LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Punk Rock Fiesta & The Reeves!!)

Before we look at a (somewhat thankfully) quieter batch of weekend concert previews, here's a news post devoted to two LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS for the fall with touring headliners, one being particularly notable for its band reunions and implied status as a first annual punk festival, so here's what you should know on this Wednesday evening!

Local hard rock quartet The Reeves and space rock duo The Spaceship Opening will make their debuts at The Art Hub At Spring on Saturday, September 5th when they open for Saskatoon indie rock band Autopilot in their local debut! First teased on The Reeves' Facebook page last week, the headliners aren't a hard rock band, but if you like alternative and pop rock of the kind you used to see at LopLops, you'll take to Autopilot's melodic original sound with some unique flourishes (they even use a bow to play the guitar here and there!) For the local openers, this will be both bands' second show of the year, following The Reeves' set at Rotaryfest Stage 2 and The Spaceship Opening's Blaster Powerhouse gig at the start of the month, and they should set the tone well with their hard rock originals! Promoted by Hails frontman Brenton Ellis, this is far from his only collaboration with The Art Hub (actually located at 504 Queen Street East), so stay tuned for more on what he's cooking up there.

The first SMS-covered concert at The Art Hub At Spring since the Shae Tull/Pet Retina gig there in May 2025, this all ages concert on Autopilot's Name That Tour! will have doors opening at 6:00 PM, and admission will be $15 or "pay what you can". Sounds like an intriguing spread of sounds for fans of original rock music, if at a somewhat more intimate locale, so visit the official Facebook event page for more details!

Next up, Toronto hardcore punk legends Random Killing will return to the Soo for the first annual Punk Rock Fiesta on Saturday, October 3rd! Ostensibly intended as a major annual local hardcore punk concert, this is the brainchild of new local promoters BCDR Productions (BCDR = Bush Core Drunk Rock), led by former Destroilet guitarist Christian Foisy, who co-promoted the Fist Magnet/Room 206/Spigots concert in at Soo Blaster in December. That's where we last saw Random Killing in town (opening for The Dayglo Abortions in May 2023), but Punk Rock Fiesta will instead mark the grand return of a multi-band concert to The Algonquin Hotel for the first time since they paused hosting normal live bands in mid-2022 after some lean times there post-pandemic. We have seen the occasional Silent 9-headlined charity event there at The Rockstar Bar upstairs, but it is great to see them hosting a proper multi-band concert again after over 4 years! Here's hoping for some more!

As best as I can tell from the mildly conflicting marketing, this will be at The Rockstar Bar, not the downstairs Algonquin Pub (though some posts just say it'll be at The Algonquin Hotel). Of course, it will be great to welcome Random Killing and their Saultite frontman Andrew "Drool" Kiteley back to the Soo this fall, and they're no strangers to The Rockstar Bar (headlining there twice in the 2010s), so hopefully there's another packed turnout of punk fans for their intense original back catalogue! The performance order is not clear based on how the bands are ordered on both the official (not AI!) poster and the official Facebook event page, but there will be two more big band reunions here, including the return of 1990s hardcore punk staples Fist Magnet, who we last saw at the aforementioned Blaster show in December. No word if their lineup will be Garry, Andrew, Dave, Christian, and John again, but keep note of this set in less than two months!

Perhaps more surprisingly, local punk/country quintet The Billy Bastards will reunite for their first gig since the inaugural Northern Vibe Festival in 2015 on this night! The band had hinted at reunions off and on over the past decade among posthumous hype for t-shirts and their music on streaming services, but that picture of 4/5ths of the band together in May on their Facebook page must have been a good indicator! I will treat this as a one-off reunion unless otherwise confirmed, but it will be great to see their cowpunk originals back this fall! Local crossover thrash trio Hails will make their Rockstar Bar debut on this night, as will newer local punk quartet PROD ("punk rock overdose"), who debuted at the December punk reunion concert but hadn't been seen since. Featuring three members of the Fist Magnet reunion lineup, hopefully they have a big return in their own right after 9 months away!

