now on MySpace! As you may know, Intrepid are one of the younger local bands, who formed last year thanks to The Guitar Studio's Summer Rock Camp program! They recently played with fellow Rock Camp bands 7/47 and Unleashed at The Soo Theater, and also played at The Essar Center for the New Year's celebrations they had going on there! No audio on their MySpace page to speak of yet, but head to this location to view some live clips of Intrepid, they definitely have some great promise!

And finally for today, three quick updates on a few local bands!
  • End of Existense, the new band featuring ex-members of Integrated System of Machines, have quietly changed their name to In Memorandum. Their MySpace page has changed any reference of their name to reflect this, except their URL, oddly. Nothing else new to speak of right now, but hopefully we will soon! And I edited my post last weekend about these guys to reflect the new name too!
  • Sault Michigan hard rockers Clownsack have resurfaced! They posted an update on their MySpace blog that indicates that they are working on their new album, and they're working on shows for next year as well! They also promise to post new material on their MySpace page when it's ready. Nice to see they're still around, I can't wait for the new stuff!
  • Sault Ontario's own Half Past need your help! They're looking for your recommendations of songs to add to their setlist, so if you know of a song you'd like Half Past to cover, post a reply to the official topic on their Facebook page! Keep it in their genre of music though, they don't wanna cover Yanni or Michael Bolton!
That's all I have for today, well, except this: Three Days Grace tickets go on sale Saturday, so if you wanna go, get them ASAP! I'll see you guys real soon with some more updates!
