LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Banned), This Weekend's Concert Previews, And A New Queensryche Video!!

Once again, we have a 100% Sault Michigan post today that largely circles around Banned and Queensryche! I know it might seem like overkill lately, but the latter's show here was a big deal, and the former have had a lot of recent news, including LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS and previews of this weekend's concerts that they're involved in. Also keep reading for a new Queensryche video and previews of another Sault Michigan concert weekend, but first, let's get you guys caught up on the new shows (Also, the Sebastian Bach preview's coming this weekend, as it's a bit too soon to have it today.)

Kinross hard rockers Banned have been in the news a lot this week, and that trend continues with their newest show announcements, as they'll return to The Cozy Corners Tavern & Grill in nearby Barbeau, Michigan for two dates next month! As announced yesterday, these surprisingly won't be on the same weekend, as they'll hit this venue on separate Saturdays (February 9th and 23rd), but the music should be great no matter what! The February 9th gig will mark their first concert in Barbeau since August (that I can confirm), so if you like the venue and the band, this should work out well for you! Banned will bring their classic and hard rock covers and originals to the Cozy Corners on both nights at 8:30 PM, with 21+ age limits and no cover charges likely. For more details, visit Banned's Facebook page! These should be a solid pair of concerts from this freuqently seen local band, and hopefully Banned rock Barbeau (a half hour south of Sault Michigan, an hour northeast of St. Ignace) to it's core next month in their busy February schedule!

That said, Banned will be playing long before then, namely THIS WEEKEND, as they'll make their first ever live appearances at Dondee Lanes in Sault Michigan TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT! Similar groundrules are likely compared to their past and future shows, save for an oddly early 8:00 PM start time both nights, so expect a 21+ age limit, but have cash just in case. These will also likely be held without guitarist Alex Schrovenwever, who I believe is back out of town for college following his brief return over the holidays. It's great to see Banned covering new ground in their slow expansion across the U.P., and hopefully they make a great first impression at the Dondee this weekend! For a preview, here's Banned playing their song "Cocaine Riot" in September!

The other announced hard rock shows this weekend (Sebastian Bach aside, that's coming on Saturday) will take place at The Northern Pines Lounge at the St. Ignace Kewadin Casino, where Sault Michigan trio Powerslug will make their first announced concert appearances of 2013! I stress "announced", as with no online pages, their shows are often short notice or missed for coverage on here, so it's good to have this one in the queue well in advance thanks to Kewadin Casino's entertainment page! I'd expect Chris, Bob, and Chris to have a great set of hard rock covers this weekend, so take the trip down to St. Ignace TOMORROW AND SATURDAY NIGHT to chug your mug with Powerslug! Admission should be free for these 21+ concerts, and I'd expect 10:00 PM start times both nights. Check the above links for more details! Though I wish they had online media/pages, their talented membership (including Clownsack and Kilacel alumni) should impress as usual, so don't miss Powerslug at the St. Ignace Kewadin tomorrow or Saturday night!

Finally for today, here's another new video from the Queensryche show at The Dreammaker's Theater at the Sault Michigan Kewadin Casino this past Saturday! A day after his first two videos went up, attendee Christopher Paci posted one more video from the concert onto his YouTube channel, this time of Queensryche playing their song "Eyes of a Stranger"! Like his first videos, this are far from the stage with good audio quality, but luckily, it's not as jittery on his videos of them playing heavier songs, so definitely give it a look below, and stay tuned for more Queensryche videos if they turn up!

That's all for today, but stay tuned tomorrow for last month's poll results and this month's new poll! What was your favourite new hard rock band of 2012? What element of 2012 will you judge over the coming month next? We'll find out tomorrow, so stay tuned!

A New Local Band, New Solo Videos, And More Updates!!

After a two day spell based on Queensryche videos and other Sault Michigan updates, today's post is 100% Sault Ontario focused, so what's on tap? We have new solo videos from a pair of local musicians and a bunch of other assorted stories, but first, here's a brand new local band to add to our links on the site!

