Concert Cancellations, A Missed Show Apology, HeadFirst Concert Previews, And More!!

Before we begin this weekend's concert previews, just a heads up on a pair of cancelled concerts for this weekend. Firstly, local funk/hard rock cover band The Wyld Stallyns are not playing at Shooters Downstairs Lounge tomorrow, and have been replaced by local country cover band Tex Riviera & The Ride, as per updates to the Facebook event page (it wasn't deleted, it was just completely rebranded for a different group). A reason for The Stallyns' withdrawal was not announced, but hopefully nothing too serious happened, and that we see this talented sextet back soon! As well, the Just Leppard/Saturday Night Special concert at Soo Blaster on Saturday was also quietly cancelled, as per the Facebook event page & the deletion of its EventBrite page. As I recall, "unforeseen circumstances" were cited for the cancellation on the (now deleted) paid Facebook advertising. Shame to see, as Just Leppard went over well in prior local gigs!

Hopefully we'll get our Def Leppard and Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute fix again down the line, but alas, these cancellations wipe out most of this weekend's known hard rock concerts (November is always quiet after Halloween, but not this quiet, pandemic years aside!) Of course, we'll let you know if anything short notice or bypassed comes up.

This is a light concert weekend to be sure, so before getting too far ahead, I wanted to offer my profuse apologies for a concert that we missed covering on the SMS this past Saturday, at The Satisfied Frog in Sault Michigan, a venue that we haven't talked about in ages on here! I was told about it in e-mails by musicians affiliated with the concert, but between the busy Halloween season and personal commitments, it completely slipped through the cracks and I apologize again for that, especially as it was a rare multi-band show with touring acts in Sault Ste. Marie proper! The show featured sets from Grand Rapids/Muskegon hardcore punk band Cell Rush, Grand Rapids experimental/synth solo project Dick Texas, Escanaba indie/minimalist band The Hell Town Trio, Muskegon alt-punk band Ledhead, and a surprise reunion of online page-less local hard rock band The Karstens.

The show was promoted under the name Serious Business, with poster design credited to Lucid Pixels. Once again, I profusely apologize for not covering this show on the SMS, it's certainly not every day when touring bands (plural) play at a local concert, let alone one not affiliated with Kewadin Casino, but hopefully it was a hit and encourages more smaller touring bands to come to Sault Michigan, let alone play at The Satisfied Frog! It still surprises me that they don't really have a social media presence. If The Karstens, Serious Business, or The Satisfied Frog have more public material to announce, I hope to address it on time!

Now let's dive into known and publically advertised hard rock concerts in the Soo area this weekend.... all two of them, as new local classic/hard rock quintet HeadFirst will play their first ever public concerts TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT at Reggie's Place! The new group from ex-Raincourt guitarist Raine Rancourt and ex-Them drummer Anthony Boudreau, HeadFirst will bring their retro inspired brand of rock covers to this downtown staple this weekend, and it will be very interesting to see how things go for this group of talented rising musicians! If you can't make it this weekend, HeadFirst's third announced public gig will be at Toystock on November 26th. These two concerts have 19+ age limits, no cover charges, and 9:00 PM start times. Visit the official Facebook event page for more details, and for a preview, here's HeadFirst's ...first video of them in action!

That's surprisingly it for verifiable hard rock concerts currently advertised in the Twin Saults, but a familiar local band will actually be hitting the road next weekend for their first ever tour run! Local alternative hard rock quintet Handsome Sandwich will venture beyond the Algoma District for shows in Sudbury and Oshawa next week (each city is linked to the respective Facebook event page), before playing in Ottawa and Cornwall over the January 19th weekend, details forthcoming. The Sudbury show will actually have local relevance beyond the close-ish 4 hour drive to The Townehouse Tavern, as Jesse & Johnny's old Jack Spades bandmate Tiffany Stocco will open for them next Friday with her current punk band The Knuckle City Dusters. Good to see her still rocking out! The Sudbury show is a headlining gig, but the next night's concert at The Atria will be in support of Oshawa metal band Dead Silence.

To promote the upcoming tours, the band (minus the guitarists) appeared in this Facebook video on Monday, and with their song "Shiver" as background noise, the guys promoted the upcoming shows, pointing at the cities' rough locations on a map of the Great Lakes, and noted that official t-shirts & CDs will be on sale. Taylor also noted that they are looking for recommendations of the best sandwich (of course) in each city for them to try. Of course, good luck on the road next weekend, and see above for more details! I can't embed the video here due to Facebook flagging "Shiver" as copyrighted audio. That's all for today, but stay tuned for this month's Defunct Local Band Profile next! Thanks everyone!

LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Spun), Soundcheck Concert Preview, And More News & Notes

Here's our final news post of the year, so what will you find here? Big updates from a local punk band, some assorted recent news and notes, and a preview of the final hard rock show in the Soo this year, but first, here's LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS for next month!

Marquette hard rock cover quartet Spun will make their way to Sault Michigan for the first times in 2018 when they hit The Satisfied Frog again on Friday, January 26th & Saturday, January 27th! After a busy first year for the Nudge. successors both here and out west, Spun will be making their first Soo stops since rocking the same venue two weeks ago. This talented outfit have already became fast favourites for Frog patrons in the past year, and hopefully next month's shows are the first of many there for Spun in the new year! As usual for their local gigs, these concerts will take place at 9:00 PM both nights, you must be at least 21 years old to attend, and there are no announced cover charges. Spun' hard rock covers should be a great way to warm up next month, so keep these in mind for in four weeks' time, and visit the official Facebook event page for more details!

Next up, here's (surprisingly) our only hard rock concert preview for New Year's Eve, making this our last preview of 2017, as Sault Ontario classic/hard rock cover quartet Soundcheck will cap the year by headlining at The Esquire Club for their New Year's Party TONIGHT! This will be the Mourning Wood successors' first show at this west end venue in about a month and a half, and will also be the second time that they've played a New Year's Eve bash, doing the same at The Rednecks Saloon last year under their original moniker Nameus. (FYI, Obsession played The Esquire Club last year.) Given that this is a New Year's bash, expect frills like extra food and drink items and party favours and the like, as bars often go all out to ring in a new year, so mind that when you notice that the admission fee is $20. However, Soundcheck noted on their Facebook event page that admission includes your ride back home, and while I don't know specifics of that promotion, it's nice for those that need it after a night of partying!

