LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Soundcheck & Curtis McKenzie) And Weekend Concert Previews!!

Time got away from me yesterday, so between that and arguably the last mega-busy concert weekend of the summer, we'll push this month's YouTube Channel Profile up slightly to dive into what will be at least four posts with weekend concert previews as we wrap up August 2026! Today's previews look at shows from bands in Sault Ontario playing shows tomorrow in some form or fashion, but we'll start with SHORT NOTICE LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS!

Former Project 421/Eclipse frontman Curtis McKenzie will reportedly return to The Dive Gastro Pub for one night only TONIGHT! Apologies for the short notice, Curt only announced this show via his Facebook page on Monday, and as increasingly usual, The Dive has not corroborated this gig on their Facebook page at press time. Last seen at Beck's earlier this month, fans were last able to see Curtis at the former Low & Slow in early July, and hopefully there's a decent crowd at The Dive TONIGHT for his unplugged hard rock and grunge covers once again despite the few days' notice! While not firmly stated, this should be a "Patio Play" gig based on the recent Thursday gigs that The Dive did actually promote, so weather-wise, 9&10 News is calling for clear skies with 13-15° temperatures TONIGHT. The show begins at 9:30 PM with no cover, so see above for more details, and here's Curtis live!

Next up, local classic/hard rock cover quartet Soundcheck will reportedly rock Jay's Piston Broke Pub for a second straight week TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT! Again, apologies for the short notice, I only learned of these bookings via personal Facebook postings on Wednesday, and Jay's has not newly confirmed the shows (this AI-generated poster was made by the venue for prior bookings). The band has dropped out of their planned Friday-only Water Tower Pub concert for unannounced reasons, with his weekend's apparent return to Jay's being Soundcheck's second pair of concerts since announcing the retirement of bassist Jim Michaud, but they nor their sister band Separate Wayz have confirmed if Jim has been replaced yet or not. You can find out for yourself who (if anyone) is on bass at Jay's TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT! These shows are not "epic crossovers" with Separate Wayz, but Nicole will be back with Terry, Johnny, and *insert bassist here* (and Travis?) next month.

For what it's worth, I believe I have identified former Korner Monsters guitarist Rusty Barrel as the synth player seen in some prior live photos. Rusty guested with former Soundcheck singer/guitarist Cameron Oliver on cajon at many of his final local gigs before moving to the USA, and he also played cajon for TNT (Travis & Terry's acoustic side project) during their Nicole-bolstered set at Maddy's Mighty Mutts' Family Fun Day earlier this month. As best as I can tell, he is a guest performer regardless of band name (he didn't make the Chapleau trip), but it's good to fill in that blank! TOMORROW & SATURDAY's concerts are at 9:30 PM with 19+ age limits and no cover. See above for more details, and here's Soundcheck live!

Now to shows that did have advance notice, and we'll start with local acoustic punk duo Dos Amigos, who will kick off a busy end-of-summer weekend with shows at Thomson Farms Cider & Winery TODAY and at The Whisky Barrel TOMORROW NIGHT! Doubling these up here because they're both standard concerts, just at two very different locales, with Mikey & Dustin first heading north to the Third Line West cider mill, farm, and winery for another evening of acoustic punk covers outdoors this evening, though the end of summer doesn't necessarily mean the end of shows there for 2026, as Thomson Farms will remain open through the end of October. The BookcluB side project will then head downtown tomorrow night for a concert at The Whisky Barrel on Gore Street, marking their first stop at this Irish pub since early last month, so if this is better located or timed, keep this show in mind for tomorrow!

Our preview of Saturday's Prince Fest will be in our third weekend concert preview post, as Northern Vibe will be next given that its Friday lineup begins sooner than the cover bands that night in city limits. This evening's Thomson Farms show is at 6:00 PM (9&10 News has light clouds and temperatures of 16-19° during the three hour showtime on the patio), while tomorrow's Whisky Barrel concert is at 8:00 PM indoors. Finally for weekend concert preview post #1, we'll head to Reggie's Place, where local classic/hard rock cover quartet Generations will take the stage TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT! For as experienced and frequently seen as Generations are, these will surprisingly be their first Reggie's concerts since July of last year, and thusly their first stops at this Queen Street East staple with new guitarist Joe Miller (who hasn't played at Reggie's in way longer than that). Hopefully there's a solid turnout tomorrow and Saturday for their old school rock favourites, and the band has teased maybe debuting some new songs in their sets this weekend! Both shows are at 9:30 PM with 19+ age limits and no cover. Visit the above links for more details, and for a preview, here's a new video of Generations live at The Water Tower Pub last month! This was shared to their Facebook group via Joe's personal Facebook page.

