First off, I want to apologize for the long gap between posts. I usually try to have a new post up within three days of the previous one, but honestly, I was low on verifiable news to post over the Labour Day weekend. I know of a couple stories I'm waiting for the go-ahead or more details on, but only this morning did I finally get enough to fill a post. Apologies for the delay, and I'll make sure it won't happen again anytime soon if I can help it! Now, today we have this week's classic video, a new music video from a local band, and leading things off, LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS, so here's what you need to know!
Local metal quartet Late & Loud are headlining TOMORROW NIGHT'S 32nd Roosevelt Hotel metal night! This will be the band's first local concert of any kind in over 4 months, following their hiatus that began in late April, and I think it will be just their second ever concert at The Rosie since their inception last year. We knew of their show at The Speak Easy next week already, but it's great to see them returning a bit earlier after such a long absence! Now, death metal quintet The Bear Hunters were originally confirmed by Dismembertainment last night as the second band, but they confirmed on their own Facebook page this morning that they would not be playing at The Rosie tomorrow night. No reason was announced for the drop, but nothing seems out of place, so I assume it's a schedule conflict or something small like that. If I hear anything on a new second band, I'll let you guys know! This concert will be on at 10:00 PM-ish tomorrow night, there's no cover charge, and you must be 19 to attend. Check the above links for more details! Should be a good show, no matter who's joining Late & Loud, and you know their return will be entertaining and worth checking out, so head to The Rosie tomorrow night if you can! Stay tuned for details on this concert!
Also for new concerts, local classic hard rockers That's Chester will return to the stage themselves THIS FRIDAY at The Rockstar Bar! This will be their first concert (to my knowledge) since they rocked Rotaryfest's main stage in July, and hopefully after a fairly quiet summer, this will kick start things for That's Chester to end the year! Note that they are only playing on Friday night, there isn't a Saturday show this weekend. Either way, it's great to see this talented veteran quintet back on the local stage after being absent through the month of August, and hopefully they tear it up on Friday! The show will start at 10:30 PM, you mut be 19 to attend, and there's no announced cover charge (but have cash on hand.) For more details, visit the official Facebook event page! Sounds like a good time, here's hoping That's Chester deliver a great night of classic hard rock covers on Friday! Stay tuned for more on this show in tomorrow's weekend concert preview post, and apologies for the short notice on both of these new shows!
Now to the new videos, and first, here's a new music video from Sault Michigan/Grand Rapids epic metal quintet End of Existence! It's for an unmastered new original song named "Distrust", and what can we expect in the video and song? The bulk of the video is Bob Helsten singing in a dark setting with only his face and hand visible in red lighting, though the instrumental sections feature closeups of the band performing with waving American flags and various effects & filters added to the footage. Sort of grainy at points, but it works well enough, and as for the song? It makes great use of Craig Harrison's keyboard work, but on the whole, it's a fairly soft song for End of Existence. It has a dark orchestral feel at parts though, and Bob's singing has an affecting quality, so it's definitely worth checking out! Uploaded to the band's YouTube channel on Friday, you can watch End of Existence's new video for "Distrust" below, and keep an eye out for more E.O.E. news and updates!
And finally for today, here's this week's classic video! This week, I thought we'd tie in the new video with Sault Michigan hard rock quintet Swayze Train, especially now that we're covering them on the SMS officially, and more specifically, we'll focus on bassist Tony Rogers! As you may know, he's well known locally as "Slappy" in the local funk/metal quartet Clownsack (which isn't a secret, but I like to keep the mystery & theme going), but Clownsack videos are surprisingly hard to come by online, especially from recent years. I did find a recent video of Clownsack in action though, and it appears to be from a late 2010 concert where they played their new original song "I Live In A Drawer"! I can't verify the location or date of this video, but it's pre-March 2011 judging by the original video's title, and if you can help fill in the blanks, let me know! This was shot by attendee Keelyn Chambers on what looks like a cell phone camera, so it was uploaded sideways originally, but I've since fixed it for the YouTube upload. The audio suffers badly as a result, but I can make out the song. She also mostly focuses on Slappy/Tony on stage, but Schloppy and Skronko are visible here & there as well. Sure, this won't win any video quality awards, but it's cool to find any remotely newer Clownsack videos regardless!
Uploaded onto Facebook on March 14th of this year, you can watch the original upload of this video at http://facebook.com/video/video.php?v=1830320672855. NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT IS INTENDED!! All credit for this video goes to Keelyn and Clownsack for all of their hard work, I'm just sharing this video with a wider audience like it deserves! So without any further adieu, here's this week's classic video!
That's all for today, but stay tuned for weekend concert previews tomorrow, our next Defunct Local Band Profiles on Saturday, and much more very soon! Thanks everyone!