New local metal band Unbound have finally created a Facebook page, so we officially have a new band to add to our Sault Ontario metal band links! As you may remember, Unbound is the band featuring State of Misery alumni Ray Cowan on guitar, Kevin D'Orazio on bass, and Nick Kainula on drums, alongside the late Justin Fratpietro on vocals, who suddenly passed away on January 3rd. Little is on their Facebook page so far, but here's what we know so far on Unbound: Though heavy, they're far removed from the surviving members' prior death metal work, as indicated in their lone current video for their song "Deep Waters". While yet to be posted on their Facebook page, conversations that I've had with Nick Kainula indicate that he wants to keep Unbound going and honour Justin's memory, with tentative plans and ideas that include song/video postings and potentially a live debut, although nothing's concrete at present. Also, I'm not sure if Unbound's existence means anything negative for Ray Cowan's death metal projects March Into Regression and With Blood Builds Character, neither of which has made a public update since the summer. If I hear anything on either, I'll let you guys know!

I hope the guys keep Unbound alive and do everything they can to make it locally and remember Justin! I didn't know him, but I'd assume he'd want the band to continue. Nick sounded very proud of the Unbound originals they wrote, and the "Deep Waters" video has some metal/hard rock promise, so hopefully we'll hear more from them as 2013 rolls along! Become a fan above, and Unbound are now in our active metal band links on your left!

Next up, here's a few new videos from some local musicians, starting with the latest solo video from Valentine's Day Massacre frontman Steve Rhodes! Yesterday, he uploaded this vocal cover of Suicide Silence's "Unanswered" onto his YouTube channel from his current London homebase, and this is his first video of this type in 3 months, but how does he sound? It's a solid cover, and you can tell he's a big fan of Suicide Silence, but I'd say you'd have to be a huge fan of theirs or this style of hardcore to appreciate it the most. His vocal devastation's on full display though, so check out Steve's newest solo video below!

Also in new videos are the latest two solo originals from AlterWhite's Mike Matthews, who uploaded new songs named "Enough" and (as embedded below) "Something Left Inside" on his/the band's YouTube channel last week! These are reportedly planned to be on an "album" named "Something Left Inside", though I'll note that his announced first two albums still aren't on sale. The evolution from the early AlterWhite tracks is very clear, and there's some catchy and very heavy music here, but I'd like to see Mike diversify the singing more (though there's good steps that direction here, including some harsher yelling.) Check out "Something Left Inside" below, and hear more of Mike's solo songs above!

Finally for today, here's three assorted shorter stories from the last little while, and as always, these are in alphabetical order by band or event name:

  • According to a post on The Rockstar Bar's Facebook group on Saturday, local concert promoter/singer J.D. Pearce is planning a month long battle of the bands to take place there every Wednesday in March. Public details are forthcoming, aside from confirmation that bands who play covers & originals will be welcome. This sounds very intriguing, so keep an eye out for updates as they come in!
  • Local old school hardcore/punk quintet Destroilet have launched their own Twitter page! Little is there so far beyond plugs for existing pages and their new album, but follow them on Twitter to stay in the loop on new band updates!
  • Sault Ontario hard rock supergroup Skeyes of Seven posted a new update on their Facebook page on Sunday, confirming that they've been busy writing originals and will soon be back on stage, hopefully within a few months. The band memorably debuted at the Anvil show in July, but have offered few updates since, so hopefully 2013 has a lot of activity in store for them! Check the above links for more on Skeyes of Seven!

That's all for today, but stay tuned for weekend concert previews a, this month's new "Favourite _____ of 2012" poll, andlast month's poll results over the next few days! Thanks everyone!

LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Banned) And New Queensryche Videos!!

Well, my plans for Sault Ontario news today somewhat got overshadowed, as today's post is very similar to yesterday's in content, so if you're a fan of Banned and Queensryche, good news! Nothing new related to Absolute though. This 100% Sault Michigan post features all of the latest videos from Saturday night's Queensryche concert (and there's a lot more), but first, here's some LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS for across the river!!