The last two bands are debuting bands named Dead II Society and The Baby Rails, neither of which has an online page or public information yet. I believe I know who one of the bands is, based on an intriguing recent personal Facebook video, but if true, I don't even know which of the two bands they're supposed to be. Stay tuned for more updates! Punk Rock Fiesta goes down on October 9th at 6:00 PM, it is 19+, and tickets go on sale on Friday at The Rad Zone (I don't know if there will be availability online or through the local performers). The Fist Magnet/Spigots Reunion Concert Video Showcase!!

In today's post, let's look at videos from the well received 1990s punk reunion concert at Soo Blaster on December 27th! These videos all come from former AlgomA guitarist Kevin Campbell's YouTube channel, which hosts various vintage punk videos and albums, not always locally tied (the channel is now known as Canadian Punker, but operated under a different name for years). This show (held in the memory of late Fist Magnet guitarist Chuck Ayotte) raised $5,360 for the Algoma Regional Community Hospice, as verified in this post from ARCH's Facebook page, so kudos all around to everyone who supported the cause! Kevin filmed all bands on this night except late openers The Sault Side Squad (now renamed With Gunfire, more on them in an upcoming post), but he got fourteen videos from the night's other four groups, so in performance order, who else took the stage?

Second up on the 27th was debuting local punk quartet P.R.O.D., featuring former Destroilet bandmates Christian Foisy & John Conway alongside Fist Magnet bassist Andrew Marson and Gambit drummer Clint Wilson. While their Soundcloud (and so far, only online) page has original demos, Kevin filmed them covering NOFX's "Bottles To The Ground", and as embedded below, The Crucifucks' "Hinkley Had A Vision". Christian takes on lead vocals here, and while his singing is somewhat buried in the mix, they have a solid enough 1990s punk spirit on these covers, and I'm game to hear more from them! Check this out below, and watch for ex-Destroilet drummer Matt Waples!

The two one-off 1990s punk reunions came next, starting The Spigots (or, as the screen says, "Some Spigots"). Here, singer Trevor Harding & bassist Frank Guidocco were joined by half of The Inner City Surfers (Mikey Hawdon and Dave Bahun), and Kevin filmed them covering Gordon Lightfoot's "Ed's Boat" and playing their originals "Beer Goggles", "You're So Rad", and as embedded below, "Nothing You Do". Interestingly, all four of Kevin's videos have Mikey on guitar and Dave on drums, a flip of what they usually play, but I don't know if this is how the whole set went or not. Fun throwback sound with Trevor displaying a lot of energy, and the increased crowd on the floor is encouraging, so check these out above & below!

Though not last on the 27th, the long awaited Fist Magnet reunion was the top advertised band, and if you liked P.R.O.D., you'll like that all but Clint took part here! Frontman Garry Ingram (ex-Gatgas) and drummer Dave Stokes joined their old bandmate Andrew plus guests Christian and John for a well received return set, with Kevin filming them covering Death Sentence's "Live To Die", The Lewd's "Suburban Prodigy", and playing their own "Evil God Hater", "Big Fuckin' Joints", and as embedded below, "Fat Lip". It's great to see Fist Magnet back (if only Chuck could be here for it!), and they delivered well on their original heyday's promise and attitude, so check these videos out as well, and hopefully they and The Spigots return again!

Curiously, the closing band here was active local crossover thrash band Hails, in what turned out to be their last concert with founding guitarist Mikhal Muto. Kevin filmed their cover of The Almighty Trigger Happy's "Meathook" (as seen on "Punk Canada Vol. 4") and two songs from their self-titled album, namely "The Drifter" and (as embedded below) "Pink Clouds Of Density" Ending things on a faster and heavier note, Ha!ls were on form from their prior 2025 gigs here, and they definitely fit the theme of the night, as frontman Brenton Ellis got his local music start in the 1990s punk scene, so check out their Soo Blaster videos above & below!

The Last Hard Rock/Punk Weekend Concert Previews For 2025!!