As you might expect, this is a 19+ concert and a 9:30 PM start time is advertised. This should be a fun concert to end the year with, especially as it's your best bet for a hard rock show tonight in the area, so check the above links for more details, and hopefully some public videos of theirs turn up!

Also today, here's the latest from local punk rockers Redundant, who have been very quiet since their set-turned-solo performance at Rock 4 Autism in May, so what's new to report from their camp? First, they're expanding to a quartet, as they announced the addition of guitarist Yannick Casavant to their lineup via their Facebook page on Christmas Eve. I'm not overly familiar with Yannick musically, but I believe that he has band experience going way back, and hopefully he fits in nicely with Justin and the White brothers going forward! His local debut with Redundant is to be confirmed, but the guys made a huge announcement on Facebook the next day, as they've apparently been added to the lineup for the Vans Warped Tour's final stop in Toronto on July 17th! If The Rising Tide can play the long running punk festival tour, why not Redundant? I haven't seen a formal lineup announcement yet, but this will be a huge opportunity for the guys, and hopefully we hear much more from Redundant in 2018!

Finally for today, here's three assorted shorter news items from the last while, and as usual, these are in alphabetical order by artist, benefactor, or company name:

  • I have unfortunately deleted Eclipse frontman Curtis McKenzie's solo project from our active band links due to it's Facebook page being taken down at some point in the past few months, and I don't believe there is an alternate page elsewhere. This seems to imply that Curt has shuttered his 2017 solo activity, which is very disappointing, as his shows at The Vape Escape and elsewhere seemed to be going well! Hopefully we see him back out there (with or without Eclipse) in the near future!
  • A benefit concert has been announced to help local resident Joni Radford's battle with breast cancer, which will take place on Saturday, January 13th at The Canadian Nightclub. While a performer lineup hasn't been announced at press time, Jack Spades frontman J.D. Pearce commented on the Facebook event page that they have a "couple (of) rad bands so far." Stay tuned for updates on this benefit when bands are publically confirmed for it, and our best wishes are with Joni at this difficult time!
  • In an addendum to the drumkit dive incident during Stegadeth's set at the Guy Thiffault Memorial Concert on Wednesday, Live705's Facebook page has shared the multi-camera video of what happened, as filmed by Id Iota's Christian Lemay, presumably for future Shaw TV content. I won't embed the video here out of respect to the nature of what happened and to not single out anyone publically any more than social media already has, but Live705 have indicated that Case's Music and the person responsible have stepped up to help reimburse or replace broken gear. Hopefully things will move forward and upward into 2018!

That's all for now, but stay tuned for our retrospective post on everything that went down in the local metal, hard rock, and punk scenes in 2017 later today! Thanks everyone!

LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Spun & The Kariokeheads) And Most Of This Weekend's Concert Previews!!

Another weekend of concert previews is upon us, so what's going down for hard rock and punk fans over the next few nights? We have shows on both sides of the border to touch on today, including SHORT NOTICE LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS on each side, and if you're wondering about this weekend's Theatre of Night shows, we are holding them for tomorrow's post to give them proper emphasis given their advance notice, non-Friday placement, and overall scope. Don't worry, they are coming! Now, here's what you should know for this weekend's concerts!

Marquette hard rock cover quartet Spun will return to The Satisfied Frog in Sault Michigan for one more 2017 concert weekend TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT! Apologies for the short notice, these shows were announced late last month via their Facebook event page, but they bypassed us until this week. Coming three months after their last Frog stops, this fan favourite band should have more hard rocking covers ready to go TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT, so don't miss the Nudge successors one more time (or two) before the year's out! They'll be playing in Baraga and in Wisconsin to end the year, FYI, and we'll approach 2018 gigs when confirmed by Spun. TOMORROW & SATURDAY'S shows have 21+ age limits, 10:00 PM-ish start times, and no announced cover charges. Visit the above links for more details, and for a preview, here's Spun live!

Next up, here's one more new announcement, as new local acoustic hard rock duo The Kariokeheads will return to the stage THIS SATURDAY NIGHT at Room 21 above Low & Slow! Again, apologies for the short notice, this show was only announced via the official Facebook event page on Monday. As you may recall, The Kariokeheads (not Karaokeheads) was the name given on venue advertising when Elements bandmates Rob Speers & Jesse Cook played a special acoustic show there three weeks ago, but at the time, we called it as an Elements concert, as that band publically promoted it as if it was their own. Well, the venue is again advertising The Kariokeheads for SATURDAY, and the band hasn't plugged this one online at press time, so it looks like they're an official side project now (if they get an online page, we'll add them to our active band links!) Again, the theme here is acoustic covers, with attendees encouraged to sing karaoke with Rob & Jesse, so keep that angle in mind if you're planning to come out to the Albert Street West venue on SATURDAY!

Note as well that Rob's wife Christina is advertised to perform as a guest for one set on Saturday, and while I can't confirm what her role will be, note that she has stage experience. A one night only show due to tomorrow's traditional karaoke night at Room 21, SATURDAY'S show has a 10:00 PM start time, no cover charge, and a 19+ age limit. Visit the above links for more details, and hopefully some videos of The Kariokeheads turn up!

Also we'll cap off a quiet weekend for hard rock shows on this side of the border with these remaining shows, as acoustic hard rock singer/guitarist Tym Morrison will return to Gliss Steak & Seafood for three more matinee concerts TONIGHT, TOMORROW, and SATURDAY NIGHT! Concluding a busy run of nine evening restaurant gigs in a ten day span with these three shows, Tym will continue his ongoing weekly run of Gliss shows with another triple header of familiar hard rock covers at this downtown locale, so fans of his tried and true brand of unplugged rock should keep his latest Gliss engagements in mind for the next few days! As usual for this ongoing arrangement, expect 6:00 PM matinee start times, no announced cover charges, and no age limits, but keep in mind that this is still a formal sit-down restaurant. Visit the official Facebook event page for more details, and for a preview, here's Tym live a few years back!

Finally, we'll head back to the Eastern U.P. for today's remaining shows, starting with the final 2017 appearances from Traverse City, Michigan metal trio Scarkazm, as they'll be returning to The Northern Pines Lounge at the Kewadin Shores Casino in St. Ignace TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT! Two months removed from their last gigs at both regional Kewadin branches, this weekend's shows will be the last of 2017 for any project of Jeff & Adam's (including Peril), so if you want to check out their hard rocking covers and originals for the new year, head down to St. Ignace this weekend! Fans can witness this favourite touring outfit tomorrow and Saturday at 9:00 PM, these are 21+ concerts as usual, and there are no announced cover charges. Visit the above links for more details on Scarkazm's last call for the year, and here they are live!