Kinross hard rockers Banned have announced their first concerts of 2013, starting with what I think are their first ever live concerts THIS WEEKEND at Dondee Lanes! I can't find any proof that the Traynors and company have ever played a public show at the South Mackinaw Trail venue/bowling alley, so this will be very cool to see them rocking out at The Dondee on Friday & Saturday night! Following this weekend's gigs, they also confirmed a full weekend slate of concerts on February 15th & 16th, when they return to The Runway Bar in Hessel on the 15th and Todd's Tavern in Moran on the 16th! The Runway Bar gig will be their first show in Hessel in almost 3 months, while the Todd's Tavern date will be their first since New Year's Eve. Also, I'd assume these will be without guitarist Alex Schrovenwever again due to out of town college commitments, following his show with them over the holidays. All of these shows have no announced cover charge and 21+ age limits, and the start times for them are 8:00 PM (save for the Hessel show, which starts at 9:00 PM.) For more details, visit Banned's Facebook page!

It's great to see Banned rocking the area again (especially following their Manistique show last weekend, which is a bit far), and hopefully they deliver great nights of hard rocking covers and originals this weekend and next month! Stay tuned for updates and possible new shows as they roll in!

The rest of this post concerns even more videos from the Queensryche concert at The Dreammaker's Theater at the Sault Michigan Kewadin Casino on Saturday, so if you missed it or wanna relive the action, we have even more footage to share, all as uploaded yesterday! First, we have four videos from YouTube user WIRycheFan62, who has uploaded a number of metal concert videos from the midwest onto his channel. These videos are of Queensryche playing their songs "Take Hold of the Flame", "Warning", "I Don't Believe In Love", and (as embedded below) "Child of Fire", so click each link to give them a look! WIRycheFan62 was in the front row, and his high quality camera adds to that nicely for a great vantage point of the band, but the audio quality suffers from his location, as singer Todd La Torre's vocals are extremely hard to hear. He cited where he was seated compared to the speakers for that, and while the quiet vocals are a disappointment, the quality & musical talent is otherwise excellent! I've embedded the longest of WIRycheFan62's videos ("Child of Fire") below, but give the rest of his videos a look above!

Also in new Queensryche videos are two clips from YouTube user Christopher Paci, who you may remember as an uploader of videos from last year's Buckcherry & Evans Blue shows at Kewadin Casino. This time, Chris filmed Queensryche playing "The Needle Lies" and (as embedded below) their concert opening song "Queen of the Reich", so what should you know about these videos? Chris was much further from the stage, and his camera work is noticeably jittier, but he still gets a good angle of the band, and Todd's vocals are much louder, so that's a bonus! If you can look past the somewhat muffled audio, you'll find some good quality stuff, so check out "Queen of the Reich" below, and the rest of Chris' videos above!

Finally for today, we have a single Queensryche video from attendee Kendall Jung (his first concert video, in fact), and this is of Queensryrche playing their classic "Silent Lucidity" at the show! Like the other new videos, it's in HD dimensions, and though he's similarly placed to WIRycheFan62, the vocals are fairly clear and loud! Maybe as a ballad, it helps to hear everything. The quality is great, but motions on the camera seem oddly jittery for some reason. Very nice though, so check out his "Silent Lucidity" video below, and don't forget about Danykins77's videos from the show either!

That's all for today, but stay tuned for more news and notes shortly, and I promise (barring a Queensryche upload spree) we'll have new Sault Ontario stuff in our next post! Thanks everyone!

Sault Michigan Metal Video Showcase, Including The First Queensryche Videos!!

It's time for our first local metal video showcase of the month, and for our Yooper readers, this post entirely deals with bands and shows across the river! Today's post includes the latest video from a Kinross hard rock band and some recent archive uploads to tie in with a feature profile on the SMS, but first, here's your first glimpses at a major recent concert!

The first known YouTube videos from Saturday night's Queensryche concert were just posted tonight, and are now available to watch! These come courtesy of YouTube user danykins77, and while I can't confirm that these are from The Dreammaker's Theater at the Sault Michigan Kewadin Casino through there, the members' clothes match up with photos that I've seen from Saturday's concert, so I think I have the right dots connected. Three videos have been posted so far by danykins77, including Queensryche's performances of "I Don't Believe In Love" & (as embedded below) "Silent Lucidity", along with one extra one we'll mention in a second, and the quality isn't too bad! The camera angle is close to the action, and the guys sound good, if at the mercy of somewhat loud & distorted audio at points. Solid all around though, so give Queensryche's performance of "Silent Lucidity" a look below, and check out more full songs above!

