LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Hells Bells, Original Song Contest, And Halloween Party), And More Concert Previews!!

Before we begin today's post, one of this weekend's concerts was quietly cancelled, namely tomorrow's Deathsticks-headlined show at The New American Pub. Promoters confirmed on the Facebook event page last week that the Whitby garage punk duo can't make the trip due to work obligations, which is disappointing, but hopefully Deathsticks can come here in the future, and that we see the debuts of local openers Dark Garfunkel and Sleeping Together elsewhere! Now, here's three LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (one for TOMORROW) and the rest of the weekend's concert previews!

Tidal Records' previously announced songwriters competition goes down TOMORROW NIGHT at LopLops Lounge, and yes, some hard rock and punk artists are performing! Apologies for the short notice, the lineup was first publically announced last week, though it has since been updated. Though this isn't considered a "battle of the bands", 10 local musicians (largely singer/guitarists) will convene at LopLops TOMORROW to compete to have an original song recorded with Tidal Records head Dustin Jones, Lake Effect frontman Frank Deresti, and Case's Music owner Jay Case at Dustin's own Mission Control Studios, including a digital release package, and the option to have studio musicians back them up if so desired. Performers will include hard rock and punk band alumni Justin Langlois (Redundant), Ed Vowels (Lucky 13), Cory Murchison (Skeyes of Seven), Andrew Pucci (Stereo North), and Jim O'Leary (ex-Griphook), alongside Nathan Albidone (Thin Ice), Jacob Quarrell (Shit Creek Survivor), and solo artists Tyler Moreau, Jenna Bannister, and Amanda Ridley, while Greg Callaghan (Northwest) is no longer listed as competing for unannounced reasons.

Nice roster of performers, including some unfamiliar faces, and it will be interesting to see who all plays what! Maybe some artists will break out new originals for their current bands, or resurrect songs we haven't heard in a long while? Each artist will apparently play two original songs and a cover song TOMORROW, with a $5 cover charge in effect for attendees of this 19+ event, which presumably has a 9:00 PM-ish start time, though I'm not sure about who all is judging or if there are runner-up prizes. Given the competitive nature, we won't feature a preview video here, but best of luck to all performers TOMORROW, and don't miss out for some diverse acoustic original music at LopLops!

Next up, and also in the realm of Tidal Records, promoter J.D. Pearce is hosting his 12th annual Halloween Party concert at The Algonquin Pub on Saturday, October 29th! Returning to The Algonquin Hotel's downstairs bar for the fourth time in five years, this year's Halloween bash will see an all-local lineup for just the second time since the Halloween Party left Coch's Corner in 2012, while the event is taking on a tribute band theme for a second straight year. The announced headliners are Hey, What About Us?!, a one-off tribute to Me First & The Gimme Gimmes, the punk band best known for covers of decidedly un-punk songs. Though their lineup isn't publically listed, promoter J.D. Pearce is their apparent frontman, marking his return as an official performer after not fully fronting a band last year. We'll let you know if their full lineup is announced! Local hard rock quartet Eclipse will join in as well on the 29th as "SSM of a Down", obviously covering System of a Down songs.

The advertised openers are funk/hard rock quartet The Elements, who will trade last year's Sublime tribute set for a general 1990s rock tribute this year under the moniker "The Plaid Martens". Solid lineup once again, and you've got to love the concept of Hey, What About Us?! doing a covers-only set of a covers-only band! A $5 cover charge is in effect for this year's 19+ concert, which will start at around 10:00 PM, and of course, bring your costumes, and expect a costume contest of some description! This should be another fun night of Halloween punk and hard rock action, so keep it in mind for in two weeks time, and visit the official Facebook event page for updates!

