LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Bone Yard 225), Hails Updates, And More!!

Before we get too far in today's news post, I wanted to update folks on memorials for the two local metal musicians that we lost last month. I normally wouldn't mention this without a public posting, but a tribute concert to late Brutally Fatal frontman/Far From Fine drummer Austin McCrea is in the works, and the family has asked his friend Taylor "Tea" Emlaw (Handsome Sandwich's singer) to put it on. She is currently looking for performers, so contact her via her personal Facebook page if you want in, and we'll let you know when formal public details go out! No sign of an obituary yet for him or Rebel Priest/Glass Statues guitarist Ben Kemp-Reynolds, but the surviving members of Rebel Priest are hosting an open memorial for Benny tomorrow at The Moose, the Vancouver bar that he worked at. I know that most SMS readers aren't in British Columbia, but in the event that you did know Ben, are out west, and want to pay tribute, keep this in mind!

An earlier post by Rebel Priest did say that they were working with Ben's family towards giving him the right sendoff, but I don't know if any public memorials in the Soo or Central Algoma are being planned, let alone ones that would involve music (note that Rebel Priest never played a show here). We'll keep you posted when anything extra comes out regarding Austin or Ben, and they are continually missed!

Now, today's post features some new videos and updates, starting with LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS, as local southern hard rock trio Bone Yard 225 have more shows ahead this month, all courtesy of their website's concert calendar! We already touched on TONIGHT's and TOMORROW'S short notice gigs at Beck's Bar on the site on Thursday, but "the dirty three" will be seen thrice more later this month, starting with their first Water Tower Pub show of 2026 on Friday, January 23rd! Even though electric bands routinely play at the Great Northern Road nightclub, Bone Yard always play there "uncorked", so if you prefer seeing their acoustic shows there, keep this one-nighter in mind! Their next regular plugged-in concerts after this weekend take place on January 30th and 31st, when they take over The Esquire Club for a full weekend, in their first stops there in over two months. Keep all three shows in mind if you love your local 225!

Neither venue has corroborated these late-January bookings on Facebook, but we'll let you know when either posts a 2026 concert calendar. The Water Tower Pub show is at 8:00 PM, the Esquire Club gigs are at 9:30 PM, and these are all 19+ affairs with no cover charges. See above for more details, but while we're on the subject, what else have the guys been up to lately? In a jokey video on their Facebook page from December 3rd, we see Greg and Alex "grinding", but let's just say it's not on a new song! The following day, bassist Warren Reville starred in this video reflecting on "the 225 life", which at that moment, amounted to being "in the studio finishing shit". It was taken in jest, but it's good to see work on new songs is ongoing! Frontman Greg Simpson also starred in two different vertical videos (linked here & here) to promote each of their last two shows of 2025 and reflect on each prior day's weather.

In terms of performance videos, we have more plugged-in concert videos of Bone Yard 225 to share, but let's pause for now with this clip from their "uncorked" gig at Beck's on December 14th, which was uniquely filmed during a lull in the matinee when Greg's battery died mid-set. While that was sorted out, Warren played an impromptu vocal/bass original song to narrate those proceedings. Fun way to fill time, and kudos to whoever filmed this clip, which you can watch below!

Let's close with the latest from local crossover thrash band Hails, and they started 2026 with some very surprising news, as they have parted ways with guitarist Mikhal Muto. A reason for his departure wasn't announced, but in yesterday's post about his exit on their Facebook page, they did call him a "guitar wizard" and they thanked him for helping them move forward in developing their sound, so things do seem amicable. Mikhal had been a key member of Ha!ls since their early 2023 debut, but he does have many irons in the fire as it is, with The Apocalypse Afterparty, his Agnosticism solo project, and his new ska punk band A.S.D.P. all being active concerns, so we'll be seeing lots of him ahead! No word yet on if Hails will be replacing Mikhal, but remember that they were a trio before his cousin Carmen joined the band in the spring of 2024, so they could easily move forward as one again. With all of that said, what else is new from them?