The other new video from danykins77 is this short clip of Queensryche drummer Scott Rockenfield talking to the crowd, where he talks about the struggles of 2012, works around some lively fans, and introduces current singer Todd La Torre, before playing a few more songs. This sounds like it came before their encore on Saturday, but I'm not positive. You don't see a whole lot of stage banter videos like this, but it's a cool clip all the same, so check out Scott talking to the Soo crowd below, and stay tuned for more local Queensryche videos as they roll in!

Also today, we have the newest video from Kinross hard rockers Banned to check out! Uploaded to Ashley Traynor's YouTube channel last week, this is of their cover of J.J. Cale's "Cocaine" (later popularized by Eric Clapton) at Todd's Tavern in Moran, Michigan on New Year's Eve, and it marks their second straight public video to be filmed by Eric Cairns of Third Cinema Productions rather than Ashley herself. Featuring drummer Don Traynor on lead vocals ("occasional singer" Mike Straw is absent), this video confirms that guitarist Alex Schrovenwever was back with Banned for this show while home from college over the holidays, and it's great to see him back with the guys, even if for just one weekend! This is a well done cover, and Don's vocals suit it well, but I'd like to see some heavier covers filmed again, rather than just general & classic rock from the past few months. Very well filmed too, albeit with overpowering lighting, so give Banned's newest video a look below!

Finally for today, I wanted to mention some recent uploads on our YouTube channel that could use some extra notice. Last week, we profiled defunct Pickford hard rock quartet Absolute in our Defunct Local Band Profile Series, and as I often do with the bands we randomly pick for it, I posted some archive material of theirs on YouTube to share with readers and fans. However, the video I embedded on the profile was their only known original song "Native Tongue", which has been on YouTube since 2011, so the newer YouTube uploads didn't get a spotlight... until now! Last week, I uploaded Absolute's three most viewed 2008-2009 live cover videos from their MySpace page (Theory of a Deadman's "Hate My Life", Sublime's "Santeria", and Godsmack's "Whatever") onto YouTube, alongside three of their four most heard audio files (The Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Under The Bridge", Ugly Kid Joe's "Everything About You", and Seether's "Fake It"), so click each link to check them out! Note that they had a popular audio demo of "Whatever" too, but I didn't post that last week because a live video of that song went up already.

There's much more Absolute media files that could go on YouTube, but I didn't wanna go into overkill last week, so hopefully we'll get a chance to share those songs there as well down the road! These are nice and widely varied performances from Absolute's heyday, and though the videos are of mixed quality, the audio demos are pretty well done! The members all seem to flow well musically, though Donny Newell's vocals don't always suit lighter material. I've embedded their cover of "Whatever" below, but check out the rest of the files above, and hopefully we'll see the members of Absolute back in a new band in the future!

That's likely all for today, but stay tuned for a new news post likely tomorrow, including some Sault Ontario stuff! Thanks everyone!

Concert Cancellations, Lots Of Sykotyk Rampage News, And F.A.T.I.L.'s New Video!!

Before we get to the rest of today's news, I just wanted to note that The Suicide Kings' planned concerts this weekend have been cancelled, just one week after their planned Rockstar Bar gigs suffered the same fate. The guys were scheduled to make their Docks Riverfront Grill debut yesterday & tonight, but they cited "a last minute booking issue with Docks" for their cancellation on their Facebook page last night. This may have been partly due to singer Mike Gaetano falling ill, as drummer Ben Boudreau was briefly looking for a fill-in vocalist for the weekend on the Musicians Wanted Facebook group, but they cancelled the shows shortly after. This is really disappointing, especially with the guys having to cancel consecutive concert weekends to start the year, but hopefully they'll play somewhere this month! As of right now, their next announced shows (and now, their real Docks debut) will be on February 9th and 10th, so if nothing else is announced, keep those dates in mind!

With that said, we have some more news to get to on this Saturday afternoon, including our first new audio tracks from a prominent local metal band, confirmation on their current lineup, and a new video from a prominent local metal band, so here's what you need to know!