Lastly in new concert announcements, The Rockstar Bar will welcome back Barrie-based AC/DC tribute band Hells Bells for a headlining concert on Saturday, November 12th! Last seen at the same venue almost one year ago, this concert is basically a make-up date for Hells Bells' cancelled local date in May (Project 421 replaced them on late notice), and while I'm still not 100% sure what happened in the spring, it's great to see Hells Bells back with their brand of high voltage rock n' roll next month! AC/DC fans are sure to appreciate their faithful sounding and looking tribute to the hard rock legends, so circle this one on your calendars! Possibly because of the cancellation and delay, advance tickets are now $10 rather than $12 in May, though the admission fee will jump to $15 at the door, so get your tickets at The Algonquin Hotel's front desk to save $5! This is a 19+ event, and while an oddly early 7:00 PM start time is listed, expect it to be more like 10:00 PM. Visit the official Facebook event page for more details!

We'll close today with the weekend's remaining hard rock concert preview, including the local debuts of two Sudbury hard rock bands at The Rockstar Bar TOMORROW NIGHT, including headlining rock quartet The Blackwood Sinners and alternative rock quartet Vintage Slang! Fans of bluesy hard rock should take to The Blackwood Sinners, who have had a steadily rising profile in the Sudbury area since debuting, and their effective originals should draw a solid response in their local debut tomorrow, so be sure to check them out! Vintage Slang (replacing fellow Sudbury rockers The Fortunate Losers) will provide a nice compliment to kick off this concert, having established themselves in the Sudbury rock scene in recent months by winning this year's Q92 Rock Rumble, and their diverse influences should carry them to a quality set as well tomorrow! A local band is announced on the Facebook event page, but they have not been publically confirmed, if even still planned to play. This 19+ concert has a 9:00 PM door opening time and $7 cover charge.

It's great to see more Sudbury bands playing in Sault Ste. Marie (we don't see enough bands from there making the trip west), and both bands should deliver a solid dose of hard rock for fans at The Rockstar Bar, so check the above links for more details, and here's The Blackwood Sinners live!

LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Stiffler's Mom & Project 906) And Most Weekend Concert Previews!!

Another weekend of concerts is upon us, so let's kick off this weekend's hard rock concert previews with most of the currently announced shows in the area! This isn't a quiet weekend, so we're holding our previews of Saturday's Blackwood Sinners and Deathsticks shows for TOMORROW's post, alongside any late notice gigs that come our way. Now, here's what you need to know, starting with LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS, two of which are SHORT NOTICE!

Local party hard rock trio Stiffler's Mom will return to The Rockstar Bar for one night only TOMORROW NIGHT! Apologies for the short notice, the band only announced the show via their Facebook page on Tuesday. A one-nighter due to Saturday's Blackwood Sinners concert (which is being previewed in tomorrow's SMS post), this will mark Stiffler's Mom's first publically announced concert in over a month, so if you missed Greg, Mike, and Jon in September, be at The Rockstar Bar TOMORROW for their high energy covers! Also newly announced is a rare Stiffler's Mom solo concert with advance notice, as they'll provide the musical entertainment for "Halloween at The Tech" on Saturday, October 29th, which is a seasonal event to benefit the former St. Mary's College's athletic programs. A haunted hallway, contests, prizes, and some sort of mystery "unveiling" will be among the night's entertainment, so definitely keep this event in mind for a Halloween weekend attraction!

No word on ticket prices for this 19+ event as of this writing, but there are advance tickets on sale starting today at The Tech. An 8:00 PM start time is advertised, and while the concert proper will presumably be held in The W.W. Baldwin Auditorium, this isn't publically confirmed. As for TOMORROW'S Rockstar Bar show, expect a 10:30 PM-ish start time, 19+ age limit, and no cover. Stiffler's Mom are staying busy this month, and they should have a solid show TOMORROW & over the Halloween weekend, so see above for more details, and here they are live!



Next up, Sault Michigan hard/blues rock quartet Project 906 will return to the stage THIS SATURDAY NIGHT when they return to the Back Bay Grill & Games at Bay Mills Resort & Casino in Brimley for one night only! Again, apologies for the short notice, the band only announced the show via their Facebook event page on Tuesday. Despite announcing last month that they were taking "a short break" due to new or expecting fathers within their ranks, Project 906 are back sooner than that news implied, which is great news for fans, especially after guitarist Joe Jenkins' old band Exiled never returned from their baby-related hiatus! THIS SATURDAY'S show will mark Project 906's first show at Bay Mills' waterfront bar since April, and they should be in fine form with their entertaining hard rock covers, so don't miss out! This 21+ show in Brimley has no announced cover charge and a 10:00 PM start time, so see above for more details, and here's Project 906 live earlier this year!

