nullMild change of plans for our first YouTube Channel Profile of 2026, as I had originally randomly selectedMike Haggith's YouTube channel, only to belatedly realize that I already profiled it 4+ years ago. I think the updated channel URL threw me off. While this channel was already covered, definitely give it a watch and/or subscribe, as Mike has posted 50 new videos there since we spotlighted it in 2021, and it's still actively used! With that said, I picked an alphabetically close YouTube channel who we definitely have not profiled before to replace it, and it gives us another local guitarist named Mike, so here's what you should know on it!

Channel Timeline:Launched on February 22nd, 2009; Videos uploaded from that day through last fall
Channel Summary: A personal use channel, Mike has uploaded over 100 videos over the past 17 years, mostly originals songs and on-camera solo performances, though a handful of covers and outside artists heard on Audiofumes have also turned up here, as have videos related directly to the podcast, from host segments to behind the scenes content. Half of Mike's videos from the past three years have been live footage at downtown outdoor concerts, particularly ones involving local indie rock band Jupiter Marvelous.
Why You Should Watch: While Mike isn't known for live performances or paid album releases, and has been more sporadic in terms of posting his own original music in the 2020s, this channel is full of strong and varied music from a talented guitarist who as always deserved more attention, and this includes for Audiofumes, which was an active podcast with an international reach before podcasting got as big as it now! You can hear more music from Mike, including material that predates and/or was not uploaded on YouTube, via his Reverbnation page and Audiofumes episodes.

Bad Regime: One to collaborate with musicians local and from afar, Mike did both on this July 2010 original song named "Bad Regime", where he (on guitar and bass) was joined by ex-Soundcheck/Flat Stanley drummer Glen Thomas and Swedish vocalist Karin Beckerus, who fronted the alternative/electronic band Out Of Quebec. Featuring some trippy post-production effects with the accompanying slideshow, this is a tight hard rock number with very Cardigans-esque vocals, and Glen gets to let loose moreso than you may see from him in live cover bands, with Mike shining with some solid guitar work too! This is just the tip of the iceberg re: Mike's own original music though, and Karin turned up multiple times over the years on Audiofumes episodes.
Opening Riff to The Wizard - Uriah Heep: The most popular music-related video on Mike's channel is this April 2016 acoustic rendition of the riff from Uriah Heep's "The Wizard", which he previously recorded a full studio cover of in 2011 with a non-local backing band named The Ducks. The 97 second video features Mike introducing the song and how his guitar is tuned and set up, followed by him playing the riff. While a well received cover by most, Mike did get a critical comment over how tight the camera is, obscuring how he plays the riff to an extent, but you see enough of his right hand to get an idea. Well performed for sure, and he comes off well on camera, but don't bypass the full cover! If you're curious, Mike's most viewed video demonstrates the Enlightenment E17 desktop shell.
Rock Funk Fusion (collab): For an actual full-song performance on video, it was hard to pass up this February 2020 video that sees Mike playing three separate guitar tracks and bass separately before being combined in post-production for an original funk rock "collaboration". If one of the videos features someone else playing, they're not credited and you can't see their face, but the videos were all shot in the same location. Good stuff that shows off what Mike can do in a funkier and more carefree setting, and he was ahead of the curve in doing a video like this just a month before the first pandemic lockdown began!

This series will return for two randomly selected channels on or around February 26th, as the first one only has one album upload, so I picked a channel with videos from only one concert to round things out with. As such, we're looking at local punk trio A Dire Setback's YouTube Music channel and YouTube user Chris Bardawill's channel (featuring videos from an Obessesion concert in 2021). Let's keep the news train rolling on this Monday evening, so what will you find here? A couple of videos, bands being moved out of and into our inactive band links, and leading off, big updates concerning the openers of a major concert next month, so here's what you should know!
