New Videos From Two Local Hard Rock Singer/Guitarists!!

For this 65th straight daily post at The Sault Metal Scene, we're diving into the video well once again, starting with two new uploads from local/Thompson, Manitoba alt-rock mainstay Mike Haggith's Facebook page! Along with an isolated copy of his "Purple Rain" cover from #LockdownLive VII on Friday,  Mike live-streamed a 73 minutes long "post-show" on Saturday which was ostensibly begun to announce the winner of his contest from the previous night, where the person who shared the live-stream the most times would win the right to choose a song that Mike has to cover in #LockdownLive VIII this Saturday, no questions asked. Collectively, viewers shared the live-streamed CD release concert 69 times, and the winner of the contest (with 19 shares) was A Dire Setback bassist Matthew Quinn, who would have performed in Mike's backing band had the original release concert at LopLops went down. With that said, what song did Matt pick for Mike to cover?

As revealed via a live call-in, Matt chose "Drop 'Em Out" by comedy country musician Wheeler Walker, Jr., and if you read the very adult lyrics, you'll quickly see that this isn't a song chosen as a pure musical showcase, I'll leave it at that. Mike looks up the song's lyrics later on in the video, and his reaction is great! We'll see how he handles said song on Saturday night. Mike then thanked everyone for their support and promotion of the previous day's show, and then broke out his guitar for a mini-LockdownLive set, with even more responses to viewers than normal, and yes, lots of irreverence! Mike started with a very loose rendition of Sidney Castel's "The Thompson Song", which he doesn't 100% know but was hoping might be the fan request, before tackling Stephen Stills' "Love The One You're With", and an unreleased original song bumped from his upcoming CD "Bridges", entitled "Cold Spell".

Afterward, he moves to his usual #LockdownLive location to plug in his camera (and letting us see his cat Artemis.), hears "Drop 'Em Out", and does a live poll to see if he should continue do share contests to pick songs to cover, with fans overwhelming voting in favour. After more conversation, Mike finishes with requested covers of The Din's "Suburban Dream" & "Give Me A Reason", before wrapping up by suggesting a private group for invited fans only to hear exclusive content and teasers. If such a group is launched, I wouldn't cover stuff from it without consent, of course. It's amazing how a 10 minute video can grow into this hour+ town hall of sorts, but the amusing camaraderie is always welcome, and the songs we hear are entertaining! Look for more music and witty commentary on Saturday, and give #LockdownLive 7.5 a watch below!

Finally, local hard rock singer/guitarist Tym Morrison hosted his 14th live-streamed concert on his YouTube channel last night! The show proper begins at the 5 minute mark of the video, with Tym covering A-ha's "Take On Me" (with break to adjust his microphone), Tom Petty's "Yer So Bad", Ed Sheeran's "Perfect", and Foreigner's "That Was Yesterday", before attempting Franz Schubert's "Ave Maria", which he cut off early due to difficulty performing it. Tym resumed with performances of 10cc's "I'm Not In Love", Radiohead's "Karma Police", Aerosmith's "Dream On", Phil Collins' "One More Night", an original jazz instrumental, Yes' "Owner Of A Lonely Heart", and Kansas' "Dust In The Wind". The live-stream abruptly ended during Tym's last song while he was still playing, and while Tym has not visibly acknowledged what happened, the feed was getting choppier by the end, and there seemed to be more delays and technical glitches earlier in his set, though I don't know whether they were factors.

This is Tym's second live-streamed concert to be cut short, and while it and the earlier hang-ups are disappointing, the performances were solid while they lasted, and "Dream On" aside, no songs were repeated from last Thursday's show! Give the whole thing a watch below, and hopefully tomorrow's likely live-stream runs smoother and longer overall!

That's all for today, but stay tuned for more news and notes on the site shortly! Thanks everyone!
