It took almost 5½ years, but here is our third all-video post from the Dokken/Firehouse concert at GFL Memorial Gardens (then known as the Essar Centre) in September 2017! The reason this show is back on our radar is because promoters Superior Entertainment recently launched a new Facebook page and have been posting media from their concerts there, primarily from this show. The only concert videos uploaded there so far come from this event, and none were previously featured on the SMS, at least not via a link that works in 2023. I'm not sure if the new Superior Entertainment page is part of a planned relaunch for the Sault Michigan-based concert/MMA promoters or just a way to (re-)post old event materials, but note that their newest post is a gag poll asking what artist that inactive(?) local hard rock band Bucksaw should cover next. If Bucksaw have reunited, this is the only post that I have seen to confirm it so far, but I'll let you know if anything else is said.
None of the videos on Superior Entertainment's Facebook page (all unlabelled) come from Dokken's set, but co-headlining South Carolina hair metal quartet Firehouse's set was captured in two videos, including a 29 second clip of them playing "All She Wrote" and, as embedded below, a 1:41 clip of them playing the second half of their power ballad "Love Of A Lifetime", albeit filmed sideways from the 5 second mark onward. Why upload it based on the original orientation, I don't know, but the two videos sound good for fans, and Firehouse were good to the Sault area in the early-mid 2010s, so give these a watch above & below!
The other three live videos on the channel come from Los Angeles/Saskatoon arena rock quartet Love 'N Revenge's opening set, though two videos are just 13 seconds long and I can't identify the song performed in one of them (the other is a cover of Rockarma's "Bring It"). Embedded below is their cover of Skid Row's "Youth Gone Wild", and props to frontman Damon Kelly for sounding admirably like Sebastian Bach here! This clip runs for barely over one minute, but like the "All She Wrote" video, you get a good look at the stage from the vantage point of this stationary camera, and the band's on point, so check these out above & below as well!
Finally for the new/old videos is a re-post of a promotional clip for this concert featuring the members of Firehouse (except frontman C.J. Snare) that was first posted onto Superior Entertainment's now deleted Facebook page on September 29th, 2017, the day before the concert took place. Kewadin Casino concert-goers in particular won't be too surprised by touring bands plugging their show here like this, but this was notable as Firehouse had already arrived in town, so check it out (again) below!
As of this writing, the Superior Entertainment Facebook page otherwise features photos of event posters and the events proper, be they from Dreammakers Theater hard rock concerts or MMA cards, so do check everything out at this link, especially if this is setting the stage for a return to booking live events in 2023. That's all for today, but stay tuned for weekend concert previews on the site next! Thanks everyone!
With weekend concert previews and our latest monthly feature post in the rear view, let's get back into regular news and updates on the SMS with this news post, featuring some assorted updates, new videos, and a long awaited album release! Here's what you should know!
Over three weeks after it's Toronto release at the Vans Warped Tour, local punk trio Redundant have finally released their self-titled debut EP for digital download on Friday! The EP features five songs, namely "By Myself", "Miles Apart", "Should've Known", "That December", and "What Will You Do" (a.k.a. The Scary Uncles' "Labatt 50"), and you can buy it for $4.95 on iTunes, Google Play, and Amazon, while you can stream the EP for free on both Spotify and Apple Music. As far as I can tell, Redundant haven't posted the EP on Bandcamp, for what that's worth. No word yet on physical in-store availability, let alone their next local gigs, but could they be saving that for a proper local release concert? We'll hold our thoughts on "Redundant" for our forthcoming review of the EP, but when can you expect to see that on the SMS? Honestly, I don't know, as we have quite a log jam of new albums to review right now, with Mike McCleary, Sykotyk Rampage, and SweetKenny also waiting in the wings for their newest releases.
If any of the four acts play a public live concert this month, our choice would be easy as a more direct tie-in, but I don't believe any have one scheduled. As the newest of the four, Redundant has more wiggle room, assuming I can review all four this year, but I guarantee we'll review Redudnant's EP on the site soon! This has been a long road to get this released and completed, and the production quality's top notch, so visit the above links to hear/buy Redundant's first EP!
Next up, here's some new videos, starting with two Facebook videos from Sault Michigan hard rock quartet Project 906's headlining concert at The Superior Cafe/Bird's Eye Outfitters on Friday! One video was uploaded via local music store Crooked Music's Facebook page, and it features the guys covering Wolfmother's "The Joker & The Thief". Though it runs for just a minute, the quality's good, and Billy's vocals are a nice fit with this rendition! If you're hoping for a longer video or a less sharp camera angle, this video shared from attendee Cindi Jenkins' personal Facebook page should suffice! This is a cover of AC/DC's "You Shook Me All Night Long", which is similarly well handled and lively, and fans of theirs should be right at home with this performance! Give it a look below, see more above, and don't miss Project 906 in Rudyard on Saturday!
Also today, here's a new solo performance video of Chronic Demonic guitarist Kevin Powe, courtesy of that band's Facebook page, which see him playing the Sault Ontario notable covering what I believe to be Entombed's "Wolverine Blues" (it's "old school Swedish death 'n roll" at any rate!) Solid rhythm track that he has a good handle on, but will this song be in the long awaited live repertoire of Chronic Demonic? Give it a look below!
Finally for today, here's three assorted shorter news items from the last while, and as usual, these are in alphabetical order by band or venue name:
New local surf rock quartet The Dynowaves (featuring Lion Ride and Bizotic alumni) have been added as the second openers for the Carried Away concert at The Rockstar Bar on August 28th, as per the Facebook event page last week. The Dynowaves have gotten some positive notices since debuting with their locally unique sound, and this should be a nice showcase for their surf rock stylings! Yes, we know they're playing at The Northern Vibe Festival, stay tuned for coverage of that when full daily timeslots are announced!
As per it's new naming rights agreement, and as a tie to the former Sault Memorial Gardens, The Essar Center formally changed it's name to GFL Memorial Gardens on August 1st, complete with a redesigned website. Physical signage and advertising will be slowly rolled out to reflect the name change, so keep tabs on local news media (or head downtown) for updates. The new name isn't bad, and it's great to see the Memorial Gardens name back in action, but how long before a hard rock or punk concert comes there again?