Inactive local horror punk quintet Frightlight and local alt-punk trio A Dire Setback will provide support at the Michale Graves concert at The Canadian Nightclub on September 28th, as per updates on the Facebook event page
last month! A surprise announcement to say the least, this will one of A
Dire Setback's biggest trio-era platforms ever, but of course, this
will be Frightlight's first show since the Halloween weekend last year,
and just their second since 2014, though this is being advertised a one
night only reunion once again, so they remain in our inactive band
links. Of course, Frightlight were well known for their covers of and
inspiration from Graves-era Misfits, so they are a beyond fitting choice
to open! Notably, this will also see the return of rhythm guitarist
Kevin "St. Mayhem" Powe after he missed their reunion set last year, and
as a teaser, Frightlight posted this short video onto their Facebook page on July 31st of Kevin (sans makeup) covering "Rust Angel".
Of course, "Rust Angel" began life as a surf rock-inspired Fitswitch song
before their successors adopted it in a heavier form factor, so fans of
both bands will like this! The over-exposed lighting and tight camera
angle don't add to the visual quality, but it's great to see Kevin
playing this song again, and you can see him do so with his Frightlight
brethren once more at The Canadian Nightclub next month, so give it a look below!
Next up, here's another notable band return for this fall, as inactive local Foo Fighters tribute band The Soo Fighters
announced on their Facebook page last week that they have reunited with
a new lineup! As such, they will return to the stage on November 1st, very likely
at J.D. Pearce's previously announced Halloween Party that night, which they played at two years ago in their second and final concert to date. It does make sense that they would be the Foo Fighters tribute for this year, so if you liked them in 2017, here's your next chance! In a time where Parabol, Coral Fang, and Poison Girl can all exist as local tribute bands, why not one more? However, only singer/guitarist Jules Cote (with Dave Grohl wig in tow) will be back for their return, as he will now be joined by ex-2 Minute Warning guitarist Wes Greco, Jules' Chunks of Manh bandmate Max Ambeault on bass, and Elements/Winkstinger drummer Jonas Gasperas, all replacing Jeremey Salatuk and John & Jonny Amendola.
A reason for the lineup departures has not been announced, but remember that this lineup was from two years ago, and Jules & the Amendolas haven't played together with their primary pop rock cover band Cherry Crush since August of last year, so we would be considering them to be inactive for SMS purposes. The new lineup seems promising, but how will they sound at this year's Halloween party? Stay tuned for updates, and unless this proves to be a one-off, The Soo Fighters are back in our active band links!
Also today, I wanted to acknowledge a solo musician being moved to our inactive band links, namely Mike Cliffe. A constant presence in our band links as long as we've had them, Mike is a skilled veteran guitarist whose progressive and often heavy originals are always worth listening to, but as you may know, his music was increasingly entwined with his work as the host and curator of the local music podcast Audiofumes. The 24 archive episodes showcase an eclectic collection of music from the Soo and far flung locations that would be more than at home on public or freeform radio, and collaborations between Mike and artists heard on Audiofumes were once very common. While I have never found a statement confirming it's status. no new episodes have been posted since April of last year, nothing has been posted on the Audiofumes or Sound Bacon pages reflecting Mike's music or new episodes since last summer, and the Audiofumes Facebook group is now largely used as a posting board for songs and some local concerts.
Mike's a very nice guy and an extremely creative musician, so whether or not the podcast ever resurfaces, I hope he dives back into his own music again when the time is right, and you can hear lots of his surviving music on his Reverbnation page. As one of the few Sault Ontario-originated rock radio/podcasting outlets, Audiofumes deserved more listeners, and with the diverse, unconventional array of music in each installment, there was always something to hear and nothing you expect! We'll let you know if Mike and/or Audiofumes return to activity in some form in the future!
We'll close today with a new teaser video for local Tool tribute band Parabol's headlining concert at Soo Blaster on October 12th, as shared to their Facebook page on Thursday! Featuring an assortment of new-ish images and band logos alongside some opening post-production effects, the video is set to a bunch of assorted audio clips of the guys playing live, and while it'd be nice to hear the full songs, you do get a sense of how faithful their sound is to the real thing! (Updated at 8:42 PM) I wasn't planning a news post today, but when I realized that there was a SHORT NOTICE LOCAL CONCERT ALERT for an annual festival this weekend featuring an established hard rock band, I couldn't knowingly ignore it! To round things out, we have news on a surprising move to our inactive band links, a new cover video, and some assorted recent updates, so here's what you should knowon this rainy Friday!