I hope everyone had a good and peaceful Christmas, and that Santa Claus brought you some good presents! On this Boxing Day, we have previews of this weekend's relatively quiet but eventful slate of concerts, partially because today is a holiday, so here's what you should know for the weekend! (Updated on Saturday at 10:31 AM)

We'll start with this weekend's main event, and as the holidays often see local homecomings, why not throw it back for a special reunion of 1990s local punk bands TOMORROW at Soo Blaster?! This special concert will be an Algoma Regional Community Hospice fundraiser in honour of late Fist Magnet guitarist Chuck Ayotte (who passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2018), and to that end, Fist Magnet will be reuniting for their first show in well over two decades tomorrow night! According to co-promoter Christian Foisy on Messenger last night, singer Garry Ingram, bassist Andrew Marson, and drummer Dave Stokes will be joined by Christian and his former Destroilet bandmate John Conway for this one-off set. Very cool for fans of the 1990s punk scene, and for a mini-Destroilet reunion guesting!

Also playing tomorrow is a reunion of The Spigots, who will be represented by singer Trevor Harding & bassist Frank Guidocco alongside Inner City Surfers bandmates Dave Bahun and Mikey Hawdon as guest guitarist and drummer (this may be why I've seen this band named "Some Spigots" in some postings). Incomplete reunion or not, this will be huge for punk fans of the era! Despite the stature of the reunions, neither is headlining tomorrow's concert, as active crossover thrash quartet Hails will close things at some point from 11:15 PM onward (Fist Magnet are at 10:30 PM, The Spigots at 9:45 PM). Debuting local punk band P.R.O.D. (short for "punk rock overdose") will take the stage at 9:00 PM, and thanks to Christian for confirming that this band will feature him, John, and Andrew from the Fist Magnet reunion alongside Gambit/ex-Northwest drummer Clint Wilson (he did not say who will be on lead vocals). Christian confirmed on the Facebook event page last week that the planned Room 206 reunion has been dropped from this concert due to "unforeseen circumstances", though Dave will still be present tomorrow via playing with "some Spigots". Replacing them are online page-less local metal quintet The Sault Side Squad, who will open the proceedings at 8:00 PM. This licensed and ALL AGES concert goes down tomorrow night at 8:00, and admission is $15 in advance at The Rad Zone, the venue, or via those credited on the event page, or $20 at the door. Next up, Bullet Train/ex-Sense of Truth frontman Cory Murchison will bring his sporadically seen acoustic hard rock show back to the stage TOMORROW NIGHT at The Water Tower Pub when he opens for the latest reunion of local/South Korea jam rock supergroup Odd Man Out! Every so often, fans will be able to see the former Skeyes of Seven vocalist (sometimes billed as "Cory Daniel") playing unplugged shows in town, usually as a support act, with tomorrow's concert being a direct reprise of the time that he opened for O.M.O. at the same venue in July 2018. Always good to see Cory on stage, and hopefully he sets the tone well at The Water Tower Pub tomorrow! Odd Man Out (featuring Cory's old Sense of Truth bandmate Steve Myers) don't play live all that often despite never breaking up, with this being the de facto release party for their new album "Quadranium" from last summer. Not a heavier band, but a very talented one who deliver entertaining and fun live concerts with solid musicianship, so keep their return in mind!

This concert also takes place at 8:00 PM tomorrow, it is presumably a 19+ event, and there is no cover charge. December 27th, 2025 is definitely shaping up to be a big day for local band reunions, but if your tastes lean more to jam rock with a hard rock chaser, head to this central venue for tomorrow's action! Finally for this weekend's known hard rock concert previews, local acoustic classic/hard rock solo musician Tym Morrison has a busy post-Christmas weekend ahead, as he will be playing a matinee concert at Misty's Fifties TOMORROW before serving as the Sunday matinee performer at Beck's Bar on SUNDAY! With his planned Eagles Club concert on New Year's Eve seemingly cancelled, these will be the former Caveman Morrison frontman's final public concerts of 2025, ending a very busy year as usual for this talented local music veteran. I'm sure he has a lot more bookings lined up for 2026 already, so stay tuned for confirmation of those when dates begin going public! As usual for Tym, tomorrow's show at Misty's is a 4:00 PM matinee, while the Beck's matinee concerts on weekends begin at 3:00 PM, Sunday included. LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Fist Magnet, Tarnished, And Quite Frankly!!)