That's all for today, but stay tuned for our Theatre of Night previews and more next! Thanks everyone!

LOCAL CONCERT ALERT (Spun), AlgomA/Shit Liver Split Details, And New Videos!!

Before we begin this post, we have a concert cancellation to acknowledge, as tonight's Nova Rex show at The Rockstar Bar is no longer taking place. The Florida hair metal headliners have reportedly dropped out of the show due to a band member falling ill, as per The Rockstar Bar's Hayley Warnock on the Facebook event page yesterday. Very disappointing, but hopefully Nova Rex play up here at some point in the future, this was shaping up to be a big event! Now, today's post features some new videos, and big album updates, but to lead off, here's a LOCAL CONCERT ALERT for next month!

Marquette cover hard rock quartet Spun will return to The Satisfied Frog in Sault Michigan for one night only on Friday, September 22nd! Two months removed from their last stops in our neck of the woods, the Nudge successors will be back in full force for another night of hard rocking classics for their E.U.P. fans, so circle September 22nd on your calendars to help ring in the fall season! This show is definitely advertised as being on Friday the 22nd only, no word on why they're not playing at The Frog on Saturday the 23rd, or if it's omission is accidental. Similarly to Spun's past Frog gigs, expect a 9:30 PM start time in three weeks, you must be 21 years old or greater to attend, and there is no announced cover charge. Visit the official Facebook event page and the above links for current details on this concert!

Next up, here's the latest updates on the upcoming split album from local metal trios AlgomA & Shit Liver, so what's new to say about "Trading Faces"? As per Shit Liver's Facebook page on Monday, the digital release of the split will take place on September 5th (THIS COMING TUESDAY) via both bands' respective Bandcamp pages, and while Shit Liver will also post their half on YouTube, they couldn't guarantee the same for AlgomA's half. The release date for the physical cassette tapes still appears to be two weeks later on September 17th, and they will be on sale during their Ontario/Montreal tour run next month (which ends at The New A on October 2nd) and online via AlgomA's label Deadbeat Media, though we await specifics on the release otherwise. As for the content, throw all assumptions about potential originals you had hoped to hear out the window, as this is a covers-only album! AlgomA are only doing songs by Dead Mouth and Kittens (they've played the latter live before), but expect these to be slow and sludgy!

Shit Liver will tackle songs by Leftover Crack, Macabre, Deicide, Antischism, and Dystopia, but one big twist here is that the two bands will also cover each other, with AlgomA covering "Fabricated Nonsense" and Shit Liver either including or re-recording their sped up grindcore version of "Fell Down A Well" from 2015. I didn't expect this to be a covers release, but it'll be very interesting to hear how this one turns out, so check the above links for full details and song names, and stay tuned for updates on the split's price and availability when it comes in, hopefully starting on Tuesday!

Closing today with new videos, here's a new live streamed clip from local hard rock quintet Skeyes of Seven's Facebook page from two weeks back! This video was intended as a promotional clip for their return set at the now cancelled Eye of Horus concert this past weekend, but the video is still relevant to share, as it's a performance of a new Skeyes of Seven original song, which I believe is entitled "Differences". The band's first video with their full current lineup (as recorded in their recent jam session locale), you'll hear a solid new original that fits with their existing original repertoire, and I'm sure it would have played well live, but hopefully we'll get a chance soon at another event! If only this wasn't filmed on a vertical camera angle, but it's still great to see a full five-piece Skeyes of Seven for the first time in 3 years, so give their new live video a look below, and stay tuned for more from their camp!

Finally for today, here's a new videos of Project 906 guitarist Joe Jenkins, as shared by Sault Michigan music store Crooked Music's Facebook page on Monday! Remember, Joe is their current guitar instructor. Originally posted to Joe's personal Facebook page, this features a test run of the Ashmun Street music store's most expensive guitar pedal while playing a Reverend Sensai 290 guitar, as recorded the day prior when the store was closed. This is a bit of an instructional or demonstrative clip with Joe talking to the camera about the gear, but he has some nice bluesy riffs to show off, so give it a look below, and don't miss Project 906 in Brimley this Saturday!

That's all for today, but stay tuned for weekend concert previews on the site next! Thanks everyone!

Rotaryfest Stage 1 & Sault Michigan Weekend Concert Previews!!

To stay ahead of things regarding this weekend's concert previews, we're doubling up on posts today, tackling shows taking place in Sault Michigan and for one stage of a major annual festival. If you're interested in previews of this weekend's Tym Morrison and (short notice) Soundcheck shows, or tonight's Downtown Street Party, check out this morning's post below, and if you're hoping for The Tea Party, Stage 2, Northwest/K.I.C.K., and Id Iota/ Mike Mikus previews, check back tomorrow! Now, let's continue this weekend's stacked concert previews!

This year's Rotaryfest began TODAY at Clergue Park in Sault Ontario, and that includes three days' worth of all-covers action on Stage 1, so what should you know about it's lineups this year? Unfortunately, this year's main stage lineup at our annual summer festival has noticeably fewer hard rock bands (partly due to That's Chester and Griphook falling inactive), and as a result, only tomorrow's lineup has bands whose genres fit our primary coverage. That said, many readers will be curious as to the full lineup, so here's who to look for tonight and Saturday! Tonight's schedule will be headlined by new Coverfly side project Encore, with country quartet Crossroad, local DJ Jeff MacNeice's Neil Diamond tribute band Hot April Night, classic rock veterans Flathead Ford, and blues/country mainstays The Algo Rhythms opening. Saturday night's lineup will actually be headlined by local country veterans Bone Yard, with Southern Ontario-based Keith Urban & Blue Rodeo tribute bands Ultimate Urban & Blue Radio playing featured sets prior.

Remaining local bands on Saturday will include R&B collective The Reptiles, blues rock standout Paul Dellavedova, Obsession frontwoman Valerie Powley's new Janis Joplin tribute band Janis Full Tilt!, 1960s-themed classic rockers The Peace Vibe, blues rock quintet Red & The Muscle, and improv jazz outfit The Jazz Cats. Solid lineup of local talent on these two nights, including many familiar and newer faces alike, and lots of tribute band action, so see the above links for more details, and click here for full set-times and band descriptions (or find your program from the mail!)