Kinross, Michigan classic/hard rock cover trio Banned will return to The Sugar Island Music Festival in nearby Sugar Island (of course) for shows once again TONIGHT & TOMORROW NIGHT! Profuse apologies for the short notice, Banned only acknowledged their return to the annual festival on their Facebook page today, and while the lineup was previously listed at some point after June 20th on the festival's newly redesigned website, I can't confirm how soon that was. Either way, I should have checked in advance! Banned's sets this year are as the headliners TONIGHT at 9:30 PM and as the 9th of 13 bands at 6:30 PM TOMORROW, and as usual, the lineup is largely comprised of country and folk acts without online pages. Save for Jack Grim & Friends, all of TONIGHT'S acts are playing TOMORROW, so keep that in mind as well! Look for recent regular bands 3-Zip, All Arms, 3½
Men, and 2¢ both nights, plus Grassholes17 opening both lineups, and Gary's

Next up, this post originally had a note regarding local hardcore punk quintet Destroilet being moved to our inactive band links due to the deletion of their Facebook page, but reports of their demise are premature! Drummer Matt Waples revealed on a post there that the page unpublished itself for one reason or another, hence it's apparent removal, and they confirmed that they are still active, just in the midst of jam space renovations, and will be back "later, rather than sooner." Crisis averted, it's great to see that they're alive, so they're back with Facebook page in our active links, and apologies for any inconvenience this write-up caused!
Also, here's a new YouTube channel upload from prolific local hard rock guitarist and Audiofumes podcast host Mike Cliffe! A cover of Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt" (specifically the more famous Johnny Cash version), this features Mike on both guitar & piano alongside Swedish singer Karin Beckerus and bassist Stuart Geary, who you may recognize from prior Audiofumes collaborations of Mike's posted to YouTube, like this Stranglers cover from 2014. The vocals seem a little tersely worded, but it's a well done cover that preserves the Cash version's mood, so give it a listen below!

Local punk/country quintet The Billy Bastards
will reunite for a set at Destroilet guitarist Christian
Foisy's stag & doe on October 21st at The Croatian Hall! We
don't cover stag & does as public concerts on the site, given
their personal nature, but it's great to see The Billys back together
after 2 years away, so keep this event in mind if you know Christian
& Katlyn! Unless public confirmation comes out to say otherwise,
we're currently treating this as a one-off reunion.
Local hard rock quintet Skeyes of Seven have been added to the lineup of the Eye of Horus concert at The Canadian Nightclub on August 27th, as per the official Facebook event page on August 1st! This will be Skeyes of Seven's first concert since June 2015,
their Live705 debut, and their first gig with new second guitarist Kyle
Sweet. It has been way too long to see Skeyes of Seven rock a local
stage again, so keep their return in mind for in two weeks! Note as well
that the show's lineup order is newly finalized, with The Bear Hunters headlining and the touring bands playing second & fourth for unannounced reasons.
Curious for more details on Slumshine, the new band playing the Oh!No 2017 Music Festival
in Leeburn on September 9th? Well, as it turns out, they're the new
(solo?) project from former Detroit/Maximum RNR frontman and Lion Ride
bassist Brenton Ellis, and you can hear him/them before the festival
when Slumshine opens for Montreal folk act The Ghostly Hounds
at The Gore Street Cafe the week before! This scheduling suggests to me
that Slumshine aren't a heavier or punk project (at least, not an
electric one), but if we hear anything to the contrary, we'll let you
know. Either way, it's great to see Brent back in a new musical act!

Before we recap the results of last night's VM Radio Battle's opening night, here's a new news post to clear out some recent items, including a sudden new EP release, a unique video, and more, but first, here's some honestly overdue news on a big upcoming concert event!
We'll start today with some big updates for the fifth annual Swampstravaganza, now at The Canadian Nightclub on Saturday, May 9th, including that the annual multi-band all ages concert now has an official website! Created through Wix, the page includes photos and band lists for the past 4 installments at The Oddfellows Hall, an official logo, a $10 admission fee, and confirmation that this year's Swampfest will begin at 5:00 PM with the first band starting at 6:00 PM, with timeslots alotted for just 8 bands. This would make this year's event the smallest yet in the Swampfest series, but it would allow for a more manageable schedule! Also, the former "Sewer Swampstravaganza" branding is now only designated for the first year's concert in 2011, with "Quagmire", "Marshland", and "Bog" replacing "Sewer" to label later installments (no word on what this year's swamp-esque name would be.) As for confirmed bands, there's such high demand for this year that promoters have opted to roll out official band registration forms to apply to play, so what should you know on them?
