LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (The Blitz, Nolium, Rock N' Roll Ave, And Project 906!!)

Before we dive into weekend concert previews on both sides of the border, let's take a trip to Sault Michigan and the E.U.P. for this all-American SMS post, which solely features LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS for the coming weeks! Here's what you should know on this Wednesday night!

Local hard/blues rock cover quintet Project 906 will apparently return to Huck's Pub & Grill in Rudyard for one night only on Friday, July 24th! The show was announced via this concert calendar image on Huck's Facebook page, which calls them "906 Band", but who else could they be referring to? Fans last saw Project 906 at Huck's on Halloween last year, and their show in two weeks will actually coincide with another special occasion, as that will be during Summerfest weekend in Rudyard (click here for this year's program), but events at the former Joe's Bar are not official Summerfest events, just well timed. As such, things should be busier that night, so hopefully Project 906 have a strong night of live hard rock action! Note that singer Billy Bernier will actually be playing a solo gig at Huck's tomorrow (source here) as this week's Bike Night entertainment, but I don't know if his solo shows are basically 906 unplugged or take new paths.

This concert is a one-nighter due to or resulting in a show on Saturday the 25th from a mystery band named Private Drive, and we'll let you know if we hear anything about them. "906 Band" take the stage for this 21+ concert at 8:00 PM with no cover charge, and there will be an outdoor cash bar on site. Before we get too far, Project 906 played their second show of this year's #summerof906 in Curtis (90 minutes west of here) on Wednesday, July 1st at the Erickson Center For The Arts as part of their own Music In The Park series. Curtis is outside of our hour's drive coverage area, but I hope the outdoor show went well! Visit the above links for more from Project 906!

Next up, Kewadin Casino has updated their entertainment page for bands playing at the Soo and St. Ignace branches through the end of August, and there's some newer touring faces to look out for, starting with the local debuts of Petoskey-area classic/hard rock cover quartet The Blitz at The Rapids Lounge in Sault Ste. Marie on Friday, July 31st and Saturday, August 1st! The Blitz have been rocking Northern Michigan and the tip of the mitt since at least the late 2010s, and they reunited in 2022, but as far as I am aware, their shows in three weeks will be their first in the E.U.P.. Videos on their Facebook page show The Blitz covering the likes of Def Leppard, Better Than Ezra, and Royal Republic, and were recently tapped to open for a cancelled Firehouse concert in Wolverine, so they definitely have a good array of hard rock-leaning covers, and it will be interesting to see how they go over in the Soo!

As usual for concerts at Kewadin Casino's on-site lounges, their shows on the 31st and August 1st are 9:00 PM affairs with 21+ age limits and no cover charges. Hopefully The Blitz deliver a solid weekend of rocking covers for fans in a few weeks, so visit the above links for more details!

Also new at The Rapids Lounge next month is the local debut of Mount Pleasant classic/hard rock cover quintet Rock N' Roll Ave (as in "avenue"), who will rock the Soo Kewadin on Friday, August 7th and Saturday, August 8th! A recently reunited cover band featuring Brock Williams from the defunct Central Michigan metalcore band Black Out, the Sault Ste. Marie dates will actually be Rock N' Roll Ave's first anywhere after their return, which is unusual when you consider that Mount Pleasant is 3 hours south of here, but they are a talented band with a good ear for hard rock! In their three jam session videos from this summer on their Facebook page (all shot vertically, alas), you can see them covering Poison, Stone Temple Pilots, and John Mellencamp songs, though tread lightly when backtracking there, as Black Out videos are also posted on their page, and R.N.R.A. aren't that heavy by comparison!

They should get a good reception from Yooper fans at the Soo Kewadin next month, so welcome Rock N' Roll Ave here in style then! Like with The Blitz the previous week, these are 21+ shows with no cover charges and 21+ age limits. See above for more details on their local debut weekend!

Finally for today, The Northern Pines Lounge at the St. Ignace Kewadin Casino isn't lacking for new touring rock bands either, as Ontonogan hard rock quartet Nolium will make their own EUP debut at that branch on Friday, August 7th and Saturday, August 8th! Their Facebook calendar says that the shows are in the Soo, but Kewadin's entertainment page confirms that Nolium are in St. Ignace with Rock N' Roll Ave playing an hour north that same weekend. Nolium may actually be the heaviest of the three touring bands in this post (the likes of Tool, System Of A Down, and Silverchair are covered in their set), and they actually have their own original music that fans of modern hard rock and grunge will take to, and it will be neat to see them make the 4½ hour drive east next month! If you really want a big sampling of Nolium live, here's an 80 minutes long concert of theirs from 2021.

As above, these are free concerts with 9:00 PM start times and 21+ age limits, just at the St. Ignace Kewadin. It's not every day when we get bands from that far west in the Upper Peninsula coming here (Nolium play a lot of Wisconsin dates as such), so give them a warm welcome in Mackinac County next month if this interests you! LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Headrush & A.S.D.P.), Unfortunate Sun Updates, And More!!

Before we begin today's news post, I wanted to profusely apologize for a missed concert last month, as Sault Michigan hard rock quartet Unfortunate Sun returned to Huck's Pub & Grill in Rudyard on January 17th. This was a 4:00 PM matinee concert for unannounced reasons (Unfortunate Sun's prior gig there in November was a normal nighttime booking), and while the band only promoted this Saturday nighter once on their Facebook page on the previous Monday, Huck's Facebook page had promoted it multiple times in the early weeks of last month. How this slipped me by, I don't know, but I hope the show was a hit for all involved despite the early start time, and we won't miss Unfortunate Sun's next shows (stay tuned on Thursday for our next weekend concert previews!) There was something newsworthy beyond last month's show being their first of 2026, as it was their final gig with ex-Shift bassist Tony Rogers, who "has decided to move on".