The 2+ minute video sees Generations covering most of The Headpins' "Don't It Make Ya Feel", which is some welcomed hard rockin' Cancon that Valerie sings with gusto, and while the song isn't fully captured via this stationary camera, at least it's horizontal. There is a couple blocking our view of Pierre and Tony, but they're enjoying their evening at a provided table, so I blame the camera placement. Still a solid cover, so give it a watch below, and see more from Generations at Reggie's this weekend!

LOCAL CONCERT ALERT (Salem Trials) & Videos From Maddy's Mighty Mutts' Family Fun Day!!

With this being the quietest concert weekend in a month or so, we have some extra time to tick some more items off of our backlog, so here's a new news post on this Friday afternoon, and it includes new videos and related updates from a recent fundraiser event. However, leading off is a LOCAL CONCERT ALERT of a very heavy persuasion for next month!

In the newest concert announcement from local promoters Undergound Events SSM, Ottawa deathcore quintet Salem Trials will make their local debut on Saturday, September 26th at Blaster Powerhouse! A brutal and intense batch of original songs will be in store next month from this very heavy group, who definitely caught my attention from the off, so keep their gig at the former Soo Blaster in mind! Another Ottawa-based quintet (metalcore band The Jenova Projekt) will play Sault Ste. Marie for the first time next month, and while not ad relentless, they have an appealing hard-edged sound that reminds me a bit of Demiricous on some songs, and it will be good to have them on stage here also! Local support will come by way of space/hard rock duo The Spaceship Opening (more on them soon) and sporadically seen party metal trio The Apocalypse Afterparty, featuring promoter Mikhal Muto on bass.

While The A.A. missed out on the most recent rap show at Blaster, this will put them in slightly closer musical range to let their double bassed, guitar-devoid brand of music find a receptive audience! This all ages concert will have doors opening at 8:30 PM, and advance tickets will be on sale soon at The Rad Zone and via the local openers for $25 (the door charge will jump to $30). Sounds like a brutal concert to me, and it trends heavier the longer it goes, so visit the official Facebook event page for more details!

Next up, some videos from last week's Maddy's Mighty Mutts Family Fun Day concert at The Roberta Bondar Pavilion have made their way online! Though the exact lineup order was never released, between 9 and 11 acts graced the stage for this dog rescue charity fundraiser on this Wednesday (which is still odd timing to me, especially given its 8 hour runtime). You can see some of what took place that day on the Facebook event page, where promoter Paige Dennie posted videos of four acts there on the "Discussion" thread. The earliest of her videos is of local hard rock quartet 5 Dollar Bribe covering Wheatus' "Teenage Dirtbag", though the video only runs for 35 seconds and was shot vertically (sadly, all of Paige's videos are vertical and short). I'll be honest, I hate "Teenage Dirtbag", but 5 Dollar Bribe play it well from what I can detect, and Jayce's vocals don't wear on me like on the original, so that much is of note! Give their video a watch below!

I wanted to note re: 5 Dollar Bribe too that local classic/hard rock cover band Separate Wayz shared a "Story" on Facebook of 5DB playing during their soundcheck. Why was Separate Wayz present when they weren't playing? Well, singer Nicole Thibodeau was the "friend" (friends?) teased to be guesting with TNT (Soundcheck's Terry Eaton n' Travis Sharpe, the former also in Separate Wayz) here, and Separate Wayz also posted a "Story" of her and TNT covering "Dreams" by Fleetwood Mac at the Family Fun Day. Alas, "Stories" self-destruct after one or two viewings, and are short/vertical videos anyway, so all I can do is tell you about them, but hopefully TNT went over well under the tent! Terry and Travis would perform more with Nicole this past weekend on the road, and I'll talk about that in an upcoming post. Travis was also teased in some event marketing to be guesting with Bone Yard 225 frontman Greg "The Ranting Rockstar" Simpson on this day, but he does not factor into Paige's video from Greg's set.

While being shot vertically doesn't matter for a solo musician, Paige's video runs for only 11 seconds, and it features Greg's slowed down cover of Kiss' "Rock & Roll All Nite", which is a staple of Bone Yard's "uncorked" sets, and The Bearded Lounge's concerts prior. We don't hear much, but if you like Greg's laid back take on this Kiss staple, you'll like what was filmed, as seen below!