We won't get into the legal jargon, but full details on what bands should bring and expect can be read at this link, where you can also sign up to potentially play this year, and what you need to provide in your application. I know many local artists want to play at this year's Swampstravaganza, so if you want in, act A.S.A.P. via the above links, stay tuned for updates, and the show's website is now in our "Other Local Metal Links"!
Next up, here's the latest from a solo performer from last year's Swampstravaganza, that being Haggith drummer Mike Haggith, so what's he currently up to? yesterday, Mike put a new digital EP named "Of Cars & Criminals" on sale via his Bandcamp page, which compiles three songs from his upcoming full length studio album "The Warinside". The EP (which is available on a "name your price" model) features the title track, "The Snake", and his newest song "We Met As Surrogates", which was just unveiled on his YouTube channel yesterday as well. Featuring Haggith/Din bandmate Curtis McKenzie on guest guitar and/or backing vocals on all 3 tracks, this EP is a nice teaser for fans awaiting "The Warinside" in full, but we'll hold on a review of this EP until the full album's expected release, as it'd be redundant to review both. Local all-female hard rock/punk quartet The Danger Cats have unveiled their first ever studio-produced original song via their new Reverbnation page! It's of their song "Wanted Man", which was produced by AlgomA's Jamie Vincent and mixed by Cross Dog's Mark Rand, according to their Facebook page. It's nice to hear a great quality version of one of their originals, and fans should love it, so check it out at the above link, and don't miss the girls at the VM Radio Battle of the Bands next week!
The Hiroshima Mutant Mindframe, the local/London solo metal project from Our Place Or Yours guitarist Matt Parr, now has a few new songs uploaded to their Soundcloud page in the past month! They include two acoustic songs (named "Huh" & "A Very Special Acoustic Song", the latter being longer and better composed) and the 49 second unfinished "Heavytrack" (no space) that has a lot of djent-heavy potential! Give them a listen above!
Local musician Tammy Hill is looking for a singer, guitarist, and drummer to start a punk rock band that would play both originals and covers, as per her post on the Musicians Wanted Facebook group on February 19th. If you're interested in trying out, message Tammy above or at this link!

We're back with some more news and notes on this Tuesday morning, and if you're waiting for news on the battle of the bands at the Chippewa County Fair on Thursday, that's coming, I'm just waiting for word on the complete lineup if possible. Today, we have new material from a local guitarist, some updates relating to links on the site and their connection to a recent feature post, and all of the latest from a notable metal musician's recent weekend in the area, but first, here's some news on the bands playing at the next metal show in Sault Ontario!
The lineup for Friday night's Skull Fist-headlined concert at The Canadian Nightclub has taken a lot of hits in the last few days, with two band dropouts, leaving only the returning Late & Loud as a confirmed local opening band. One of the dropped bands is local deathcore quartet The Valentine's Day Massacre, and though an official reason for their exit hasn't been revealed, frontman Steve Rhodes' personal Facebook page indicated that he was leaving for London (where the band are collectively moving for college) tomorrow, which is earlier than we'd previously heard, so that's likely connected. It'll be disappointing to not see the guys one last time before they head down south (if you saw them at the F.A.T.I.L. Requiem, nice work!), but hopefully they'll be back on holidays & breaks & what have you to melt more local faces, and best of luck to the guys in London until then! The other exited band is local punk trio Redundant (who had replaced Frightlight on the bill initially), as per their quiet removal from the event page, though I have no idea why they're out. I was hoping to see them too, but they'll be back for some more shows sooner or later, especially with the recent frequency of them!
Whether new bands will be added to replace The V.D.M. or Redundant isn't known yet, but knowing how big Skull Fist shows here tend to be, there's already visible interest from some bands in potentially jumping on board! Besides, we still have Late & Loud opening (even with some disappointing news I'm waiting for more confirmation on before mentioning here), so keep posted for more on this show in a couple of days, and I hope to see you guys there!