In the first formal reveal of their new lineup, Sault Michigan classic/hard rock cover band Highway 63 have added former Absolute, NoXcape, and Exiled drummer Justin Lawless to the band, replacing Ron Suchey, as per a post share on their Facebook page yesterday. A reason for Ron's departure wasn't publically announced, but hopefully nothing bad happened, and don't miss him and fellow (former?) Highway 63 bandmates in Cousin Eddie. Justin's a solid drummer who should fit in fine with Highway 63, so stay tuned for more updates from them as they roll in!
That's all for today, but stay tuned for more news and updates on the site this week! Thanks everyone!
Having just attended last night's All The Wasted Years concert, you can expect a review and videos later today, but for now, let's keep the news rolling to kick off this new month! Today on the SMS, we have some assorted news and notes, the latest from a prominent Sault Michigan band, and to lead off, here's a concert preview for tomorrow night!
We'll start with the delayed conclusion of this weekend's hard rock concert previews, and this one will pique the interest of you metal fans, as Dartmouth, Nova Scotia metal trio Dumpster Mummy will return to Sault Ontario for a concert at The New American Pub TOMORROW NIGHT! This will be the headliners' first local concert appearance since headlining at The New A in September 2016, though unlike that concert, this one had plenty of advance notice. With a chaotic, fast paced death and groove metal sound that will appeal to extreme metal heads, Dumpster Mummy will be a fine choice to kick off the summer metal season in said genres, so don't miss them tomorrow! Local support will include the first concert of 2018 from death/extreme metal quartet Winkstinger, while local goregrind solo project Crucify the Whore will also return to the stage tomorrow for Tyler's first public, non-house party show as C.T.W. since Dumpster Mummy's 2016 show here, ironically enough.
I don't know why C.T.W. (let alone Blood Shed Productions) were so quiet over 2017, but hopefully this is a big return show for this explosive one-man band tomorrow! Promoted by Winkstinger frontman Josh Amendola, this 19+ concert has a 9:00 PM and a $5 cover charge. This early stop on Dumpster Mummy's 2018 Canadian tour should be a great time for metalheads, despite the Sunday night placement, so visit the official Facebook event page for more details, and here are the headliners live!
Next up, you know how Sault Michigan classical metal project Theatre of Night often posts snippets of them recording new music that never seems to lead to a new album? Well, it appears we weren't looking in the right spot, as they have put out two new albums since 2012, but as they're curiously exclusive to their Reverbnation page, they've fallen under the radar. Along with their two holiday-themed albums from the early 2010s and a posting of their defunct sister band End of Existence's CD, one of these surprise albums is entitled "Darkness Falls", as released on February 19th, 2015, and features 9 symphonic, gothic-inspired instrumental compositions. The other new album is called "Guntower Democracy", which was only released in February of this year, and was described by keyboardist Craig Harrison in some postings at the time as "some 'old school' stuff Steve (Giles) and I wrote a while back." Unlike every other release Theatre of Night album, this is not an orchestral-centric instrumental release, and harbours more in common with Craig's old band Dust 'N Bones.
Both albums are on sale on Reverbnation for $4.99 or 99¢ a song, but you can stream all included songs for free there. Theatre of Night would get more exposure of these albums if they posted them on more sites like Bandcamp (hence why I'm so late to the party), but if you've liked their prior recording videos or Craig's vocal performance clips, these will be of high interest! That all said, a review of "Guntower Democracy" could make the site next month, as time is ticking for it to be "new" release, but I can't guarantee anything yet. Before we move on from Theatre of Night updates, they do have a brand new video to check out via their YouTube channel on Sunday, and it's of Craig at the keyboard composing "a new epic soundtrack song for future use." Shades of SweetKenny's array of scores, or is something else afoot? In any event, the song is very orchestral and beautiful in this early stage, so give it a look below, and stay tuned for more from their camp!
Finally for today, here's three assorted shorter news items from the
last while, and as usual for these short form stories, these are in alphabetical order by artist, venue, or event name:
As widely covered in local news media last month, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario's City Council has approved the offer made by Green For Life Environmental Inc. (the Soo's recycling contractor) to take over naming rights for The Essar Centre, with it's name becoming GFL Memorial Gardens effective August 1st as part of a 10 year, $750,000 deal. Response has been mixed from what I've seen, but the Memorial Gardens name being restored is welcomed, and remember that GFL's president is Sault Ste. Marie native and former OHL goaltender Patrick Dovigi. Keep the impending new name in mind for concerts and games starting in August!
Peace Vibe/Flat Stanley drummer Glen Thomas is looking to play live more regularly than his current bands' schedules, and is open to playing as a full time or fill-in performer with a local band. Glen has ample musical experience in many genres, and has played with metal bands back in the day, and hard rock more recently with Mourning Wood. If you're interested in his services in any genre, message him at this link or via his Musicians Wanted Facebook group post from last week for more details!
Registrations are now open for the third monthly Musician's Showcase at The Superior Cafe in Sault Michigan, so head to Crooked Music on Ashmun Street to get signed up to perform! Slots are expected to fill up quickly for the showcase, which will take place on Saturday, June 30th. Might we hear some hard rock acts again? We'll find out as the month progresses, but don't hesitate if you want in!
That's all for now, but stay tuned for our review of last night's All The Wasted Years concert on the site next! Thanks everyone!
Today's post is devoted to more videos from last month's Dokken-headlined concert at The Essar Center in Sault Ontario from two different sources, and we'll start the remainder of videos from Christopher Paci's YouTube channel! We originally featured his Love 'N Revenge videos in our first Dokken concert fallout post on Monday, in order to ensure that all three bands were covered there, but he did film the other two bands, despite a 3 day delay for videos from Dokken's set for one reason or another. Chris made the wait worth it though, with seven videos of the Los Angeles hair metal band being uploaded earlier this week, and they include their songs "In My Dreams", "Maddest Hatter", "Dream Warriors", "Breaking the Chains", "Into The Fire", "Don't Close Your Eyes", and as embedded below, "Alone Again".
Filmed from the front row or very close to it, Chris has a great angle with nice audio quality, but after hearing these, I agree that Don's voice isn't what it used to be. He can still carry a tune though, particularly on slower songs, and fans helped on the bigger hits! Give Chris' Dokken videos a look above and below, and kudos to Chris for all of his hard work!
Today's remaining videos come from promoters Superior Entertainment's Facebook page from the days surrounding the concert, and while short and only focused on Firehouse, it's nice to see some more video footage! This clip is of 30 seconds from the end of "Shake & Tumble" and beginning of "All She Wrote", so it's nothing that we haven't already seen from Chris Paci, but the audio sounds pretty good, and the camera is mounted at a good angle, so check it out below!
