LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Mourning Wood), St. Patrick's Day Weekend Concert Previews, And New Videos!!

Before we dive into our recap of last night's VM Radio Battle of the Bands action, let's tackle previews of this weekend's hard rock concert action, and unless there's something announced on super-late notice, we have everything together after last week's were scattered around a bit too much. We also have new videos to tackle from one of the bands in question, but first, here's SHORT NOTICE LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS!!

Local classic/hard rock cover quartet Mourning Wood will reportedly rock The Rednecks Saloon TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT! Apologies for the short notice, drummer Glen Thomas only confirmed the shows with me in a recent personal conversation, and as of this writing, the band hadn't plugged them publically. Coming a month after their last shows at the former Nicolet Tavern, and just a week after their most recent Reggie's Place gigs, definitely consider checking out Mourning Wood's varied yet often heavy blend of covers this weekend if you're up for some live cover action this weekend! Glen also told me that this weekend's shows were originally planned to be next week, but a scheduling conflict led to them swapping with another local band, which we'll cover on here when publically announced by that band and/or the venue. For TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT, there's no announced cover charges, 19+ age limits, and likely 10:00 PM start times.

Also, as a reference note, Mourning Wood frontman Terry Eaton and guitarist Steven Flint will be hosting The Rednecks Saloon's debut attempt at an open mic night (with prizes) tonight, so keep that in mind, and click here for more details! Remember, this is not advertised as a proper Mourning Wood concert. See above for more details on this weekend's action, and here's Mourning Wood live at Rednecks last year!

Moving to previously announced concerts, let's first take a detour to Brimley, Michigan, where new local hard/blues rock quartet Project 906 will make their live concert debut at Pickles Bar & Grill for a St. Patrick's Day concert TONIGHT! Not to be confused with Sault Ontario's Project 421, you may recognize Project 906 as the new band from former Ten Kings/Bottom Line alumni Joe Jenkins & Will Storey, who will be joined by singer Billy Bernier and bassist Dustin Paras in their newest local band project, and if you've seen their videos and/or are familiar with Joe & Will's past bands, you should be looking forward to their debut tonight! Hey, I'm just glad to see a new hard rock band forming in the E.U.P., hopefully more turn up soon! Remember, Pickles is at 11204 West Lakeshore Drive in Brimley, and while it's generally unfamiliar for our coverage on the SMS, you may recall that ex-Half A Man frontman Erik Rintamaki hosts open mic nights there.

Project 906 will take the stage at 10:00 PM tonight, this is a 21+ event, and there's no announced cover charge. For more details, visit the official Facebook event page, don't forget your green clothes for tonight's debut concert, and here's a recent Project 906 jam session video!

Heading back to Sault Ontario, let's touch on a three-night-stand at The Rockstar Bar TONIGHT, TOMORROW NIGHT, and SATURDAY NIGHT, where new local classic/hard rock cover quartet The 3 Day Millionaires will themselves rock our over this St. Patrick's Day weekend! The green beer-laden holiday will see this union of Carbon Black, Lucky 13, Boxcar Junction, and Turner Up alumni playing for three straight nights after only having played two prior concerts, so if you haven't seen this talented veteran outfit yet, you have three chances this weekend! There are no announced cover charges for this weekend (but have cash on hand just in case), you must be 19 or older to attend, and 10:30 PM start times are in effect. Visit the official Facebook event page for more details, and for a preview, we do in fact have videos of The 3 Day Millionaires at last, so what should you know?

Four Facebook videos were shot by attendee Amanda Triplett at their debut concert at The Rockstar Bar last month, and then shared onto the band's Facebook page on March 4th, and they include the guys covering Don Henley's "The Boys of Summer", The Flys' "Got You (Where I Want You)", Cracker's "Low" and, as embedded below, Pearl Jam's "Better Man". All featuring bassist Steve Dowding on lead vocals (with the exception of the Travis Sharpe-sung "Low"), you get some familiar Rock 101 staples here, and The 3 Day Millionaires seem to have a good chemistry, but alas, only one of these videos exceeds 2:15 in length. Give The 3 Day Millionaires a look above & below, and don't miss this weekend's shows!

Lastly, let's look at prolific local hard rock singer/guitarist Tym Morrison's latest solo concerts, which will see his ongoing run at Gliss Steak & Seafood continue TOMORROW & SATURDAY, but we'll also find him rocking out at Cocina Del Diablo on Wellington Street West TONIGHT! With Tym's Gliss arrangement apparently pared down to Fridays and Saturdays (at least for the time being), the longtime Caveman Morrison frontman will bring his extensive setlist and acoustic hard rock skills to the former Blue Boy tonight, which is owned by a good friend of his. Will tonight's Cocina Del Diablo show be the start of a new weekly run for Tym, or is just an experiment at a different restaurant/venue altogether? We'll have to wait and see! Similarly to his Gliss shows, tonight's Cocina Del Diablo gig will be at 7:00 PM (the Gliss shows remain at 6:00 PM), and all three do not have an announced age limit or cover charge, but remember that both are sit-down restaurants.

For more details, visit the official Facebook event pages linked here & here! Hopefully the apparent retraction of Tym's Gliss shows isn't a sign of anything negative for his series there, but Tym has a busy weekend ahead regardless, so whether you'll be downtown or a little further west, don't miss his talented unplugged favourites tonight through Saturday! Here's Tym live!

That's all for now, but stay tuned for our recap of last night's final semifinal in this year's VM Radio Battle of the Bands later today! Thanks everyone!
