LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Scarkazm & Tym Morrison), Plus Das Bunkerfest II Info!!

Keeping the news rolling along for this early stretch of October, we have a recent jam session video, big updates concerning an event almost a year away, and first, LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS for this month (encompassing the only known concert previews we have this weekend in terms of "heavier" artists), so here's what you need to know!

Traverse City, Michigan metal trio Scarkazm will make their Sault Michigan debuts (I think) when they hit The Rapids Lounge at the Sault Kewadin Casino branch TONIGHT & TOMORROW NIGHT! Apologies for the short notice, the band quietly announced the shows on their Facebook page in August, but they only just came to our attention yesterday. These shows appear to be replacements for previously scheduled gigs by local country band Perry Hatch (source here), and follow a handful of successful weekends at the St. Ignace Kewadin in the past year, most recently in April. Featuring Peril frontman Jeff Hudson on drums, it's great to see Scarkazm finally come up to the Soo for a change, and their groove metal originals & covers should find a solid audience in their latest U.P. stops, so keep their shows this weekend in mind if you're up for some live metal action! 21+ age limit, no announced cover charges, and 9:00 age limits are in effect, so visit the above links for more details, and for a preview, here's the guys live last year!

Also newly announced, Caveman Morrison frontman Tym Morrison has confirmed via Facebook that he'll be back at The Harp Bar & Grill TONIGHT, so we'll add his October concert schedule there to our concert listings! Remember, due to the immense length of scheduled bookings on his website's calendar, we're taking these shows a month at a time, as it'd be excessive to add continuous dates into the 2020s to our listings. In October, Tym is advertised on his website to return to the former Madison's Pub tonight & TOMORROW, as well as on October 10th & 11th, 17th & 18th, 24th & 25th, and on Friday the 31st (we'll list Saturday, November 1st too just to complete that weekend), though it's not explicitly clear yet whether Tym and/or the venue will have a Halloween theme then. For reference, the event page for this weekend only explicitly references tonight's show, not tomorrow's, but as his website still lists a Saturday gig, we'll list it as on unless we get additional clarification.

Pushing his ongoing weekly concert arrangement at The Harp into it's 44th-48th straight weekends, Tym will be on each night at around 10:00 PM, you must be 19 to attend, and there's no announced cover charges. Whether you're up for his full solo show on Saturdays or his sets along with open mic acts on Fridays, keep Tym Morrison's Harp shows in mind this month, and for a preview, here's Tym live at The Harp last winter!



Finally, here's a surprise announcement for almost a year away that's almost a LOCAL CONCERT ALERT! Remember Das Bunkerfest, the private Garden River weekend concert event in August by Oh! Right Arm! Promotions that got a lot of online notice? Well, promoters are giving it a second go around over the last weekend of August 2015 (specifically, August 28th-30th, all 3 days), and they've already tentatively slotted in an intriguingly massive lineup for it! Remember though, with 11 months until show time, this can very easily change. As of right now, Das Bunkerfest II will feature Hamilton all-female hardcore punk band Pantychrist, Toronto crust punk quartet IDNS (as seen at "Das Bunker" last month), London doom/punk trio Moon Hag, Sudbury doom metal trio Horse Lung, and North Bay hardcore punk quartet The Muff Huffers, along with local metal & punk bands Shit Liver, Destroilet, AlgomA, Crucify the Whore, The Apocalypse Afterparty, The Bear Hunters, Rotopsy, Jack Spades, and surprisingly, a reunion of the older local punk band Nullified Youth, whose lineup featured AlgomA alumni!

The lineup is (for now) rounded out by local rappers Mikey Thomas, Conika, Phat Boii, and Brownman, with local DJ Hakan' Loob also scheduled for an "after hours dance party". Stacked lineup, and with a lot of female talent partly thanks to the out of town bands, so hopefully things don't change too much in the next year! A co-promotional effort by Oh! Right Arm!, Blood Shed Productions, and Jack Spades frontman J.D. Pearce, this will again take place at "Das Bunker" in Garden River, but this is absolutely a public event (at least one shuttle bus is planned too, a'la 2013's Big Loonie Bus Show in Echo Bay.) That said, as is our usual protocol, we don't list a show in our concert listings unless there's a publically advertised address, and if prior "Das Bunker" shows are any indication, we'll know the address "when we need to". Tickets will be $15 and will go on sale in May 2015, so stay tuned to the Facebook event page for full updates as they come in for the very intriguing second Das Bunkerfest!