Moving to previously announced concerts, the long-term weekly concert arrangement at Gliss Steak & Seafood will march on for the prolific Tym Morrison, as he's scheduled to rock Gliss again TONIGHT, TOMORROW, and SATURDAY! This prolific veteran singer/guitarist will once again provide the music for the next three evenings at The Quality Inn's house restaurant, and if you're familiar with Tym's extensive local music work, you'll know that hard rock covers should play a big part in his large setlist this weekend, as usual! As usual for his frequent weekly appearances at the downtown restaurant, these three matinees are at 6:00 PM, and while none have an announced cover charge or age limit, remember where these shows are taking place. Finally for this concert preview post, Winnipeg pop punk trio Mulligrub will make their local concert debut at The Gore Street Cafe TOMORROW NIGHT! Making their second stop of their "Fall Outta Love" tour of Eastern Canada, this 2/3rds female power trio should leave a solid impression on fans with their indie punk originals, and much like Iansucks last week at the laundromat, they should give a nice sampling of the Winnipeg scene for local fans tomorrow! Local support will come via an acoustic set from The Din, albeit sans drummer Brandan Glew, who is apparently missing tomorrow's show due to work commitments. However, Mike & Tammy will soldier on with a rare duo set, and expect many of their fan favourite originals in an acoustic setting, which isn't a foreign concept if you're familiar with the band! As usual for concerts at The Gore Street Cafe, this ALL AGES concert will take place tomorrow at 7:00 PM, and admission is under their typical "pay what you can" model. Castle Concert Video Showcase, Plus An Album Teaser Clip!!

Today's post is mostly devoted to some new videos from a recent concert that prolific local concert filmer Chris Paci uploaded to his YouTube channel earlier this week, but we also have an overdue album teaser video to round things out! We'll start with Chris' footage, which comes from September 28th's Castle-headlined concert at 180 Projects, though no word on why it took two weeks to post the videos online. He also filmed videos at last week's Moon Tan show at The New A, but we'll save those to feature in an upcoming post. Chris posted six videos online, 4 of which coming from the headliners' set, with the Juno-nominated San Fransisco doom metal trio featured playing their songs "Temple of the Lost", "Blacklands", their set-closer "Total Betrayal", and as embedded below, two songs played in succession, namely "Down In The Cauldron Bog" & "Black Widow". For reference, 180 Projects did not appear to make use of their projection screens at this concert.

Solidly performed by this dark and powerful trio, albeit with muffled vocals and a somewhat barren-looking setup for the stage, but fans of Castle's occult-flavoured doom metal will be right at home! I wish I could have attended this show, but we had family visiting from out of town that night. Check our Chris' Castle videos above and below!



Chris' other videos from this show come from the local openers, with one each being uploaded from their sets. One is of local doom metal trio AlgomA playing most of their song "Electric Fence" from their vinyl split EP with Chronobot, albeit filmed from a corner angle rather than in front of the band like with the Castle clips. Fans headbanging can get in the way, but the vocals come through clearer on this Boyd-sung original, and AlgomA fans will definitely want to see the devastation below!



The other video from this concert comes from new local funk/improv hard rock band Gianni Gagoots, marking the first public footage of them performing, so what do we know now? First off, the band has added a second guitarist, namely Boatload Killers/Sailor's Tongue alum Liam Seymour, who has the comedic Italian stage name "Blanci Mangia-Cake". Nice pick-up, Liam's a solid musician with a diverse range of genres under his belt, and he previously had enlisted Gianni Gagoots drummer Frank McCormick for his solo set at Rotaryfest as well! Also, we can now 100% confirm that percussionist "Bergio The IceBurg" (a.k.a. "Enzo Scanganatts") is indeed an actual band member, though I can't confirm his actual identity as of this writing. If you like your hard rock with conga drums, prepare yourself! This video indicates that Gianni Gagoots are an instrumental band with no microphones in sight, which is locally unique, even without accounting for their sound.