This slipped us by last month, but the long-teased physical release of Ha!ls' self-titled album is getting closer, with the band sharing this image on Facebook of a test pressing of the album on vinyl. No word yet on when copies go on sale, but it is encouraging to see them making full vinyl records! At one point, other formats were also teased (remember Brent's old projects getting DIY cassette tapes?), but no finite word on CD or tape copies yet. R.I.P. Ben Kemp-Reynolds (1990-2025)

The Sault Metal Scene would like to offer its deepest condolences to the family and friends of former local rock guitarist Ben Kemp-Reynolds, who suddenly passed away earlier today at the age of 35, as per numerous personal Facebook postings. Local readers may be best familiar with Ben's music work while attending Central Algoma Secondary School in the late 2000s, where he performed in CASS Cafe bands like The Diego Experience, The Dedbeats, and most notably, the 2008-2009 blues rock quartet The Glass Statues. Joining future Late & Loud bandmates Benn Garside and Josh Hatherley, The Glass Statues would play their first non-CASS gig at the YMCA Battle of the Bands at The Grand Theater in March 2009 (where they finished in third place), and they later played out in Thessalon, and were among the openers for The Road Hammers at Rotaryfest Stage 1 that July. The Glass Statues disbanded due to Ben's relocation to British Columbia for university the following month. 

Ben kept at it musically out west, where (as "Benny Blitz"), he joined Victoria glam metal band The Lust Boys in early 2010, though a planned homecoming gig with them in March 2012 at the former Canadian Nightclub did not take place due to their tour van breaking down 5 hours outside of town. The local openers, Late & Loud among them, played on though. Alas, Ben never got to bring any of his B.C. bands home for concerts, but he remained in The Lust Boys until they broke up in 2014, and he stayed musically active in the Vancouver area, where he and fellow Lust Boys alum Jayme Black formed the old school metal band Rebel Priest later that year. It's with Rebel Priest where Benny found the most success, releasing two studio albums and some other EPs and singles, and touring as far away as Japan on multiple occasions! Rebel Priest last played live at The Cobalt in Vancouver on November 21st. 

As "Benny Burn", he was also a guitarist in the Vancouver speed metal band Roadrash from 2017-2020, while Ben notably also worked as a bartender and live DJ. It was too easy to miss out on what Benny was up to in B.C. over the years, but he accomplished a lot as a musician there, and while our interactions were brief before he moved, he was always a good guy, and it's a shame to lose him so suddenly, especially just days after Christmas. If you haven't heard his three main bands since he moved, do check out The Lust Boys, Rebel Priest, and Roadrash, as there's some solid classic metal of varying flavours therein, and it'd be neat to see their original music get some well deserved Ontario and Michigan hits. I don't know if any services are planned yet in the Soo or Central Algoma, but we'll let you know when more comes out. Check on your friends, and please reach out if you're struggling. R.I.P. Benny!

LOCAL CONCERT ALERT (The Wyld Stallyns), A New Video, And Much More!!

Here's a new news post for your Saturday evening, and it includes some assorted recent updates, a new solo performance video, and leading off, a SHORT NOTICE LOCAL CONCERT ALERT and related news about said band's new look for a new year! Here's what you should know

Local cover hard rock band The Wyld Stallyns will rock Reggie's Place TONIGHT, after previously playing there last night! I profusely apologize for the short notice, we only heard about these dates yesterday via singer/guitarist Rob Speers' own advertising on Facebook, though I did completely miss the venue's Facebook page plugging the dates on Tuesday. I did plug both on our Facebook page yesterday to try and get some of the word out, but I didn't have quite enough topics to rush a post last night, hence why I am half late to the party today. Again, my apologies, I'd have plugged both on Thursday had I seen Reggie's own post about them! These dates are The Wyld Stallyns' first since Rotaryfest last month, and first at an indoor venue since they kicked off The Rockstar Bar's brief return of live concerts in August 2020. However, if you missed them at Rotaryfest, The Stallyns will look a little different.

