More Interesting Local Metal Videos From The Past!

Hey guys, here's a special post for this morning, as I have a selection of old school live clips featuring local metal bands! Some great stuff here, and I figure now's as good of a time as ever to share them with all you readers! I appreciate every hit, and I hope these little flashback posts will strike some interest, cause I like doing them myself!

First, let's head back to 1996 for a clip of defunct local metal band Lower S.E.S.! I've talked about these guys a bit on the SMS in the past, and bassist Erik Rintamaki (Set To Random) uploaded this clip onto YouTube of a Lower S.E.S. show at The Hollywood Bar, in support of L.A. Guns! Audio's a bit muffled, but remember, it is a 13 year old video. Very solid stuff, and it's one of the oldest Sault Michigan videos I've found online! You can tell these guys liked Pantera! Of course, you can hear their full E.P. (and watch more videos) on their official MySpace page (I wanna review it in the future!) These guys are really good, is it wrong for me to want them to reunite? Fun fact: Lower S.E.S. also featured drummer Mikey Bishop, a Sault native who's played for notable Michigan bands like Sadomasochism, among others! Check this video out!

Next, we'll head to 1999, at The Club Princess in Sault Ontario (remember when they still held shows there?) This clip features inactive local hard rock band Beefmouth, playing their original "3rd Witch"! I don't know a ton about this band, I know one member is bassist Kevin Campbell from Nullified Youth, and they haven't been active in a number of years, but little else. No internet pages to speak of other than Kevin's YouTube channel. Good stuff though, it's heavy and has a punk kind of vibe to it! Vocals are unique in their high pitched yelling quality! Also, some cool effects were added to the video too! Worth a look, especially if you miss shows at The Princess!

Now we'll fast forward 3 years for a true relic: The first Woods of Ypres concert EVER. This was from a show in Windsor way back in 2002, when Woods were still Southern Ontario based, David Gold was still the drummer, and the band still featured Brian McManus & Aaron Palmer on guitar & bass, with both sharing vocal duties. This video features the band performing their first ever live song, "Crossing The 45th Parallel" from their first album, "Against The Seasons: Cold Winter Songs From The Dead Summer Heat", at The Changes Bar in July 2002! Now I'm sharing this video with you guys for the historical coolness of it, not audio quality, as the audio really is bad here. But this is still an awesome find, thanks to David for uploading it to YouTube!

And finally, we'll head to 2005, for my final classic local video to share with everyone today! And this comes direct from Woods of Ypres/ex-Gates of Winter guitarist Bryan Belleau's YouTube channel! In the past couple days, he's began uploading some classic Gates of Winter videos, including clips from their August 2007 performance at Algoma University, some footage from a Sudbury show, video from jam sessions, and most excitingly, a full concert video from a January 2005 concert at Club Princess! This is so old, frontman Lee Maines has a full head of hair, and James Chiverelli was still their drummer! The concert features all the songs from their debut EP (except "Euphoria"), as well of covers of songs by Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Dimmu Borgir, and Metallica! Great stuff, I miss these days when Gates played these songs and lots of covers! Here's part 1 of the concert, but the rest can be viewed at this location!

As always, head to The Sault Metal Scene's official YouTube channel for hundreds of videos from local metal bands, artists, and concerts! Also, check out stuff I've uploaded too! That's all for now, news will return very soon! Thanks everyone, check out the videos!