Also filmed for the event page was (former?) Dodge This singer/guitarist Jason Taillefer, who had his keyboard ready again here, and Paige filmed him covering Coldplay's "The Scientist" for 21 seconds. Like with "Teenage Dirtbag", I must confess that I don't like Coldplay at all, but Jason at least sings this a little deeper and more matter-of-factly, and he is a talented multi-instrumentalist, as Phatstick fans will be well aware! The last of Paige's videos comes from this concert's co-headliner, namely former Haggith/Eclipse frontman Curtis McKenzie (Bone Yard 225 played last on this evening). Paige filmed him covering Collective Soul's "December", but for one reason or another, this 21 seconds-long instrumental clip can't be embedded on external websites, even though everything else in the post from that day can be. Facebook has been iffier lately re: videos randomly being unembeddable, even with no copyrighted music, so yeah, it's something to juggle at present.

What we hear sounds good, but again, no singing. Embedded below is a video of Curt at the Family Fun Day, but this was actually uploaded by Beck's Bar's Facebook page, with a hard-coded caption slapped on it in post-production to hype Curtis' matinee concert there this past Sunday. Obviously, the caption limits my ability to relevantly use it for concert preview purposes around here, but on this video (also of him covering "December" from a closer vantage point), we do get more of an actual verse with singing, and while I do think Curtis should lower his voice a tad, it's well done for what was filmed! LOCAL CONCERT ALERT (5 Dollar Bribe) & The Rest Of This Weekend's Concert Previews!!

Here's the likely final post for this busy stretch of weekend concert previews! Just as a late note, The Sault Star's Brian Kelly published this article about tomorrow's WestFest II at Anna Marinelli Park, which notes extra details on vendors, the official setlist times for the four acts, and remarks from co-promoter Ronan Provenzano about the hopes and expectations for this festival. Good read, especially if you're invested in the Jamestown and Steelton development, so give it a read above! Now, here's what you should know for this weekend's other hard rock-leaning concerts, starting with a SHORT NOTICE LOCAL CONCERT ALERT!

Fresh off of their set at Maddy's Mighty Mutts' Family Fun Day on Wednesday (more on that event soon), young local hard rock quartet 5 Dollar Bribe will return to Jay's Piston Broke Pub for one night only TONIGHT! Apologies for the short notice, this show was first announced via this AI generated weekly schedule image on Jay's Facebook page on Saturday, with the band only confirming it themselves on Wednesday. Last seen at Jay's (well, outside of it) during last month's ARCH Run, this talented and quickly rising quartet should have another fun night of covers in store TONIGHT, so keep this one in mind if you need some late notice hard rock! This is a one-nighter due to or resulting in tomorrow's concert from classic rock quartet Doo & The Boyos (no word on if their sister band Stones At The Alter will take over a set again or not). While all of 5 Dollar Bribe are under 19, this show will otherwise be 19+.

TONIGHT'S festivities are at 9:30 PM with no cover charge as usual for the former Reggie's West. Uploaded to their Facebook page on Tuesday, this otherwise plugged-in cover of Silverchair's "No Association" features guitarist Tyler Greely on acoustic guitar after he broke a string on his electric guitar (as noted with a caption at the start). Still a well done cover for 1990s grunge fans, if not the whole song, and I am impressed that they don't default to "Tomorrow" for Silverchair cover choices, so give it a watch below, and don't miss them at Jay's TONIGHT!

Next up, let's head to the eighth annual Algoma Tree Services community meet & greet and barbecue, which goes down TOMORROW at 1424 Havilland Shores Drive in Goulais River once again! In this summer staple where Algoma Tree Services gives back to and celebrates with locals for their support over the past year, they're bringing the same lineup as they have had since 2024 tomorrow. Local southern hard rock trio Bone Yard 225 are headlining at 7:00 PM (fresh off of the Maddy's Mighty Mutts Family Fun Day themselves), while classic rock quintet Angry Joe & The Growlers will again kick off the festivities at 1:30 PM in an event that they have played at for years before Bone Yard got in on it (Soundcheck were the headliners prior to 2024). Both bands have four hour nightclub-esque blocks tomorrow, so The Growlers aren't really "opening", but if you like one/both bands, you'll get your fill!

