SHORT NOTICE LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Turner Up) And Weekend Concert Previews!

Well guys, the weekend is near, so it's time to preview this weekend's slate of local metal and hard rock concerts! I know of seven to tell you guys about, including two in Sault Michigan, so there's a bunch of bands to see this weekend if you're out concert hopping! We'll begin with a SHORT NOTICE LOCAL CONCERT ALERT for TOMORROW and Saturday night!

I apologize for the short notice of these shows, these were only announced Wednesday afternoon. TOMORROW and Saturday night, local classic hard rockers Turner Up return to the stage for a weekend set at The Canadian Nightclub! Both shows start at 10:30 PM, there's no announced cover charge (expect to pay something though, knowing most shows there), and you must be 19 to enter. For full details, visit the official Facebook event page, especially given that Turner Up haven't updated their concert schedule (or any element of their Facebook group, for that matter) since Brent Royer was still fronting the band. Even still, they'll deliver two good nights of classic hard rock covers to their loyal fans this weekend! They have good chemistry, and new frontwoman Krista Marshall has gotten good reviews, so make note going into this weekend! And if you desire advance warning, they'll be at The Vibe Lounge next weekend as well! Check the above links for more details, and if anyone comes across audio or video of Turner Up's current lineup in action, let me know!

Now, to the shows we knew about in advance for this weekend's previews, and we'll begin with a very heavy concert taking place TONIGHT featuring three rising young local bands! It's the second monthly Metal Night at The Roosevelt Hotel, and after the first night's success, two of the local openers return to rock The Rosie tomorrow! Your headliners are local hardcore band As It Stands, who will surely deliver a brutal set of metalcore to mosh to, including their seemingly heavier and heavier originals! Also featured are local death metal quintet Bring The Fallen, in their first live concert appearance since last month's Total Chaos show! Expect a devastating set from these guys, who'll surely impress at a second straight metal night! And if you're still bummed about their exit from the Soo Music Mash-Up show, make a point to see them tomorrow instead! Opening tonight's show is new local metal quartet State of Misery, in their first ever live concert! Originally scheduled to debut at last night's jam night at Foggy Notions, State of Misery look to slay the masses in their debut tonight! How will they sound? What are we in store for? Time will tell!

There is NO announced cover for thiss concert, doors open at 9:00 PM, and you must be 19 to enter. For full details, visit the above links and the official Facebook event page! This is shaping up to be a great night of local metal, so make it out to The Rosie if you can! For a preview, here's As It Stands playing the song "Eeny Meeny Miny Ho" from their return show at Foggy Notions in August!

Quick detour to Sault Michigan now, as a local hard rock quintet return to the stage for the first time since the first weekend of November! That band is River Witch, the band who evolved from Blind Baby earlier this summer. Though not confirmed on their Facebook page (which isn't frequently updated by any stretch of the imagination), the dates are confirmed on Kewadin Casino's entertainment page, which is accurate for scheduled concerts. That being said, they'll be back at The Rapids Lounge at Kewadin tomorrow night and Saturday night for some classic and modern rock tunes that will hopefully get fans going! The concerts should have start times of around 9:00 PM, there is NO COVER, and you must be 21 to enter. Despite their active status, I haven't been able to track down audio or video for River Witch yet, so who knows how they'll sound this weekend, but considering the past bands members have been in, and the Blind Baby demos on their old Reverbnation page, there must be something there! Check the above links for more details on River Witch and these two shows, and if you check them out this weekend, let us know how they were!

Back in Sault Ontario for our final two hard rock concerts this weekend, and we'll start at The Roosevelt Hotel once again, where local classic hard rock cover quintet That's Chester will make their first appearance EVER on Saturday night! This is just a one-off performance, but it's their first ever concert at The Rosie, so you know this'll be a good one! There is NO COVER, the show starts at 10:00 PM, and there is a 19+ age limit. For full details, visit the official Facebook event page! Expect a great set from these talented local veterans of the Sault music scene, who will have lots of great hard rock covers in store on Saturday night! If you miss them this weekend, they'll surely be back before you know it, but head on out! How often do you get to see a band's debut at a local venue anyway? Check the above links for more details, and for a video preview, here's That's Chester (with then-singer Ritch Fullerton) covering Queen's "Tie Your Mother Down"!

And finally, we cap the concert weekend on Sunday with Tym Morrison's solo project, as he once again returns to Foggy Notions on Sunday night for the next show in his weekly arrangement there! While we wait for a public Caveman Morrison update (including their newest lineup changes), why not relax with some solo acoustic metal and hard rock from Tym this Sunday? If you miss him, he'll be back at Foggy's next Sunday, but even still! As usual, Tym will be on at 10:00 PM on Sunday night, there is NO COVER CHARGE, and as is normal for Foggy Notions, you must be 19 to enter. For full details, visit the official Facebook event page! Tym's "every Sunday" arrangement seems to be working well for him, and who doesn't like to chill out with some more laid back acoustic stuff once in a while? Check him out on Sunday if you can, and for more on his show this weekend (and for solo originals), head to the above links!

That's all for now, and before I forget, I'm gonna reveal something: Tomorrow is our final CD review of 2010, and because I don't believe I'll have any new local albums by then, I'd like to officially announce that our next CD review will be of Lower S.E.S.' self-titled 1996 EP! Yes, the Sault Michigan groove metal band's only album will get a review on the SMS TOMORROW, so stay tuned for that, and of course, I'll have much more news in the coming days! Thanks everyone!