As for TOMORROW's lineup (expanded from 5 bands to 6 this year), tomorrow's music at the main Clergue Park stage will be bookended by some hard rock action, so who can you look out for? Your 10:30 PM headliners are hard/party rock cover trio Stiffler's Mom in their third Rotaryfest set in four years, and they should end things with a bang as usual tomorrow night! Classic rock veterans and Rotaryfest regulars Obsession will co-headline at 9:30 PM, as preceded by a special Garth Brooks tribute set by local country artist Mark Tarantini at 8:00 PM, similiarly to his tribute last year that the former Mourning Wood served as backing band for. Classic rock quintet Mustang Heart's 13(+?) year streak of Rotaryfest Stage 1 sets will continue at 7:00 PM tomorrow, while veteran blues rock quartet Five Below Zero will return to the festival at 6:00 PM. Finally, classic/hard rock cover quartet Soundcheck will open the evening's action in their Rotaryfest debut at 5:00 pm, shortly before they hit The Esquire Club.

All three days of entertainment on Stage 1 are FREE & ALL AGES as usual, so check the above links for full timeslot and additional information on this year's first stage! While those who complain about Stage 1's covers-only focus and regular bands may not be won over, there's still a lot of variety within their range, with many new bands, a lot of tributes, and for the first time since 2009, out-of-town country bands, so there should be lots of classic tunes this weekend! Of course, if you want hard rock, I recommend coming tomorrow night, but give this year's bands a look to learn what to expect, and here's Stiffler's Mom live at Rotaryfest 2014!

Next up, let's touch on Traverse City, Michigan metal trio Scarkazm's return to The Rapids Lounge at the Sault Michigan Kewadin Casino, as they'll return north for headlining shows TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT! Definitely Scarkazm shows after last month's confusion whether they or Peril were playing in the Soo over the June 15th weekend, these will be Adam, Dave, and Jeff's first collaborative shows in our area since headlining in St. Ignace in May, and first at The Rapids Lounge since April. Always great to see Scarkazm up north, so look for more heavy originals and covers this weekend! As usual for Scarkazm's local gigs, expect 9:00 PM start times, no announced cover charges, and 21+ age limits tomorrow and Saturday night. Scarkazm always deliver a solid night of hard hitting selections, so keep their return north in mind for this weekend, visit the official Facebook event pages linked here & here for more details, and here they are live!

Finally for today's previews, this weekend will see more out-of-town headlining action in Sault Michigan, as Marquette hard rock quartet Spun will return to The Satisfied Frog for shows TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT themselves! The Nudge successors will be making their third trip east on this busy concert weekend, and fans of their accessible and hard hitting covers should be out in full force at The Frog, so keep their local return in mind over the next two nights! As was the case during Spun's prior local bookings, expect 9:30 PM start times tomorrow & Saturday night, there are no announced cover charges, and you must be at least 21 years old to attend. Visit the official Facebook event page for more details on Spun's local gigs this weekend, and here they are live!

That's all for today, but stay tuned for our third weekend concert preview post of this extremely busy weekend next! Thanks everyone!

LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Spun & Dri Hiev), Plus New Videos!!

In the first news post of our second decade, we're splitting things between the border for some new videos and LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS for later this month! Here's what you need to know!

Marquette, Michigan hard rock quartet Spun will return to The Satisfied Frog in Sault Michigan on Friday, July 14th and Saturday, July 15th! Making their third trip east next weekend, the Nudge successors have proven to be similarly popular and talented in their first four gigs at The Frog, and here's hoping that Tim, the Bobs, and Doug deliver another pair of hard rocking nights of favourite songs in just over a week's time! No major frills for next weekend's shows otherwise, which have start times of 9:30 PM each and lack an announced cover charge, and as usual for E.U.P. concerts at bars, have an age limit of 21 years old and up. Also, just as a related reminder, former Nudge frontman Danzo McCracken's current 1990s rock cover band Reality Bites are playing at The Frog this weekend, so get details at this link, but as for Spun, click here for details on next week's shows, and don't miss out on all of the action at The Satisfied Frog for their return!

Next up, we'll head north to Sault Ontario for a concert at The Gore Street Cafe on Monday, July 31st that will be headlined by Calgary industrial punk trio Dri Hiev in their local concert debut! Presumably an intentional misspelling of "dry heave" moreso than a Dirty Rotten Imbeciles allusion, Dri Hiev are definitely not your average punk band, with their music sounding what happens when you have a noise punk band record an album in a hydraulic factory. How in the world will this fit at the laundromat? Be there at month's end to find out, but Dri Hiev are definitely worth a listen, as you won't hear this every day in the Soo! The local opener is acoustic punk solo project Telephone & Address in their first concert since Chris Shoust opened for Benj Rowland on short notice at the same venue in February. Nice to see Chris playing live again, his shows have been more infrequent lately, so keep this one in mind for later this month!

Note that Telephone & Address' newest album "Are You Now or Have You Ever Been..." will be on sale at the laundromat on the 31st, but unlike some of Chris' recent shows, this will not be a release party for his still-upcoming CD "Monster". As usual for Gore Street Cafe shows, this concert is a 7:00 PM ALL AGES concert, and while this is a "pay what you can" event as usual, a $10 entry donation is suggested. Check the official Facebook event page for more details on this unique punk show!

We'll close today with new videos, starting with the newest solo performance video from veteran local hard rock guitarist and Audiofumes podcast host Mike Cliffe! Inspired by Robin Trower's blues rock standard "Bridge of Sighs", this is an instrumental performance using the Rakkarak processor tio emulate a guitar pedalboard, and it's solidly done with a very bassy tone and effect, so give it a look below!

Finally for today, here's that other video from YouTube user spiritinthesky blue's YouTube channel filmed at last month's Jack Russell's Great White concert at the Kewadin Shores Casino in St. Ignace, Michigan! This is of the meet & greet after the show, visibly held indoors at the casino proper, and it's nice to see some candid footage of an event we don't typically see video of! Granted, it's a 27 second clip that largely showcases autograph seekers, but for those of us who don't buy VIP tickets or inquire about meet & greets at Kewadin, give this video a look!

That's all for today, but stay tuned for weekend concert previews on the site tomorrow! Thanks everyone!

LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (The 3 Day Millionaires & Tym Morrison), And Weekend Concert Previews!!

The summer months are now on, so let's begin June with another weekend of concert previews! To spread things out, especially given it's Sunday placement, we'll preview that night's Ruptured Birth concert in our next news post, which could come as early as tomorrow night, so don't worry, it's coming! Now, let's begin this weekend's previews with LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS, four of which being of the SHORT NOTICE variety!