Next up, here's more notes and information from ex-Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach's weekend jaunt to Sault Ontario for the "Swearnet" film shoot with The Trailer Park Boys cast! Beyond just filming scenes for the movie, some lucky Saultites were lucky enough to see Sebastian at some local bars over the weekend, including a stop at LopLops Lounge on Saturday night to see local country band The Wild Turkeys, and I heard he stayed for their whole set too, which is awesome of him! Before leaving, Sebastian also shared this Last Supper-esque photo from the Soo on his Facebook page of him with Swearnet/T.P.B. stars John Paul Tremblay, Robb Wells, and Mike Smith, along with two more familiar guest stars in the movie (comedian Tom Green and Pat Roach, a.k.a. Randy from The Trailer Park Boys), so it sounds like the deck is being stacked for names in "Swearnet"! For the record, I heard that Tom Green was at LopLops on Saturday too, which would have been cool in & of itself! Finally for our Sebastian Bach notes, while he didn't play a live solo concert while in town, lucky fans at The Canadian Nightclub on Friday night got the next best thing, as Sebastian stopped by for karaoke night, and there's video footage online to prove it!
Filmed by YouTube user sisuunicorn705 and uploaded on Saturday, this is of Sebastian and Bubbles himself, Mike Smith singing AC/DC's "T.N.T." in honour of Mike's early birthday, and though the quality isn't great (dark lighting, extremely loud, and staticy audio), it's great to see this footage, and it must have been something else to see Sebastian live (and doing karaoke at a local bar no less!) I'm still kicking myself that I missed this, as I live right near The Canadian and really enjoy Skid Row's later work with Sebastian, so this is like missing Michael Moore at Sault College all over again. Still, this must have made many a night this weekend, so check out Sebastian Bach singing karaoke in the Soo below, and trust me, turn your volume down!
Thirdly, here's a couple of notes relating to some research and links that I took in for our profile of As It Stands drummer John Mignacca's YouTube channel on Wednesday. First, I've added a new link to our Other Local Metal Links section on the left of the page, that being the MySpace page for John's old concert promotion company Infamous Productions! John promoted concerts (mostly of the hardcore variety) from roughly 2006-2007 under this banner (including the 2006 Blind Witness show promoted in this commercial), though as far as I can tell, the company itself fell inactive by 2008. There's not a whole lot on their MySpace page beyond some old concert advertisements & lineups, but there's some neat looks back in the comments and so on, so check out Infamous Productions at the above links, and stay tuned for future concerts that John puts on! The other note is a link removal from that section, as the Facebook group for GLOW Nightclub has been taken down for unknown reasons. The Gore Street bar/concert spot previously known as The Nite-Life Dance Club & The Other Place was last used in November 2010, but the closure of the Facebook group came much later than that, and it probably wasn't a huge surprise. Still, it's a nice venue that I'd love to see restarted, but who knows what the future holds!
Finally, here's a brand new solo performance video from local solo guitarist and AudioFumes podcast host Mike Cliffe! Though he's been busy with his podcasting over the summer, this video is Mike's real solo performance clip in 3 or 4 months, so if you've missed his original music, rejoice! Entitled "SoundBacon", it's a work in progress experimental instrumental that Mike adlibbed and filmed, and while he notes the mistakes, it has promise and creativity! It ranges from what sounds like progressive rock elevator music to some more melodic and heavier melodies later on, and Mike shows his skills well here even if refinement is needed! Why play so far off to the left though, and in the dark? Uploaded to his YouTube channel on Saturday, you can check out "SoundBacon" below, and also, you guys should check out and submit original material to Mike's AudioFumes podcasts! He's increasing his local playlist selections for Audiofumes streams, which are sort of like an internet streaming radio show without a station if you're not familiar with podcasting. Mike gets worldwide airplay and he plays a wide variety of bands and musical partners from all over on AudioFumes, so listen in and get schedules at this location, message Mike at this link if you wanna submit any songs to play on air, and AudioFumes are now in our Other Local Metal Links!