LOCAL CONCERT ALERT (IDNS), Tuned With Random Killing, And More!!

Before we get into this post, I wanted to acknowledge a recently cancelled concert that we actually hadn't plugged on the site before it was called off, that being a planned show by local hard rock cover quartet Griphook at The Speak Easy at Algoma University that would have taken place tomorrow night. The show (which would have been their Speak Easy debut and first gig since Rotaryfest) was cancelled due to "unknown circumstances" this weekend, as per their Facebook page, but they indicated that they have future gigs to announce. Hopefully all's well from the band and venue, and stay tuned for more! Now, today's post has recent assorted notes, the new Tuned episode, and an archive video, but first, here's a SHORT NOTICE LOCAL CONCERT ALERT!

First, here's a special preview/LOCAL CONCERT ALERT, as the recently advertised IDNS concert at "Das Bunker" in Garden River TONIGHT finally has a public address! AlgomA frontman Darby Wigwaus is putting on what you could call a sequel to August's Das Bunkerfest tonight, which will feature the return of recent Oddfellows Hall-headlining Toronto crust punk band IDNS, and it will be nice to see them here again! The other previously scheduled bands include the aforementioned AlgomA, local death metal quartet The Bear Hunters (in their likely last gig before their CD release party), and local punk/metal standouts Jack Spades (in a rare appearance at a non-Johnny Pints Presents show), but there are teased and tentative additions. The lineup points to a reunion of the Soo Band Roulette-winning Cat Sass (featuring 2/3rds of AlgomA) and "a possible special attraction" to start the night. I have seen a personal Facebook posting hinting that a recently inactive metal band might be said attraction, but we'll hold further comment unless something more official is stated.

This all ages event will be held at 1472 Highway 17 E in Garden River (this address is publically posted there), it will have $5 admission, and snacks, band merchandise, and VHS tapes will be on sale, but it will be a dry event too. 8:00 PM start time as well, and visit the official Facebook event page for more details! This should be another interesting event, so be sure to check it out if you're up for some metal & punk action in Garden River TONIGHT, and hopefully I can make it out too! Next up, the new episode of Local2's music profile video series Tuned with Donna Hopper is finally online, and if you loved Hardcore Homecoming at The Rockstar Bar, you'll definitely want to check this out! The first ever Tuned episode with a parental advisory warning due to explicit language, the 15 minute episode starts with 5 minutes of Random Killing's headlining set that night (and a snippet of Destroilet before the intro) before transitioning to Donna interviewing Random Killing's Drew Kiteley on the Rockstar Bar patio, where they discuss why it's taken them 17 years to come back home, why they still play certain concerts where they don't get paid much, how Drew first got into punk rock, and even an aside from filmer (and Elements frontman) Rob Speers' memories of being at a classic Random Killing show at the Club Princess. Solid light-hearted interview for sure, though it'd have been nice if it was a bit longer. Donna follows that with a concert calendar update that includes the Gob show on October 29th (albeit still listing Seaway as opening instead of Northwest.)

The episode closes with video footage of the opening bands, including the aforementioned Elements, London punk rockers Gatgas, Destroilet (with Garry Ingram), and Jack Spades, and as usual, all are well filmed with nice audio quality, with bloopers again during the credits. Also today, here's another archive video of local hard rock cover band Havadder, also from YouTube user Danabelle39's channel! Like the recent Havadder videos that we've shared on here, this is of their 2012 Turner Up-hybrid lineup, specifically one of their first gigs together at the former Nicolet Tavern that January, where they covered The Travelling Wilburys' "Tweeter & The Monkey Man". The video quality isn't as good as in Dana's February videos of Havadder, with the colours seeming very warm and limited, and the camera angle cuts off then-guitarist Robert Brown often, but it's a well done cover, and Jason Roy's vocals seem to fit the original song! Check it out below!



