YouTube Channel Profile Series: AshTraynor's Channel

It's time for our latest YouTube Channel Profile, and after a two channel profile last month, we're back to a single channel with lots of videos this month! As always, this channel was picked from the dozens of YouTube channels with a majority of local metal/hard rock-relevant videos that we're subscribed to on YouTube, and this profile will tell you guys about the information, videos, and recommendations concerning this channel and what's uploaded there! Read on below for this month's YouTube Channel Profile, especially as this band & channel are still very much active! (Updated on May 9th, 2013)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AshTraynor's Channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/ashtraynor)

Owner: Ashley Traynor, the sister of Banned guitarist Alex Traynor and daughter of Banned drummer Don Traynor

Channel Timeline: Launched on January 16th, 2011; Videos posted from that month onward

Channel Summary: Until February 2013, this was effectively the official YouTube channel for Kinross hard rock quintet Banned, albeit ran by Ashley Traynor, who filmed almost every video on the channel. After a pair of uploads from a Banned predecessor act at a local talent show last January, the remaining 19vdeos have mostly been of live covers from concerts featuring Banned's past lineups. These include clips from the 2011 Sugar Island Music Festival & various videos from shows all over the eastern U.P., including in Sault Michigan, Moran, Hessel, and Gould City, among other spots. Though mostly covers-centric, videos of their originals "Yooper's Got Talent" (from the talent show of the same name), "Cocaine Riot", and "Plaid Girl" are also featured. The channel's current content is rounded out by a promo video promoting their Pickford concert in October 2011, which features Alex Traynor playing a guitar solo. (Note that a couple of videos on this channel have been privatized since their initial upload for unknown reasons, including a Johnny Cash cover in Rudyard.)

Why Should You Watch: Because this is by far the best online location to see Banned play their talented covers & original songs! Ashley (and, on occasion, Eric Cairns) usually film solid videos from Banned's many concerts in the Eastern U.P., and their diverse setlists and collective talents are sure to gain some deserving attention from local metalheads and rock lovers! Ashley continues to actively use this channel, but note that videos featuring Banned's current lineup have been posted on their new official YouTube channel instead, so you may want to subscribe to that one first.

Our Recommended Videos To Check Out:

Plaid Girl: Originally, we embedded a May 2012 video of Banned playing their new song "Plaid Girl" here as a recommendation, but Ashley made it private for unknown reasons in recent months. No worries though, as they have another video of arguably their best original to share! Whereas the first video took place in Gould City with then-second guitarist Alex Schrovenwever joining in, this one is sans-Alex from the "Rock Till You Drop" battle of the bands at the Chippewa County Fair on August 30th, 2012! Also missing then-singer Mike Straw, this well shot (but dark) outdoor video shows Banned at their classic hard rocking best, but the first video is arguably fuller in sound with two guitars, and I'd make it public again.

BANNED at Music in the Park (Metal Health): The most popular video on Ashley's channel to date, this cover of Quiet Riot's "Bang Your Head (Metal Health)" from the Music In The Park event in Rudyard in July 2011 was one of three covers from this set posted onto YouTube, joining covers of Bad Company's self-titled song & The Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Under The Bridge" that featured different band members on lead vocals. Featuring Alex Schrovenwever on bass, this cover is a bit sped up compared to the original song, but they have it down well, and Alex Traynor's singing voice works well for the style in this well shot early video of Banned live in concert!

Talent Show (Part 2): Among the channel's first uploads were two videos of Alex & Don Traynor at an unidentified talent show on January 15th, 2011 before Banned's formation, where they were joined by bassist Steve Jacobus for an (at least) 4 song set of covers. The first video features the Traynors & Steve covering "Bad Company" again & AC/DC's "Whole Lotta Rosie" but this video sees them cover AC/DC's "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" and Van Halen's version of "You Really Got Me", and they do justice to the songs! Don Traynor's vocals work well for AC/DC material especially, and Alex's guitar work (and Angus-esque devil horns) stands out especially, so both of these videos are solid early looks at the Traynors in action before Banned took the area by storm!

I hope you guys liked this month's YouTube Channel Profile! This one will probably be frequently updated knowing the amount of videos and shows Banned have, so keep posted to the SMS if things change here! Next month in this series, we'll be looking at three channels for the first time in six months, but which ones? I randomly chose the YouTube channels of dutters23 (featuring three songs from "Woods V"), Ashley Lacasse (featuring two 2010 videos of State of Misery), and mdj60 (featuring two short Three Days Grace live videos from their 2009 show here), so that should make for a diverse and interesting triple feature next month!

Note that dutters23's channel is one upload away from not having 50% SMS-relevant videos, and isn't locally based, so if something new & non-local goes up there before June 22nd, we'll replace it with filghtmaster's channel, which has one Bring The Fallen video from 2010, and is the closest channel alphabetically that can fit in this three channel setup. No matter what though, stay tuned for this profile on or around June 22nd, and stay tuned for more news tomorrow! Thanks everyone!