Finally, this 17 second clip of the members of Firehouse (sans frontman C.J. Snare) went online the day before the concert, and it just serves as a pre-show commercial. Nice to get some direct hype, especially considering that they were already here in the Soo when it was shot, so give it a belated look below, and apologies for missing it at the time!
That's all for today, but stay tuned for a new news post on the site tomorrow! Thanks everyone!
Happy Thanksgiving to our Canadian readers! Today's post is our long-delayed fallout post from the Dokken-headlined concert at The Essar Center back on September 30th, so what what all went down over a week ago? Well, SooToday's Donna Hopper was on hand for the show, covering it in this article from the following day, where she noted that assembled fans enjoyed the concert, despite a low attendance of only around 800 fans. Hey, it's better than the Jackyl concert got nine years ago, if that counts! The article features some interview remarks from attendees, including some disappointment at the turnout, while Donna did get 22 photos from the event, including 8 of the headliners, 7 of Firehouse, 3 of Love 'N Revenge, and four of fans, and they're of predictably great quality, so give them a look above! This wasn't all for online local news coverage of the show, as Sault Online columnist Ernest Skinner covered a different side of things for his post-concert article, so what should you know about that?
In a nutshell, the article is about Ernest picking up Firehouse in Sault Michigan to bring them across the border for the concert and interviewing them en route, before focusing on the concert proper and happenings pre- and post-show, such as the afterparty hosted by Gliss Steak & Seafood, and talking with Don Dokken himself the next morning. Very cool of Ernest to not only get this kind of inside access with the hair metal legends, but to also share this in-depth story online, so definitely check out his article for a different side of a major local concert like this! In terms of videos, there are surprisingly none of Dokken yet that are publically viewable on YouTube or Facebook at press time... but there is one on Instagram! Uploaded to the Instagram page of local progressive metal band Kraken Mara (more on that in the coming days), this is of Dokken playing their classic song "Into The Fire" that night! The guys don't sound bad from what we hear, though the full song wasn't filmed.
As for Don's singing voice, he sounds fine here, but I am aware that some social media posts noted that his voice wasn't as strong as it used to be. Whether that's factoring into the lack of public videos or not is up for debate, but note that Ernest said that he sounded great in his Sault Online article. Good central angle and solid audio, so give this one a look below!
A post shared by Kraken Mara (@kraken_maraband) on
Kraken Mara also uploaded a video to Instagram of openers Firehouse playing their song "All She Wrote" at a similar upper-backdrop-heavy angle, and they sound pretty good too, and about on par from from the Kewadin Casino videos of theirs that I've seen! Familiar song with energy, so fans will be happy with this one, even incomplete, so check it out below too! Note that one more video is up on Kraken Mara's page, but it's a pre-set video with Guns N' Roses' "You Could Be Mine' over the P.A., and no live bands playing at that point, but watch for a surprise walk-by cameo.
A post shared by Kraken Mara (@kraken_maraband) on
Finally for this first fallout post, I wanted to acknowledge opening act Love 'N Revenge, who I've also only seen videos from via one source, namely Christopher Paci's excellent YouTube channel! Yes, Chris was at this concert, but he curiously didn't film Dokken's set (that, or his videos are very delayed), and we'll absolutely touch on his Firehouse videos in an upcoming post. His Love N' Revenge videos feature the Los Angeles arena rock group covering frontman Damon Kelly's old band Rockarma's songs "That's All" and "Bring It", but embedded below is their own original song "It's Rock 'N Roll". Though a relatively new and unfamiliar band compared to who played later that night, Love 'N Revenge's sound was a great fit, with their own originals meshing well with the Rockarma holdovers, and their sound has a good high energy that would fit well on The Hair Scare! Give Chris' solid videos a look above and below, and stay tuned for Chris' Firehouse clips!
That's all for now, but stay tuned for some special mid-week concert previews on the site next, and yes, we'll touch on extra videos from the above concert later this week too! Thanks everyone!
(Updated on Saturday at 12:31 AM) A quiet but eventful weekend of concerts is upon us to help end the month of September, and with no currently known short notice gigs, let's get right into what's going down for hard rock fans, starting with a SHORT NOTICE LOCAL CONCERT ALERT!
Former Caveman Morrison frontman Tym Morrison has his usual solo acoustic gigs at Gliss Steak & Seafood TONIGHT, TOMORROW, and SATURDAY, but Tym will also return to The Barrelhouse Wine & Whiskey on Queen Street East THIS SATURDAY NIGHT! Profuse apologies for the short notice on the Barrelhouse show (this post was edited on Saturday to add it), as it was only announced via it's official Facebook event page on Friday night. Now four weeks into a run where Tym plays a nighttime gig alongside his ongoing long-term Gliss arrangement, keep all four of this weekend's shows in mind for some entertaining hard rock covers, be you taking in the Gliss matinees or SATURDAY NIGHT's return to the popular downtown tapas restaurant for a second straight week! Yes, we'll touch on Tym's expected October gigs next week, we won't forget about them!
While there are no cover charges, mind the restaurant locale of these four shows, with the Gliss gigs being 6:00 PM events with no age limit, and SATURDAY'S Barrelhouse show being 19+ at 10:30 PM. Visit the Facebook event pages linked here & here for more details, and here's Tym live!
Next up, we'll head to The Canadian Nightclub, where local alternative hard rock trio The Din and fellow alt/punk trio Handsome Sandwich will join forces for their own concert TOMORROW NIGHT! After some earlier public uncertainty about this show's status, The Din have since verified that it's still on, meaning that their third-to-last concert (and last outside of LopLops) before their upcoming disbandment is on, so don't miss out on this one before it's too late! Material from their forthcoming second and final CD will be played along with older classics in what The Din are promising will be "a special night", so keep that in mind too! As for Handsome Sandwich, this will be their first live concert since the Oh!No Festival in Leeburn earlier this month, and first in Sault Ste. Marie since July's Vaultry show at The Canadian. This unique band has been quiet on Facebook since that event, but hopefully they deliver a fun set to kick off tomorrow's festivities!
No cover charge is announced for this 19+ concert, which has a 9:30 PM start time. With The Din's time as an active band winding down, tomorrow's show is even more notable than it otherwise would be, so don't miss out, especially if you can't see them at LopLops next month! Visit the official Facebook event page for more details, and for a preview, here's The Din live at The Canadian earlier this year!