This Saturday afternoon post is devoted to new LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS, ll with a seasonal and/or charitable flourish, so here's what you should know on both sides of the border!

Reunited local classic/hard rock cover quartet Quite Frankly will play their first public concert in 15 years on Friday, October 24th, but not in Sault Ste. Marie. Rather, they'll be making the hour's drive east to Bruce Mines to play a special Down Syndrome awareness fundraiser concert at Kosmos Pizza there! The restaurant and their Thessalon sister location are both hosting fundraisers that weekend (Thessalon's is the following day), with a goal of raising $5,000 for Down Syndrome Awareness Month. Despite implying that they'd be pulling double duty on the Thessalon branch's Facebook page, Quite Frankly bassist Harley Syrette confirmed with me that they are only playing in Bruce Mines on the 24th, though regardless, Thessalon is outside of our coverage range. Either way, kudos to Haley, Frank, Harley, and Joe for rocking out for a wonderful cause in two weeks, and if you're up for a drive or live east of the Soo, keep these two gigs in mind to show your support!

Kosmos Pizza is located in downtown Bruce Mines right along Highway 17, located in front of The Bavarian Inn and just past the turnoff for Cunningham Street, so it's extremely hard to miss it. The concert on the 24th will begin at 6:00 PM, there are no stated age limits, and while a cover charge isn't advertised, obviously consider donating to the cause and/or buying something to eat/drink while there. Next up, add another Halloween concert onto the schedule, as Sault Michigan classic metal/hard rock quartet Tarnished will return to The Driftwood Sports Bar in St. Ignace for that venue's Halloween party on Friday, October 31st! The fourth time this year that Alex, Josh, Chris, and Ron have played at 590 North State Street, this will be Tarnished's first show of any kind since their trifecta of St. Ignace shows during the Richard Crane Memorial Truck Show last month, with one of those also being at The Driftwood. For the spooky festivities in three weeks, fans can expect a costume contest with a best prize award and hourly prize giveaways, plus "thrilling music, haunted vibes, and dancing till dawn". Maybe you can dance until dawn, but the concert proper is blocked from 9:30 PM-1:00 AM, with a 21+ age limit and no announced cover charge. Tarnished should be in strong rocking form for Halloween night, so see the above links for more details on this concert!

Finally for this all-new concert post, we have a huge show for the holiday season for fans of the 1990s Sault Ontario punk scene, as three big names from that era will reunite on Saturday, December 27th at Soo Blaster! The headliners are a reunion of Fist Magnet, the hardcore punk band featuring future Gatgas frontman Garry Ingram that were a local staple in the early-mid 1990s, as typified by Destroilet's covers of theirs throughout their run. The show will actually be an ARCH Hospice fundraiser in memory of late Fist Magnet guitarist Chuck Ayotte, who lost his battle with pancreatic cancer in 2018, and while I'm surprised it's taken this long to do a tribute concert, it will be a blast seeing Fist Magnet back after Christmas! No word on how their lineup will look beyond Garry though. Skate punk quartet Room 206 will return to Soo Blaster for their second gig of 2025 here, after headlining drummer Allan Watson's public stag & doe concert at the same venue in April.

Who would have guessed that Mike, Dave, Brad, and Al would play twice this year after a two decade+ layoff? Given the circumstances, I'll still treat this is as a one-off gig, but it would be neat to see Room 206 do more in 2026! In one more throwback to the Windsor Park era and the Going Underground book, fellow 1990s punk band The Spigots will play their first public concert in decades here, and while media from their heyday is understandably slight (is their cassette online at all?), their song "Beer Goggles" from a compilation CD is on YouTube. No word on how their lineup will look (click here to see some former members), but if you were around in the 1990s at local punk shows, The Spigots' reunion will add to things well! Local openers will include the debuting P.R.O.D. (short for "punk rock overdose"), a new band from former Destroilet guitarist Christian Foisy. Good to see him back out there!