With a new month upon us, we'll add former Caveman Morrison frontman Tym Morrison's slate of June solo concerts to our links, including Gliss Steak & Seafood matinees on each Friday & Saturday this month (including TOMORROW & SATURDAY), as well as a bonus nighttime return to The Roadhouse Bar & Grill TOMORROW NIGHT! Apologies for the short notice on this weekend's shows, they were only announced via their official Facebook event pages (linked here & here) on Sunday, and we wait for new monthly confirmations on Gliss shows before listing them anyway. As such, you can add weekly evening gigs at The Quality Inn's house restaurant for June 9th-10th, 16th-17th, 23rd-34th, and June 30th & July 1st to our calendar (alongside TOMORROW & SATURDAY), in what may be Tym's last month of double weekly bookings before adding Thursday nighters again, as has been the case the past couple of years, though we await confirmation.

Of course, these also include Tym's return to The Roadhouse on Trunk Road for the first time in four weeks, and fans of his nighttime gigs at a more typical venue will want to take notice TOMORROW NIGHT! For what it's worth, the event page for the Gliss shows was actually started through Tym's old band Caveman Morrison's Facebook group, but whether you want to read into that or not, the shows are definitely Tym solo. None of this month's shows have announced cover charges, and while the Gliss shows are at 6:00 PM with no announced age limit, TOMORROW'S Road House gig is at 10:00 PM and is 19+. Check the above links for more details, and here's Tym live!

Next up, local classic/hard rock cover quartet The 3 Day Millionaires will return to The Rockstar Bar for one night only THIS SATURDAY NIGHT! Apologies again for the short notice, this show was only announced via the official Facebook event page yesterday. Continuing their steady stream of roughly monthly gigs upstairs at The Algonquin Hotel, SATURDAY'S show will be The Millionaires' first there or anywhere in three weeks, and fans of their mixture of hard rocking covers should be right at home to kick off the summer months with them this weekend! Note that this is a one night only show, as The 3 Day Millionaires typically don't do double weekend bookings for one reason or another, though we can't confirm who's playing at The Rockstar Bar tomorrow at press time. SATURDAY NIGHT's show has a 19+ age limit, 10:30 PM start time, and no announced cover charge. Check the above links for more details, and here's The 3 Day Millionaires live!

Moving to previously announced concerts, let's take a hop, skip, and a jump to the E.U.P., starting with the return of Marquette hard rock quartet Spun to The Satisfied Frog in Sault Michigan TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT! Just under a month removed from their well received local debuts at The Frog, the Nudge successors are already back for another weekend full of high impact hard rock covers, so if you missed them last month or can't get enough, keep an eye out for Spun's second local concert weekend over the next two nights! No word yet though on their next Soo gigs, but we will keep you posted. As was the case last month, these shows have 21+ age limits, no announced cover charges, and 9:00 PM start times. Visit the official Facebook event page for more details, and here's Spun live!

Finally for today, Sault Michigan hard rock quartet 415E will return to The Northern Pines Lounge at the Kewadin Shores Casino in St. Ignace for shows TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT! Unusually playing for the second weekend in as many weeks (fresh off of Memorial Day weekend gigs in the Soo), 415E should be up to their usual tricks with another pair of high impact nights of covers, so don't miss Chris, the Hubbards, and Mitch over the coming days! In their Facebook page's post advertising these concerts, the band noted that this will "be the last time we play in St. Ignace for a while", a statement mirroring that of fellow locals Highway 63's indefinite leave from the Soo Kewadin branch. However, 415E don't have any other shows publically listed for even The Rapids Lounge in the rest of 2017, so are they going on a full hiatus, or are they playing elsewhere soon?  If we get confirmation, we'll let you know! In any event, expect 9:00 PM start times, no cover, and 21+ age limits this weekend. See above for more details, and here's 415E live!

That's all for today, but stay tuned for our Ruptured Birth preview and more on the site soon, plus this month's "Where Are The New Albums?" post tomorrow! Thanks everyone!

LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Spun & The 3 Day Millionaires) And Weekend Concert Previews!!

Another weekend of concert previews is upon us at the SMS, so let's cover all of that today, starting with LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS, one SHORT NOTICE, the others coming next month!

Local classic/hard rock cover quartet The 3 Day Millionaires will return to The Rockstar Bar for one night only TOMORROW NIGHT! Apologies for the short notice, the show was only announced via the venue's official Facebook event page on Sunday. Fresh off of their successful set at last week's Rock 4 Autism fundraiser, this will be their first stop at The Algonquin Hotel's upstairs bar in three weeks, and they should kick things up with their fan favourite covers once again, so keep their return in mind for TOMORROW! Note that this is a one nighter (as recently usual for The Millionaires) due to Saturday night's Obsession concert. You can take in The 3 Day Millionaires TOMORROW at around 10:30 PM, there is no announced cover charge, and you must be 19 or older to attend. For more details, check the above links, and for a preview, here's a new video to check out of The Millionaires!

Filmed by attendee Jessie Dawn at the aforementioned Rock 4 Autism event at The Canadian Nightclub and shared to the band's Facebook page on Sunday, this is of a much newer cover than you may expect, with the guys covering Kings of Leon's "Sex on Fire" in this 49 second clip. I'm not a fan of the original song, but The Millionaires handle it well and with enthusiasm, and it's a shame that the whole song wasn't filmed, as the quality and angle are both pretty good! Give it a look below, and see much more TOMORROW NIGHT at The Rockstar Bar!

Next up, here's a couple more new show announcements for next month, as Marquette, Michigan hard rock quartet Spun will return to The Satisfied Frog in Sault Michigan for concerts on Friday, June 2nd & Saturday, June 3rd! After a successful Soo debut last week, the Nudge successors have already booked a return weekend at The Frog for less than a month later, which is a good sign that fans welcomed Spun just as if Nudge never left! Their hard rocking covers should provide a solid kick-off to the summer months, so keep these shows in mind for three weeks from now! Like last week, these Spun shows are 21+ affairs with no announced cover charges and likely 9:00 PM start times. Visit the official Facebook event page for more details, and stay tuned for potential updates if they roll in!

