Another New Local Band, Even More Updates, And A Kiss In The Soo Live CD?

Hey guys, I'm back with some assorted news and updates! And we'll kick things off with another local band I discovered to add to the SMS listings! Plus, I have more assorted news updates, a potentially exciting Kiss update relating to their concert here, and some random updates concerning SMS logos and the YouTube channel! So let's get going!

In my searching for new local stuff in the past, I've frequently came across the MySpace page for local guitarist Brian Lester (Garage, Inc., After-Shock), which he had listed under the "band name" "No Shadows Cast". I continually bypassed it as a "band" because the page only implied that Brian was using the page to find a new full time group. But the other day, I came across evidence to the contrary! Brian, under the No Shadows Cast moniker, had indeed made this a full solo project, complete with a website on Angelfire! It was last updated in December 2005, but his page was well done! Nice layout and graphics, though nowhere close to being complete, many pages were still "under construction".

Brian was planning to release a No Shadows Cast EP in 2006 under the name "In Times of Truth", and posted two demos for the album on his site, for the songs "Dedication" and "Story of Two", complete with lyrics. Remarkably, 4 years later, the songs still work! "Story of Two" is a high energy instrumental (vocals hadn't been added yet), while "Dedications" is slower paced and more introspective, and features vocals. Both are good songs, check them out at this location! His MySpace page also has some extra songs, which sound good too, particularly "Epic"! I wonder why Brian hasn't kept up No Shadows Cast, it had some definite promise, and he's a good guitarist! No Shadows Cast are now in the Local Metal Band Links on the right of the page, and my apologies for bypassing them until now!

Next up, here's a potentially very exciting news item relating to the upcoming Kiss concert on December 15th at The Essar Center! The band are apparently going to professionally record EVERY SHOW of this leg of their Alive 35 tour, and after each show, you can buy your city's concert on a 2 CD set or as a USB wristband (both pictured.) This promotion is being done through Concert Online, where you can buy either the CD or USB for $35, or both for $55! Now, the Sault Ste. Marie show is not listed as an option yet (neither are the other newest shows though), but if Kiss sticks to their word that every show will be recorded, that means there will be an official "Kiss Alive 35: Live In Sault Ste. Marie" album that we can buy! Get full details at this location, and if I hear more word about our potential Kiss live CD, I'll be sure to let you guys know! If they do record our show, I WILL buy the CD and review it on the SMS next year!

Now for a trio of quick news updates:
  • Sault Ontario natives Lion Ride have scheduled a new out of town show! They will be in Barrie on October 30th at The Foxx Lounge for a special Devil's Night concert! Should be good, but I'm personally hoping for a local show in the near future!
  • Detroit (the hardcore band featuring 3/5ths of Lion Ride) will be joined by Barrie punk band The Adult Film Industry for their show on Tuesday night at The Bovine Sex Club in Toronto! Should also be a good concert, I can't wait to catch them live in the Sault area!
  • SooNews.ca has posted an article about the upcoming Sault-area concerts featuring Three Days Grace. Coincidentally, The Sault Star has an article up about the upcoming Ace Frehley show. Click on both acts' names to read the articles!
And finally, some SMS updates to share with you all! First, I've decided to do some "customizing" to the SMS for special events (namely major concerts and local metal CD releases.) For the week leading up to major metal shows at The Essar Center, The Dreammaker's Theater, or Runway Park, I will replace the SMS logo and banner image with a customized one that represents the band playing here. And for the week following a local metal CD release, I'll have banner images and logos representing that new album! I had done this a bit with the old logo on the old Facebook group, but it never caught on and it was too hard to pull off. This time, it's much easier and should work much better! As a teaser, here's the logo I'll use for the Papa Roach concert and the banner for Sykotyk Rampage's upcoming album. I have plenty more in the works, so keep your eyes open!

And as well, I'm in the process of uploading another Gates of Winter concert to YouTube to share with you guys! This is from their headlining performance at Rotaryfest 2006, as filmed by Justin Colautti. Like the acoustic show, this was originally posted on Google Video in 2007, which you can view the whole original video of at this location. But, as this show is on a dead video hosting service and not getting the views I think it deserves, I've split it up and am posting it on YouTube to help this great show be seen by more fans. NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT IS INTENDED!!!!!!!

You can view all the videos on The Sault Metal Scene's official YouTube channel, which includes live performances of all the songs from "Lux Aeterna" (except "The Wildwood Pariah"), their unreleased demo "Torment", and for their encore, a cover of the Children of Bodom song "Needled 24/7", which you can check out immediately below!

That's all for today, have a good weekend! More news to come!