 

For one, the group has quietly transformed from an acoustic band into an electric one, perhaps to make up for their plugged-in sister band The Elements' continued inactivity over the past 18 months. Going electric means they'll need a bassist, and The Wyld Stallyns debuted former Gully Yodelers bassist Ben Garcia as their fifth member at Rotaryfest. Bit of a surprise not seeing James White (the only Elements member not in The Stallyns) on bass, but don't miss him with Dealing Without when they finally make their live debut! Ben wasn't on The Gully Yodelers' "Innocence & Allegory" CD, but he was on their song from "Local Steel", and he is a talented bassist who should fill this role well with The Wyld Stallyns, so don't miss his third show with them TONIGHT! This show (and yesterday's) are/were 9:00 PM events with 19+ age limits and no cover charge, as usual for recent Reggie's concerts.

 

And as recently usual, please respect and honour any social distancing and mask mandates at the downtown Reggie's to ensure the safety of yourself and everyone else in attendance. Despite the late notice, hopefully The Wyld Stallyns had a great show last night, and hopefully Christina, Rob, Jesse, Ben, and Jonas have more of the same TONIGHT! Next up, here's a new video of former Garden of Bedlam singer Erik "Buzz" Boissineau covering The Foo Fighters' "Times Like These", as uploaded to his YouTube channel last night! An acoustic vocal/guitar cover as usual for his recent videos, this is strongly performed as you'd expect given Buzz's vocal abilities and talent level, and it fits in line with The Foos' own acoustic version of this song! Give it a watch below!

 

Finally for today, here's three assorted shorter news items from the last while, and as usual, these are in alphabetical order by artist or venue name:

 

• Prolific local extreme metal/folk punk musician Chase Wigmore has released twelve back catalog albums of his onto his Bandcamp page! Nothing is brand new, but these include prior albums under his own name plus Awokest, The Black Lodge Masters, and The Coyote Speedfreaks, and Chase did hint on his Facebook page last week that he was uploading "all of my albums" there. Does this mean that his increasingly large number of free-to-YouTube albums are going on sale at some point? Stay tuned!
• It looks like The Rednecks Saloon (formerly The Nicolet Tavern) closed at some point last year, despite their social media accounts never announcing it online. The 304 Albert Street West nightclub hasn't updated their social media accounts since 2017, we last reported on a show there when Chase Wigmore held a single release concert in September 2019, and Google lists the bar as "permanently closed". If true, it is sad to lose a familiar downtown venue like this, and Rednecks did host some strong concerts after it's 2013 rebranding. Hopefully the old staff is doing well nowadays!
• Young local garage/hard rock quartet The Uncanny Valley are the only heavier local band on the schedule for this year's virtual Fringe North International Theatre Festival over the August 19th weekend! It's being held on YouTube due to pandemic-related travel restrictions, given the event's heavy usage of buskers and performers from out of town. Click here to see the current performer lineup, and there are a few other identifiable local names. Even virtually, this should be strong exposure for The Uncanny Valley, so stay tuned for updates on how to watch their set!

LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Beaumont Avenue & The Apocalypse Afterparty) And Weekend Concert Previews!!

Hey guys, sorry I couldn't make it to the Endast show, more personal commitments for me got in the way. This has been a lost month in many respects given some of the bigger concerts that I've missed (i.e. Late & Loud's farewell, Das Bunkerfest, anything at The Rednecks Saloon), but things will quiet down for me on a personal level in the fall, and I WILL be at Soo Band Roulette on Saturday, no questions asked! Due to the length of this weekend concert preview post, we'll focus on Sault Michigan-area dates in our next post, so  for now, here's the heavier shows going down this weekend in Sault Ontario, starting with SHORT NOTICE LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS!!