Now let's tackle previously announced hard rock concerts for this weekend, as TOMORROW NIGHT is Live705's ambitious Soo Art Rocks! event at The Canadian Nightclub! Returning to The Canadian for the first time since their March Mash-Up, this concert will marry the promoters usual concert wheelhouse with live exhibitions by local artists and photographers, who will be on hand showcasing and selling their wares, and it will be very interesting to see how this angle is received tomorrow! The music lineup is Live705's largest yet, and includes a number of local bands playing one of their events for the first time, so who all is playing? In listed order, you'll see alternative/hard rock standouts Id Iota & The Din,  Live705's own punk mainstays A Dire Setback, debuting "drone/noise/psych" trio Pointless, newer alt-quartet Bizotic, death metal duo Them (in their first public concert set in over a year), Stereo North frontman Andrew Pucci's acoustic solo project, and unidentified performers from the Soo York City rap collective, likely including DJ Seith mixing the backing music.

Exhibiting artists will include former Lion Ride bassist Brenton Ellis, Aaron Knight, and photographers Josh Pace & Chandra Barnett, who have each done great concert shoots in the past. There's a little something for everyone, so don't miss out on all of this action! Admission is $10 (unless you have one of those $2 off vouchers attained from performers), this is a 19+ concert, a Josh Pace print is heavily implied to be a door prize, and the show will fittingly start at 7:05 PM. Soo Art Rocks! sounds like a great concert with a very unique pull that will be very interesting to see in action tomorrow, so check the Facebook event page for more details, and here's Id Iota live!

Finally for today, you can check out former Caveman Morrison frontman Tym Morrison as his long term arrangement at Gliss Steak & Seafood marches on for two more matinee shows TOMORROW & SATURDAY! This prolific veteran singer/guitarist continues to bring entertaining hard rock covers to the local stage each week, and this next set of shows should be no different, so if you're up for some supper-time acoustic hard rock favourites at this downtown restaurant, don't miss out on either night's action! Note that the Sault Music News Letter Facebook page advertises a Tym Morrison show tomorrow night at The Barrelhouse as well, much like his show there last week, but Tym has not publically acknowledged this apparent gig, so we won't call it here unless Tym or the venue does. At Gliss, expect 6:00 PM start times, no announced cover charges, and no age limits, so visit the official Facebook event page for more details, and here's Tym live!

That's all for today, but stay tuned for a new news post tomorrow, including extra Soo Art Rocks previews! Thanks everyone!

Sault Michigan & Rock 4 Autism Weekend Concert Previews!!

As promised, here's the rest of this weekend's hard rock concert previews, barring potential late notice confirmations! For this weekend's Sault Ontario hard rock events that aren't Saturday night only, check out our post from this morning, but here, we have one more Sault Ontario concert and this weekend's hard rock gigs in the E.U.P, so here's what you should know!

We'll start at The Satisfied Frog, where Marquette, Michigan hard rock quartet Spun will make their local concert debuts TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT! If Spun look familiar, then you're not wrong, as they are essentially the successors to defunct Frog regulars Nudge, who disbanded last fall after Danzo McCracken departed and formed Reality Bites. We've seen that band locally multiple times since, but this weekend will be your first local chance to see Tim Prisk, Bob Libick, Bob Crawford, and new guitarist Doug Pennala together under the Spun name. With a similar sound & range of covers in store, Nudge fans should be eager for this weekend's concerts! 9:00 PM start times are in effect for this weekend, you must be 21 or older to attend, and there are no announced cover charges. Visit the official Facebook event page for more details, and here's Spun live in Gwinn!

Next up, Traverse City metal trio Scarkazm will return to The Northern Pines Lounge at the Kewadin Shores Casino in St. Ignace TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT themselves! Two weeks removed from their involvement in the Soo Kewadin's "80's Hair Band Rock Fest", this will be Scarkazm's first concert weekend in St. Ignace in almost two months, and as far as I can tell, does not contain any special themes like they had last month. Adam, Dave, and Jeff should have a solid weekend of hard rocking covers and select originals in store for local fans when they head back north to St. Ignace over the next two nights, so don't miss out if you're a fan! They won't be back there until late July, after all. As usual for their local concert weekends, expect 9:00 PM start times, no announced cover, and 21+ age limits. Visit the official Facebook event pages linked here and here (yes, there's two) for more info!

Just as an aside, it looks like Scarkazm have replaced sister band Peril for the July 14th-15th concert weekend at the Sault Ste. Marie Kewadin Casino, as Scarkazm have launched Facebook event pages for those Rapids Lounge two shows (linked here & here.) A reason for the apparent band switch wasn't announced, but given that the two bands share two members, maybe Brooks Elliott has a scheduling conflict that weekend? Kewadin's entertainment page still lists Peril for that weekend, but unless they confirm otherwise,  keep these now-Scarkazm shows in mind for this summer, and as for this weekend's preview, here's Scarkazm live!

Rounding out a busy week on the hard rock spectrum in the E.U.P., Kinross classic/hard rock trio Banned will return to The Rapids Lounge at the Sault Michigan Kewadin Casino for concerts TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT! Last seen in Hessel last month, these will be the Traynors & Wayne's first shows in the Soo in almost two months, and their first since frontman Alex Traynor's recent uploads of material towards his solo project. Banned's skilled and wide ranging brand of covers should find another solid audience at the Soo Kewadin this weekend, so keep their return to this popular venue in mind! Note that Banned are not currently scheduled for any more Kewadin Casino gigs at either branch for the remainder of 2017, but there are open weekends at both lounges, so don't panic just yet. As usual for Banned's Kewadin gigs, expect 9:00 PM start times, no announced cover charges, and 21+ age limits. Visit the official Facebook event page for details, and here's Banned live!

Finally for this weekend's previews, we'll head north to Sault Ontario for Rock 4 Autism, a special fundraiser concert at The Canadian Nightclub THIS SATURDAY NIGHT, where three local bands will join forces to help kick off this year's kick-off event for the fifth annual Algoma Ride For Autism motorcycle rally next month! Proceeds from the concert will go towards the Algoma Autism Foundation's Sensory Lending Library, while pre-registration for the rally will also be taking place, so keep these great charitable causes in mind! The announced headliners are local country rock cover quartet and past Ride performers Bone Yard, but the varied lineup does dip into SMS territory via the inclusion of veteran punk trio Redundant and classic/hard rock cover quartet The 3 Day Millionaires. Redundant are a very fitting choice, given that they've played at the Ride for Autism's Family Fun Day for three years running, and it'll be nice to see The Millionaires in their Canadian debut as well!