Finally for today, here's three assorted shorter news items from the last while, and as usual, these are in alphabetical order by artist name:

• Just as a note of clarification, local/Toronto celtic punk quartet Dustin Jones & The Rising Tide enlisted Northwest drummer Clint Wilson to fill in for Mikey Hawdon for their local and Thessalon shows last month, as per their Facebook page at the time. Presumably due to external commitments, Mikey has missed some of The Rising Tide's recent concerts, but as far as I know, he hasn't left the band. Hopefully Clint fit in well last month!
• Though not announced on their Facebook page, Sault Michigan hard rock trio Power Slug took a road trip to play at the Kewadin Casino in Manistique this past weekend. Out of our coverage range, but hopefully the show went well! Our source is frontman Chris Leask's personal Facebook page.
• A local guitarist named Shane Bromfield is looking for other people to jam with, and his influences include everyone from Dimebag Darrell to Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Solid range, but if you're interested in playing with Shane, message him at this link or via his Musicians Wanted Facebook group post from Saturday!

LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Banned), The Return Of IDNS, And More!!

Before we head off to Hardcore Homecoming TONIGHT at The Rockstar Bar, we have a new news post on this Saturday afternoon, including a new concert video, a look at a recently released local punk CD, and info on an upcoming private concert, but first, here's some LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS for the Halloween season!

Kinross hard/classic rock trio Banned have confirmed a new concert weekend for Friday, October 31st (Halloween) and Saturday, November 1st, as they'll be returning to The Northern Pines Lounge at the St. Ignace Kewadin Casino! Among their concerts from their Facebook page's newest calendar post, these two shows were the only ones that weren't previously announced within an hour of the Soo, and join shows at the Sault Michigan Kewadin Casino in December, and preceding gigs in Gould City and Curtis that are just out of our range. As best as I can tell, these will be Banned's first shows in St. Ignace of 2014, and their first with new bassist Wayne Lawrence, so if you've missed them down that direction, keep the Halloween weekend in mind, and I'm sure costumes are encouraged! For clarity's sake, Kewadin's entertainment page still lists that weekend as "to be announced", so it hasn't been updated recently. Admission should be free for these 9:00 PM concerts, and you must be 21 to attend. For more details, check the above links, and if you're in the area, catch Banned in Gould City tonight!

Next up, another private concert event at the site of Das Bunkerfest will go down on September 23rd (one week from Tuesday), and while we don't often address events without a public address unless there's some big hype for them, this one even has a preview video online for it, so I've gotta mention it! The Facebook event page indicates that Toronto crust punk quartet IDNS will return through our area on the 23rd, with local support from local doom metal trio Algoma (whose frontman Darby Wigwaus is putting on the event), The Bear Hunters (in their last announced gig before the CD release show), and local punk/metal quintet Jack Spades (in a rare appearance at a show not promoted by frontman J.D. Pearce), and that's a solid lineup for sure! Now, the event page lists Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig in Garden River as the host venue, but that appears to be a placeholder, as every other post indicates that the Das Bunkerfest host site will also put this one on, and Darby says "you'll know the address when you need to", so follow the above links for the future address reveal.

Nice to see IDNS coming back so soon after their Oddfellows Hall gig, and hopefully their intense crust and hardcore punk sound goes over well again, this time in Das Bunker! The teaser video for the concert was uploaded to Darby's YouTube channel yesterday, and it resembles their early teaser clips by using photos and effects in front of background audio (from a show, in this case.) Here, it's confirmed that this event will have a $5 admission, it will be ALL AGES (but dry), and pop, chips, and VHS tapes will be on sale. Keep it in mind for September 23rd, check out the teaser video, and follow the event page for directions when it comes time!



Also today, a new video of local/St. Catharine's grimecore trio Shit Liver is online, courtesy of an attendee of their show opening for Killitorous in St. Catharine's earlier this week! Nicely edited multi-camera HD clip of 4 minutes of original fury (complete with logos and film grain), Shit Liver sound really good here, and if you missed Mike's mohawk, look what's back! This is one of the better Shit Liver videos that I've seen, so give it a look below!