The band did not outline why Tony left otherwise, but things are definitely amicable, and they thanked him for "making playing music fun again and saving our band". Replacing Tony is his former Clownsack colleague Brett Blackwood, who was most recently seen in the 2023-2025 hard rock cover band Dirty Musky, and was among the past bassists in Unfortunate Sun's predecessor group Fake Chow. Brett's a talented artist and it will be good to see him back with familiar company, and we'll preview his debut gigs with Unfortunate Sun on the SMS in a couple of days!

Today's post otherwise has some LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS and new videos from Sault Ontario, and we'll start with the "Not A Leap Year Party" on Saturday, February 28th! Now, this is a house party event on Bruce Steet that is not being held at a proper public venue, but this show is publically advertised, it will be 19+, and it has entry via a suggested donation of $10. The host location will even have balloons outside so you know where to go, so this isn't intended to be private or invite-only! More specifics can be seen via the poster, but they're calling the location "Mellow D's Basement" (yes, this is related to the former pop-up venue Mellow D's Underground). Six acts are scheduled at month's end, including three bands (new local ska punk trio A.S.D.P., party metal trio The Apocalypse Afterparty, and online page-less space rock duo The Spaceship Opening. Three solo acts will round out the night's festivities.

They are Sylo frontman Eli Russell, folk singer/guitarist Gimiiwan Ikwe, and former Vanity First frontman Andrew Beggs (a.k.a. Andrew Keith).  This show is being put on by A.S.D.P. frontman/Apocalypse Afterparty bassist Mikhal Muto's new agency Underground Events SSM, and doors will open at 5:00 PM. Intriguing event on multiple fronts, so visit the above links for more on this rare 100% public house party concert later this month!

Next up, here's one more new show announcement ahead, as local classic/hard rock cover quintet Headrush will return to The Full Throttle Saloon for one night only on Saturday, March 28th! Announced with lots of advance notice on Sunday, this follows the band's successful return to the former Primavera Hall two weeks ago, and you know things are going well for Headrush there when they're getting a publicized booking over a month away like this! Time will tell if we see the guys somewhere else before then, but if you've liked the 1980s-leaning range of well performed rock covers from this veteran group, you know when to see them in Steelton next! This will be a 9:00 PM concert with a 19+ age limit and no announced cover charge. Normally, I'd wait to share this until we had an imminent show of theirs to preview, but the focus is more on attendees rocking out than the band proper until the last third. Shared to Headrush's Facebook group by attendee Stacey Cleave, the 96 seconds-long and (sadly) vertical video was shot during their cover of Boston's "Foreplay/Long Time", with some female fans happily singing along. Not a bad rendition from what we hear, and Stacey got some good angles of the interior of the saloon with a strong and fun crowd enjoying the music, so give it a watch below!

Finally for today, this leads from our review last week of defunct local grunge/alt-rock trio No Arrow's long-awaited album "Souls For Sale", as frontman Dann Pichette has uploaded a few more songs to his YouTube channel in the past year that are credited to the band! Along with a free streaming copy of all 12 songs from the CD, Dann uploaded an extended 6+ minutes-long version of "Colderside Of The Sun", a cover of Bruce Springsteen's "I'm On Fire" from 2009 that Dann self-recorded, and two non-album originals named "Question Marked" and "Obliterator". The former was remotely recorded by Dann, former bassist Brad Griffith, and a drummer (likely not Joe Falco) credited as "GliTcH!?" circa 2014, and Dann remastered it for a re-upload on his channel last year. I have no idea how recent "Obliterator" is, but it's a slower and sludgier track compared to the more typically grungy "Question Marked".

 Of course, Dann has gotten involved in those "DIY independent musician showcase/networking" channels and communities in recent years from hosts like Thomas Christ and Frank Terzo, so his music (No Arrow or otherwise) has been getting a lot of diverse and far-flung attention as of late, perhaps spurring along the idea of posting these songs online, let alone finally releasing "Souls For Sale". No Arrow are defunct, but it's cool to see Dann bringing them back and giving them a new belated platform, and hopefully we hear more new/old music from him soon! Check out "Obliterator" below!

LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (HeadF1rst & The Nameless) And New Year's Eve Concert Previews!!

In what will likely be our last normal post of 2025 (our annual "year-in-review" post is likely coming tomorrow), here's previews of tomorrow's known hard rock New Year's Eve concerts, including LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS, one on SHORT NOTICE! Just a reminder first though that Tym Morrison's planned Eagles Club show tomorrow was cancelled. Also, you may have seen reference on social media to a New Year's bash featuring The Apocalypse Afterparty, A.D.S.P., The Spaceship Opening, and Gimiiwan Ikwe, but that is a private event without a publically given address. Inquire with performers if that piques your interest though! Now, let's lead off with our New Year's Eve previews in Michigan!

Local hard rock cover quartet The Nameless will end 2025 in style by making their debut at The Back Bay Grill & Games at Bay Mills Resort & Casino in Brimley TOMORROW NIGHT for their New Year's Eve party! Apologies for the short notice, the band only announced this gig via their Facebook page yesterday, and Bay Mills never acknowledged a New Year's concert on their website's calendar, though head there to see what other seasonal activities are happening there. Last seen on stage at The Merch on December 12th, TOMORROW's concert will be quite a way for Josh, the Mikes, and Jamie to make their first ever Brimley stop, and while no festive frills are hyped on the band's end, hopefully this will be the heaviest way for E.U.P. rock fans to ring in 2026 with! Owing to the New Year's timing, this show has an unusually late start time of 10:00 PM, a 21+ age limit, and no cover charge. See above for more details, and here's The Nameless live!