This uniquely named quintet have fun in this clip, which showcases an improvised jam hard rock sound, with funk and punk influences radiating through the song (title unclear, if they do even their songs.) It'll be interesting to see what Gianni Gagoots do next, as they definitely stand out among current local hard rock bands, but check out their 7+ minute video below, and stay tuned for more on them, perhaps including if we can confirm Bergio's full identity!



Finally for today, here's an admittedly overdue teaser video for local post-punk quartet Gnaeus' debut CD "Meditations"! Posted to their Facebook page on August 9th to promote it's then-new release and online outlets through which you could buy it, it features some brief audio samples from the album and some neat effects to phase in the eye-less Pompey of Rome logo, but after 25 seconds, the video runs with just a blank screen for almost 5 minutes. Accident, or an intentional opportunity to meditate? Debate amongs yourselves, but apologies for the delay in featuring this on the site, check it out below, and do buy "Meditations" on iTunes and/or Amazon!

Defunct Local Band Profile Series: Brain Tuel

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! Today, we have this month's Defunct Local Band Profile, where we're again looking at 1-3 defunct or inactive local metal, hard rock, or punk bands (one this month), in order to spotlight them and their run for current readers! This month's random selection is ironically fitting, given that they posthumously uploaded a new Facebook video last week, but they're a missed fixutre of the local punk scene, so read on below for our newest Defunct Profile!

Audio/Video: Brain Tuel released three albums in the latter half of their run, including 2006's "Adeline Ave.", 2007's "Black & White", and 2008's acoustic EP "Stuck in Small Places". All are now out of print, but they can be streamed on Spotify & via bassist Mark Schildroth's YouTube channel, and bought from online download stores. For videos, guitarist Zach Reid's YouTube channel has 12 Brain Tuel videos (all but two coming from their last advertised concert), while their MySpace page has 5 earlier clips, and their Facebook page has at least one unique video. Here's Brain Tuel playing "Here's Looking at You, Kid" live at The Oddfellows Hall ca. 2005!

Info/Analysis: Formed in 2001 by then high school classmates, Brain Tuel soon became a fixture at local concerts, though surviving information on their early run is in short supply. Opening for notable out of town acts like Faber Drive, The Imports, and The Johnsons during their run, the band was frequently seen at The Oddfellows Hall, while also playing venues like LopLops Lounge, the Kiwanis Community Theater, and The Bellevue Park Bandshell over the years. Though nominally a punk band, Brain Tuel didn't stick to the typical punk tropes, and peppered their high energy sound with alt-rock influences, hardcore backing vocals, and an occasional hard rock flavour. Last visibly playing live at an acoustic show in May 2009 at The Arcadia Coffeehouse, Brain Tuel fell inactive later that year, and members largely now live out of town, but they have stated that they hope to record at least one more album, and their Facebook page is still occasionally updated.

While their albums' production could be a little inconsistent, Brain Tuel had a fun live sound and they'd still fit in nicely in today's local scene (imagine them on stage with Gnaeus and Id Iota, for example.) The band has said that they hope to stay together forever, which is an encouraging sign that we'll see Brain Tuel again, and hopefully they do come back down the road!

LOCAL CONCERT ALERT (Mourning Wood), And New Video Postings!!

On this Saturday afternoon, we're mostly touching on some new video uploads from a selection of local bands, both alive and defunct, and both from Ontario and Michigan! To start, though, we have a SHORT NOTICE LOCAL CONCERT ALERT and related apology, so here's what you need to know!

Local classic/hard rock cover quartet Mourning Wood will return to The Esquire Club TONIGHT, after having played there last night as well! Apologies for the short notice (and for missing last night's concerts on here), we only heard about the shows late last night via drummer Glen Thomas' personal Facebook page, as the band never promoted these shows publically. Making their first concert appearances since last week's well received turn as backing musicians for Mark Tarantini's Garth Brooks tribute, yesterday and TONIGHT's shows mark Mourning Wood's first Esquire Club stops in over a month. Their varied and often heavy blend of covers should attract a good crowd to the west end venue TONIGHT, as I'm sure it did last night, so make sure to have some requests in mind! Expect a 10:00 PM-ish start time, no announced cover charge, and a 19+ age limit.