Finally for today, here's an overdue look at the contents of the new Telephone & Address CD "Need Not Apply"! Released through Harmisntus Productions at the IDNS show last week, the SOCAN registered CD (initially printed in 100 copies) is largely packaged similarly to his prior "Rotten EP", with a cardboard case, ink stamped art, and a business card saying "I Am With You", though along with a name and website tag on a second. This is the front artwork, which slightly varied from copy to copy, while the inside features repeated dollar signs, the word "Problems", and the number 888. In order, the songs are "Opener", "Coming Down", "Perfect Circle", "General Strike", "Anthem", "Army of Losers", "Yulp" (I hope I have that spelled right), "Back To The Beginning", "Brace Yourself", "Commercial", "Forged A Heart", "Go To Hell", "The Way It Goes", "Untitled", and "WW3", and if the song title is linked, it's to it's upload on Telephone & Address' Soundcloud page. You may have heard project leader Chris Shoust play many of these songs at the IDNS show, but the recent Soundcloud song "Anthem to the Queen" did not make the cut.

Like at the release concert, this CD is entirely based around bass & vocal-centric punk/grunge originals, so if you liked what you heard there, you should like "Need Not Apply"! Copies are $15 (that's $1 a song) at future concerts and presumably through direct contact with Chris at the above links, but when can you expect a review of this CD on the site? Perhaps this month, though with Northwest's EP also in the wings, I have to make a choice on one or the other soon (but it's definitely coming!) IDNS/Catharcyst Concert Review!!

Hey guys, it's finally time for our review of Saturday night's IDNS concert at The Oddfellows Hall! Video uploads were slower than expected yesterday (Rotopsy's video gave me a lot of grief), hence why the review is only up now, so our apologies for the wait. The attendance on Saturday was mixed at best, with The Apocalypse Afterparty surprisingly getting the day's peak crowd, but the constant fans indoors kept up a good energy level, and I liked the time management for the sets! Before we get into the actual bands, I'll note that the announced co-headliners, Winnipeg hardcore punk band Bring The Fight were forced to drop out due to mechanical problems, according to promoter Tyler St. Amour before showtime. Disappointing, but hopefully we see them in the Soo at some point!

Saturday night's concert began with local goregrind solo project Crucify The Whore, who put on another reliably heavy set to kick things off! Early fans of Tyler Gibson's solo work were on hand to take in original songs like "Orthostatic Hypotension", "Seshing In June Bugs", and the newer "Entrepreneur", and if you've seen past C.T.W. shows, you'll know exactly what went down as an overall experience! Even with minimal people at the set's beginning, Tyler laid down a solid and energetic set of goregrind that definitely has it's audience, though attendees who don't take to the genre or minimalistic lineup still won't have been convinced. Tyler's guitar work was solid as ever (though I'd like to see him play some more solos), and those pig squeal vocals are well controlled! Another unapologetic and spontaneous set from C.T.W., and Tyler had more where that came from later that night! Is it surprising that Crucify The Whore were the only local band on Saturday that had a live guitar for their set?

Second was the 2014 debut of local punk/grunge solo project Telephone & Address, who I've surprisingly never seen in concert before (Chris Shoust's appearance at Soo Band Roulette aside.) I'd went in expecting an reserved vocal/guitar set, but Chris surprised us by breaking out an acoustic bass and drum machine for a fuller live band sound, which seemed to go over fairly well! As announced prior to the event, Chris did indeed release his new Telephone & Address CD "Need Not Apply" for $15 after his set (along with selling his older "Rotten EP" and some of his writing and video work), and he did play songs from it like "Army of Losers" and "The Way It Goes" during his set. His stage presence was looser than at the roulette, and he was in his element playing his own originals, which compliment his unique singing voice pretty well! That said, his set could be seen as a change from his recent unplugged guitar recordings, but if he ever expanded back to a full band like his older local music work, this would be a good starting point! Solid change of pace, and stay tuned for our rundown of the packaging and songs on "Need Not Apply" this week!

Next was the first public appearance (and last local set of 2014?) from new local rap/metal duo The Apocalypse Afterparty, and these masked bandits definitely left a strong impression for the day's peak audience! While their Smokin' Heroines support was more muted than expected (despite the presence of Wonder Woman), X & Z delivered a spunky and hard hitting set of original songs like "Glory & Gore" that got fans moving! Stage names and personas aside, the connections to the "songwriters"' old bands were clear as day, with old Fury standards like "The Crowd" and "Rebel Scum" returning to the public stage with gusto, but if you were to compare the two bands, The Apocalypse Afterparty are heavier, feature more rapped vocals (and British accents), and are visually more creative. Z announced near the end of their set that this will probably be the last time you see the band for 8 months, believed to be related to Steve Mozarowski's return to the Toronto area until next summer, but they went out with a bang, and hopefully we'll hear more from them sooner than that!