The Soo's resident blue Chinese metal crash punk band Sykotyk Rampage have been posted two full streaming copies of new albums onto their Reverbnation page earlier this week! Like with their 2011 output, these were visibly delayed from the announced "release date", but it's good to finally start hearing these new songs! These are considered the band's 34th & 35th albums (despite being 30th & 31st in release order), and they're entitled "The Cross" and "Will Do Anything, Seriously?". Featuring 15 & 11 songs respectively, most of these tracks are new to longtime listeners, but a couple of recent live tracks are included (most notably "Hay Zeus" from "The Cross"), and that album seems to have an anti-religion concept, as the cover and song titles would suggest. The band's other 4 planned albums from last year ("Smells Real Good On A Bad Night", "Jonathon, Your Music Sucks!", "Sykotyk Ramp-Age", and "Anal Distruptions") have yet to be posted (save for the song "Roll A Doobie"), and like with their 2011 "Genius Mushrooms" albums, these have yet to be posted for sale.

I haven't heard most of the new songs yet, but if they retain the sykotyk and aggressive bent of albums like "Zombiez" & "22", they should live up to the hype! When the band posts more new material (or makes any new albums available for purchase), I'll let you guys know for sure! One more thing on Sykotyk Rampage: It looks like they've officially made Tony Briglio their permanent bassist, replacing Brian Cattapan. Nothing official was announced to that effect, but Tony's now listed as their bassist on Reverbnation, complete with the nickname "Chastity Boy" to go along with the other members' amusing monikers. Best known previously as a bassist in The Fury, Tony started filling in for Brian (who's lived in Sudbury for a few years now) this summer, which has to have helped with Sykotyk Rampage's quick concert pace in the latter half of 2012 compared to previous years. No word yet on if Tony played anything on Sykotyk Rampage's newest albums, but for what it's worth, Brian is featured in three of their 2012 album covers. Tony's a great fit all around with Sykotyk Rampage, but hopefully we'll see Brian turn up at some future shows as well!

Finally for today, here's a new video from Central Algoma death metal quartet For All That Is Lost! I'm not sure how this got bypassed for so long (I must have thought it was a re-upload), but this performance of their song "Northern Metal" from the Locals Attack show at The Canadian Nightclub on November 26th was posted on the band's YouTube channel two weeks ago! Filmed on a nice camera (albeit with dark lighting), the fi;mer got some nice moving angles of the guys from a high vantage point, and F.A.T.I.L. are at their brutal best here, so give this new-ish video of theirs a look below, and hopefully we'll see them back on stage soon!

That's all for today, but stay tuned for Queensryche fallout, more new videos, and much more shortly! Thanks everyone, and enjoy the Queensryche show tonight!

LOCAL CONCERT ALERT (Apocalypse: The Musical), Queensryche Concert Preview, And This Week's Classic Video!!

Before getting to the meat of this post, I just wanted to note that TONIGHT'S multi-band concert at The Speak Easy is actually a "United For Equity" event, which sounds like a nice cause for sure, so click here for more details, and hopefully tonight's event goes awesome! Today, we have this week's classic video, a preview of a huge metal show TOMORROW NIGHT, and first, a LOCAL CONCERT ALERT, so here's what you need to know!

A three for all of metal & punk tribute bands named "Apocalypse: The Musical" is hitting The Canadian Nightclub on March 1st, including some local talent, so let's run down what we know on the three bands! The first listed band is Xanadu, and I believe they're either a revived or new version of the ever prolific Jonathan Tiberi's old metal band from his hometown of Welland! They used to cover Black Sabbath a lot, and their set in March will be entirely Black Sabbath covers to fit with the show's theme. There's a lot of unknowns right now in terms of Xanadu's return (i.e. if other former band members will be back, if this is a one-off gig, etc.), but the videos Jon has on his personal Facebook page show promise and pay tribute to Sabbath well, so this should be a fun set! Also scheduled are a Misfits tribute band named The Fiend Brigade (renamed from The Angelfucks) that I personally have no information on. If they're local, it's possible that they could share Frightlight members, especially as they're well known for covering & being influenced by The Misfits (plus, frontman J.D. Pearce is promoting this show), but I am not certain on much else yet, or if they're even a local band.