Next up, let's take a brief detour from New Year's concerts for a new show announcement for 2026, as Sault Ontario hard rock quintet HeadF1rst will play their... first show of the year at Beck's Bar on Saturday, January 10th! If this show is a surprise to you, I'm not surprised, as it was quietly tucked in their most recent Facebook page posting from this past Saturday, which was primarily to show off photos of them at the same venue back in June. You have to click "See more" to see the show announcement, and while they never did come back for "round 2" in this calendar year, the guys (and Claire) will return next weekend! This will be their first concert anywhere since rocking Shooters on December 6th. HeadF1rst's hard rocking brand of originals and covers will be on display next Saturday at 9:00 PM with a 19+ age limit and no cover charge. Visit the above links for more details, and Beck's should confirm things on their end on Monday!

Now let's head back to New Year's Eve concert previews, and while the mid-week timing of December 31st this year has stunted some concert booking potential, Thursday is a day off, and there are a couple more hard rock concerts in Sault Ontario to take in TOMORROW. Arguably the bigger of the two goes down in the east end, where local southern hard rock trio Bone Yard 225 will end the year in style by headlining the New Year's party at The Moose Lodge tomorrow night! A very rare SMS-amenable booking at the Trunk Road hall, this will be Bone Yard's first show in almost two weeks, and they should be in fine form to send 2025 out on a high note! Along with music from "the dirty three", there will be a pasta dinner and cash bar included, along with other seasonal frills, so mind all that given that tickets cost $50 at The Moose Lodge or via e-mail at lodge535@shaw.ca.

The band's own cache of tickets is sold out, and of course, you can chance paying at the door if this all interests you. If you'd rather see your local 225 with no cover, they'll be back next month with multiple bar gigs that we will be elaborating on here shortly. Doors open at 6:00 PM with the pasta dinner beginning at 7:00 PM, and Bone Yard take the stage at 9:00 PM. Finally for TOMORROW NIGHT (and 2025), local hard rock cover quartet Half Past will end the year when they headline the New Year's Eve party at the aforementioned Beck's Bar! Playing their first concert since rocking the same venue in early October, this will cap off what was an eventful first full year back for Half Past after their decade+ breakup, and hopefully their brand of modern-leaning "hard rock (that) you'll actually feel" proves to be the right soundtrack for many to ring in 2026 with! In terms of seasonal frills, Beck's is promising drink specials tomorrow, and while I'm not one to go into massive details on the food offerings and menus at bars here, this is the first Beck's concert that we have covered since they struck a deal for the Matt’s Grill BBQ & Catering food truck to park on the premises daily from 5:00 PM-1:00 AM. Keep that in mind if getting a meal or some unofficial hors d'oeuvres for the New Year is of note! Here is the menu if you are curious. 

Unlike at The Moose Lodge, the New Year's Eve party at Beck's has no cover charge or tickets, but this remains a 19+ event with the band beginning at 9:00 PM, and note that the former Vibe Lounge will remain open until 3:00 AM, one hour later than normal. Hopefully there's a strong turnout at Beck's for their first New Year's bash, let alone Half Past's modern hard rock proficiency, so visit the official Facebook event page for more details, and for a preview, here's Half Past live at Beck's!

LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (The Guilty Party) & Most Of This Weekend's Hard Rock Concert Previews!!

Another weekend is upon us, arguably the start of the Christmas season for many given Moonlight Magic tonight and the Santa Claus Parade on Saturday, so here's our look at most of the hard rock shows taking place in the Sault Ste. Marie area this weekend! Sunday's Tym Morrison matinee at Beck's will be previewed in our next news post. Let's lead things off with SHORT NOTICE LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS in the west end!

New local classic/hard rock cover trio The Guilty Party will set up shop TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT at Jay's Piston Broke Pub! Apologies for the short notice, the band only announced these shows via their Facebook event page on Friday. Since debuting as a live band in September, the Separate Wayz side project have one weekend a month at Jay's in the latter half of each month, so TOMORROW & SATURDAY's show establishes a pattern that time will tell if we see continued in the last two weeks of the year. In any event, these are The Guilty Party's first shows since their pre-Halloween weekend gigs in October (also at the former Reggie's West), and hopefully there's a strong turnout for Brent, Terry, and Jim's selection of rocking covers! Everything goes down TOMORROW & SATURDAY at 9:30 PM with 19+ age limits and no cover charges. Visit the above links for more details!

For a preview, here's a new video of them live, as shared to their Facebook page on November 5th! This was shot by attendee Audrey Marshall, and captures The Guilty Party covering Seether's "Rise Above This", The Stone Temple Pilots' "Interstate Love Song" and Collective Soul's "Gel". Singer/drummer Brent Royer handles lead vocals on all except "Rise Above This", which guitarist Terry Eaton sings lead on. Whether you're familiar with members' prior bands or not, these are soundly performed covers with good enthusiasm, and Audrey captures some good angles (and shot this horizontally!), so check them out below in advance of The Guilty Party's Jay's return TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT!