Last of Saturday's local bands was C.T.W.'s Tyler Gibson's other active live grind band Rotopsy, who picked up where Tyler left off with more goregrind originals and a fun and bouncy stage presence! Originals like "Shovel Packin'", "T.F.T.", and "Let Us Rot" were among the older and more recent tracks played on Saturday, and even as a duo, Dylan and Tyler have great chemistry on these tracks! Dylan's vocals are slowly becoming more diverse too beyond scattered grunts, and hopefully he keeps that evolution going. It'd be interesting to hear Rotopsy originals done with a guitar rather than (or along with) a bass too, but maybe this is an intentional choice to differentiate them from C.T.W., who Dylan guests with on occasion already. Still a polarizing band for some, but Rotopsy are having fun, and their brutal originals made their mark as always!

With Bring The Fight's dropout, your co-headliners on Saturday were Sudbury blackened death metal quartet Catharcyst in their long awaited return to the Soo, and I thought they were awesome! The guys powered through a set of brutal and crushing original songs from their long run like "A Spell Has Been Cast" & "Endless Torture", which had the death metal style with some blackened shrieks and tinges, and I'm also very impressed at how they embraced the crowd despite the very noticeable dropoff in attendance after the local bands. Frontman Paul Cipriani and bassist Kipp Grose were especially warm and engaging during the set, and that was great to see, while guitarist Brady McCoy laid down some very cool solos throughout! I'm more disappointed with the crowd level and lack of moshing (I didn't catch anyone starting a pit), but I think Catharcyst made some new fans all the same! Very entertaining set, and hopefully we see Catharcyst back in the Soo soon!

And finally, Toronto crust punk quartet IDNS took the stage on Saturday night for their own hard hitting and chaotic set, and they ensured fans left on a high note! Playing a near relentless set of hardcore & crust-influenced punk with some death metal touches, you know a band is going on all cylinders when they're hard to photograph, and singer Sean was all over the place in that regard! Plenty of short, no nonsense, and grimy action to be had, and Matt, Preston, and Darren all held up their ends of the bargain as well, and while they lacked the technicality of Catharcyst, they made up for it in intensity and punk attitude! Late fans definitely enjoyed it (I know Ringsnaps did), and if this show was an experiment into future Heavy North Entertainment shows with punk headliners, I think it passed with flying colours on a critical level! I just hope there's more fans the next time out. IDNS delivered a great set, and hopefully there's more to come!

LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (The Bear Hunters & Tym Morrison) And Sault Ontario Weekend Concert Previews!!

Now that I'm back on a good internet connection, we can get things back on a decent schedule, and from that, we have some LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS today, and this weekend's Sault Ontario metal/hard rock/punk concert previews! For reference, we do plan on covering Exiled's show on Saturday for our Yooper readers, but to avoid it getting lost in the shuffle, that will be in tomorrow's post, so don't worry! Now, here's what you need to know!

Caveman Morrison frontman Tym Morrison has confirmed his newest Harp Bar & Grill gigs for TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT in his ongoing weekly concert arrangement there, so we'll officially add his September gigs there to our concert listings! Apologies for the short notice regarding this weekend's gigs, he just confirmed them via their Facebook event page yesterday. Tym's September gigs at the former Madison's Pub amount to his 40th-43rd consecutive weekends there, and unlike in other recent months, Tym is scheduled to host & play at the Friday open mic nights AND play a normal Saturday solo gig all month long with no listed breaks, though of course, we'll let you know if any of the shows get bumped (or if another return to The Roadhouse Bar & Grill is added.) Like usual, Tym's gigs this month (including shows this weekend and on September 12th, 13th, 19th, 20th, 26th, and 27th) have no announced cover charge, 19+ age limits, and 10:00 PM start times. Next up, local death metal standouts The Bear Hunters will finally release their debut album "Eternal Hibernation" on Saturday, October 18th at a CD release party show at The Algonquin Pub! Note that the Facebook event page outwardly credits The Rockstar Bar as the host venue, but further reading confirms it will be downstairs. Currently slated to be the band's first local concert appearance since last month's Archspire show, The Bear Hunters (along with two opening bands to be announced) will take the stage for a brutal night of metal, in what the headliners are calling "the biggest moment of our career", so diehard fans won't want to miss out! The guys will play two sets, including the entire "Eternal Hibernation" album in the first, and newer non-album songs (like their newest track "Neckbreaker") in the second. CD copies of their debut album will be on sale that night, though prices and online availability have yet to be announced, and there will be a contest for advance ticket buyers to enter where you could win a free copy of the album, a band t-shirt, and more surprise band merchandise, so keep that in mind!

