A busy weekend of concerts is upon us, so here's our first weekend concert preview post! We're leading off with shows from bands playing tomorrow in some fashion, and tomorrow's preview post will likely tackle the upcoming Ripcordz, 1971, and Project 906 shows in the area (and yes, I am aware of the Hazytones show with Eclipse opening, but as that's on Monday, that might be held until the weekend.) Now, here's our first previews!
We'll start at Gliss Steak & Seafood, where local acoustic solo hard rock artist Tym Morrison will continue his weekly concert arrangement with shows TONIGHT, TOMORROW, and SATURDAY! One week removed from a quadruple run of local shows (including last week's Roadhouse return), the longtime Caveman Morrison frontman should be in good spirits as he continues his once again thrice-weekly gigs at The Quality Inn's house restaurant, so don't miss out on his skilled blend of unplugged hard rock covers! As is standard for his Gliss run, there are no announced cover charges or age limits for these 6:00 PM shows, but remember where they are being held. For more details, visit the official Facebook event page, and here's Tym live!
Next up, local alternative/hard rock trio The Din will finally release their debut studio album "Give In To The Din" TOMORROW NIGHT when they headline their CD release concert at the auditorium at The Tech! After spending months working on this anticipated disc, Mike, Tammy, and Brendan will unveil the final product to fans at the former St. Mary's College, with this show taking on an unusually professional setup, atmosphere, and structure as a result. The Din's entertaining originals should fit in fine regardless, so don't miss their big day tomorrow at The Tech! In a flip from their lineup order at last week's "Meditations" release show, local post-punk quartet Gnaeus will return the favour as openers tomorrow in their Tech debut, and be sure to consider picking up a copy of their well recieved debut album tomorrow! Tidal Records will reportedly also be on hand to sell merchandise and show their support, so keep their presence in mind as well! With the show taking place at a formal auditorium at the multi-purpose Wellington Street East building, there will be assigned seating, as advance ticketholders will already know.
However, there are tickets are still available as of this writing for $5, while groups of 5 or more can get in for $3 a piece (and yes, this is ALL AGES!) Doors open at 6:45 PM on tomorrow for what should be a fun and suitably upscaled release show, and with all of the work, effort, and planning that is going into this concert, you won't want to miss out! Visit the official Facebook event page for more details, and here's The Din live at The Tech!
We'll head to the Sault Michigan area to close out this preview post, starting with local classic/hard rock trio Banned, who will return to the annual Sugar Island Festival in nearby Sugar Island TOMORROW and SATURDAY NIGHT! Though curiously not advertised publically by Banned themselves, this will continue Banned's annual string of recent concerts at this summer music festival, with sets scheduled for 7:45 PM tomorrow and 8:30 PM on Saturday. As usual for the Sugar Island Fest, the lineup is largely comprised of country and folk acts from the region, largely ones without known online pages, though still familiar from many recent festival installments. Acts like 3-Zip, All Arms, 3½
Men, 2 ¢, and Frank Kieronski will share the stage with Banned on both nights that they are performing, so for the full schedule (including Sunday's lineup), visit this link!
Admission for the Sugar Island Festival remains $10 for the whole weekend (no single or two-day options), and if you're buying in advance, get your buttons at Grooves Music in the Soo, or at The Hilltop Bar, Ed's Bayview Store, and the Westshore Convenience Store on Sugar Island. Kids under 12 are FREE with adult accompaniment, and click here
for details on camping, other fees, and festival directions. Alex, Don, and Wayne should have a solid weekend of tunes in store for this year's festival, so don't miss out, see above for details, and here's Banned last year!
Finally for today's preview post, we'll head to The Rapids Lounge at the Sault Michigan Kewadin Casino, as local classic/hard rock cover quartet Highway 63 will return for solo headlining concerts TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT! Keeping their busy and regular run of monthly gigs at The Rapids Lounge alive, this union of Monkey's Uncle and Power Slug alumni should rock out nicely with their fan favourite covers this weekend, so don't miss out in Sault Michigan over these two nights! And yes, these are credited on Kewadin's entertainment page, whether or not Highway 63 gives them a new public plug. The Switzers, Chris, and Ron will be on at 9:00 PM both nights, you must be 21 or older to attend, and there are no announced cover charges. For more details, visit the above links, and here's Highway 63 live!
That's all for today, but stay tuned for more weekend concert previews tomorrow! Thanks everyone!