Next up, we'll head to The Water Tower Pub, where local classic/hard rock cover quartet Double Down will set up shop TOMORROW NIGHT! Last seen at the Great Northern Road nightclub two months ago, this continues their relatively busy fall slate with what should be another fun evening of hard rocking and Canadian content-laden cover action, so don't miss the Syrette cousins and Ric back at it tomorrow! Bassist Dan Beaupre will again miss tomorrow's concert (hopefully he gets well soon!), but as their regular guest bassist Lori Reinholtz is playing with Mid Life Crysis at The Esquire Club this weekend, they will have someone else helping out tomorrow. Double Down confirmed on their Facebook page that "our fill-in for our fill-in bass player" is male, but have yet to confirm his identity (note that their only other fill-in bassist this fall was Alex White, who played a weekend at Jay's in September).

The Water Tower Pub does not host the same band on Fridays and Saturdays of a given weekend, so Saturday's band there will be pop rock cover veterans Encore, as per the venue's November concert calendar. Tomorrow's one-nighter has an 8:00 PM start time, 19+ age limit, and no cover charge. Visit the Facebook event page for more details, and here's Double Down live!

Next up, we'll head to Beck's Bar, where they'll host a rare (but increasingly not so rare) Friday night concert TOMORROW, where former Haggith/Project 421 frontman Curtis McKenzie will open for local Pink Floyd tribute band Dark Side Of The Soo! Curt hasn't been too active this fall, but a high profile opening slot will get his name out there with a heavier start to the proceedings (if still unplugged), so whether you're a Floyd fan or not, Curtis will get things off on the right foot! Dark Side Of The Soo are the sporadically seen tribute band led by members of pop rock cover band Bourbon Blue, and if you've caught them live before, you'll know that Jules and company do a solid job paying homage to the progressive rock titans, so keep their return in mind tomorrow! If you're curious, Saturday's nightcap at Beck's will be headlined by party rock cover band The Barbarians (featuring Elements and Handsome Sandwich alumni).

Meanwhile, Sylo frontman Eli Russell will make another return home from college as the 3:00 PM matinee act that day, so if you like his unplugged indie rock originals, keep that in mind! Tomorrow's concert has no cover charge an 8:00 PM start time, and a 19+ age limit. Visit the official Facebook event page for more details, and here's Curtis live!

We'll close today's preview post in the E.U.P., where fans can check out hard rock cover quartet Unfortunate Sun live at Huck's Pub & Grill in Rudyard for one night only on SATURDAY NIGHT! Last seen at The Merch on Halloween, this will be the Fake Chow successors' first concert in Rudyard in four months, and as you can see via this show's poster, they're definitely aiming this one towards deer hunters (firearm season in Michigan began on Saturday). This should be a fun night of rocking covers at the former Joe's Bar, so consider a trip to Rudyard (40 minutes southwest of the Soo) for all of the action if you're not in the area already! Huck's does not typically book bands on Fridays, so this is a one-nighter. "Your favourite rockin' band" will take the stage on Saturday at 8:00 PM, this is a 21+ event as usual, and there is no announced cover charge, and if you can't make it, they'll be back at The Islander Bar in Hessel on Wednesday.

Sault Michigan Hard Rock Concert Video Showcase!!

Let's tackle some recent videos from bands from or playing in Sault Michigan in today's post, and we'll start with long awaited public videos from the Night Ranger-headlined concert at The Dreammakers Theater at the local Kewadin Casino on October 3rd! In the immediate aftermath, videos weren't quick to surface online, but the ever-prolific Christopher Paci was in attendance for this one, and he finally uploaded his videos from the show to his extensive YouTube channel on Friday. No word why these took a month (let alone if he was across for the Trixter show), but better late than never! Chris filmed twelve videos at the show, nine coming from the headlining San Francisco hair metal quintet's set, where they played "(You Can Still) Rock In America", "Sentimental Street", "The Secret Of My Success", a cover of Ozzy Osbourne's "Crazy Train", their own self-titled song, a cover of bassist Jack Blades' old band Damn Yankees' "High Enough", ...

..."When You Close Your Eyes", "Don't Tell Me You Love Me", and as embedded below, "Sister Christian". While definitely not in the center section and filming from a sharp vantage point, Chris is by no means far from the action, and he zooms in well to capture Night Ranger's return to the Soo! This version of their biggest hit is extended to 8+ minutes, and while the vocals are a little quavery at points (the heavier songs from this show come across better), fans are definitely into it! Note that drummer Kelly Keagy plays live with his kit sideways, so you can see him actually drumming from a straight-on angle (not unlike Stryper). Good stuff, so check out Night Ranger's new Kewadin videos above & below!

Next up, Chris also filmed three videos of opening Santa Monica glam rock duo Nelson, who performed acoustic sets on this tour. Matthew & Gunnar were filmed at the Soo Kewadin playing "After The Rain", "(Can't Live Without Your) Love & Affection", and as embedded below, "Two Heads Are Better Than One" (which they co-wrote for Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure but was credited to the band name Power Tool). A hard rock band touring in acoustic mode only isn't unheard of for The Dreammaker's Theatre (i.e. Godsmack, Mr. Big), and while there will be a bit of an adjustment, their vocals have held up well over the years, and a reserved performance is well captured for audio with this camera, so give these a watch also!

Let's shift focus to local bands for this post's second half, starting with newly publicized videos from last month's third annual Lake Superior State University Battle of the Bands! When I recapped the battle results on the site, I noted that local hard rock/punk band About:Blank's short-handed acoustic set has a video filmed that was uploaded to personal Facebook accounts, and was thusly not shared here because of that. Well, the guys uploaded it (and two more videos) to their Facebook page last week! The video that I knew was uploaded privately saw Parker & Kade (no Nathan) playing their new original "Unfazed", and it is embedded below, but the two other videos saw them play "Infest My Mind" and "Run & Hide". Parker & Kade are really dwarfed as an unplugged duo on the cavernous Arts Center stage, so much so that I won't even complain that these videos are vertical, because everything's in frame!