In a quick detour to the Eastern Upper Peninsula, we'll next look at the return of Traverse City, Michigan metal trio Scarkazm to our area, as they'll be rocking The Northern Pines Lounge at the Kewadin Shores Casino in St. Ignace TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT! Continuing a recent regular run of shows up north (having played St. Ignace and/or the Soo's Kewadin monthly since July), the Peril sister band should be in fine form for another high impact weekend of covers and perhaps originals, so don't miss Dave, Adam, and Jeff at the St. Ignace Kewadin tomorrow and/or Saturday! If you can't make this weekend's shows, Scarkazm will back in Sault Michigan in three weeks, and in St. Ignace in December. As usual for Scarkazm's gigs in our neck of the woods, expect 9:00 PM start times, no announced cover charges, and 21+ age limits this weekend. Visit the official Facebook event pages linked here & here for more details, and for a preview, here's Scarkazm live!
Finally for this weekend, a rare metal concert at The Essar Center will take place THIS SATURDAY NIGHT, as Los Angeles hair metal legends Dokken will make their long awaited return to our area! Almost 12 years removed from their set opening for Quiet Riot in Sault Michigan, fans will surely be rockin' with Dokken all night as they play hits like "Alone Again" & "Burning Like A Flame", so don't bypass this one if you're a hair metal fanatic! This will also be Dokken's first local gig with current bassist Chris McCarvill, having changed bassists thrice since their 2005 show here. North Carolina glam rockers FireHouse will join them in their third local concert set and first since 2014's Bret Michaels show in Sault Michigan, so look for more entertaining classics like "When I Look Into Your Eyes" & "Don't Treat Me Bad" in their first gig on the Canadian side of the border! Los Angeles melodic arena rock quartet Love 'N Revenge (fronted by Rockarma's Damon Kelly) will open in their local debut, who should pair well with the headliners!
A rare cross-border event courtesy of Sault Michigan concert/MMA promoters Superior Entertainment (of 2015's P.O.D. & Saving Abel shows), floor seats from the fifth row and back are still available for this all ages concert at 7:00 PM on Saturday, and tickets cost $62.15 (minus online service fees) at this link, at the in-person box office, or by phone at 1-866-775-9422. This should be a fun concert for hair metal lovers, and remember, if this show's a hit, it will encourage more major touring acts to play at The Essar Center in the future! Check the above links for more on this concert, and here's Dokken live earlier this year!
That's all for today, but stay tuned for more news and this month's CD review in the coming days! Thanks everyone!
Here's another new post for your Tuesday morning, so what can we find out today? Alongside some shorter recent stories, we have another recent video find that hadn't previously been shared here, and leading off, some long overdue news on a local metal band's surprising resurgence of activity, so here's what you should know!
We'll start today with some intriguing news from Sault Michigan classical metal project Theatre of Night, who are teasing a Christmas tour run to take place at some point over the winter! When you consider that this band's only public concert (that I'm aware of) took place backon Memorial Day 2013, this revelation four & a half years later is even more surprising! Keyboardist Craig Harrison has been teasing the planned tour in Facebook page posts since last month, with specific updates slowly making their way online in the ensuing weeks, and while a potential local date isn't confirmed yet, one comment reply implied shows would take place in the Grand Rapids area. Craig & guitarist Steve Giles have enlisted five extra musicians to join them on tour, and they include singers Jordan Flesch & Stacie McCarthy, former Elipzis guitarist Chris Webster (great to see him working with a local band again!), and bassist Scott Andringa of the Holland blues rock band Shame on Susan.
Finally, the lineup is rounded out by prolific Grand Rapids-area rock drummer Erik Sales (replacing the long-departed Greg Giles), who has performed with Stacie in some recent ventures there. How's that for a massive lineup? No word on if they're all official band members now or if they're just touring performers, or if Germany's Gaby Koss will still perform on studio material with Theatre of Night, but this all sounds very encouraging! There are precious few details on the tour proper at press time, but there are a decent amount of preview videos uploaded or shared to Theatre of Night's Facebook page of tour preparations, so here's what you should know on those! All comprised of Christmas carols in a symphonic metal style (remember their "Christmas Night" CD?), the videos include a preview of a studio version of "O Holy Night" with vocals, Craig playing "Silent Night" on the keyboard, and Jordan singing "Away In A Manger" in two videos (linked here & here). All are abbreviated previews, but you get a skilled sampling of what's to come!
The other two videos are of the full septet rehearsing in Holland, though "Away In A Manger" also serves as the preview carol in both. One video is a montage of Snapchat-style clips of rehearsals & preparation therein, but embedded below is a fuller video showing the band in action, though Craig and Chris don't play at this point, and Stacie is obscured from view. There is more to share from Theatre of Night unrelated to the tour, but for now, this is all very interesting to hear, and this will spice up the holiday season with some partially local T.S.O.-style action! Stay tuned for updates on the band & tour as they roll in, and give all of these videos a look above & below!
Next up, here's another new find from Obsession guitarist Gabe Tessaro's YouTube channel, this time from his old classic/hard rock quintet That's Chester's involvement in the local stage production of The Who's Tommy at The Machine Shop in Sault Ontario back in November 2015! Poignantly uploaded the day of bandmate Eugene Orlando's passing (three weeks after Tommy wrapped it's local run), this is of the early numbers "Captain Walker" & "It's A Boy", and while not heavy songs by any stretch, the guys handle things well on these softer numbers, and Gabe & Eugene have a nice moment where they take center stage to perform together! For reference, there's no sign of frontman Greg Simpson here, who's not visibly performing with the ensemble at this point in the production, but he did play Cousin Kevin and front other songs later on. The video has a nice camera angle from the balcony to show the whole stage, and it's worth a watch for The Who & That's Chester fans, so give it a look below!
Finally for today, here's three assorted shorter news items from the last while, and as usual, these stories are in alphabetical order by event, station, or venue name:
I have changed the link for Lake Superior State University's campus radio station The 46th Parallel Radio (WLSO, 90.1 FM) from their website to their Facebook page, as the former was taken down during LSSU website upgrading earlier this year. Though still broadcasting, the Sault Michigan station hasn't had an active online presence this year, had been off air when I scanned it over the summer, and have not visibly commenced their previously stated plans to move all station operations to internet streaming. Hopefully things pick up, but click here for details on the station and/or student volunteering with WLSO!