Local hard rock quartet Beaumont Avenue (formerly The Suicide Kings) will return to the local stage TOMORROW for a one night only concert at The Rockstar Bar, though there may be a level of finality to this show. Apologies for the short notice, drummer Ben Boudreau only announced the gig on their Facebook page on Tuesday, where he revealed that this will be his last concert with the band "for a very long time", as he's moving to Hamilton for school commitments. This lines up with the band's drummer search to replace him for their Urawk live band karaoke series at The Rednecks Saloon, but what does this mean for Beaumont Avenue as an active band? According to the band's Facebook event page, this will be "the last guaranteed show" for Beaumont Avenue until next summer, though they will attempt to book gigs if Ben comes back home over weekends or holidays, which indicates that they are not replacing Ben in the band, or enlisting the next Urawk drummer for that purpose. Note as well that the Rockstar Bar's own Facebook event page is titled "Beaumont Avenue's Final Show", but don't worry, it likely won't be!

The show itself will be the guys' first since their Spanish road trip for the Rock 'N Roar festival, and it's a one-nighter due to Soo Band Roulette, which we're addressing next. Admission will likely be $5 for this 19+ show, and a 10:00 PM start time is in effect, so check the above links for more details! Definitely consider attending to send Ben off in style, and no matter how long he's away, his drum talents will be missed around here! Given that the band's not replacing Ben, it might be a while to see the guys live (unless you take in some Urawk karaoke), but we'll let you know when their next shows take place! Speaking of The Rockstar Bar, remember the Soo Band Roulette event taking place THIS SATURDAY where local musicians will be randomly paired up to play half hour sets, and then will be voted on by attendees to determine a winner? Well, we can officially add it to our concert listings now, as new local rap/metal duo The Apocalypse Afterparty will make their public concert debut during the event! They're among the entertainment playing between roulette bands, and while they have played some private gigs this month, this will be your first chance to see X & Z (plus their Smokin' Heroines supporters) in public confines! Among between-band performers, they'll be joined by DJ Seith, ex-As It Stands drummer John Mignacca's techno solo project Dillinger, and at least one open mic block hosted by Northwest guitarist Greg Callaghan, so keep their short sets in mind! Of course, this is "Soo Band Roulette", which is the main focus, so here's a rundown of what to expect!

Promoted by The Apocalypse Afterparty's Steve Mozarowski, signed up musicians (singers, guitarists, bassists, and drummers) are drawn at random each hour to make up an impromptu band that will then be sent to a secret location to decide on a band name and jam three cover tunes from a provided list (though original jams aren't outlawed.) Then, the band will be introduced and will play in front of fans, with a vote being held at night's end (likely closer to 2:00 AM) to determine the winning band, who will get a cash prize! Artists who sign up early on Saturday will have more chances to play, so keep that in mind as well. This 19+ event begins at 8:00 PM on Saturday night, so given the configuration of the event, I'd expect up to 6 random bands to be playing during the band roulette. Admission is $5 unless you're a drummer for the roulette, then you get in free, and click here for more details!

This is the closest we've seen to a battle of the bands in Sault Ontario so far in 2014, but the nature of it leaves a lot of unpredictability, and you should definitely check out Soo Band Roulette, as you never know what could occur! I've seen a lot of verbal confirmations and pondering from local artists, but I won't give names here as I want to preserve the random nature of the roulette. This should be an awesome and unique show, and hopefully it replicates the success similar events have had in other cities! I will definitely see you guys there on Saturday night, and for a preview of the between-band acts, here's The Apocalypse Afterparty live at Das Bunkerfest!


 

We'll close with a more central gig, as Caveman Morrison frontman Tym Morrison kicks off his 39th straight week of his ongoing arrangement with The Harp Bar & Grill with his usual hosted jam night TOMORROW! The last of his August dates at the former Madison's Pub, we do expect him to be back at The Harp in September too, but like usual, we take Tym's Harp shows a month at a time due to the immense length of listed bookings on his website. While his acoustic hard rock covers will be surely enjoyed as usual tomorrow in between potential jam performers, Tym was not listed for a Saturday gig this weekend for unannounced reasons, but remember that he has had some gigs in recent months called off for external bookings. Note as well that the calendar on his website does not list Saturdays at all for future weekends, or most past weekends, but it's unclear whether this is a giant mistake or if it's a reduction of his Harp series to it's old Friday-only format. We'll let you know if we hear anyhing!