Proceeds of the barbecue go to the Kiwanis Club's childrens operations, and there will be a bonfire on site as well. The meet & greet/concert proper is FREE & ALL AGES, and as this is outdoors, temperatures will run for 16-21° with mostly cloudy skies clearing up as Angry Joe & them are rocking out, and things should be clear for your local 225's entire set. Kudos to both bands for supporting Algoma Tree Services once again, and hopefully there's a decent turnout once again for the food, music, information, and more! Also this weekend, local classic/hard rock cover quartet Generations will return to The Water Tower Pub for one night only on SATURDAY NIGHT! One week removed from their return to the stage at Gateway Casino after a month+ break, fans will have last seen Valerie, Joe, Pierre, and Tony at this Great Northern Road venue on June 27th. If you're up for a night of classic and hard rock cover favourites from this experienced foursome, you can do far worse than come out on Saturday, though be advised that they aren't scheduled for more concerts until they return to Reggie's in three weeks. As usual for The Water Tower Pub, they don't book the same band on consecutive nights, and tonight's performer there is North Channel Sound singer/guitarist Greg Cull as a solo act. Finally for this weekend's previews, another performer at the Maddy's Mighty Mutts Family Fun Day is hitting the stage for another concert this weekend, as former Haggith/Eclipse singer/guitarist Curtis McKenzie will return to Beck's Bar as their matinee performer on SUNDAY! I erroneously thought this was a short notice gig briefly, forgetting that Curt actually announced this show on his Facebook page back in May, as well as his Sunday matinee there in October. This will be your first chance to see Curtis at the former Vibe Lounge this year, having last played at Beck's in November 2025, and hopefully his grunge and hard rock covers find another willing audience on Sunday during Beck's weekly euchre tournament! LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Dos Amigos, Stones & Crows, And Riverside Stasis), Concert Previews, And More!!

Before we begin this weekend's concert previews, I wanted to apologize for missing Bone Yard 225 frontman Greg Simpson's solo gig at The Dive Gastro Pub this past Thursday for coverage on here. Alas, the venue never confirmed the show publically on their Facebook page, and while "the ranting rockstar" did plug it on short notice on his personal Facebook page, he doesn't have a public social media page to promote solo gigs with. Hopefully the concert was a hit, and we'll let you know when we hear more from him and/or Bone Yard! Now, let's dive into most of this weekend's hard rock concert previews, with the Wheelhouse and T.N.T. shows coming in our next news post!

New local alt-hard rock quintet Riverside Stasis will be among TOMORROW'S music lineup at the Poutine Feast at the Downtown Plaza! Apologies for the short notice, frontwoman Tea Emlaw first announced that they'd be playing via her solo Facebook page on Sunday, and You Belong SSM has yet to reveal the full schedule for TOMORROW (they only revealed today's all solo acoustic lineup this morning). Fresh off of their debut set at Blaster Powerhouse this past weekend, this will be your second chance to see this new band live and your first at an outdoor event. Day #3 is expected to have live music from 4:15 PM onward, and Riverside Stasis are expected to hit the stage at around 6:00 PM, and the only other confirmed act that I'm aware of is country musician Jeffrey Wright at 7:15 PM. Apologies for erroneously plugging TOMORROW's program as the Kids Day when this post initially went live, that is actually the Saturday, July 4th theme.

This is FREE & ALL AGES as usual, and 9&10 News is calling for 22-28° temperatures TOMORROW with clouds receding into the afternoon (please be prepared for the hot & humid conditions). Filmed by Drifters frontwoman Elly McWatters from the front row, she got some really nice close-up visuals of the band, harmed only by being just 90 seconds long and vertical (though she does focus on everyone individually). Not my favourite song in the world (at least it's not "Dance Monkey"), but it's well performed, so check it out below!

Next up, local acoustic punk duo Dos Amigos will return to The Whisky Barrel for one night only TOMORROW NIGHT! Again, apologies for the short notice, the venue only announced this show on their Facebook page on Monday, and the band only publically acknowledged the booking in an Instagram "Story", as far as I can tell. Fresh off of their own Poutine Feast gig on Canada Day, it's good to see Mikey & Dustin bringing their unplugged cover project to the stage a little more frequently this summer, and hopefully there's a good turnout at the Gore Street pub TOMORROW for their fan favourite punk covers! Yes, I am aware of their sister band Bookclub's gig next week during the downtown Summer Concert Series, stay tuned for a preview of that in a news post by Monday. Also this weekend, new local blues/hard rock trio Stones & Crows will play their second public concert TOMORROW NIGHT at Beck's Bar! Apologies again for the short notice, the venue only announced this show on their Facebook page on Monday as part of their usual weekly entertainment schedule reveal there (though be advised that Stones & Crows haven't posted on their Facebook page in any way in over two weeks). Originally, Beck's was supposed to have DJ Dark Mark spinning tunes TOMORROW, but a "communication breakdown" led them to look elsewhere for Friday entertainment, and they opted to bring back Stones & Crows just one week after Spencer, Nicholas, and Anthony (er, Bukky, Nikki, and Tony) made their live debut at the same locale. Hopefully things go well for their Beck's encore, and seeing as Anthony is drumming with Riverside Stasis TOMORROW at Poutine Feast as well, he's definitely got a long night ahead!