Despite the lack of public notice (lately, they've only done that for Reggie's Place gigs), Mourning Wood put on a solid live show, so don't miss out TONIGHT, and apologies again for missing yesterday's concert on here, we'd have covered it in our weekend concert previews had we known about it beforehand! Next up, here's the latest "Cover of the Month" from local alternative/hard rock trio The Din! After a two month hiatus for the series while The Din launched their debut studio album, the newest cover video was uploaded to their YouTube channel on Tuesday, and it's their rendition of The Beatles' "With A Little Help From My Friends". Rather than an in-studio recording, this actually comes from a private concert that The Din played at the Quattro Hotel & Conference Center (formerly the Ramada Hotel & Best Western on Great Northern Road), though the band didn't offer public details on the event's purpose. Featuring guitarist Tammy Hill on acoustic guitar and drummer Brandan Glew on what appears to be a cajon (a box shaped percussion instrument that's often sat on), this is a fun cover that plays to the band's unplugged side well, and you can see more of that when The Din (sans Brandan) open for Mulligrub on Friday! Check it out below!



Also today, here's a surprise new archive video posting from defunct local alt-punk quintet Brain Tuel! Though inactive since 2009, the band has sporadically updated their Facebook page since, and on Thursday, they shared an Oddfellows Hall concert video there in their first posting since April of last year. Great timing, if ironically so, considering that we're profiling them in our next Defunct Local Band Profile on Monday! The video is only dated to the summer of 2006, so I can't verify which show this came from, but it features Brain Tuel playing their song "Black & White", which was the closing & title track of their second CD from the following year. Filmed on a stationary camera mounted on stage, it gives a unique angle of the guys in action, albeit without capturing drummer Marc-Andre Parent in view at all. This is a solid performance of one of Brain Tuel's more progressive originals, which even inserts some screamed backing vocals into the mix, and it should be a nice flashback to fans from their 2000s heyday!

Guitarist Zach Reid apparently has more videos from this concert, so hopefully he shares them and/or gives some more details on this event, but regardless, it's nice to see a defunct local band sharing some posthumous media! More bands should do that, it sure beats when bands delete their online pages and media after dissolving. Finally, here's a short new video from Sault Michigan classic/hard rock cover quartet Highway 63! We didn't feature this when we previewed their shows at The Rapids Lounge (including TONIGHT'S) in Thursday's second post, as it actually doesn't have audio. Shared to their Facebook page via bassist Chris Leask last month, this is a 2 minute slideshow of band photos with the meme photo-esque caption "Rockin' with Highway 63". It's well put together, but the lack of even one live song is unfortunate, and only 7 pictures are used, with the photos snaking forwards and backwards until it ends. Still a fun clip for fans, so check it out below!

LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Bret Michaels, Norilsk, And Mulligrub), And Highway 63 Concert Previews!!

We have another packed news post for your Thursday evening, so it's better we get this up now before we let things get too delayed like in this morning's preview post! Today, we have our last of the currently announced weekend concert previews, and first, some LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS on both sides of the border, including a major Sault Michigan announcement for next month, so here's what you need to know!

Winnipeg pop punk trio Mulligrub will make their local concert debut on Friday, October 14th (one week from tomorrow) when they headline at The Gore Street Cafe! The second Winnipeg act in as many weekends to rock the laundromat (joining indie pop duo Iansucks on Saturday), this is the second stop on the 2/3rds-female outfit's "Fall Outta Love" tour of Eastern Canada, and Mulligrub's lively indie-influenced punk sound should attract positive interest next week, so don't bypass them for some pop punk action! The local openers will be most of local alternative/hard rock trio The Din, with Mike Haggith and Tammy Hill playing an acoustic set to kick off the evening's festivities! No word on why Brandan Glew will be absent, but The Din are no strangers to the cafe, and have played acoustic sets here in the past, so they'll fit in fine! As usual for Gore Street Cafe events, this is a "pay-what-you-can" ALL AGES concert with a 7:00 PM start time. Pop punk and alternative fans should pay attention to this concert, so visit the official Facebook event page for more details!

