Local classic/hard rock cover trio Stiffler's Mom will return to The Esquire Club for concerts TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT! Apologies for the short notice, the band only announced the shows on their Facebook page yesterday. Though we've seen Greg, Mike, and Jon often at The Rockstar Bar in recent months, these will be their first shows at the Second Line West bar/venue since late January, so if you've missed Stiffler's Mom's entertaining hard rock covers in the west end, you know where to be TOMORROW and/or SATURDAY! Note that Stiffler's Mom's plug of this weekend's Esquire booking doesn't specify if they're playing both Friday & Saturday or just one night, but nothing that they posted directly implies it's a one nighter, so expect two shows unless otherwise clarified. There's a 10:00 PM start time likely for this weekend, you must be 19 or older to attend, and there's no announced cover charge. For more details, see the above links, and here's Stiffler's Mom live!
Moving to previously announced concerts, local acoustic hard rock singer/guitarist Tym Morrison will return to Gliss Steak & Seafood for two more solo matinee shows TOMORROW & SATURDAY! As Tym's successful long-term weekly run at The Quality Inn's house restaurant continues deeper into the summer, his talented unplugged covers should continue to entertain fans downtown this weekend, so if you're up for some hard rock hits in a more intimate setting, head to Gliss either tomorrow or Saturday! These matinees are at 6:00 PM, as usual, and again, this is a sit-down restaurant, so keep that in mind alongside the no cover or age limits. For more details, visit the official Facebook event page, and for a preview, here's Tym Morrison live!
In a brief detour to Sault Michigan, fans can see Kinross classic/hard rock trio Banned as they return to The Rapids Lounge at the Sault's Kewadin Casino TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT! Following a pair of Manistique concerts, this will be Alex, Wayne, and Don's first concert weekend in our concert range since playing Kinross last month, and in the Soo in about three months, so if you've missed their hard rocking covers and select originals, be at The Rapids Lounge for their first regional shows of the summer! Note that Banned haven't plugged these shows on their Facebook page recently, but their cover photo there confirms the dates, including planned Rapids Lounge returns monthly through the summer. These shows are 21+ affairs with no cover, and both will take place at 9:00 PM. See above for more details, and here's Banned live!
Finally for today, local post-punk/garage rock quartet Gnaeus will return to LopLops Lounge THIS SATURDAY NIGHT when they take part in the return of Whitehorse, Yukon folk project Old Cabin to the Soo! Gnaeus will be playing for the first time in a couple of months, as they continue preparations for the release of their debut CD "Meditations", and their energetic, genre blending originals should find a solid audience this weekend! According to bassist Matt Fronzi in a personal conversation, Gnaeus will be closing the night on Saturday (he couldn't confirm why, but it's possible that Old Cabin have to leave early), and they'll also have a new cover to debut, so keep watch for that! Old Cabin's well composed folk rock originals have proven to be a fan favourite in the past, and with Saultite Jona Barr in tow, give him a nice welcome home on Saturday! Opening this show is local/Ottawa indie rock project Great Chamberlain, who are talented in their genre as well, so don't miss Chris & company either at LopLops!
Note that an advertised opening set by Sudbury power pop band The Dirty Princes has quietly been removed from the Facebook event page for unannounced reasons, but for what it's worth, that band never plugged the show on Facebook themselves. Hopefully nothing bad happened! Promoted by Ears & Eyes Online's Jackson Reed (Jona Barr's brother), this 19+ show has doors opening at 8:00 PM and a $10 cover charge. This should be a solid concert for folk and alternative rock fans, with Gnaeus adding a punk edge too, so see above for more info, stay tuned for more on Gnaeus' next show soon, and here they are live!
That's all for today, but stay tned for our Foam preview and more next! Thanks everyone!