Effectively, the lack of electric instruments and Nathan made this a reprise of Parker's solo set from last year's battle, just now with percussion, but the songs on offer here are promising, and I do like the grungier ambiance to "Unfazed" that would be well suited to their full presentation. If you were hoping to see Nathan Webber, good news, as we're closing with videos of his hard rock cover band Exit 808's "Fright Night On The Bay" post-Halloween concert at The Back Bay Grill & Games at Bay Mills Resort & Casino in Brimley, with eleven videos from that gig now uploaded to guest singer Molly Escherich's Facebook page! Most have Molly taking over for Amy Beach on vocals, with her and Dillion Semasky splitting or alternating vocals on covers of Eminem & Rihanna's "The Monster", Guns N' Roses' "Sweet Child O Mine" (also filmed by a second camera), AC/DC's "TNT", Alice In Chains' "Man In The Box" (which was also filmed twice), Volbeat's "A Monster's Hand", Green Day's "Brain Stew", and Lit's "My Own Worst Enemy". Molly & Amy joined forces to cover Joan Jett & The Blackhearts' "I Love Rock & Roll" and Journey's "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)".

Lineup wise, new addition Brad Pringle plays bass on all of these songs aside from "T.N.T.", which had Blaze Beairl on the four strings (I'm to assume he played more often on songs that Molly wasn't singing on). As well, "The Monster" had a costumed guest guitarist in place of Nathan, who waved glowsticks and rocked out from the audience. No definitive word on who he was, but Exit 808 did tease that Project 906's Joe Jenkins would be a guest performer too on this night. LOCAL CONCERT ALERT (Three Days Grace) & Exit 808 Updates!!

No, I didn't forget the big LOCAL CONCERT ALERT from yesterday morning, so here's what you should know about that, as well as some updates from a local band's recent Halloween gig!

Norwood, Ontario hard rock quintet Three Days Grace will make their long awaited return to Sault Ste. Marie on Tuesday, April 28th at GFL Memorial Gardens! Announced yesterday morning as part of the band's world tour in support of their new album "Alienation", this will be Three Days Grace's first appearance in the Soo since headlining at what was then the Essar Centre in December 2009, and third total after debuting at the downtown arena in January 2008. Of course, in that sixteen year gap since we last saw them, singer Adam Gontier left the band and was replaced by bassist Brad Walst's brother Matt, only for Adam to return full time last year with Matt sticking around, giving 3DG two frontmen. We never saw Three Days Grace with Matt Walst as the sole singer here, but they kept on racking up rock radio hits with him like "Painkiller", "The Mountain", and "So Called Life", so how will they sound with Adam singing too?

This won't be Matt's first time performing in the area though, as he fronted his old band My Darkest Days (of "Porn Star Dancing" fame) at the Sault Michigan Kewadin Casino in April 2012, while Adam fronted his own band Saint Asonia at The Dreammakers Theatre in February of last year, shortly before he rejoined Three Days Grace. No matter which singer/era of the band you prefer, it's awesome to see Three Days Grace coming back to the Gardens, especially with current hits like "Mayday" and "Apologies" in their back pocket, so don't miss out in five months' time! Joining them for most of the Canadian leg of the tour is Burlington alt-hard rock quintet Finger Eleven, in their first local concert appearance since opening for I Mother Earth at The Machine Shop back in April 2018, and their (at least) fifth total here, each one at a different venue. Since we last saw them, they just released their new album "Last Night On Earth".

Fans can expect a set full of classics like "Paralyzer", "One Thing", and "Good Times" in Finger Eleven's return to the Soo after eight years, so don't bypass them either! Edmonton hard rock quartet Royal Tusk will make their local debut as the opening act in April, and they have been building decent momentum with their radio-friendly brand of metal originals like "Aftermath" and "First Time" (no relation to the Finger Eleven song of the same name), and they should set things off on the right foot in the spring! No word on whether Rock 101 or 104.3 The Fox will be the presenting radio sponsor for this Live Nation concert, but both local rock stations have announced ticket giveaway contests. Public on-sale tickets go live at the in-person box office or online at this link on Friday at 10:00 AM, and tickets will start at $55 with VIP packages also being available. This will absolutely be an all ages concert, and a 7:00 PM start time is advertised.

Tuesday nighter or not, this will be a huge concert for local hard rock fans, and even if Three Days Grace were coming solo, the sixteen+ year wait alone (and all of the hits they've released since) will ensure a strong reception in twenty-four weeks' time! Let's close today with some new updates from Sault Michigan hard rock band Exit 808, starting with the clarification on their Facebook page that bassist Blaze Beairl was definitely at their Halloween weekend "Fright Night On The Bay" concert at The Back Bay Grill & Games at Bay Mills Resort & Casino in Brimley on November 1st. While not seen in videos from the event, they did share pictures featuring him in costume as a rapper, and as it turns out, he was trading off with new band member Brad Pringle throughout the night. Whether the two will juggle/alternate bass indefinitely or if Blaze will hop on other instruments in the future, I don't know, but as the band said, "(we) love our teenagers on stage!". Of note, singer Dillion Semasky appeared to have a mad scientist costume for part of the night but he did not have the coat on in the videos. Speaking of which, we have a new video to share with Blaze on bass, so what should you know there?