We don't know much on P.R.O.D. yet, and as best as I can tell, their only online presence is via this Soundcloud page, which features three original songs. More punk based than Detroilet but with good attitude and catchy riffs from what I heard, and it'll be interesting to learn more on P.R.O.D. when things go public! Local crossover thrash quartet Hails (whose frontman Brenton Ellis started out in the local scene in the mid-late 1990s) will open the proceedings on December 27th, so don't bypass them either! This licsenced (sic) and all ages concert will have doors opening at 7:00 PM, and admission will be $15 in advance or $20 at the door, so send a message to Christian, his old Destroilet bandmate John Conway, or Room 206 drummer Mikey Hawdon (the credited promoters on the Facebook event page) if you want to send an e-transfer for an advance ticket early.

The high school yearbook-themed poster says that they'll only be on sale at The Rad Zone, contradicting the event page description. If you were at all into the local punk scene in the mid-1990s, this will be a must-attend show on December 27th, and with the holiday season still in effect, when else will you be able to attract so many familiar faces back home to do something like this? I'm about a decade behind the curve for local scene eras, but I know how important these three bands were back then and beyond, so don't miss out on what will be a huge concert at year's end! LOCAL CONCERT ALERT (NoXcape), The Alcoholic White Trash Preview, And Much More!!

Hey guys, I have a stacked news post today to help round out the month of July, so we have a departure in a local metal band, updates to one of our monthly feature series, more assorted news, and a preview of a big concert taking place tomorrow night, but first, here's a LOCAL CONCERT ALERT for a recently renamed new local band! Remember the new Sault Michigan metal band MK-Ultra (featuring former members of Absolute & Riot! By Night) that we've been mentioning here and there this year? Well, they're finally making their live debut next month, and with a new name to go with it! The band announced on their Facebook page on Wednesday night that they've changed their name to NoXcape (pronounced "no escape"), launching a new Facebook page to go along with it. It's bare at the moment, but what we do know is that NoXcape will make their live concert debut on Saturday at Dan's Place on South Tilson Road in nearby Rudyard, Michigan! The show will be at 9:00 PM with no announced cover charge and a 21+ age limit. Nice to see them finally debuting, especially with an improved name, but I wonder how they'll sound and look at the show next weekend? We know singer Nick Landreville, guitarist Ben Huyck, and bassist Bill Spence will be there to lay down some nu metal influenced originals, but we still haven't heard official word on their drummer or possible second guitarist, just that the drummer's first name is Justin (Lawless from Absolute?) Still, it's nice to see NoXcape on a local stage finally! Check the above links for more details, and I'll keep you guys posted! Next up, here's a concert preview for a concert taking place tomorrow night, and if you love hardcore punk and metal, you'll wanna be at this one! Two touring hardcore punk bands from Victoria, British Columbia will hit The Roosevelt Hotel's stage tomorrow night, including headliners Alcoholic White Trash and "gnar rockers" Lesbian Fist Magnet! They'll bring lots of crossover thrash goodness to The Rosie tomorrow, and I have a feeling you guys will really enjoy them! Two local openers are in store as well, those being local cello punk trio RedD Monkey and extreme metal quintet Winkstinger, who are both solid choices for this type of concert! Remember, this show was originally scheduled for The Canadian Nightclub as an all ages show, but with the massive flooding there two weeks ago, the show had to be moved, so kudos to The Rosie for having it now! However, this show is NOT all ages anymore, and now has a later start time of 10:00 PM, but the $5 cover remains the same. For more details, visit the official Facebook event page! Sounds like a great show despite the venue change, and hopefully there's tons of punk and metal fans in attendance tomorrow to enjoy the high energy music in store! For a preview, here's Alcoholic White Trash rocking a Vancouver stage in July 2008! Thirdly today, it looks like local death metal band Unleash The Blackened Sky have parted ways with singer Steve Rhodes. No official statements have been made as to his departure, but his official Twitter page says his band is "none at the moment", and a recent posting on his personal Facebook page says that he's not "in a show playing band anymore". Seems pretty definitive that he's left the band in some fashion, and with no real band page updates in almost a month, this could be all the proof we get. Steve is the third member of their original "Bring The Blood" lineup to leave the band in their brief two month existence, following the departures of Kory Derasp & Dan Souliere. I don't know why Steve left Unleash The Blackened Sky, but it is disappointing, as he was a solid death growler and left a good mark in the local scene this year, particularly during State of Misery's half year run! His two shows with U.T.B.S. (as Bring The Misery) were works in progress, but the band had promise, and hopefully they come back soon with a full lineup again! Best of luck to Steve though, his growling talent would be an asset for bands looking for a death metal singer! Stay tuned for updates from Unleash The Blackened Sky as I hear them! Now, here's a few assorted shorter stories from the last little while. As usual, these are in alphabetical order by band or company name.