Tym's show tonight will start at around 10:00 PM, you must be 19 to attend, and there's no announced cover charge. For more details, check the above links! I'll also note that Tym didn't create a Facebook event page for his shows at The Harp last weekend, but hopefully all's well with the series, as his acoustic covers have seemed to have done well over the past 9 months! A New Addition To Our Band Links, Frapperteterhead's Cassette, And More!!

Before we get into the meat of this post, we'll send our best wishes out to the guys in Beaumont Avenue (the former Suicide Kings) as they rock out in Spanish at this year's Rock 'N Roar Festival there, where they're opening for Randy Bachman and Honeymoon Suite! Show them what the Soo can do! Now, today's post features a new archive album upload, some assorted recent notes, and first, an overdue addition to our links and coverage, so here's what you need to know!

We're pleased to finally add local classic hard rock cover band Havadder to our full coverage at The Sault Metal Scene! I know this seems very overdue given their relative longevity in the area, but we held for so long due to prior concert indications not having a lot of heavier covers, though a recent show  that we'll touch on in a bit locked them in! Active off and on since at least April 2009 (and most recently reuniting last fall), Havadder's only constant member has been singer/guitarist Jason "Jugga" Roy, with their current lineup being rounded out by guitarist Jamie July, bassist Lucas Bugyra (who was Havadder's drummer early on), and Asylum Country drummer T.J. Case. Among other past members that I may be missing, Havadder's early lineups included the likes of guitarist Jason "Nez" Nisbet, bassists Daniel Horton (Haggith), and Lori Reinholtz (Mid Life Crysis), and drummer Dean Candido, while their 2011-2012 lineup featured the two Jasons alongside guitarist Robert Brown, bassist Travis Sharpe, and drummer Scott McLurg, during a stretch when all but Jason Nisbet were also members of Turner Up.

Best known from numerous weekend gigs at local bars (including a frequent stretch of shows at the former Foggy Notions in 2010 & 2011), Havadder have also played some larger multi-band events in the Soo, and notably played at two of the Rock N' Roar Battles of the Bands in Spanish (placing in 2012), though you're most likely to catch the band at The Rednecks Saloon (formerly The Nicolet Tavern), where the vast majority of their recent gigs have taken place. The band's newest concert videos come from that venue last weekend, where they played with two guest musicians (former bassist Travis Sharpe and Flat Stanley's Glen Thomas on drums) due to Lucas & T.J. being out of town. Glen shot a pile of drum cam videos from the shows and uploaded them to his YouTube channel this past week, including renditions of Sublime's "Santeria", Blake Shelton's "Boys Right Here", The Beastie Boys' "Fight For Your Right (To Party)", Ugly Kid Joe's "Everything About You", Beck's "Loser", Alice In Chains' "Man In The Box", and Temple of the Dog's "Hunger Strike", plus this 10 minute clip video!

Featuring 9 compiled clips of songs from the show, the covers (in order) include The Foo Fighters' "My Hero", Poison's "Every Rose Has It's Thorn", Alice In Chains' "No Excuses", The Tragically Hip's "Blow at High Dough", Poison's "Talk Dirty To Me", Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers' "Last Dance of Mary Jane", an instrumental clip that I can't place the name of, The Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band's "Blue On Black", and Green Day's "Brain Stew", so click each link to go to a specific song! Solidly performed, and Glen improvises well on songs he doesn't have a firm grasp of, so fans should give these a look, as Jason and crew have a solid sound that's fun to party along with, and they cover a wide and often heavy array of tunes! Next up, does anyone out there remember the defunct (and interestingly named) local metal band Frapperteterhead? Well, their self titled demo cassette was recently uploaded in full on YouTube! Posted by AlgomA bassist Kevin Campbell on his YouTube channel last week, it's a 25 song mixture of original songs and abbreviated covers of everyone from AC/DC & White Zombie to The Ramones and The Misfits, as originally recorded and released at some point in the mid-1990s. The band's lineup for most of the cassette includes singer Jason Anderson (who sadly passed away in 2003), relocated local guitarist Paul Melanson (now of the Alberta-based Metallica tribute Damage Inc.), a bassist nicknamed "Swartz", and a drummer named "Mr. Phibinger" (one of which is Jack Spades frontman J.D. Pearce's older brother Tom.) On the last 8 songs, Jason's the listed guitarist instead, with Frightlight guitarist Kevin Powe's younger brother Rick singing lead on them. How does Frapperteterhead's cassette hold up almost 20 years later? Not too bad, they have a solid aggression, and both Jay and Rick had strong vocals with punk tinges, but the covers can be rough around the edges. Finally, here's three assorted shorter news items from the last little while, and as usual, these are in alphabetical order by band or event name:

• Is Beaumont Avenue drummer Ben Boudreau leaving the band shortly? A Musicians Wanted Facebook group post by bassist Mitch Sirie on Thursday indicates that he's planning to move from the area for school, though the post is targeted towards replacing him in the former Suicide Kings' ongoing Urawk live karaoke series at The Rednecks Saloon, not the actual band. Time will tell what this means for Beaumont Avenue, but we'll have to see what happens, so message above if you're interested in at least joining Urawk, and best of luck today in Spanish!
• Though only quietly announced on it's Facebook event page and not visibly elsewhere, the second annual "Grinded Live In Your Ears" public house party show on Monday was cancelled due to weather and fatigue from that weekend's Das Bunkerfest in Garden River. The show will be rescheduled for "late this summer", so keep an eye out if you were hoping to attend and rock out with Blood Shed Productions artists!
• The aforementioned Mitch Sirie has confirmed that PaperClip Productions hard rock bands Haggith & The Revolution (formerly the second Brutaly Fatal) will be the openers for the Endast concert (also at The Rednecks Saloon) on August 27th! This will be both bands' debut at the old Nic, Haggith's 3rd show since reuniting, and The Revolution's first show since opening for Anciients in June. Nice diverse lineup, so don't miss this concert near the end of the month! Our source is the concert's Facebook event page.

CASS Cafe Metal Video Showcase (Part 3)

It's now time for our third of four CASS Cafe metal video showcases! After two solidly entertaining installments on Friday & Sunday, we've got a few more videos from Central Algoma Secondary School's student concert series to share, including a solo performance and three sets from collections of local musicians (including some familiar faces), so check these out below!

First, we'll head back to Durera guitarist A.J. Biron's YouTube channel for these next videos, which come from CASS Cafe sets circa December 2009, and the first one features three future members of For All That Is Lost (guitarist Brook Moreau, ex-guitarist Allen Piche, and drummer Kameron Nicholson) covering Lamb of God's "Laid To Rest"! For this performance, they were joined by fellow CASS alum Nathan Hache on vocals (I have no idea if he has any other band experience), and though his growling is patchy, he has the right aggression for the cover. The F.A.T.I.L. guys sound pretty good, though the song started a bit rough. Interesting rendition, but imagine how they'd sound now covering "Laid To Rest"? The other video from A.J.'s channel that we're sharing today features five notable musicians covering Megadeth's "Peace Sells"! The performers here include Allen once again (this time on drums) alongside future F.A.T.I.L. bandmate Tyler Sperry on vocals, Christopher Neveau (now of local death metal band March Into Regression) & A.J. on guitar, and Column Ruins bassist Travis Garside, but unlike the above video, this isn't of the highest musical quality. The video description mentions that the guys only practiced this the day before, and it sounds like it, with a number of flubs & timing issues, plus monotone singing (Tyler should have growled here), but the guitar isn't bad! This definitely does not capture these guys at their best, but there is some good stuff here & there, so if you want to check it out, do so below!



Finally, we have a pair of linked videos that are actually on two YouTube channels, those being the ones for CASS alumni Ben Kemp-Reynolds (of The Lust Boys & various local bands) and Ken Coventry, but there's no difference in the quality between the two. The first of these videos is of Benny Blitz himself joined by drummer Mike Christie (he of the drum solo we shared on Sunday) and bassist Will Hurley (likely a relation to Brent & Ty from Durera) for a joke-inspired "metal riffing extravaganza" named "The Andy Song". The lighting's poor (aside from the strobe effects), the audio's muffled occasionally, and the camera angle is odd, but this May 2008 CASS Cafe performance isn't bad, and there's a great liberal use of galloping guitar riffs throughout, so check out "The Andy Song" below!