Like last week, TOMORROW'S Stones & Crows show is at 9:00 PM with no cover and a 19+ age limit. The video sees the guys covering Eric Clapton's "Cocaine", and while something sounds a little out of tune, the guys have a good sound going so far, as you'd hope with this lineup! Alas, the video is vertical, only 44 seconds long, and has the band's name slapped on top in post-production, so while you can see them without those restrictions TOMORROW NIGHT at Beck's, give their first video a watch below! 

Finally for today, here's a show that did get advance notice, as former Project 421/Eclipse frontman Curtis McKenzie will return to the aforementioned Dive Gastro Pub for one night only on SATURDAY! Originally announced back in May on his Facebook page, this will be Curt's first gig at the former Low & Slow since a "Think It Over Thursday" date in April, with an interim gig there on June 13th being called off after The Dive double booked Curtis with another artist. While The Dive has not corroborated this booking on their Facebook page either (I have no idea why they've been so inconsistent for advertising live musicians lately), hopefully Curt has a strong turnout downtown for his alternative and hard rock covers! Saturday concerts this summer at The Dive are "Patio Play" gigs where possible, and 9&10 News is calling for mostly cloudy skies that night with temperatures in the 20° range, and rain is unlikely.

The show is at 9:30 PM with a 19+ age limit and no cover charge, and while the heat wave is still ongoing, it looks to be more comfortable than some nights have been on Saturday, so consider stopping by The Dive if you want some live unplugged rock! As promised, here's the rest of this weekend's hard rock concert previews, but we also have some LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS to touch on, one on SHORT NOTICE, one for next month, so here's what you should know!

Sault Michigan classic/hard rock quartet Tarnished will return to The Merchants Bar for one night only TONIGHT! Apologies for the short notice, this show was only announced on the band's Facebook page yesterday, and as ever, The Merch does not promote bands playing there on social media. TONIGHT's show may be well timed in terms of sports fans being present, as the United States' men's national soccer team opens FIFA World Cup action against Paraguay on Fox (plus CTV in Canada) at 9:00 PM, and The Merch is known to show live sports on the TVs, so will Tarnished's rocking slate of covers prove a good soundtrack if the game is on? Regardless, Alex, Josh, Chris, and Ron are fresh off of concerts at the St. Ignace Kewadin last week, with TONIGHT'S gig being their first in the Soo in over a month, and their first at The Merch in three months. Keep this late notice return to 108 West Spruce Street in mind!

Next up, here's a new show from an artist who was once advertised to be playing this weekend, as Sault Ontario alternative/hard rock singer/guitarist Curtis McKenzie will bring his acoustic solo show back to The Dive Gastro Pub on Saturday, July 4th! Curt had announced this show on his Facebook page on May 20th (apologies for the delay in that making the site until now), but it was announced alongside a show at The Dive tomorrow that Curt eventually confirmed was cancelled due to being double booked. If you didn't read yesterday's post, The Dive are hosting new local "diamond rock" quartet Stones At The Alter on their patio for a short notice outdoor concert TOMORROW NIGHT. At least Curtis will be back in three weeks, so if you like the Project 421/Eclipse alum's unplugged hard rock covers, you know where to be! This is expected to be a "Patio Play" concert, weather permitting.

As usual for Thursday nighters at The Dive, this Fourth of July concert is at 9:30 PM with a 19+ age limit and no cover charge. Hopefully things go well (and that Curt isn't double booked again) next month, so visit the above links for more details on his next advertised solo date!

Back to this weekend's concert previews now via a pair of shows that do have advance notice, starting with local southern hard rock trio Bone Yard 225, who will return to Beck's Bar for one night only TONIGHT! After a three month spring break prompted (in part) by personal concerns, this will be the first fully electric and plugged-in concert from "The Dirty Three" since February. It's great to see the full Bone Yard experience back, and you can get a taste of what they've been working on as of late via their website, which has a new preview clip of the fourth studio track from their upcoming debut album! It's entitled "Welcome To The Shit Show", and while I'll hold comment pending our eventual review of the full album, give the 30 second teaser a listen in the bottom right corner! As teased in this jokingly ominous Facebook video, tonight's Beck's gig is at 9:00 PM with a 19+ age limit and no cover charge.