Anyone in the mood for some more local metal news and notes? Well, this post should cover that! Today, we've got new video footage from one local band's return and another video from another band's most recent show, plus details on a band with a local connection looking to play here, and much more, so here's what you need to know!
The first video footage of Caveman Morrison's new lineup is now online, courtesy of frontman Tym Morrison's YouTube channel! An attendee at their concert on Saturday night at The Roosevelt Hotel shot at least six videos of the current Caveman Morrison lineup (including bassist James White and the returning Rick White on drums), and Tym posted them onto his YouTube channel over the past few hours. The videos are of Caveman Morrison covering Stevie Ray Vaughan's "Pride & Joy", Neil Young's "Rockin' In The Free World", Judas Priest's "The Ripper", Foreigner's "Blue Morning, Blue Day", a cut off portion of Pink Floyd's "Another Brick In The Wall", and (as embedded below) Ozzy Osbourne's "Crazy Train", so visit the above links to see the new lineup in action! The video quality isn't spectacular, and the lighting in The Rosie still needs to be boosted, but the audio quality works, and Tym & company sound good for their first weekend! Rick's drumming flows well and James is definitely a great fit on bass, so there's nothing to fear from the new members! Nice to get lots of new footage, though the crowd doesn't seem too large from what I heard at the end of the videos. Also in new videos, here's some newly posted video footage of local hardcore quintet As It Stands, who are returning to activity at the end of the month for a concert at The Elks Hall in Espanola on the 29th, so click here for details on their return after 5 months away from the stage! The new video is actually also from an out of town gig that As It Stands played this year, and their most recent to date, that being their set at the Rocking on the River festival in Blind River on July 30th, and it's of As It Stands covering Blink-182's "Stay Together For The Kids"! Uploaded by YouTube user dacelk yesterday, the angle is sort of far from the stage, but the band are in solid form as you'd expect, and this Blink-182 song is always nicely metallified by this talented local metalcore band! If only more people were there to see it. Kudos to dacelk for uploading this, and fingers crossed that we see As It Stands back on a local stage shortly, we've missed them over the fall! Check out their cover of "Stay Together For The Kids" in Blind River below!
Next up, I've recently heard about an out of town band looking for a local booking, and if you follow our Saultites In Out Of Town Bands Profile Series, these guys might be familiar! The band in question is Victoria, British Columbia sleaze rock quintet The Lust Boys (featuring former Glass Statues guitarist Ben "Benny Blitz" Kemp-Reynolds), and I've heard from both frontman Jayme Daniel Black & band manager Joe Sunstrum in the past week for inquiries about local bookings here for the spring. The Lust Boys are touring Canada in a few months, and they're scheduled to roll through Sault Ste. Marie on March 30th, so the band are hoping to get a booking lined up for that day in town. I sent Jayme some booker contact info and directed Joe the same way, but in the event that doesn't work out, I'll send the word out to the public to help The Lust Boys Soo concert quest, so if you are interested in booking, hosting, or helping The Lust Boys play a local show on March 30th, e-mail lustboys.management@gmail.com A.S.A.P.! It'd be awesome to have The Lust Boys' glam and punk influenced sound here, and seeing Ben live on stage in town again would be cool for sure!

I'll likely be moving Sault Michigan metal quartet Intrepid to our inactive band links on Saturday due to inactivity, barring a new sign of life. The Guitar Studio products (featuring Mitch Goetz of Hoist The Sails) were last visibly active on December 17th of last year when they updated fans on their Facebook page as to how they did at a battle of the bands. Disappointing, as they had promise, but hopefully the members keep active locally!
Local solo artist Mike Cliffe is looking for local bands to submit original material to be featured on his upcoming AudioFumes podcasts, which do get airplay and notice from non-local sources, so this could be some good exposure if you jump on board! Mike's reach extends far with his musical projects, and Sykotyk Rampage were featured this past Thursday, so e-mail audiofumes@gmail.com for details!
Sault Michigan classical metal trio Theatre of Night's remastered debut album "Christmas Night" is now available to purchase on iTunes! It goes for $9.99 there or for 99¢ a song, and plans are in place to release the album onto Amazon and eMusic as well. Pick it up today if you haven't already for some great seasonal metal and classical music!