An early start time of 8:00 PM is in effect for this 19+ event, and admission is $10 at the door or via advance purchase at The Canadian Motor Hotel's front desk, and you can also get pledge forms and t-shirts for the Algoma Ride For Autism on Saturday too. Sounds like a great event for a great purpose, and hopefully this is a good starting point for the ride proper on June 13th! Visit the official Facebook event page for more details, and here's Redundant live!

That's all for today, but stay tuned for more news and notes on the site tomorrow! Thanks everyone!

LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Spun), An Inactive Band Note, And New Videos!!

Before we post our review of last night's Live705 Easter Bash, here's a new news post for your Easter Sunday, as we tackle some recent topics and discoveries in the local metal, hard rock, and punk scenes! Today, you'll find a recent concert teaser clip, a Wayne's World homage for a great cause, and a reluctant band move to our inactive links, but first, here's LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS for next month!

Marquette hard rock quartet Spun will make their local concert debuts with shows at The Satisfied Frog in Sault Michigan on Friday, May 5th & Saturday, May 6th! In case you're not aware, Spun are basically the successors to fellow Marquette rockers Nudge, who frequented The Frog during their decade-long run, and it's great to see Tim Prisk, Bob Libick, and Bob Crawford back together on a local stage! As best as I can tell, Tim is the band's primary lead singer, with Doug Pennala enlisted as their second guitarist in place of ex-Nudge frontman Danzo McCracken. Nudge fans will be right at home with Spun, whose setlist and genre ranges are very similar, and they should fit in fine at The Frog next month, hopefully the first of many shows to come out east! You can take in Spun on May 5th & 6th at 9:00 PM, there are no announced cover charges, and you must be 21 or older to attend. Visit the official Facebook event page for more details, and check out Spun above to hear what's in store for their first local stops!

Just as a related reminder, Danzo and ex-Nudge drummer Tim Kusmirek have since launched a new band named Reality Bites that play 1990s rock covers, though not as hard rock-focused as what Nudge or Spun play. Reality Bites are actually releasing an original CD soon, and have played here multiple times since launching, including at The Frog and at Kewadin Casino lounges. Keep Reality Bites in mind to see what Danzo and Tim are up to!

Next up, we have a band to soon move to our inactive band links, they being Sault Ontario punk/country quintet The Billy Bastards. Public updates last came to their Facebook page one year ago this coming Tuesday in a post hyping that they hit 400 likes, and beyond that, The Billys have only played one public concert since the end of 2013, when their full quintet lineup travelled to Ophir to perform at the inaugural Northern Vibe Festival in August 2015. Over their decade-long (though increasingly sporadic) run in the local scene, The Billy Bastards became a fan favourite sight with fans of punk and country alike, notably headlining The Rockstar Bar's first ever concert, opening for notable local and out of town acts, and competing at 2009's Kiss Battle of the Bands (in which many fans still think they should have made the finals.), Their three CDs were all popular releases locally as well, if elusive to find online in a full copy, but hopefully we can review one on here soon.

While I'm not an ardent fan of country music, The Billys melded it with punk as well as you can imagine, giving the punk swagger and aggression to their originals in a way that worked with fans of either genre, as attendance of their packed concerts will attest! Given the band's late-era nature, a reunion set could occur at any time, but for now, best of luck to Aaron, Greg, Paul, John and Charlie in the future, and don't miss John with Destroilet!

Closing with new videos,  here's a charity video of Case's Music employees covering Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" a'la Wayne's World! Part of the ARCH Hospice's Cartime Karaoke Challenge where local businesses and teams sing karaoke in a car a'la the popular James Corden segments, this video features Case's Music staffers Carrie Suriano, Jake Rendell (Machines Dream), Josh Norling (The Elements), and Jenny Gauvreau (Honest Job) alongside Cartime Karaoke host and LopLops bartender Leo Moore, who picked them up and drove for the duration. Competing teams will have a final faceoff at Dragonfly Day on June 17th downtown at the canal, so click here for full details on the event and how you can donate or attend. Dressed the part with flannel shirts, ball caps, and even drum sticks and a mini-keyboard, this is a fun rendition that overcomes a slightly nervous and uneasy opening, and it's well worth checking out whether you're a fan of Case's Music, Queen, Wayne's World, or The Late Late Show, and you can check it out below!

Finally, here's an amusing teaser video for last night's Electric Church headlining set at Live705's Easter Bash, courtesy of their Facebook page yesterday afternoon! Apologies for this being late on here, it came when we didn't have time to rush a post to include it. The clip features the fathers of frontman Spencer Pine and bassist Elijah Nielsen hyping the show in lieu of their sons, and while some of the information is a little muddled, this is an amusing and unexpected way to hype the concert! Give it a look below, and stay tuned for our review of the show proper next!

That's all for now, but once again, look for our review of Live705's Easter Bash on the site next! Thanks everyone!

LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Nudge & The 3 Day Millionaires) And The First Of This Weekend's Concert Previews!!

With the last concert weekend of the month approaching, let's tackle most of our hard rock concert previews today! For reference, we will touch on Saturday night's Motherfuckers-headlined Oddfellows Hall concert in our next news post (with a note regarding a lineup change, and yes, any more late notice announcements), and remember that Saturday's Gnaeus/K.I.C.K. show at The Rockstar Bar was indefinitely postponed due to "unforeseen circumstances." Now, let's kick off this preview post with some SHORT NOTICE LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS!

Marquette, Michigan hard rock cover quartet Nudge will return to The Satisfied Frog in Sault Michigan for headlining concerts TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT! Apologies for the short notice, the band only announced the shows via their official Facebook event page on Tuesday. Coming unusually soon after their most recent local gigs (just four weeks ago at The Frog), Danzo and company should be on form with their entertaining modern hard rock renditions, so don't miss out on their latest local gigs TOMORROW & SATURDAY! For reference, the event page doesn't list the Wednedsday & Thursday Danzo's acoustic sets that usually precede the full Nudge shows, no word on if they've been permanently dropped or not. There's no announced cover charge for this weekend, you must be 21 or older to attend, and 10:00 PM start times are advertised. For more details, visit the above links, and here's Nudge live in Negaunee!

Also new this weekend, Sault Ontario classic/hard rock cover quartet The 3 Day Millionaires will return to the stage TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT when they rock The Rednecks Saloon! Again, apologies for the short notice, they too only announced the shows via their official Facebook event page on Tuesday. Fresh off of their Park Grille debut two weeks ago, this will be this newer local cover band's second weekend at the former Nicolet Tavern, following a successful debut there last month. This union of Havadder, Turner Up, Lucky 13, and Boxcar Junction alumni have been entertaining fans reliably in the past few months, and hopefully they deliver strong sets this weekend at Rednecks! There's no announced cover charges either for their shows, each will start at 10:30 PM, and you must be 19 or older to enter. For more details, visit the above links, and here's The 3 Day Millionaires live earlier this year!