Tattoo Tearz will be on site at Beck's from 6:30 PM onward tonight, so if you want to get a tattoo before/during the concert, take advantage of this opportunity! Remember, when Beck's does host bands on Fridays, they do not host the same band on Saturdays, so if you come out tomorrow, the nightcap will be from country rock veterans Tex Riviera & The Ride. Finally for known heavier concerts in the Twin Saults this weekend, Sudbury-based Rush tribute band Epic Rush will return to town TOMORROW NIGHT when they headline at The Full Throttle Saloon! The second stab at booking a touring tribute band at the former Primavera Hall, this comes a month after Ozzy Osbourne tribute Crazy Babies played a well received (but expensive) concert there. Epic Rush previously rocked the former Soo Blaster in late 2024 and 2025, but now, the former Rust are making their way to Steelton for a summertime concert, and hopefully the Kuthy brothers deliver another fun and technically sound blast of Rush classics, especially well timed given that the real thing began their reunion tour earlier this week! Advertising for this concert does not mention an opening band. This 19+ concert goes down tomorrow night at 10:00 PM with a 19+ age limit, and tickets are $40, which is much lower than Crazy Babies attendees saw, but up from the $25 tickets that fans paid to see Rust/Epic Rush at Soo Blaster.

LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (M1, Epic Rush, Silent 9, And Curtis McKenzie!!)

Between the glut of recent major concert videos (that still isn't entirely cleaned out), regular feature posts, and personal life dealings, I'm behind on a lot of stuff around here, so let's start rectifying that tonight with an all-LOCAL CONCERT ALERT post for Sault Ontario through the fall, so with a lot more coming up ahead, here's what you should know to start!

Fresh off of hosting Ozzy Osbourne/Black Sabbath tribute band Crazy Babies there this past weekend (videos forthcoming), The Full Throttle Saloon are trying again with booking a touring tribute band, this time courtesy of Sudbury-based Rush tribute band Epic Rush on Saturday, June 13th! This is far from their first time here, as the Kuthy brothers previously brought the former Rust to Soo Blaster for shows in the fall of 2024 and 2025, but they're coming back for their third go-around sooner than locally normal, and at the former Primavera Hall this time. As fans have seen from both Epic Rush's prior local dates and their sister band Just Leppard's shows here, they deliver the goods for fans of the real thing, and why not strike while the iron is hot with the real Rush back on tour? No word on a local opening band as of this writing, but Headrush did the honours last week.

This 19+ concert will take place at 10:00 PM next month, and tickets will run for $40, which is up from what Rust/Epic Rush cost at Soo Blaster ($25) but thankfully, is much lower than the Crazy Babies show was ($70). No word on if they'll also not allowing attendees to pay at the door again, but you can buy tickets in advance at the Saloon or by calling ahead, and seating is reportedly limited. Next up, if you like hard rock tribute bands, there's another notable one returning to the Soo this summer, as Calgary-based Motorhead tribute band M1 will return to Beck's Bar for one night only on Wednesday, July 8th! This show comes precisely 52 weeks (though not quite a calendar year) removed from M1's local debut at Beck's, and while the identical mid-week timing remains just as non-ideal, it is neat to see them back at the same time of year. If you missed M1's July 2025 stop, you missed a faithful sounding and hard hitting (if not visually close) homage to Lemmy and crew, and if you're up for more in-your-face speed metal classics from the Motorhead catalogue, head to the west end in two months! No word yet on a local opener, but last year, Dodge This/ex-Phastick frontman Jason Taillefer eased into things with an acoustic set. Unlike last year's 9:00 PM start time, the Facebook event page advertises an 8:00 PM kickoff this time.

While last year's show had no cover, I have not seen any firm declaration on if that will be the case for the encore or not. Regardless, expect this one to be 19+ again. Motorhead fans won't want to miss this one, so visit the above links for more details, and stay tuned for possible updates!

Also newly announced at Beck's Bar are two acoustic concerts from former Project 421/Eclipse frontman Curtis McKenzie, who will set up shop at the former Vibe Lounge for Sunday matinee gigs on August 9th and October 4th! Unusually announced with plenty of notice, Curt first mentioned them on his Facebook page earlier today, and will mark his first stops at Beck's this year, having last played there in November. Fans of Curtis' past local band work and his more recent unplugged solo work should take to his alternative and hard rock covers later in the year, so keep both shows in mind as we proceed towards the summer! Both are 3:00 PM matinees with presumed 19+ age limits and no cover charges, and we should at least see Curt live at The Dive Gastro Pub in the interim, if not elsewhere (the summer is fast approaching, after all). Finally for today, if we're moving that far into the year for new show announcements, we might as well add local classic/hard rock cover quartet Silent 9's announced fall dates from their website's calendar onto ours! As usual for them, Silent 9 are focusing on festivals, special events, and private bookings this summer (I'm waiting for more details on their listed "grass drags" set at Runway Park next month), but their first proper local nightclub booking in four months will see them return to The Tap Room at Northern Superior Brewing Co. on Saturday, September 19th, so if you've missed this talented and fan-friendly foursome at this more intimate downtown venue, then you know where to be! The other fall date (so far) will see Jess, Ryan, Paul, and Steve return to the aforementioned Beck's Bar on Saturday, November 14th, so things are definitely being booked well in advance on Goulais Avenue!