Uploaded to their Facebook page on Friday, this Brad and Amy-less cover of AC/DC's "T.N.T." also features guest singer Molly Escherich (as the other two videos did), and has her and Dillion trading verses. Filmed from a strong horizontal angle (if only for 39 seconds), this cover is well handled with the two singers adapting well without cloning Bon's vocal style! No word on how bar patrons were reacting to game 7 of the World Series, but if any Sault Ontarians were in attendance, I feel your pain! Two More Saturday Night Concert Previews, Plus More Recent Updates!!

I hope everyone is having a happy and safe Halloween, however you choose to celebrate! Tonight's post takes us to two more weekend concert previews in Michigan's Eastern Upper Peninsula tomorrow night, with lots of recent Sault Ontario updates to take note of, but let's lead off in the E.U.P. with the last of this weekend's heavier concert crop!

We'll start with a show TOMORROW NIGHT that has no credited post-Halloween ties, as local promoters Serious Business are bringing an intriguing package of local and touring musicians to... Pizza Hut? Yes, the bands will be setting up shop in the basement of the 2255 Ashmun Street restaurant, and while this is highly atypical for local concert locales, why not give it a shot if they're willing to host it? Novi noise punk quartet Permanently Pissed and Detroit grunge/alternative band Werewolf Jones will both be making their local concert debuts tomorrow, and with the former's garage rock-influenced noise attack and the latter's punk inflected hybrid originals, fans should get some quality sounds that we don't get often enough in the E.U.P. tomorrow! Local support will include new local hard rock trio Crush (fresh off of Alex & Josh's Halloween gig with Tarnished in St. Ignace tonight) and three-time LSSU Battle of the Bands competitor Kevin Blakeney.

Tomorrow's concert goes down at 6:00 PM with an 18+ age limit, and admission will be $15 at the door. It's always good to see Serious Business host a multi-band event like this, let alone one with touring bands, and hopefully fans pack the space for this concert (and maybe to buy some pizza?) Next up, I almost forgot to preview one more concert TOMORROW NIGHT, but I caught it in time, as local hard rock quintet Exit 808 will return to The Back Bay Grill & Games at Bay Mills Resort & Casino in Brimley for their Halloween party! It's a day late because The Back Bay Grill doesn't host bands on Fridays, not even for October 31st. Yes, there will be a costume contest, and organizers have even revealed that prizes of $300, $200, and $100 will be awarded for the top three, so don't put away your costumes just yet! "Fright Night By The Bay" will be Exit 808's first concert in over two months and their first in Brimley since the spring, while it will see them joined by fast-rising Dafter singer/guitarist Molly Escherich (straight outta Interlochen) as a guest singer, as per her Facebook page. The band has oddly not confirmed her involvement themselves, but hopefully Molly shines in her return home for the weekend!

Tomorrow's post-Halloween festivities begin at 9:00 PM with a 21+ age limit (Molly and Blaze aside) and no cover charge. With two (no, three) singers in force for this concert, hopefully Exit 808's lively brand of hard rock covers get a strong reponse at Bay Mills tomorrow as we wind the Halloween season to a close! Finally for today, here's six assorted shorter news items from the last while (all from Sault Ontario bands and concerts), and as usual, these are in alphabetical order by artist or event name:

 

• This might be nothing, but a scheduled live-stream for the multi-genre Broke & Hungry fundraiser concert at Beck's Bar on December 19th has quietly been posted onto host/MC Twitchy T. Tantrum's YouTube channel. Live-streams of local concerts don't happen enough, let alone charitable ones for the Soup Kitchen, so we'll have to keep tabs on this as we approach the holidays! Just to clarify, listed performer King Mizo is an alternate handle for Toronto rapper Unknown Mizery, who has been advertised right along.
• Sudbury-based Rush tribute band Rust have changed their name to Epic Rush, as per their Facebook page on October 20th. This came just four days after they headlined at Soo Blaster, and while I'm told that they were still were selling Rust-branded merchandise at the local gig, the name change can't have been a kneejerk reaction given the turnaround to update social media and whatnot. Regardless, posts referencing the local show are calling them by the new name, so I figured I should acknowledge it here. Hopefully things went well, and that we see Epic Rush (and/or Just Leppard) back in Sault Ste. Marie in the new year!
• Reunited local classic/hard rock cover band Quite Frankly did not perform at Kosmos Pizza in Bruce Mines this past Friday, as per their Facebook page on Tuesday last week. The band cited "an unexpected medical circumstance" as the reason for their withdrawal from the Down syndrome awareness fundraiser event, but did not go into specifics beyond that. Hopefully whoever got sick/hurt gets well soon, and that we see Quite Frankly at a public concert again soon! Kosmos Pizza still plugged "live music" afterwards, but never confirmed who replaced them.
• Local punk trio Redundant have quietly dropped out of next month's Toystock, as per the newly updated schedule on the Christmas Cheer benefit concert's Facebook page and website. A reason for Redundant's withdrawal wasn't publically announced, but they haven't posted on their Facebook page since 2023, not even to plug their Toystock set last year (let alone their bassist change). Hopefully all's well in their camp! They have been replaced by a mystery band named Sunday & The Broken Hearts, who I know as little about as I do The Reeves (the other mystery band at Toystock this year), so stay tuned when more comes out on one/both groups!
• If you're wondering why I didn't feature local classic/hard rock cover quartet Silent 9's Facebook video from Wolf Fest last month on here, it's because it's actually not of Silent 9. While the thumbnail features frontwoman Jess Amadio, this actually comes from a guest turn she took with headining local pop rock cover band The Killer Hooks, where she joined in on their cover of Rose & Bruno Mars' "Apt.". While sadly vertical and incomplete, it's a fun and lively cover of this modern pop hit, and hopefully things went well at The Roberta Bondar Pavilion for Wolf Fest!
• A book is being written about defunct local black/doom metal band Woods of Ypres and their late frontman David Gold! To be named Deepest Roots: The Woods of Ypres Story, it's being authored by J. James of the California-based Arcane Archivist Zine, and he has kept fans updated as to the biography's progress on the Woods of Ypres Fanclub Facebook group. Apparently, he has conducted 20 long format interviews adding up to around 100 minutes of material for the book so far, but things are still at an early stage. This is highly intriguing, so stay tuned for updates as the book comes together!

LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Project 906), Weekend Concert Previews, And More!!

Our first weekend concert previews of October 2025 are here, so let's dive in with some LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS, one on SHORT NOTICE! Saturday's Tym Morrison concert and Sunday's Ikons of Rock concert will be in our next news post, so don't worry, they are hitting the site soon!

Sault Michigan hard/blues rock quintet Project 906 will return to Hulbert Happy Hour in Hulbert Township for one night only on SATURDAY NIGHT! Apologies for the short notice, the band only announced this gig via their Facebook page on Monday. Believe it or not, this will be Project 906's first show at the 10402 South Maple Street nightclub since February 2022, and thusly their first there with Jason VanLuven and Brian Duford on percussion, but there is a reason for this return booking beyond just rocking out. SATURDAY is the Hulbert Freedom Festival's ATV Poker Run, with 906 serving as the night cap to the day's events, so definitely visit the official Facebook event page for the poker run's details. Meanwhile, one of the stops for the poker run is Huck's Pub & Grill in Rudyard, and they'll be hosting Project 906 on Friday, October 31st for their Halloween party, as announced on the bar's Facebook page yesterday!

As you might expect for a Halloween concert, Huck's will be hosting costume contests at month's end, with the best overall, funniest, and best couples' costumes winning prizes. Good to start seeing another Halloween concert on the schedule, so stay tuned for more as spooky season continues! Project 906 will bring the hard rock on SATURDAY at 8:00 PM and on Halloween at 9:00 PM, neither show has an announced cover charge (you don't have to register for the Poker Run to come to Hulbert), and these are 21+ events. Next up, we'll head north to Sault Ste. Marie, where San Francisco hair metal quintet Night Ranger will headline at The Dreammakers Theater at the local Kewadin Casino TOMORROW NIGHT! The first of two 1980s glam metal concerts at the Soo Kewadin this fall, Night Ranger will be rocking the casino for the first time in over 12 years tomorrow, and they will remain very familiar to local rock fans from their hit songs "Don't Tell Me You Love Me" and "Sister Christian", among others. With more classic songs, three new albums, and a switch from Joel Hoekstra to Keri Kelli on guitar, hopefully they deliver a solid night of glam metal action for fans tomorrow! Santa Monica glam rock duo Nelson (of "(Can't Live Without Your) Love & Affection" fame) will open tomorrow with an acoustic set, so come out early for Matthew & Gunnar setting the tone with some unplugged rock!

Tickets for this all ages concert are still on sale at this link, at 1-800-KEWADIN, or at the in-person box office. Limited seats are still available for $80 in rows 1-10 and $70 for seats further back, but the vast majority of tickets are sold, so act now if you haven't already just in case. VIP passes with extra perks are also available online if you are so inclined. Also this weekend, let's head to Sault Ontario for a special memorial concert on SATURDAY NIGHT at Soo Blaster, as local musicians will gather that night for Riffs For Rememberance: A Memorial For Tori! The show is in honour of Victoria Childs, an avid local music fan who suddenly passed away last month at the age of 34. Victoria was my ex-girlfriend and was a great person & mother who I actually met at Oddfellows Hall punk concerts in 2005 when we were in high school, and I know she would be absolutely thrilled that friends and musicians were coming together to pay their respects like this! Local party metal trio The Apocalypse Afterparty (featuring her cousin Mikhal Muto) will headline on Saturday, and it was Paul & Amanda's idea to host a tribute concert to her, so all kudos to them for taking the initiative like this! A very diverse lineup will also include three solo artists.

These include her friend Gimiiwan Ikwe, country cover veteran Leslie Cook, and folk singer/guitarist Linsaey L.W. while the last mystery act is Bards With Beards. Paul told me that they're a new band from HeadF1rst drummer Anthony Boudreau, but I don't have any other information on them at press time. We'll know more on Saturday! This all ages event has doors opening at 7:30 PM, and admission will be $5, with all proceeds going to Hope House - Club 84, a psychosocial rehab program for those with mental illness, and who helped and supported Victoria in times of need. Finally, I wanted to acknowledge advertised shows for this weekend that I have doubts are on as scheduled. When local classic/hard rock cover quartet Double Down announced their fall calendar a few months ago, this included a return to Reggie's Place for concerts tomorrow & Saturday night (here is their Facebook event page). However, if you were following the social media promotion for Bone Yard 225's shows there last week, there was a lot of teased finality regarding the gigs. Bone Yard are alive and well (they'll be at The Esquire Club next week), but band members, attendees, and the venue dropped a number of Facebook hints towards Reggie's ending or closing in some form or fashion, with your local 225 saying that this would be their "last weekend playing there" on September 26th. What we do know is that last week's shows marked the five year anniversary of Reggie's under Randy Lapossie's management, but is he opting out after that long?