As documented in a SooToday article by David Helwig on Friday, Essar Center events manager Robert Santa Maria proposed a new system to create an event development fund so that the Sault Ontario arena can bring in more major touring events and concerts in which up to $1 from every ticket sold be put aside towards bringing more things here, capping at $50,000. Most responses seem to be positive, but will City Council approve the idea? Time will tell, but it'd be nice to have more concerts there beyond Dokken!
The ninth annual Soo Zombie Walk will return to The Canadian Bushplane Heritage Center on Saturday, October 21st for a fifth straight year, and music will return with it pre-walk once again! Performers have not been announced yet, but for reference sake, dormant blues/crash rock quartet Sykotyk Rampage and Northwest guitarist Greg Callaghan have each played the walk in the past 6 and 4 years respectively. Visit the official Facebook event page for current details on the walk, and stay tuned in case punk or metal music returns next month!
That's all for today, but stay tuned for more news and updates in the coming days! Thanks everyone!
We're back on this Monday evening witha new news post, so what will you find within? Some assorted recent updates, new videos from a recent concert, and leading off, a huge LOCAL CONCERT ALERT for this fall, so here's what you should know!
Platinum selling Los Angeles hair metal legends Dokken will return to the Sault Ste. Marie area for the first time in almost 12 years when they headline at The Essar Center on Saturday, September 30th! Last seen locally when they opened for Quiet Riot at the Sault Michigan Kewadin Casino in October 2005, Dokken should have a set full of hard rocking hits like "Breaking the Chains" & "Dream Warriors" in store when they rock the downtown arena this fall! This will also be Dokken's first regional stop with Chris McCarvill on bass (Barry Sparks was their bassist in 2005.) Joining them are North Carolina glam rockers FireHouse in their third local concert appearance, last seen opening for Bret Michaels in Sault Michigan in early 2014, with last year's Superior Music Festival being cancelled in the interim. With hits like "Don't Treat Me Bad" & "Love of a Lifetime" still in
their repertoire, this will be a great way to welcome Firehouse back to
the Soo, so don't miss them either!
Opening this show are Los Angeles melodic arena rock quartet Love 'N Revenge, a newer project from former Rockarma frontman Damon Kelly, and they should provide a nice compliment to kick off the night! As announced this morning on SooToday, The Sault Star, and Rock 101, tickets go on sale THIS FRIDAY for $55 (minus taxes and service charges) at this link, at the in-person box office, or by phone at 1-866-775-9422. Showtime is 7:00 PM, and this is an ALL AGES event. This should be an exciting show for Hair Scare loyalists, and remember, if this show is a hit, it'll encourage The Essar Center to bring in more hard rock shows! Check the above links for current details, and stay tuned for potential updates!
Next up, here's lots of video footage from the return of Project 421 at The Canadian Nightclub on Saturday night! As posted to their Facebook page yesterday, the local classic metal quartet brought their original and cover onslaught back after a nine month stage hiatus, and their whole hour-long set was filmed on a stationary camera, so what songs can you hear within? In order, we have Iron Maiden's "Running Free", Alice Cooper's "No More Mr. Nice Guy", Diamond Head's "Am I Evil?", Saxon's "Denim & Leather", Judas Priest's "Metal Gods", their original "No One Rides For Free", Iron Maiden's "Powerslave", Black Sabbath's "After Forever", their original "Into The Darkness", Metallica's "The Four Horsemen", and Iron Maiden's "The Trooper", so how's that for a nostalgia mindtrip (plus two originals)? The video quality isn't optimal, given that fans on the floor get in the way of the camera, which sadly wasn't zoomed in either, but the audio's fine!
You have to really crank it, especially if you're relying on laptop speakers, but the guys sound vibrant and energetic, and Blair Burch handles lead vocals fine and with conviction, though higher register songs like "The Trooper" fared worse. Of course, the Diamond Head cover is ever prescient given that 421 are opening for that band in September (details here), and it's great to see Project 421 back in advance of that highly anticipated concert, so give their full set from Saturday night a listen below!
Project 421 also shared two videos from a much closer filmer on the floor on their page yesterday including "Am I Evil?" again, and as embedded below, both "No One Rides For Free" and "Powerslave". The audio is louder, but not as clear, so keep that in mind when watching, but the visuals are much better, and you can see Blair, Frank, Daniel, and Chris back in action just as if you were on the floor that night! Give these videos a look above & below too!
Finally for today, here's three assorted shorter news items from the last while, and as usual, these are in alphabetical order by artist name:
Local alt-punk quartet A Dire Setback have been named as openers for THIS THURSDAY NIGHT'S Treble Charger return concert at LopLops Lounge, as per their Facebook page yesterday! Though not yet advertised on the Facebook event page for the sold out concert, their addition makes sense, given their recent work & advisement with guitarist Bill Priddle. Now publically confirmed as a "sneak peek" and kick-off show for Treble Charger's upcoming tour run, check the above links for more on this highly anticipated event!
Local alt-hard rock trio The Din revealed the setlist from their portion of the aforementioned Project 421 show on their Facebook page on Saturday, confirming there that the 9 song set was almost entirely based around songs from their planned second CD! Three of the songs are newly confirmed titles to the online record, including "Weekend Delivery", "Missing", and "In The Moonlight", though I can't confirm yet on if one of those was the untitled new song from their demo vocal track videos. Hopefully the nearly-all-new set went well for The Din this weekend!
After an almost 6 month hiatus from updating their Facebook page, local hard rock quintet Skeyes of Seven posted there on July 1st, but finally had a new update regarding the band proper on Thursday, noting that "the writing process has begun" and they can't wait for us to hear the material in question. Are they recording new songs, or perhaps re-recording their unreleased debut EP, or is something else afoot? Stay tuned for updates as they roll in!
That's all for today, but stay tuned for more news and updates as we continue the last full week of July! Thanks everyone!
It's now time for this month's YouTube Channel Profiles, as we continue our monthly spotlight on YouTube channels have at least 50% of their current content relating to local metal, hard rock, and/or punk bands, concerts, and events! All randomly selected as usual, we have three videos again this month after the first random selection (and the second) only had a single video each, but with clips from two concerts and a slideshow making use of a notable song, there's a lot to see, so read on below for this month's profiles!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Owner: A member of local classic/hard rock band Havadder's 2011-2012 quintet lineup, exact identity unclear
Channel Timeline:Launched on January 12th, 2010; Only video posted on February 6th, 2012
Channel Summary:These veteran local rockers began using this as their intended official YouTube channel during their brief quintet run in the early 2010s, when Havadder & the now-defunct Turner Up had four members in common. However, the only posted video, a cover of The Foo Fighters' "These Days", is copied from YouTube user Danabelle39's channel, which features an extra Tom Petty cover from the same show at The Nicolet Tavern (now The Rednecks Saloon) in February 2012. Featuring the band's entire current lineup (founding singer/guitarist Jason Roy, bassist Travis Sharpe, and drummer Scott McLurg) alongside then-guitarists Jason Nisbet & Robert Brown, this is a strong cover with Travis handling lead vocals, and the triple guitar attack comes together well, though the camera is slightly angled. This channel is now inactive, but more from this Havadder lineup can be found on YouTube and Havadder's own Facebook page alike.