• I've regrettably moved internet rock radio station Energy Rock Radio into our "Other Local Metal Links" because, at least right now, they're no longer based in Sault Ontario. Owner Ryan Kaarlela moved to Castlegar, British Columbia earlier this year and bases the station from there currently. The station still rocks though, definitely listen to it (as I still do), but it's not really "local" at the moment. Best of luck to Ryan out west though, I've heard positive things from him since the move!
• Local hard rockers Half Past are now selling official t-shirts! I believe they're black with their current logo on the front. They're $20 in sizes S-XXL and women's sizes M-L, and can now be purchased at The Rad Zone, directly from guitarist Alain Fletcher at this location, or at their concerts, presumably starting at Hempfest in two weeks. Nice to hear, I should pick one up one of these days!
• I'm badly late with this, but defunct Sault Michigan hard rockers Nixxon Dixxon have an official Facebook page that I only just recently found! It was launched and briefly maintained last spring before falling out of use, so there isn't much there beyond bio information and photos, but become a fan anyway and show your support!

And finally, I've made some more edits to make some of our Defunct Local Band Profiles more current and accurate, so here's what's newly changed in this monthly feature series! Both the AtrophiA and White Knights profiles have had minor edits to reflect the name changes of bands that members were later in (Bring The Blood to Bring The Misery & Motion Carried to Redundant.) I edited Life's Eclipse's profile to reflect that their drummer's name is Casey Amo, now that frontman Jason Mills confirmed that they can now publically say who their drummer is. I made a minor addition to Bad Side's profile to note that former drummer Mike Vollman is now in a local Christian rock band named Seeking Reverence (also featuring Intrepid bassist Mitch Goetz.) Here's a video of them covering a Kutless song, which isn't a bad rendition! Interesting news, I wouldn't have assumed this would be their current band, but hey, kudos for following their faith! Finally, I've made a minor addition to Out Of The Mouth Of Babes' profile to note that they recorded "Take A Walk With Me" at idioRECORDS here in town with producer (and For July frontman) Dave Hunter. LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Sneaky Pete & Alcoholic White Trash), A New Local Solo Artist, And Much More!!

Well guys, here's a new news post as we start clearing out the cache of news from during my recent computer issue breaks. Sadly, I may have to ship it to HP next week for a complete motherboard replacement (the RAM doesn't appear to be at fault), but I'll try and get as much news as I can in beforehand. So today, we have a concert cancellation, news on what's happening at a concert on Sunday, this week's classic video, and starting things off, TWO LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS, so here's what you need to know!