No one has come right out and said what was going on at 458 Queen Street East, but regardless, Double Down haven't newly promoted this weekend's Reggie's dates, and the venue hasn't posted on Facebook since Saturday, so with all of that acknowledged, I'm going to treat the Double Down shows as off unless otherwise confirmed. Whether Reggie's is closing, rebranding, or changing operations in some form, we'll let you know when something is firmly and publically said! Local Metal/Hard Rock Video Showcase!!

In today's news post, we're looking at some relatively overdue live concert videos from bands on both sides of the border, so here's what you should know on this Sunday afternoon!

Let's lead off with a new video from local progressive metal band Convergence, as I surprisingly haven't talked about them in a while on here! As fans may be aware, Convergence didn't post any audio or video content from their live debut at The Pit at Soo Blaster in April, only posting teaser clips and "Reels" in the lead-up, so you had to actually be at that event to hear how they sounded as a live band, let alone with Stephen Gagnon-Ruscio on vocals (they haven't let anything with him singing from their recent studio sessions slip either). For their sophomore gig at The Upheaval at Soo Blaster three weeks ago, they did finally post a public video of the current lineup in action, so what is there to see? Just a disclaimer up front that the video has rapidly strobing red lights on the stage at Soo Blaster, so if you have any history with epileptic seizures, approach with caution. This was uploaded to their Facebook page on July 1st and is 72 seconds long.

Thankfully shot horizontally, this features the guys playing an original song, and if you were curious about Stephen's singing in this band, he does do harsh metal screaming primarily, so don't go into this expecting a reprise of The Saturday Nights or his stage musical work. Obviously not a full song, but the brutal technicality is well sampled here, and hopefully things went in their Rotaryfest Stage 2 debut today, rain acknowledged! Next up, here's new videos from a band that played at Rotaryfest Stage 1 on Friday (albeit from a prior gig), namely local classic/hard rock cover quartet Generations! On July 1st, they headlined the Canada Day festivities at The Roberta Bondar Pavilion, and drummer Tony Santoro's wife Dawn had her camera rolling, filming ten videos from their sets that evening that made their way into a batch post (along with photos) on their Facebook group the following morning. Dawn filmed Generations doing songs with all four band members on lead vocals, with frontwoman Valerie Powley fronting covers of Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams", Bryan Adams' "Summer Of '69", Nazareth's "Turn On Your Reciever", and Nick Gilder's "Roxy Roller". Tony S. handled lead vocals on covers of Trooper's "We're Here For A Good Time (Not A Long Time)", The Sheepdogs' "Take Me For A Ride", Grand Funk Railroad's "Some Kind Of Wonderful", ...

...and Stealers Wheel's "Stuck In The Middle With You". Bassist Pierre Anthony did the honours on David Wilcox's "Do The Bearcat", while guitarist Tony Kajnar sung lead on Jimmy Eat World's "The Middle". At least as far as what was filmed, Generations' set looked to be at least half Cancon, which is great for July 1st, and above & beyond what the CRTC wants for radio stations! While Dawn did get some horizontal photos, all of her videos here were shot vertically, which is never ideal (why accentuate the low crowd levels on the floor like this). That aside, these are solid and lively performances, and props for the custom Canada Day shirts! Do give Generations' July 1st videos from under the tent above, and in a nod to Canada Day, here's "Summer Of '69"!

Now let's head to Sault Michigan for some new videos from bands across the river, starting with local hard rock quintet Exit 808, whose next gig after their Walloon Lake debut last month saw them return to Republic (3½ hours west of here) on June 20th where they took part in the third annual Drewpalooza, a birthday/charity fundraiser concert at The Pine Grove Bar there. Exit 808 have made the drive there each year that it's been held, and five videos from this year made their way to their Facebook page. The first was actually a brief clip of Marquette alt-rock band Jasno's set that afternoon, with Exit 808 co-headlining the night #2 lineup before Marquette notables Spun headlined. Exit 808's set saw the return of guitarist Alex Zimmerman after he was on vacation during the Walloon Lake concert. while former guitarist Nathan Webber made the trip for this one once again.

Attendee Angie Hood is to thank for the other four videos, with her personal Facebook videos being shared onto Exit 808's page after the fact. The videos see them covering Nazareth's "Hair Of The Dog" with No Expectations singer Drew Collister on guest lead vocals (Amy & Dillion backed him), Skid Row's "Youth Gone Wild" and Judas Priest's "You've Got Another Thing Coming" with Dillion Semasky on lead vocals, but embedded below is their cover of Volbeat's new single "By A Monster's Hand", which has Amy singing more than on the other clips. Alas, all of Angie's videos were shot vertically, and the audio can be quite scratchy, but the performances are sound, so check them out for yourselves above & below!

Let's close with a long overdue piece about newer local punk/hard rock trio About:Blank, who I completely forgot to address re: their Musicians Unite fundraiser concert set at Bird's Eye Outfitters in March. I think that was partly because, in John Bullman's official media from the Mary Jo Jenkins benefit concert, his video from About:Blank's set was just of set-up prior to it. I don't think any proper videos of their set were publically uploaded on social media after the fact, but let's make up for lost time for Parker, Nathan (as seen above with Exit 808) and Cade via their set opening for Dick Texas and Violet Scum at Pickles Bar & Grill in Brimley in May. Uploaded to their Facebook page on May 6th, this has About:Blank playing an original song named "Tweak". Filmed from a good close angle, this is an energetic performance with strong pointed vocals from Parker, so check out About:Blank's Pickles video below!