Owner: YouTube user HockeyTraditionalist, real identity unclear, but I don't believe he's from Sault Ste. Marie
Channel Timeline:Launched on March 7th, 2010; Only video posted that same day
Channel Summary:The only video on HockeyTraditionalist's channel is of a slideshow of NHL game footage set to local/Toronto indie punk quartet Treble Charger's song "Brand New Low" from their 2001 album "Wide Awake Bored". Possibly inspired by the song's inclusion on the soundtrack of the video game NHL 2002 (which also featured "American Psycho"), the video is a well put together slideshow of hockey photos from circa the 2009-10 season, and the song itself is a solid mid-tempo number from Treble Charger's heyday! However, this channel hasn't been actively used in a few years, and if you just want Treble Charger, there are many other channels with more substantial band content.
Owner: YouTube user jjjjjeeeennnaa, first name presumably Jenna, but full identity unclear
Channel Timeline:Launched on January 26th, 2008; Videos posted that same day
Channel Summary:Jenna's YouTube channel was launched to upload three videos that she filmed at the Three Days Grace-headlined concert at The Steelback Center (now The Essar Center) on January 24th, 2008. All running for under two minutes, Jenna filmed the Norwood, Ontario alt-hard rock favourites playing their songs "Get Out Alive" (preceded by a drum solo from Neil Sanderson), "I Hate Everything About You", and as embedded below, "Just Like You". Filmed from a far angle in the seating area, Jenna has a clear angle of Three Days Grace in action from their first of two stops here, and while the audio's a little distorted, they're solid in terms of footage from this show that's available online, especially if you prefer their original lineup! However, this channel has seen no visible usage since 2008.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope you guys liked this month's YouTube Channel Profiles! This series will return on or around May 26th, and after a completelyrandom selection, we're again doing multiple channels due to the first having only one local music-related clip, but the next random channel had two distinct video types to fill things out with! With that said, we're looking at YouTube user cinnamoncubicle's channel (featuring a Treble Charger music video, ironically) and local hard rock quartet Skeyes of Seven's YouTube channel (featuring a live clip and two old studio tracks) next month, so look for that next month, and for more updates soon! Thanks everyone!
With a lot of extant backlogged stories still waiting to get on the site, here's an extra new post on this Sunday morning, but be sure to check out this month's "Where Are The New Albums?" post below this one! Today, we have all the latest from a popular local metal band, and the identity of mystery headliners for an upcoming concert, but first, here's a SHORT NOTICE LOCAL CONCERT ALERT for TODAY!!
Local post-punk/gararge rock quartet Gnaeus will return to the stage TODAY when they rock out at The Essar Centre during the grand finale of this year's Passport To Unity multicultural festival! Apologies for the short notice, the band announced the show via their Facebook page on Thursday, but it slipped us by until now. The VM Radio Battle winners will be among a very diverse lineup of performers that you can check out at this link, and while most are cultural bands and groups, local garage/folk band Honest Job are among the scheduled acts, so keep them in mind as well (they're on at 3:30 PM.) Fans may remember seeing The Pixo Control at last year's Passport To Unity finale after their Downtown Diversity set was rained out, and it will likely be similar circumstances for their friends in Gnaeus this year, so be sure to check them out TODAY during all of the entertainment and events!
Gnaeus are on at 4:25 PM amidst the ALL AGES activities taking place at The Essar Centre, which will also be hosting numerous arts, culture, and food vendors for the occasion of this great and diverse annual event, and while there's no announced admission fee, bring cash just in case. Check the above links for more details! Passport To Unity is a great event, and hopefully Gnaeus' entertaining music adds to that today, so don't miss them at 4:25 PM, and here they are live in March!
Next up, remember how one of the upcoming Gonqshow concerts at The Algonquin Pub on Friday, July 24th has headliners "to be announced" yet had a $20 admission fee? Well, we now know why, as none other than SNFU are coming back to Sault Ste. Marie! Yes, the Vancouver hardcore punk legends are returning to our neck of the woods this summer for the first time in over six years, so if you've missed Mr. Chi Pig and company, here's your chance! As previously announced, this show will be opened by local punk/metal bands (and upcoming split CD-mates) Destroilet & Jack Spades, the latter of whom were scheduled to open for both SNFU and Death By Stereo in July 2013 back when they were brand new, but that planned concert was indefinitely postponed & later cancelled. Both are fitting choices to be sure, so don't miss them either on July 24th!
In the midst of the Gonqshow concert series from J.D. Pearce & Tidal Records, admission will again be $20, a 10:00 PM start time is likely, and you must be 19 to attend. For more details, visit the above links! Now that we know the headliners, we can get ready for SNFU's intense and chaotic hardcore punk in the midst of the summer, so be sure to stay tuned as updates roll in over the next few months!
We'll close today with some overdue notes from local doom metal trio AlgomA, so what have they been up to lately? Aside from their set opening for Biipiigwan at 180 Projects last week (more on that in a bit), the guys have produced some new t-shirts and stickers featuring their new "Circle of Willis" logo that you can now buy at shows and sample via photos on their Facebook page. Their exposure continues to grow, with their song "Go On, Git!" from last year's debut album "Reclaimed By The Forest" included on a new compilation CD from metal promotion agency Grand Sounds Promotions, joining 17 other bands from around the world. Nice score getting on that, so see above for info on that too, and stream it all at this link! Also, singer/guitarist Boyd Rendell appears to have completely dropped the Darby Wigwaus stage name according to their Facebook page, so now all three members are billed as themselves.