Next up, we can finally call the previously teased Norilsk-headlined concert on Friday, October 28th on here, as promoters have confirmed that it will be held at The Oddfellows Hall! Yes, the Gatineau, Quebec doom metal quartet should devastate local metalheads with their dark and aggressive originals over the Halloween weekend, so come check them out and pick up a copy of Norilsk's new album "The Idea of North" as well! Local doom metal trio AlgomA will open this show, as previously announced, while the hinted second local openers slot will be filled by local death/thrash trio Pillory, in their first announced show since opening for Iskra in July. Arguably most intriguingly of all is the advertised inclusion of local death metal veterans The Bear Hunters as a surprise third local opener, especially as they haven't played since drummer Johnny Belanger's birthday show in May.

With that said, guitarist Mitch Sirie has indicated on the Facebook event page that they're merely "tentative" for this show due to work schedules and life, but we'll keep you posted on if they're confirmed or have to drop out! In any event, this Six, Two, Oh. promoted event is an ALL AGES concert with a 7:00 PM start time and $10 admission fee, but uniquely, you can save $3 if you bring a canned good donation, which is a nice gesture! No word though on if Halloween costumes are encouraged. This should be a brutal concert for local metalheads, complete with the possible return of The Bear Hunters, so stay tuned for updates when they roll in!

Also, Poison frontman Bret Michaels will make his long awaited return to The Dreammaker's Theater at the Sault Michigan Kewadin Casino on Saturday, November 5th! Making his (at least) sixth local concert appearance next month (joining prior Kewadin gigs in 2008, 2010, 2011, and 2014, and his Eastgate Hotel show in 2005), the hair metal legend will rock the Soo next month in what the venue is calling the "mega pre-party" before the casino celebrates it's 31st anniversary the following weekend. The concert itself will no doubt see Bret break out more of his classic Poison hits and more recent original songs, including some country-influenced material if you're familiar with his later solo career, so don't miss out when the voice of Poison returns to Kewadin Casino next month! It's been well over a year since the last major hard rock band (Theory of a Deadman) played at The Dreammaker's Theatre (even earlier for the last hair metal act, Europe), so kudos to Kewadin for ending this lengthy drought, and hopefully there's more coming!

Tickets for this ALL AGES, 8:00 PM event are $48.50 for general admission, $58.50 for "gold" seating (re: the front 6 rows on the outside sections and row 6 in the center), and $250 for VIP passes, which will get you a priority seat in the front 5 center rows and a meet & greet with Bret, while funds will go towards Bret Michaels' Life Rocks Foundation's charity drives. It's seemed like tribute bands had taken over The Dreammaker's Theater since last summer, but your Hair Scare fans should definitely circle November 5th on your calendars for Bret Michaels' long awaited return, so visit this link, 1-800-KEWADIN, or the in-person box office to get your tickets A.S.A.P.!

Finally, here's the last of our currently known weekend concert previews, as Sault Michigan classic/hard rock cover quartet Highway 63 are advertised to return to The Rapids Lounge at the aforementioned Soo Kewadin Casino branch TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT! Again, the band hasn't recently plugged these shows online, but earlier concert calendar announcements confirmed that they'll be back at this particular Kewadin lounge this weekend. This veteran cover outfit remain a fan favourite sight at local concerts, and they should be up to their usual standards this weekend, so make sure to consider checking out the Monkey's Uncle successors tomorrow and/or Saturday! LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Moon Tan, Project 421, Tym Morrison, And Telephone & Address), And Weekend Concert Previews!!

Another concert weekend is upon us, and due to a number of SHORT NOTICE LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (plus recent slow news stretches), this post is entirely devoted to weekend concert previews referencing concerts that hadn't been formally plugged on the site until now! Apologies abound here (especially for Project 421), but had we known about them earlier, we'd have covered them here earlier! That said, our preview of the previously announced Highway 63 shows in Sault Michigan is coming in our next post, in order to spread things out. Now, here's what you need to know for this weekend, and in one case, beyond!