Local hard rock quartet Sneaky Pete are returning to the site of their debut for their next concert, which will be on July 16th (one week from tomorrow) at The Rockstar Bar! Kinda short notice for an official online announcement, but the LED marquee board at The Rockstar Bar was advertising the show preliminarily as well, in case you saw it there. This show comes two weeks after their most recent stops at The Roosevelt Hotel for their first full weekend set, and according to The Rockstar Bar's event poster, this show falls on "Community Night", which is likely a reference to that day's Rotaryfest Community Day Parade. The show, which is just a one nighter next weekend, will be at 10:30 PM, there's no announced cover charge (bring cash though, I expect there will be one), and you must be 19 to attend. Also on the new show front, an ALL AGES concert is coming to The Canadian Nightclub on August 1st, believe it or not! After an almost two month absence, local punk concert booker Typhoid Meaghan has a nice punk/metal package coming to The Canadian that evening, including two headlining bands from Victoria, British Columbia! One is crossover punk/metal quartet Alcoholic White Trash, and the other is "gnar rock" quintet Lesbian Fist Magnet, and if you like female punk singers, they'll be right up your alley, and they have some VERY heavy and fast songs to boot, I'm really digging them especially! Two local bands will open, one being cello punk trio RedD Monkey, and the other slot is to be announced. I'll of course let you know more as it comes out on that! I will repeat: THIS IS AN ALL AGES SHOW, don't be fooled by the fact it's at a nightclub! There will also be a $5 cover, and it all starts at 9:30 PM on August 1st, which is three weeks from Monday. ...speaking of all ages shows, you know what other upcoming concert at a bar has eschewed age limits? The Fatality/Immersed metal show THIS SUNDAY! We're previewing the show tomorrow, but there's a lot to be said before then, so here's what you should know! The show has been moved from The Canadian to The Roosevelt Hotel due to a slow reply for venue confirmation, and because of the scheduled karaoke night at The Rosie on Sunday, the doors for the concert will open at 3:00 PM. Early, but metal sounds just as good no matter what time of day! The show is in fact all ages, the first such show Dismembertainment have booked (not counting Rich Moreland's shows before starting the company), and as such, minors will have to pay a raised cover charge of $7 (19+ attendees are $5), with a no tolerance policy for minors caught drinking or drunk. If you're 18 or younger and under the influence, you will be immediately ejected from The Rosie and you will NOT be refunded your cover charge, so if you're going and not 19, abide by the rules and have a legal fun time! As for the opening bands, there will be three local openers, including local death metal quintet The Bear Hunters, and just three days off of the last Thursday metal night, Desbarats' own For All That Is Lost & prominent local hardcore band As It Stands! Solid opener choices, they'll be sure to tear it up before the headliners melt our faces!

This is gonna be awesome, and who knows, with the early start time, maybe I can finally have one of the lauded Rosie burgers for supper? Now to a concert cancellation, as Half Past's planned return show later this month at The Rockstar Bar has officially been cancelled. The show, which would have been their first show in 5 months and their debut with new frontman Jordan Rains, was scheduled for July 23rd, but was cancelled due to the postponement of the Gunz N' FN' Rosez show, which was quietly moved from last night to July 23rd itself recently, creating a schedule conflict. The band confirmed the news on their Facebook page Wednesday evening, though later confirmed that they were still on for Hempfest and had two other dates in the works. This does suck, as I know Half Past had a lot of preparation and hype for their big return, especially when they were bumped from the July 23rd date for a newer show when they had that day booked already. But in all fairness, GNFNR would probably be more of a "name" to casual fans, where Half Past have been very absent from the stage in the last 18 months, so I can see why the decision may have been made. Still, Half Past will be back soon, and hopefully I'll be there to see them upon their return, cause they're a very talented band with a lot of promise and plans to show off! I'll keep you guys posted!

And finally, here is this week's classic video! Later than I'd like, but remember, I've had a lot of computer problems this week, it hasn't been my first thought. We featured a video by this band at this venue from the same filmer in February, but with their show on Saturday, it made sense to feature them again, so how about That's Chester this week as well? This video comes from Carol Kainula, who filmed the band at a few shows at Docks Riverfront Grill around late 2009 and early 2010, including this one of the band covering Jet's "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" at a show circa August 2009! The audio's not bad, but the video is a bit worse than the Deep Purple cover I posted in February. Lower resolution, and the vantage point isn't as well pointed at the band, but you do get views of some dancers! The band sound good, and Greg Simpson's making the most of his range to get higher on the chorus!