AlgomA have also alerted fans on Facebook to a number of recent CD reviews that we hope to touch on in the near future as well, but we'll close today with a video of them at the aforementioned Biipiigwan concert last week, courtesy of the band's YouTube channel on Friday! Filmed with a far stationary camera, this is of AlgomA's full 8 song set last Thursday, and in order, the songs they played include "Failed Stunt Fatality", "Tertiary Syphillis", "Phthisis", "Electric Fence", "Fell Down A Well", "Canis Rabidus", a cover (their first ever) of The Kittens' "Great Dane", and "Go On, Git!", so visit each song name for the individual track. Despite being their first public show since it's release, only three of the six songs from "Reclaimed By The Forest" made this set, but the new songs live up to their usual crushing doom standards!
Adding to the far distance, the video is dark and grainy, and it's hard to make out the projected video behind the band, but it does give the overall video an aged look that helps the effect. Nice to see AlgomA back, and hopefully they have a lot more in the tank as 2015 rolls on, so give their new full concert video a look below!
That's all for today, but stay tuned for much more this coming week! Thanks everyone!
It's now time for this month's YouTube Channel Profiles, as we once again take a look at 1-3 randomly selected YouTube channels with a 50% (or more) ratio of local metal, hard rock, and punk videos, so you guys can read up on them, watch their content, and hopefully subscribe! For a third straight month, we're looking at multiple channels due to the first channel selected having minimal content, but like last month, the second channel had a similar situation, so we have a full maximum of three today! There's still some interesting and varied stuff to check out from the last decade, so check out this month's profiles below! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- syrfer72's channel (http://www.youtube.com/syrfer72)
Owner: YouTube user syrfer72 (full identity unclear)
Channel Timeline: Launched on December 31st, 2006; Only video posted on August 11th, 2010
Channel Summary: This channel's only video is of hard rock legends Kiss playing one of their signature songs "Detroit Rock City" during their memorable headlining concert at The Essar Centre the day before the video's upload. Filmed from roughly the centre of the floor, you get a good (but far) angle of Kiss and the loud pyrotechnics, and the audio quality's respectable, but the video quality is fairly blurry. This was a great concert from Gene, Paul, and company, and this video (among others from this show) capture it well! Note however that syrfer72 has not updated their channel since 2011.
Channel Timeline: Launched on January 19th, 2012; Videos posted in September & October 2013
Channel Summary: Though Ryan still actively uses his channel, he's only uploaded two videos there, and none in over a year. One is an audio recording of him and a friend playing an acoustic song named "A Camel Named Bill", but his only SMS-fitting video is of his defunct thrash metal band Faithless Sin covering Slayer's "Die By The Sword" and "Black Magic" back in 2006. Featuring their original lineup (including Ryan, Fitswitch alum Jason Bourcier on vocals, guitarists Joe Falco and Frank La Tassa, and drummer Mark Parent), Ryan apologized for the audio quality on these covers, which were recorded on a video camera and converted to audio, but they're not that bad, just lacking some clarity. The guys had a strong sound here, and the video is definitely worth a listen, though the band was arguably beat in prominence by their late 2000s successors Time of Ruin.
Owner: A member of the second 2011-2013 version of defunct classic/hard rock band Turner Up, though their specific identity is unclear
Channel Timeline: Launched on January 15th, 2012; Only video posted that same day
Channel Summary: Though ostensibly created as an official Turner Up YouTube channel, the only video uploaded there was of their then-sister band Havadder, who shared four members with Turner Up for the duration of their second run. Featuring Turner Up's Jason Roy on vocals & guitar, Robert Brown on guitar, Travis Sharpe on bass, and Scott McLurg on drums alongside Havadder-only guitarist Jason Nisbet, this video comes from a gig at The Nicolet Tavern (now The Rednecks Saloon) on January 6th, 2012 where they covered Seven Mary Three's "Cumbersome", and it's a well done rendition of this 1990s rock hit! The lighting is inconsistent, and the audio's slightly muddled, but it's one of the better videos of this Havadder lineup, though all but Jason Roy have since left the band and formed the similar new cover band The Thrill Junkies last year. Note as well that this channel hasn't been visibly updated since Turner Up's dissolution.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope you guys liked this month's YouTube Channel Profiles! Next month in this series, we'll be looking at multiple channels for a fourth straight month, as the first that we randomly selected only had two videos total, so we added one more small one to fill it out. With that said, we'll close the year for this series with profiles of YouTube user schloppster's channel (featuring two Clownsack music videos, in our first Sault Michigan profile in this series since May) and the channel of YouTube user mckersie1984, who uploaded two copies of a Dustin Jones & The Rising Tide song! Look for those on or around December 22nd, and stay tuned for more soon! Thanks everyone!
Let's get a new news post up on this Tuesday evening, including some assorted recent notes, an archive concert video from a couple years back, and a recent concert venue closure, but first, here's a new video upload from a major metal show that we enjoyed over seven years ago!
Courtesy of AlgomA bassist Kevin Campbell's YouTube channel, this video is of defunct metal supergroup Heaven & Hell playing the Black Sabbath classic "Computer God" at The Essar Centre (then known as The Steelback Centre) on March 20th, 2007, and it's great to see another video from this show! Note that Kevin credits them as Black Sabbath in the video, as this was the "Mob Rules" era lineup, but they toured and recorded as Heaven & Hell. As preceded by Vinny Appice's drum solo, this is a nice video, and though Kevin wasn't too close to the stage, he used the zoom on his camera to good effect on this solid rendition of one of the better songs on the "Dehumanizer" album! I stand by this being the best concert to ever hit the arena on a musical basis (Kiss topped it theatrically), and I'll always be grateful that I got to see Ronnie James Dio live before his passing. I wonder if Kevin has any more footage from this event? Check out the full clip below!
Next up, we appear to have lost another local concert venue, as Docks Riverfront Grill re-opened earlier this month as Waterfront Legend, a new higher-end Chinese buffet restaurant. The Foster Drive location was quietly sold to new owner Imee Yeun on May 1st, and had operated as Docks briefly over the summer before the relaunch, though the venue hasn't hosted an advertised band since classic rockers Redline played there in late March. According to a new SooToday article on the overhaul from Michael Purvis, the main dining area is mostly unchanged, and the bar's still there, but there's Asian art and effects, new lighting, and buffet tables in place of the pool tables. Given the changes, it seems very unlikely that live bands will be in the cards for Waterfront Legend, which will be disappointing for old Docks regulars, as it was a nice venue that played host to numerous cover bands over the years!
We have moved Docks to our defunct local venue links under it's Facebook page (as it's website was closed), and if you like Chinese food and buffets, give Waterfront Legend a chance! I had heard rumours for a while regarding Docks' ownership and changes, and the lack of recent band bookings had also been noticeable, but hopefully old regulars there find steady places to play in the near future! Best of luck to all former Docks employees!