Moving to previously announced concerts, Caveman Morrison frontman Tym Morrison will continue with his weekly concert arrangement at Gliss Steak & Seafood with two more acoustic matinee concerts TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT! With more acoustic gigs likely to be confirmed for May in his ongoing Gliss run soon, don't worry about the lack of later Tym shows in our concert listings, but definitely consider a trip down to The Quality Inn's house restaurant this weekend to take in his skilled and prolific range of covers, with a good selection of hard rock favourites sure to be among his sets! As usual for Tym's Gliss dates, these have 6:00 PM start times, no announced age limits, and no cover charges, but remember that this is a sit-down restaurant. For more details, visit the official Facebook event page, and for a preview, here's Tym live!

Finally for today's preview post, Sault Michigan hard rock quartet 415E will return to the stage TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT at The Northern Pines Lounge at the St. Ignace Kewadin Casino! Marking their first announced concerts since their St. Ignace stops in February, it's great to see this increasingly sporadically seen band on stage again, and with Nixxon Dixxon, Splitshot, and Highest of Fives alumni in their ranks, you know that their Van Halen-inspired hard rock selections will find a solid audience this weekend! For reference, 415E are not currently advertised for any upcoming concerts in our area after this weekend, though Kewadin's entertainment page does advertised them as playing in Manistique in June. As usual for their Kewadin gigs, there's no announced cover charges, these are 21+ events, and these shows will start at around 9:00 PM. For more details, visit the above links, and here's 415E live!

That's all for today, but stay tuned for more previews and this month's CD review next! Thanks everyone!

LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Nudge), More Weekend Concert Previews, And The Din's Latest Updates!!

Happy April Fools Day, everyone! I give my 100% pledge that there's no pranks or fake stories ahead (partly to be kind, partly as I have no good ideas for a prank), so prepare for the rest of this weekend's known hard rock concert previews, SHORT NOTICE LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS for Sault Michigan, a new concert video, and some updates from a rising young Sault Ontario band! Here's what you should know!

Marquette, Michigan cover hard rock favourites Nudge will make their way to The Satisfied Frog in Sault Michigan for the first time this year TONIGHT & TOMORROW NIGHT! Apologies for the short notice, we only heard about this show last night, though Nudge had advertised it on the official Facebook event page for longer than a week. After a nearly 6 month break from playing in the E.U.P., fans should welcome Danzo McCracken and company back with open arms this weekend, and with their entertaining blend of hard rock covers in full force, don't miss out TONIGHT and/or TOMORROW! Yes, these shows did again follow Danzo's requisite acousticWendesday-Thursday nighters as well, hopefully those were hits! 10:00 PM start times, no announced cover charges, and 21+ age limits are in effect for this weekend, so see above for more details, and for a preview, here's Nudge live!

Moving to previously announced concerts, let's stay in Sault Michigan with the next gigs from newer local blues/hard rock quartet Project 906, who will make their Soo debut (and 2nd-3rd live concert appearances) when they rock Dondee Lanes TONIGHT & TOMORROW NIGHT! With the Ten Kings successors' St. Patrick's Day launch in Brimley now under their belts, this talented new band will head to the Dondee for their first full weekend engagement, and they should have a fun weekend of hard and blues rock covers in store for fans! Early start times of 8:00 PM are in effect for this weekend's shows, you must be 21 or older to attend, and there's no announced cover charges. For more details, visit the official Facebook event page, and for a preview, here's a new video from Project 906's debut concert! Uploaded to the band's Facebook page on March 21st, this is a short video of the end of their cover of Van Halen's "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love", with leprechaun hats in tow.

You don't get a fantastic look at Project 421 here, with only the "Hey! Hey Hey!" chants featured for vocals, but Joe Jenkins does end things with a solid lick, and the filming quality is decent! Hopefully more comes out from Project 906 soon, don't miss them at The Dondee this weekend, and here's the end of their Van Halen cover!

Finally for known local hard rock concert previews this weekend, Caveman Morrison frontman Tym Morrison will continue his Gliss Steak & Seafood arrangement with solo acoustic shows TONIGHT & TOMORROW! As Tym's run at the downtown restaurant marches on, look for some fun classics in an unplugged format once again, and if you know Tym's prolific nature, these should again deliver the goods over the next two evenings! Of course, remember that the Caveman Morrison band will end a 2+ year hiatus TOMORROW during the Rednecks Saloon relaunch party, so keep that show in mind as well if you've missed Tym's full live band in the mid-2010s! Of course, their return (presuming it continue past tomorrow night) shouldn't affect his Gliss dates, as those are matinees. Tym's Gliss shows this weekend are 6:00 PM affairs with no announced cover charges or age limits, but remember, this is a sit-down restaurant. Visit the official Facebook event page for more details, and here's Tym live at the former Bossy's!

We'll close today's post with the latest from local alternative/hard rock trio The Din, who will join Caveman Morrison and five other acts at the aforementioned Rednecks relaunch concert TOMORROW! Since their runner-up performance in last week's VM Radio Battle of the Bands, this rising local band have announced via their Facebook page that they're in studio and "making more and more progress" on their debut album, though it's not yet clear if recording sessions have firmly begun for it. This seemingly confirms that their old jam-era free postings like "Dinner With the President" (which they termed as "albums") are not considered as such anymore. Presumably, the band's planned CD release of their acoustic Fishbowl Festival set at The Gore Street Cafe is separate, as The Din also teased that on Facebook last week, to be put out under the name "The Din Does Laundry".

The full set includes 15 songs, including 4 covers and some unfamiliar songs like "Spin Cycle" & "Leamington, Ontario". No word on how this live disc will be released, but stay tuned for updates on it! The Din have also launched an Instagram page to check out, with more content to follow there, but we'll end things with The Din's newest Facebook video, posted on Monday to promote tomorrow's Rednecks set. It features Mike, Tammy, and Brendan discussing the show, their lack of an on-stage banner for it, and how Tammy bought an old tube television for that purpose, which they fruitlessly try to use like a smart TV. Cute promotion, so give it a look below!

That's all for today, but stay tuned for this month's "Where Are The New Albums?" post tomorrow! Thanks everyone!