Winnipeg progressive/funk rock trio Moon Tan will make their local concert debut TONIGHT when they rock The New American Pub! Apologies for the short notice, this was only announced locally via it's official Facebook event page on Friday, too soon to plug without a redundant similar write-up. Touring in support of their new EP "The Faceless Knight", Moon Tan have a very creative visual look (complete with moon phase-themed costumes) and technical prog rock originals, and they should leave a firm impression on local fans TONIGHT, so be sure to check them out, as they aren't a cookie cutter band by any stretch! Though the feature touring act, they are actually playing second TONIGHT, between headlining local alternative hard rock trio The Din (fresh off of the Bloody Diamonds show this past weekend) and funk/hard rock quartet The Elements to kick things off. Solid choices to compliment Moon Tan, so don't miss out TONIGHT!

I'm not entirely sure who is promoting this show (for reference, The Din alerted me to it), but it has a $5 cover charge, 19+ age limit, and 10:30 PM start time. This should be a fun way for Moon Tan to kick off their Canadian tour, so don't miss out on what should be a creative and funky night of hard rock TONIGHT at The New A, and here's Moon Tan live!



Next up, we'll add the month of October's concert slate for Caveman Morrison frontman Tym Morrison, as he will (in all likelihood) continue his long-term weekly concert arrangement at Gliss Steak & Seafood with solo headlining concerts TONIGHT, TOMORROW, and SATURDAY, plus the next three weekends (October 13th-15th, 20th-22nd, and 27th-29th!) Apologies for the short notice regarding this weekend's shows, we typically wait for Facebook confirmation of his solo shows in this lengthy run before adding another month's worth to the site. With his thrice-weekly schedule maintaining at The Quality Inn's house restaurant, fans can check out Tym's proven blend of acoustic hard rock hits this month, including TONIGHT, TOMORROW, and SATURDAY, so don't miss out if you're up for a more reserved night of classics! No word though on if the 27th-29th weekend will have any Halloween themes.

Also new for this weekend, local classic metal quintet Project 421 will return to the stage TOMORROW NIGHT for a headlining concert at The Rednecks Saloon! Profuse apologies for the short notice, this show was announced last Tuesday via it's Facebook event page, but in the midst of a slow news period last week, it got too delayed, hence why it's only getting wrote up here now. After taking a month off from the stage, this will be Project 421's first show since opening for Dumpster Mummy at The New A, their first Rednecks gig since June, and their first solo headlining concert since the spring, so if you want wall to wall classic metal favourites and select originals, head to the former Nicolet Tavern TOMORROW NIGHT! Just to clarify, there is no advertised opening band (not even Eclipse), so prepare for 421 all night! This show has no cover charge, a 19+ age limit, and a 10:00 PM start time, so visit the above links for more details, apologies again for the delay, and here's Project 421 live!



Finally for this concert preview post, local post-punk solo project Telephone & Address will return to the stage THIS SATURDAY NIGHT at The Gore Street Cafe when they open for Winnipeg indie pop quartet Iansucks in their local debut! Again, apologies for the short notice, this show was only just announced via it's Facebook event page on Tuesday, despite being the official CD release party for Telephone & Address' new album! No word on why this was announced with under a week's notice, but copies of Chris Shoust's fourth official solo CD "Are You Now or Have You Ever." (no "Been" at the end anymore) will officially go on sale on SATURDAY at the laundromat, so definitely consider a trip down to get your copies first! As for Iansucks, they're a somewhat gloomy yet poppy alt-rock outfit that should be a good fit at the cafe, so don't bypass them either if you're a genre fan! As is typical for The Gore Street Cafe, this is an ALL AGES, pay-what-you-can event, with an advertised 7:00 PM start time.

For those curious about the album, the above photo is a mockup of the front cover (based on this picture Chris shared on the event page), and it looks to be packaged similarly to his prior 3 albums, which will also be on sale on SATURDAY. No word yet on online availability, prices, or full track listing, but for reference, last year's "Rust Orchid" was sold for $15, and was also launched with a concert at the same venue. We'll keep you posted, but consider making it out THIS SATURDAY for Iansucks & the acoustic punk action, and here's Telephone & Address live!
