Today's post was going to be very different, but a bunch of LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS fell into my lap today, conveniently all from the same venue, so here's what you should know on all of the hard rock ones!
Shooters Downstairs Lounge on Dennis Street have unveiled their concert schedule for the next three weeks, and a fair amount of hard rock-leaning acts have newly announced gigs ahead, so let's look at those in rough chronological order! We'll start with a debuting act for this venue, as local funk/hard rock cover quintet The Wyld Stallyns will hit up Shooters for one night only on Friday, September 30th! With how frequently Christina, Rob, Jesse, Alex, and Derek (give or take anyone) have been seen around town this summer, it is definitely surprising that they have yet to make their way to Shooters, which is not far at all from The Whisky Barrel, and hopefully next Friday's show goes over well! A one-nighter due to or resulting in another first-time gig there from Mid Life Crysis on October 1st, you can enjoy The Stallyns' often hard rocking covers at 8:00 PM next Friday with no cover charge and a 19+ age limit, as usual here.
Good to see that The Wyld Stallyns are still spreading their wings and playing at a new-to-them venue, especially with advance notice that I was able to catch, so don't miss out next weekend, and visit the official Facebook event page for more details!
Next up, local acoustic classic/hard rock musician Tym Morrison will return to Shooters for three Sunday matinee concerts next month! At least these shows have advance notice. Announced together in the same Facebook event page, Tym will alternate Sundays at the Dennis Street nightclub in October, playing on the 2nd, 16th, and 30th while ceding the Sunday matinee timeslot on the 9th and 23rd to other artists (country musician Leslie Cook is definitely playing on the 9th, source here, not sure about the 23rd yet). No word on if the show on Sunday the 30th will be Halloween themed at all, keep tabs on Shooters accounts for details on that front. All three of Tym's upcoming Shooters matinee gigs have 3:00 PM start times, no cover charges, and 19+ age limits. Should be a solid time thrice over for fans of Tym's skilled unplugged covers, so see the above links for more on his Shooters slate!
Also up at Shooters next month are local classic/hard rock cover quartet Soundcheck, who will be rocking out there for one night only on Friday, October 7th! This will be Terry, Cameron, Paul (or Rob), and Glen's first show at this venue in just under a month, and will absolutely prove drier than their recent private gig! Soundcheck (one word) will be seen elsewhere in the interim, including at The Esquire Club this weekend, their Cameron-less open mic night hosting duties at Reggie's West, and anything else that could be announced ahead, but if you're up for some live downtown music from this hard rocking & established veteran quartet, you know the date! This one-nighter has a 19+ age limit, no cover charge, and an 8:00 PM start time. Visit the official Facebook event page for more details, and look for our previews of this weekend's Esquire Club shows in a few days!
Finally, you may be wondering who's playing at Shooters on Saturday, October 8th if Soundcheck aren't. Well, local southern hard rock trio Bone Yard are! Fresh off of a one nighter on the 13th at the same venue, Bone Yard are still primarily in private booking mode, so I have no clue if they'll have a late notice public gig anywhere before the 8th. Greg, Alex, and Warren's rough-and-tumble but very proficient brand of classic-leaning southern & hard rock covers have proven to be a solid draw on Dennis Street, and here's hoping their return to Shooters next month is another hit! Like the other upcoming shows above (Tym Morrison's Sunday matinees aside), expect Bone Yard to have an 8:00 PM start time, no cover charge, and a 19+ age limit on October 8th. Visit the official Facebook event page for more details, and stay tuned for more from Bone Yard when we hear of it!
That's all for today, but definitely give Shooters' Facebook page a look for all of their newly announced gigs through early October, genre irregardless, and stay tuned for more news on the site this week! Thanks everyone!