The third band are local thrash rockers Pillory in just their second ever concert & their first since the passing of guitarist Andres Duchesne last month, and they'll be covering all Metallica songs for this show, which sounds cool in & of itself! That said, we still don't know who will be their new second guitarist come March (if anyone), but hopefully we hear something on that front soon, and hopefully Andres will be there somehow! This 19+ show will have a $5 cover charge, and it begins at 10:00 PM on March 1st. Check the above links for more details! This should be an entertaining concert, and a welcome shake-up for a multi-band show like this, so hopefully there's a huge turnout at The Canadian to kick off March, and if you have any additional information on the lingering questions for these three bands, let me know! (Also, Pillory revealed on their Facebook page yesterday that they're apparently hitting the studio to record their debut EP this weekend! Seems fairly sudden, especially with no new guitarist yet, but their originals would sound awesome in studio, so stay tuned for updates!)

Next up, here's our first major metal concert preview of 2013, as The Dreammaker's Theater at the Sault Michigan Kewadin Casino welcomes Bellevue, Washington progressive metal quintet Queensryche TOMORROW NIGHT! Note that this is the original version of Queensryche featuring 3 original members, not ex-singer Geoff Tate's new version of the band that he formed last year. Queensryche are among the most influential metal bands of the 1980s and early 1990s, selling over 6 million CDs and producing such hits as "Silent Lucidity", "Real World", and "Jet City Woman", and their technical yet catchy brand of metal should ensure an amazing show tomorrow night, and don't disregard them just because Geoff's not in this version anymore, as Todd La Torre has an amazing range and suits the classics very well! Just as a reminder, Brimley metal trio Half A Man will NOT be opening this concert following some miscommunication earlier this week, but all is amicable now, and hopefully we'll see them back on the stage in the area soon!

Tickets are still available for $28.50 from the fourth row and back at this location, by phone at 1-800-KEWADIN, and in person at the Kewadin box office, while I'd call ahead in case there's any meet & greets, as these never seem to be well promoted online in advance. This is an all ages show, and it starts at 7:00 PM tomorrow night. Check the above links for more details! Queensryche should put in an awesome show to cap off the first weekend of metal shows in the area of 2013, so get your tickets A.S.A.P. if you haven't already, and stay tuned for fallout of this show next week! For a preview, here's Queensryche playing "Queen of the Reich" live in June!

Finally for today, here's our first classic video upload of 2013! Because it's getting harder to find older local metal videos from non-YouTube sources, I'm going to retract this weekly series to bi-weekly (at least for now) to spread the videos I have access to out. That said, for our first classic video of the year, to tie in with Tym Morrison's show at The Roadhouse Bar & Grill tonight, I've uploaded a jam session video of Tym and other local musicians covering Metallica's "Master of Puppets" on Halloween 2009! Featuring Tym on vocals & guitar alongside former local concert promoter/Time of Ruin guitarist Rich Moreland on an upside down bass and Adam Turcotte on drums, this isn't the cleanest cover that's ever existed, but the guys visibly had fun in this performance, and Rich is nicely dressed for the Halloween season! This video was filmed by attendee Shelley McKie and was uploaded to Facebook by Rich the next day, with the original video viewable at http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=164033612695. NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT IS INTENDED!!

All credit for this video goes to Shelley and the performers, I'm just trying to share it with a wider audience! Though this does suffer compared to a proper full band performance, it's a fun cover nonetheless, so give Tym, Rich, and Adam's jam session Metallica cover a look below!

That's all for today, but stay tuned for a new news post tomorrow! Thanks everyone!

The First Hard Rock/Metal Concert Previews Of 2013!!

After last weekend's cancellations, I'm glad to see a full lineup of hard rock and metal shows going down this weekend, which means it's time for our first weekend concert previews at the SMS of 2013! For space reasons (and to give it proper emphasis), we're previewing the Queensryche show tomorrow as the likely lead story, so today's post is 100% focused on Sault Ontario, including no less than 4 hard rock shows TOMORROW and one on Saturday, so read on below for what you need to know this weekend (And check out this month's Defunct Local Band Profile on Absolute in the post below this one!)