Of course, it's way too soon to know who's playing the matinee slot that day at Beck's. The Tap Room show is at 8:00 PM, the Beck's gig is at 9:00 PM, and both are 19+ events with no cover. Good to see Silent 9 staying busy, even with a quieter/festival-focused summer again (if you'll be in/near Thessalon or White River, look out!), so see above for more details, and stay tuned for weekend concert previews next! LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Soundcheck & Curtis McKenzie) And Weekend Concert Previews!!

Before we begin this post, just a heads up that while in-person advertising at The Esquire Club had listed Bone Yard 225 as playing there this weekend, those shows are not taking place, as their current break from live concerts continues. No word on a possible replacement band at press time, and our continued thoughts are with the D'Ettore family. This weekend's hard rock concert previews begin now, with the exception of Headrush's show on Saturday, which will be in tomorrow's post due to the amount. Now, let's lead off with some SHORT NOTICE LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS!

Former Project 421/Eclipse frontman Curtis McKenzie will return to The Dive Gastro Pub for a "Think It Over Thursday" acoustic concert TONIGHT! Apologies for the short notice, both Curt and the venue only announced this show on their respective Facebook pages this afternoon. Why either couldn't announce the show on even a day's notice, I don't know, but TONIGHT'S concert sees Curtis return to "The Naughty Corner" inside the former Low & Slow, in his first gig there since late February. Should be a solid evening of hard rock covers, so don't miss out if you can swing it on a work/school night! Note that this promotional image from The Dive's Facebook page says "Thursday nights only", which reflects the venue's scheduling and not Curt, as (holidays aside) they haven't booked proper musical acts to perform on other days of the week since last year. Regardless, expect good music and great energy TONIGHT!

Next up, reunited local classic/hard rock cover quartet Soundcheck will return to Jay's Piston Broke Pub for a full weekend TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT! Again, apologies for the short notice, these shows were first announced via the venue's AI weekly schedule poster on Sunday, though as of this writing, the band has not corroborated these bookings on their own Facebook page. Last seen this past Saturday at Beck's Bar (which Soundcheck also didn't mention on their Facebook page), these will be Terry, Travis, Jim, and Johnny's first bookings at the former Roosevelt Hotel in four weeks. Good to see the guys staying busy, and look for a nice array of old school rocking covers TOMORROW & SATURDAY! Note that TOMORROW'S show coincides with $5 Friday, which references food and drink specials there on Fridays. Both shows are 19+ and at 9:30 PM with no cover charges.

Looks like a solid weekend for Soundcheck to do their thing in the west end, and perhaps with the Triumph/April Wine concert still fresh in mind (fallout forthcoming), might they have a relevant cover or two in their deep setlist? Moving to shows that had advance notice before this week, let's head an hour south for concerts in St. Ignace, Michigan, where Traverse City metal trio Scarkazm will set up shop at their Kewadin Casino TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT! While not newly promoted on the band's Facebook page, these shows have been advertised on Kewadin's entertainment page right along, and will mark Scarkazm's first E.U.P. weekend since they played at the Soo Kewadin in late March, but we haven't see that band (as opposed to their sister group Peril) at the St. Ignace branch yet this year. If you like hard rocking metal originals and covers with an old school flavour, then you won't want to miss Adam, Dave, and Jeff at the St. Ignace Kewadin this weekend, so keep these shows in mind if you're in the area! We'll close this preview post back in Sault Ontario, where reunited local classic/hard rock cover quartet Quite Frankly will make their first ever stop at Gateway Casino on SATURDAY NIGHT! This will be Quite Frankly's first show since rocking The Water Tower Pub on April 12th, a show that had a last minute lineup change, as Sidekicks/ex-Double Down bassist Dan Beaupre filled in for an absent Harley Syrette for unannounced reasons. Hopefully all's well with Harley and that he's ready to go on Saturday, but Dan's an experienced pro, so they were in good hands! Quite Frankly are on the younger end for bands who play at the casino, and it will be interesting to see how they go over, so head downtown to find out on Saturday! LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Soundcheck, Travis & Terry, And Curtis McKenzie), And The Generations Concert Preview!!

