Here's a new news post for your Monday evening, and while it ends with new videos from a talented local musician, we're mostly looking at LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS at a prominent venue! Here's what you should know!
As usual for Shooters' weekend live music slate, both of Bone Yard's upcoming shows have 8:00 PM start times, no announced cover charges, and 19+ age limits. Visit the official Facebook event pages linked here & here for more details, and stay tuned for more from Bone Yard!
Next up, local classic/hard rock cover quartet Soundcheck will return to Shooters for one night only on Friday, September 9th! There is no current event page for a band on Saturday the 10th (the one for Soundcheck's show on the 9th only lists that day), we'll let you know if a heavier act is confirmed for the 10th. Fresh off their band-unannounced shows at Reggie's Place and at Algoma Tree Services this past weekend (apologies again for missing those), this too will be Soundcheck's first stop at Shooters in over a month, barring any late notice or unannounced shows that may come up in the interim. Hopefully Soundcheck's varied but often heavy blend of classic and hard rock covers finds another strong downtown audience next month! Again, this is a 19+ show with no cover and an 8:00 PM start time. Visit the above links for more details, and we'll try and keep tabs on Soundcheck's live dates beforehand!
As for Saturday, September 17th, that night will see southern hard rock quintet Fort Creek make their own Shooters return for a one-nighter! Unless they too announce something beforehand, this will be Fort Creek's first local concert since rocking the Dennis Street venue earlier this month (also a Saturday nighter), though like on August 6th, I can't immediately confirm if there will be a merchandise giveaway or not. Fort Creek's brand of hard rocking covers (old school and modern alike) with select originals should be just what the doctor ordered for fans who haven't seen Justin, Shane, Matt, Robin, and Tony as of late, so consider a Shooters trip in a little over a month to see them in action! Once again, this 19+ concert has no announced cover charge and an 8:00 PM start time. Visit the official Facebook event page for more details, and we'll have more from Fort Creek on the site as it comes in!
Let's close today with some new videos from local extreme metal/folk punk musician Chase Wigmore's Facebook page, as he's posted three new ones in the past nine days that we've yet to talk about! The first video from August 6th has "something I've been working on", specifically 108 seconds of acoustic finger guitar that Molten Imp likened to Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante. I can hear it, which is good, as the grainy video quality leaves a lot to be desired, but come for the performance as audio! Yesterday's video has Chase playing an electric guitar that he recently got back in working order. No word on if the song he's playing will lead anywhere in studio, but it's a solid instrumental that has more of a soaring mid-tempo essence without getting too metal. Nice change of pace! No comment on the inverted colour filter though. I've chosen the August 9th video to embed here, as it has a preview of a new album of his!In the video, Chase is playing an instrumental track named "All We Really Have", which will reportedly be on a new album Chase is tentatively calling "Is This The End Of...?", which will allegedly focus just on stripped down guitar without overdubs or layering. Chase teased uploading new videos every Tuesday and Thursday for further previews, but that schedule hasn't held so far. Regardless, the lack of a visual filter is nice for clarity's sake! I won't comment on the song pending a possible review of this album, but if you like Chase's music more stripped down, don't bypass this video, and stay tuned for more from him soon!
That's all for today, but stay tuned for more news and notes on the site this week! Thanks everyone!