Yes, relocated rhythm guitarist Josh Stephney will be back with the band on October 18th as well, for just his third Bear Hunters concert appearance since moving to Brampton last year. Admission will be $5 in advance (with ticket details to be announced) or $7 at the door, a 10:00 PM start time is announced, and you must be 19 to attend. For more details, check the above links! The news comes on the heels of an ambitious Facebook page post on Tuesday where the band confirmed that they're also working on a new EP named "Aftermath" that will compile B-sides from older and recent recording sessions that, while not fitting for their planned second album, deserve to be heard all the same. As such, we likely haven't heard these songs in concert, but fans should be excited! The same posting also alluded to new band merchandise, an online store launch, a music video of some form, and future recording sessions for a second full length album, but further details on each have yet to be made. Sounds like The Bear Hunters have some huge plans in the works, and we'll have to see how/if everything falls into place! Stay tuned for updates!

Finally for now, a new Heavy North Entertainment ALL AGES show goes down THIS SATURDAY at The Oddfellows Hall (their first since their teases of the promotion's end), as they have a huge night planned with 8 bands to help ring in the fall, including three out of town metal bands! The headliners are Toronto crust punk quartet IDNS (short for I Don't Need Society), who should lay down some impressive and fast death/punk originals on Saturday night, so Shit Liver fans should be right at home with their set! The long awaited local return of Sudbury blackened death metal quartet Catharcyst will also occur on Saturday, and their brutality will come right after a set by Winnipeg hardcore punk quintet Bring The Fight (not Fallen), whose own energetic & hard hitting originals should appease locals on Saturday as well! An expanded lineup of 5 local opening bands will include Blood Shed Productions goregrind artists Crucify The Whore & Rotopsy, local doom/punk trio The Revolution (formerly the second Brutaly Fatal), the public concert debut of new rap/metal duo The Apocalypse Afterparty, and local grunge/punk solo project Telephone & Address' first set of the year!

Note that this will be The Revolution's first set at a Blood Shed-affiliated show since breaking from the label, while I don't know if Telephone & Address new album "Need Not Apply" will be on sale yet or not. This ALL AGES concert goes down on Saturday at an early start time of 5:00 PM, and admission will be $10. For more details, visit the official Facebook event page! LOCAL CONCERT ALERT (IDNS), The Endast Concert Preview, And More!!

As August's last week presses on, let's get to some news today, including new videos (and a related apology), a local punk project's return, and a preview of a special Wednesday night show, but first, here's a cool LOCAL CONCERT ALERT for next weekend!

Heavy North Entertainment will not be ending their concert promoting days, as they're bringing a new ALL AGES concert to The Oddfellows Hall on Saturday, September 6th that will be headlined by Toronto crust punk quartet IDNS! Short for "I Don't Need Society", IDNS have a brutal death metal/punk hybrid sound, many short originals, and an aggressive stage show that should fit in very well next weekend, so be sure not to miss their set! Two more out of town bands will be making their way to The Oddfellows Hall that night, including the return of veteran Sudbury blackened death metal quartet Catharcyst to our neck of the woods (nice to see Paul and company finally get a new local booking!), as well as a set by the explosive Winnipeg hardcore punk quintet Bring The Fight (not to be confused with Bring The Fallen), so be sure to check out both of them A.S.A.P.! Local support will include Blood Shed Productions goregrind acts Crucify The Whore & Rotopsy, as well as local doom/punk trio The Revolution (formerly the second Brutaly Fatal) in their first set at a Blood Shed-affiliated concert since their split from the label, so it's nice to see that things are being patched up!