First, we'll head to The Speak Easy at Algoma University TOMORROW NIGHT for their first show with a hard rock band of 2013, and that band is local grunge quartet Haggith in their own first gig of the new year! Compared to our original announcement of this show last week, we know a ton more on it, including that there's much more than just Haggith playing tomorrow. In fact, this concert is actually a birthday event for local singer Kate Drew, who will be performing with her acoustic rock band The Freshwater Sirens and four other bands, and there's quite a diverse array of bands expected! While Haggith will bring their prolific grunge and alternative originals to the stage at around 11:30 PM tomorrow (as per their Facebook event page), the rest of the lineup includes the aforementioned Freshwater Sirens (featuring Apocrytha & Lazer Queen alumni), local funk rock trio The Dirty Few (essentially successors to The Vertically Impaired, but with Crimson Crusade's Devon Lucier in place of John Petingalo), local blues rockers Pocketful of Scoundrel (with members of Blues Harvest & The Woodsmen), and Algoma University's Celtic Drum Group, which all sounds very promising (especially for all of the somewhat newer bands!)

I apologize for being late on the non-Haggith details, I only heard about them after Haggith started promoting it last week. A cover charge hasn't been announced for this concert, which is definitely 19+ (no word on any possible Algoma student exemptions), and the first band is on at around 8:30 PM. For more details, visit the official Facebook event page! This sounds like a very intriguing show, especially for the diverse array of genres and newer talent on display, so keep it in mind for that reason and in case you wanna celebrate Kate's birthday! For a preview, here's Haggith playing many originals at their Bushplane Musical Madness set in November!

Next up for tomorrow's shows is the return of new local alternative hard rock quartet Lucky 13! Two months removed from their live debut at Toystock, the band featuring Aftersight frontman Ed Vowels, ex-Wishbone guitarist Jeremey Salatuk, former Turner Up bassist Jeff Gray, and Gully Yodelers drummer Roger Sartini will play their first ever headlining gig at The Rockstar Bar tomorrow night, in what should be a big concert! This talented band of local veterans should have a set full of 1990s-leaning hard and alternative rock covers in store, and if you liked Aftersight, you should definitely enjoy Lucky 13's gritty rock sound tomorrow night! I'd expect a cover charge in the $5 range, you must be 19 to attend, and there's a 10:00 PM start time announced. For more details, visit the official Facebook event page! I was impressed with Lucky 13's debut at Toystock, and hopefully they experience similar successes tomorrow and beyond, so keep their show in mind for your weekend's plans! For a preview, here's Lucky 13 playing 3 songs at Toystock last year!

Finally for the Friday-only gigs is Caveman Morrison frontman Tym Morrison's first live appearance of 2013, as he brings his solo acoustic show back to The Roadhouse Bar & Grill on Trunk Road tomorrow night! Though Caveman Morrison's planned 2013 launch last weekend was scuttled, Tym's unplugged covers are always a fun sight locally, and with The Roadhouse being one of his recent favourite venues, I'd expect a great night of music tomorrow! Admission should be free for this 19+ event, and a 10:00 PM start time is listed on the Facebook event page, so check the above links for more details! Tym's solo acoustic concerts are always good times, and with a diverse and large setlist as he always has, there'll be a little something for everyone, so take the trip to the East End for this show if you can! For a preview, here's Tym covering Heart's "Alone" at The Service Grill in 2011!

Lastly for the Sault Ontario weekend schedule is the 2013 debuts of new local hard rock quartet The Suicide Kings, who will make their first ever appearances at Docks Riverfront Grill tomorrow night & Saturday night! Still fresh off of the still unclear cancellation of their Rockstar Bar concerts last weekend, the guys will nonetheless continue their frequent live concert dates with some recently rare heavier music at the higher end Foster Drive venue, and hopefully these shows are huge hits! The guys are also scheduled at Docks for weekends in February and March too, so if you like this venue but can't make this weekend's gigs, you do have options! The Suicide Kings' alternative hard rock covers and originals will be on at 10:00 PM both nights, there is a 19+ age limit, and I believe the cover charge is in the $5 range. For more details, visit the official Facebook event page! Hopefully the guys rock Docks to it's core this weekend, and be on the lookout for more news from The Suicide Kings as it comes in! For a preview, here they are playing their song "Into The Fray" at Toystock last year!

That's all for today, but stay tuned for our Queensryche preview and more news tomorrow, and on a related note, if you missed Rock 101's interview with Queensryche drummer Scott Rockenfeld this afternoon (like I did), it'll re-air on "Scott & Brian in the Morning" at some point early tomorrow! Stay tuned for that and more!