(Updated at 10:08 PM) In this final concert weekend of February 2026, we again have too many hard rock shows for one post, so Saturday's Project 906 and A.S.D.P./Apocalypse Afterparty shows will hit the site in our next news post. Here's what you should know to start off, including SHORT NOTICE LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS!

Former Haggith/Eclipse frontman Curtis McKenzie will play his second solo acoustic concert of the year TONIGHT at The Dive Gastro Pub! Apologies for the short notice, Curt only announced this "Think It Over Thursday" gig on his Facebook page on Monday, where he said that he "just got word that I will be performing", though at press time, The Dive has not corroborated this booking on social media. Curtis kicked off his 2026 solo calendar at the same venue last month, and hopefully his return to "The Naughty Corner" provides another solid evening of hard and alternative rock covers, so don't miss out TONIGHT if this is what the doctor ordered! As usual for concerts at the former Low & Slow, this is a 19+ show with no announced cover charge, and Curt mentioned a 10:00 PM start time despite generally listing 9:00 or 9:30 PM there in the past. Next up, local classic/hard rock cover quartet Soundcheck will return to The Esquire Club for concerts TOMORROW SATURDAY NIGHT! Again, apologies for the short notice, these shows were only announced via their sister band Separate Wayz' Facebook page earlier today. The reason why that band announced Soundcheck gigs is because, when this post was originally written, TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT belonged to Separate Wayz (via shows also announced on late notice earlier this week), but singer Nicole Thibodeau is under the weather. Good thing that the two bands have a 75% identical lineup, so swap her out for Travis Sharpe, and boom, Soundcheck are here to save the day! As such, these will be Soundcheck's first shows at The Esquire Club since 2024, their first there with Travis since 2019, and their third concert weekend of any kind with new drummer Johnny Amendola. Hopefully he, Travis, Terry, and Jim rock the house!

As would have been the case with Separate Wayz this weekend, TOMORROW & SATURDAY'S shows are 19+ events at 9:30 PM with no cover charge. Visit the above links for more details, here's Soundcheck live, and hopefully Nicole gets better soon! It's never fun being sick!

Also newly announced for this weekend is a show sandwiched in between Soundcheck's Esquire Club gigs, as singer/guitarists Terry Eaton and Travis Sharpe will play an acoustic matinee concert together at Misty's Fifties on SATURDAY! Apologies again for the short notice, this show was only announced via the venue's Facebook page on Monday, and Sound Track Soundcheck have not confirmed the booking either, though it is only half of the band. Yes, Trav(is) & Terry are replacing Tym Morrison, who was originally slated to play at Misty's on SATURDAY before he broke his pinky finger (he is scheduled to return to live concerts late next month). While the idea of Soundcheck's original/current guitarists playing an unplugged show is relatively new for our coverage, you may recall seeing Terry back up his old bandmate Cameron Oliver in acoustic country concerts last year.

With Travis back, it's safe to assume that this acoustic gig with Terry will be similar in tone to Soundcheck's hard and classic rock-leaning full band shows, and it'll be a second straight busy SATURDAY for them, after Soundcheck played two concerts in one day last week, so keep this one in mind if you want some unplugged mid-day rock! As usual for Misty's Fifties on Second Line West, this is a 4:00 PM gig with a 19+ age limit and no cover, before the guys head down the road to join Soundcheck that night. We'll close this preview post with a show that did have advance notice before Monday, as local classic/hard rock cover quartet Generations are scheduled to return to The Full Throttle Saloon for one night only on SATURDAY NIGHT! Just to clarify, the band erroneously announced this show as taking place tomorrow night when first mentioned on their Facebook group on January 11th (source here), but the former Primavera Hall typically doesn't book bands on Fridays, and the venue has since corrected the date in recent promotion. Two weeks removed from their Valentine's Day show at the Full Throttle Saloon, this should be another prime opportunity for fans to see Generations rock out in Steelton, so keep this Saturday nighter in mind for your weekend plans! Uploaded to new guitarist Joe Miller's personal Facebook page and shared to the band's Facebook group (yes, I can embed these ones), these come from their Water Tower Pub show last week, and include covers of The Tragically Hip's "Blow At High Dough" (with bassist Pierre Anthony on vocals), and as embedded below, Loverboy's "Working For The Weekend" with Valerie Powley singing. While neither is the full song, both are horizontal (thank goodness!) and capture the band in good form from two different camera angles, so if you like their brand of old school rock covers, these should be up your alley!