Also today, here's another older YouTube video of local classic/hard rock cover band Havadder, as we slowly get up to speed concerning their older videos that we never addressed on here! Courtesy of a February 2012 concert at The Nicolet Tavern (now The Rednecks Saloon), this was uploaded to the band's own YouTube channel at the time, and remains the only upload there. Featuring their 2011-2012 Turner Up-hybrid lineup, then-bassist (and recent live guest) Travis Sharpe handles lead vocals on this cover of The Foo Fighters' "These Days" alongside guitarists Jason Roy (Havadder's founder & usual frontman), Jason Nisbet, and Robert Brown, and drummer Scott McLurg. It's a well done cover shot from a good central angle of the stage, but Travis doesn't have the right force on the chorus vocals. Check it out below though, and stay tuned for more from Havadder, new and old!
Finally for today, here's three assorted shorter items from the last little while, and as usual, these are in alphabetical order by band name:
Likely stemming from a prior musician search in May, Social Suicide alum Anthony Boudreau is again looking for a rhythm guitarist for his new local band that would play hard rock & hair metal inspired by the likes of Avenged Sevenfold & Guns 'N Roses, with originals and covers planned. If you're interested, message Anthony at this link (or fellow member Damon King) on Facebook with media of you playing the song of your choice, and click here for more info!
Former State of Misery drummer Nick Kainula is again looking to join a new local band, citing "any music from the '80s up" and Motley Crue as his biggest influences. Right now, he just wants to jam, but would love to play shows too. It'd be nice to see him back in an active band, but if you're interested in jamming with him, message Nick at this link or via his Musicians Wanted Facebook group post from September 5th!
I have removed Haggith frontman Curtis McKenzie's Sound X solo project from our band links for two reasons. One is that he hasn't posted public updates concerning the project since late last year, and the other is that the link we had for Sound X (Curt's solo music page) has not tended to focus on this project over his more active band work. Hopefully he revisits his solo work soon though, and stay tuned for more on Haggith's new CDs!
That's all for today, but stay tuned for more news and previews soon, plus this month's poll and last month's poll results on Thursday! Thanks everyone!
Kicking off a new week at the site, let's cover some recent news and notes today, including LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS for the coming month, more videos from a major recent concert, and a cool punk video to share on here, so here's what you need to know!
Local hard rock cover quartet Late Shift will return to the stage THIS FRIDAY for a solo headlining gig at The Rednecks Saloon! This will likely be the first appearance by this internet page-less band at the former Nicolet Tavern, and if we haven't missed any in the interim, their first public concert appearance since playing at LopLops Lounge in May. Featuring alumni of Fingerbone, Redefined, Northwest, and The Groove Committee, you may also recognize Late Shift from the Amy Ellis benefit show at The Canadian last fall, and if that and their scattered early 2014 gigs (public & private alike) are any indication, they should have a solid cover set in store! No word on why they're not playing on Saturday though, but there might be a prior booking that day. Regardless, there's no announced cover charge, you must be 19 to attend, and there's a 10:00 PM start time in effect. For more details, visit the Facebook event page, and stay tuned for updates if we get them!
Speaking of new shows at The Rednecks Saloon, local hard rock quartet Beaumont Avenue (formerly The Suicide Kings) will return to the old Nic for a full weekend on Friday, July 25th & Saturday, July 26th! Oddly, these shows were only just announced on Friday via the new cover photo on their Facebook page, which still bears their old name as of this writing. Following their second appearance at Rotaryfest in a couple of weeks, these will be their first shows at this venue since May, so if you're up for a weekend full of hard rock originals and covers (especially as you won't see the originals at Rotaryfest), be at 304 Albert Street West on the last weekend of the month! Like this Friday's Late Shift show, expect 19+ age limits, no announced cover, and 10:00 PM start times. For more details, visit the above links, and don't miss the newly renamed Beaumont Avenue then or at Rotaryfest!
We'll close this post with new videos, including what's likely our last fallout from last month's Heart/Jason Bonham concert at The Essar Centre! As you may know, crew from SooToday and Local2 were on hand for the show, filming footage among their other articles, and some of their material made it in the newest episode of their ongoing video series Tuned with Donna Hopper, which went online on Wednesday! The main articles of the episode include Donna's interviews with Southern Ontario rockers The Weber Brothers (the first band she ever interviewed in 2006) and local folk band The Faraway Neighbours (with performance footage of each), while the concert calendar segment plugs The Archaics' show at The New American on July 15th. The last chunk devoted to more Local2 footage of the Heart show, including clips of Heart & Jason playing "Barracuda", "What About Love", and Led Zeppelin covers, some of which were seen before, but they're solid all the same! Click here for the full episode, as Local2 videos doesn't allow external embedding.
And as for embeddable videos, YouTube user hbogie123 uploaded six more videos from the show onto their YouTube channel last week, joining the 13 existing videos that we covered on here! All from the Led Zeppelin cover portion, these videos (generally incomplete again) include Heart & Jason playing "The Ocean", "Immigrant Song", "Kashmir", "The Rain Song", a 13 second clip of "The Battle of Evermore", and as embedded below, their show-stopping rendition of "Stairway To Heaven", which fans will definitely want to check out! Solid quality with a good angle as before, so give hbogie123's last videos a look above & below!
Finally for today, I wanted to slowly begin sharing some local punk videos on the site, and to reserve certain ones for our YouTube Channel Profile Series, we'll feature some from channels without a 50% majority of SMS-fitting videos on the site just to give them some solid attention! This one was originally a Shaw TV Sault Ste. Marie news piece by ex-Free Beer frontman Christian Lemay that aired on Channel 10 last January, and it's focused on the Searchmont Resort fundraiser that month at The Water Tower Inn that featured a concert set by local punk/alternative standouts Treble Charger! While largely focused on the fundraiser and it's impact on the resort from staff, the latter half of the video features footage of Treble Charger's set (their first with a full quartet lineup in the Soo since 2003), and it's nice to see clips of them in town! As I remember, this fundraiser had expensive tickets, but it was for a good cause, and it looked like a successful event! It'd have been interesting to see Greig or Bill interviewed on camera though. Check out the full report below, and see more Shaw TV pieces at their YouTube channel!
That's all for today, but stay tuned for more news and band features this week! Thanks everyone!