The local openers will be rounded out by new local rap metal duo The Apocalypse Afterparty (in their public concert debut) and local grunge/punk solo act Telephone & Address' first known public set of 2014, so be there early for their sets too! This concert (which was briefly linked with J.D. Pearce before handing it over to H.N.E.) will have a $10 admission fee and an announced early start time of 6:00 PM. For more details, visit the official Facebook event page! This should be another solid show from H.N.E., and I'm glad to see that Tyler's not stopping his concert promoting just yet! Stay tuned for updates on this show over the next couple of weeks!

Next up, here's a preview of a special mid-week concert going down THIS WEDNESDAY, as Montreal thrashcore quintet Endast will make their long awaited return to Sault Ontario for a headlining show at The Rednecks Saloon! Last seen locally 4 years ago at the former Foggy Notions, it's been way too long to see Big James and the guys back in the Soo, and their technical and very intense originals should be welcomed back with open arms at this concert, so be sure not to miss out on the return of Endast! Local support will come from two PaperClip Productions artists making their debuts at the former Nicolet Tavern, including local grunge/alternative quartet Haggith (making just their third live appearance since their reunion, and second with new bassist James White) and the aforementioned Revolution, who will be playing their first live set since opening for Anciients in June. Interesting choices, especially given the brutal thrash and death metal to follow, but the locals should make a solid impression! This show is being promoted by Bear Hunters guitarist Mitch Sirie, marking his return to booking out of town headliners after (I think) a 2 year break, which is cool to see again!

This 19+ concert goes down this Wednesday at 10:30 PM, and admission is FREE, so why miss out on all of the action? For more details, visit the official Facebook event page! It's been far too long to see Endast back on a local stage, so kudos to Mitch for getting them back here, and I hope to see you guys there for all of the brutality at The Rednecks Saloon THIS WEDNESDAY! Also today, remember the pop punk/screamo band For July that we rolled into our coverage on the site last month as part of our features on defunct and inactive punk bands? Well, they appear to be back as an active project! Frontman Dave Hunter has recently launched a new For July SoundCloud page and posted some audio tracks there, and while three of the songs ("Change Is", "Fable", and "Don't Hold Your Breath") are re-posts from their MySpace page, two new "work in progress" songs ("I Let Go" and "The Emo Song") have also been uploaded there. Dave notes on SoundCloud that he recorded all the instruments and wrote, recorded, and mixed all of the songs by himself, which currently points to For July becoming a solo project without ex-members Jordan Latour & Ryan McLaughlin, but whether Dave plans to build a new live band down the road or not isn't publicized yet. If you liked older For July songs, you'll probably like the new "work in progress" songs, with "The Emo Song" having an explicit fast pop punk sound, and "I Let Go" being more emotional and slow paced.

It's nice to see Dave bring For July back, and hopefully things pick up and succeed in their current incarnation, so follow the band above for new and old media, and For July are now in our active Sault Ontario band links!

Lastly for today, here's some more new videos from local grunge/hardcore duo Bad Back! Uploaded to drummer Nathan Sauve's new YouTube channel over the past few days, one of the videos is of Nathan playing a drum solo (a'la his old "Nathan Sucks" videos) from a top down angle, interspersed with him imitating a ringing phone, I think. Short, but a solid performance, so click here to check it out! The other video comes with an attached apology on our part, as this comes from the private concert last week that Bad Back played where they opened for out of town punk duo Bardos, but when we plugged Nathan's earlier cover videos from this show, we erroneously said that the show in question was Das Bunkerfest. Blame the dark lighting, I couldn't make out too much, but our sincere apologies for the screw-up, and all 3 of Nathan's newest concert videos were from the private Bardos show! This video features the full set that Bad Back played that night, so what songs made their setlist on this night?

The video includes their originals "Breeding Weak", "Lung Bucket", "Drum My Way Home", "Party Bus", "#1 Hit Single", a cover of The Foo Fighters' "I'll Stick Around", originals "Shirt Tucker" & "Oh!", and the previously uploaded covers of Tom Petty's "American Girl" and NOFX's "Linoleum". Strong 37 minute video for fans of Bad Back, though the covers can be messy, and while the lighting was brightened a bit this time, the colours are a bit more washed out this time. Nice and intense, if from a far camera angle, so see Bad Back's set at the Bardos private gig below!