The other video from this May 2008 CASS Cafe performance is a Metallica medley by just Ben & Mike (though Will introduced them and helped on vocals & bass briefly at different points.) Here, they played portions of "The Four Horsemen", "Motorbreath", "Fade To Black", and "Orion" (at least), and they seemed to know the different parts well, though it'd have been nice to have had Will on bass for more of the medley. The same camera issues from "The Andy Song" apply here as well, but if you can get past those, you'll find some solid Metallica jamming, so check out this video below!

As promised, here's this month's Saultites In Out Of Town Bands Profile! As we do each month, we're taking a look at a metal or hard rock band from out of town that features at least one former Sault Ste. Marie-area resident! This band is a newer find on my radar, but if you like your metal old school and a little glammed up, you should dig these guys, so let's get this profile going! (Updated on November 26th, 2014)

Local Info: The only former Sault Ste. Marie resident in The Lust Boys that I know of is guitarist Benny Blitz, who you'll likely better recognize under his real name Ben Kemp-Reynolds. A Sault Ontario native, Ben made waves in the area as a guitarist in the CASS Cafe-frequenting Dedbeats (videos here), followed by a short but memorable run in the local blues rock quartet The Glass Statues, who also featured Late & Loud members Benn Garside & Josh Hatherley in their lineup! In their 10 months together, The Glass Statues placed 3rd at the YMCA Battle of the Bands in March 2009 and also played at Rotaryfest that year before disbanding that August due to Ben's move to British Columbia. He's been there ever since, but you can catch him there bringing back his metal roots with The Lust Boys!

Band Bio: Originally a technical metal band named Lust, The Lust (or "Lus‡") Boys were formed by founding members Jayme Black & Tommy Thrust in 2006. Playing a 1980s inspired style of sleaze rock, the band has became a frequent & unique sight at British Columbia concerts, including headlining a yearly "Lustapalooza" concert in Victoria, releasing two CDs (including a 2012 full length album), and even filming an official music video for their song "Spred Yur Legz" in 2009. I believe Ben Kemp-Reynolds joined The Lust Boys in early 2010, taking on the "Benny Blitz" stage name shortly after. After major early 2013 lineup changes, the band continued to rock B.C. concert stages often since returning that June, but the band amicably broke up in February 2014, with Tommy & Stefano later forming the new hard rock band Hell Camino.

1980s inspired metal (hair or otherwise) always has a wide appeal, and The Lust Boys definitely deserve some of that attention! There isn't a lot of local bands to compare them to (maybe Dirty Virgin), but if you like bands like Motley Crue, you should really appreciate the sleaze that The Lust Boys bring to the table! Vocally, Jayme Black's harsher punk-edged vocals worked well, but from what I've heard of Tommy on vocals, he was a better fit for the glam metal side of things! High quality videos of their last lineup weren't easy to come by, but both Ben and Brian have the necessary guitar chops, and Ben even threw some bluesy influences into his material here and there! Very energetic sound overall, and aside from the vocal style, they'd fit right in with 1980s metal bands! Tommy Thrust's bass work also flowed really nicely, as does the drumming! Their old studio material is really good for this genre, so if you love yourself some 1980s sleazy rock n' roll, definitely give The Lust Boys a spin!

The Lust Boys have a decent amount of videos online, and you can check out many recent ones at their official YouTube channel, which also features their entire "Purple Leopard Print" EP for streaming. Their MySpace page has a cool unreleased demo track named "White Trash Superstar" as well, so give that a look, along with more audio tracks on their other pages! YouTube has many videos from their live concerts as well, along with their "Spred Yur Legz" music video, but for a somewhat recent look, here's one of the band playing their song "Wingin' It" in Victoria in 2011, so check it out below!
