Spades GT Updates & Media From Last Fall!!

Let's continue playing catch-up with local/Barrie crossover thrash band Spades GT in today's single-topic post, so what have they up to over the past 3 months? We'll rewind back to October 24th to start, when drummer Tyler "Jeeb" Reiner took part in a 19 minutes long interview with Jason Saulnier of the Nova Scotia-based music interview website Music Legends, and you can see much more from Jason's past interviews via his YouTube channel. The interview is actually the second time that Jason has interviewed Tyler, following a 2012 telephone interview, for the record. This time around, the interview starts with light talk about Tyler's personal life before giving an introduction to Spades GT, and unlike in a lot of the band's promotional materials, Tyler does acknowledge the band's beginnings as Jack Spades in the Soo, including how he met them during Caym's tour runs up north, and how he joined the relaunched group after J.D. & Daniel moved down south in the early 2020s.

The interview next delves into the challenges of promoting their music as an unsigned band (Tyler has been serving as the band's manager/publicist as well as drumming), while connecting the dots to Tyler's existing business experience. He next discusses how Spades GT's album "Sewer City Radio" got its name, and if the lyrics of the title track didn't clue you in, the album's name is 100% inspired by Sault Ste. Marie. How the album artwork was conceived and pitched comes up afterwards, and Tyler also goes into how they approached the writing and recording of the album. Spades' 2023 concert slate is next on the docket, with bigger past shows and then-upcoming dates plugged, along with friends of the band, with Tyler ending things with his hopes for what he wants listeners to get out of their music, including the diverse comparisons that people have had between Spades GT and more mainstream bands.

Good interview that gives some relatively rare acknowledgement to the Jack Spades years, and compared to other times that I've seen Tyler interviewed, he really leaned into the behind the scenes aspect of things in terms of marketing and promoting the band rather than just playing with them. Jason was good to let Tyler talk unencumbered, but I will say that he could have segued between topics less abruptly, as it seemed like he was trying to move things along too fast without proper transitions. Give this video interview a watch for yourselves below!

In terms of Spades GT proper, their first concert after this interview saw them open for Tyler's dad Robb's band Anvil (you may have heard of them) at Queens Nightclub in Barrie on November 9th, with the two bands joining forces again at The Rockpile in Toronto eight days later. The former seemed to get more attention after the fact, starting with this review by Richard Varty from The Simcoe Scene, which is the same blog that interviewed the Reiners to promote the then-upcoming Barrie concert. The review focuses on Spades GT and not the other bands that night, with Richard comparing them to the band on the Titanic, and calling them "the house band of the end times". Lots of hyperbole and intense imagery to describe how Johnny, Dan, Killroy, and Jeeb performed on this night, so it's easy to see why the band liked the review, which you can read above! A recap video was uploaded to Facebook as well, though sadly, it's as a "Reel" so it can't be embedded externally.

Like their In Crust We Trust "Reel", this features assorted video clips of Spades GT hanging out pre-show, mingling with attendees, and of course, that night's bands, all as set to a studio track of theirs (in this case, "XS"). Alas, as a "Reel", it's vertical, short, unembeddable, and unplayable in background tabs, and while it's a well edited taste of what absent fans couldn't see, one must wonder what kind of raw video they're sitting on from this show, as the video quality looks really nice! The Toronto show also got some promotion via Tyler in this "Reel" featuring their song "Red" as the backing audio, and it also got a recap video (uploaded as a "Reel") set to "Succubus" that is very similar to the one from Barrie. It does have some unique touches at The Rockpile, like a fancy throne and... a slide? Again, I find "Reels" very limiting and I'd love to see fuller, horizontal, and/or raw footage from this show, but I'm very behind on the TikTok age.

Next time that we talk about Spades GT, we'll pick things back up with their show in Newmarket opening for Random Killing at The Lion Pub & Grill on November 18th, so stay tuned for more from their camp in the near future, and this weekend's concert previews next! Thanks everyone!

Fuller Concert Video Showcase!!

I apologize for the delay in this making the site, but remember the Fuller reunion show at LopLops Lounge on December 28th? Well, almost the whole thing was live-streamed on Facebook! The Facebook event page (something usually forgotten about after a concert begins) ended up being a hub for videos from the event, possibly aided by the fact that 2/3rds of the bands that night don't have Facebook pages (and the one that does only posts there on occasion). These still made the rounds on personal Facebook pages, hence the comments/views on each. The videos were shot live by concert co-promoter Jimmy Polnick, and just to get this out of the way now, yes, all were shot vertically. I wish they weren't, but kudos to Jimmy for getting this much footage at all! We'll start with the 66 minute video of the reunited emo/punk trio Fuller, featuring founding frontman Jamie Vincent, late-era bassist Mark Rand, and guest(?) drummer David Peredun, who was heavily thanked during the set.

The set proper begins after six minutes of setup, with Jimmy talking to viewers watching on Facebook in the lead-up. Song names are partially sourced from a picture shared on Mark's personal Facebook page of him writing out the setlists used on stage on the 28th, though the name of the last song was obscured by Mark's arm, and I know that some were credited under short-form names. Also, as far as I know, none of these songs come from Fuller's 2002 EP, which Mark did not play on, and which infamously had no titled songs. I have yet to review it for the SMS, but I know that it was relatively softer than they eventually got. In order, their setlist led off with original songs labelled as "Batts", "And I End", and "Crush", before covering "Honestly?" by the Midwest emo band American Football. Further songs included "Image" and "Love Is Always", whose full name I know thanks to this YouTube video from back in the day.

Free Beer/Id Iota alum Dustin Goodall and Honest Work's Wayne Watkins take the stage next to do guest vocals on a cover of Moneen's "The Passing Of America", and the set ends with songs labelled as "Embarrass", "Kerosene", and the one whose name is obscured in Mark's image, which was more of an extended jam. While I was never a massive emo fan, Fuller turned in a fun set here with lots of energy, and it was nice seeing Jamie and Mark singing on stage together again! Jimmy did leave his prime spot in the front row for the last few songs, but you get a good look at the sold-out crowd as a result, and the recording quality is solid (vertical camera aside). Give Fuller's return set a watch below!

The middle band was local punk supergroup The Gambit in their first public concert set in exactly one year and just their second under this name. Jimmy's 40 minute live stream begins relatively promptly with the set proper. I'm admittedly struggling to identify all the songs on offer, which was a problem when trying to catalogue old Sick Sons/Gambit videos, partially due to vocal clarity with this audio setup and partially due to the band not introducing all songs by name. That said,  I am 100% positive that they covered NOFX's "It's My Job To Keep Punk Rock Elite", Gob's "I Hear You Calling", and Pup's version of Grandaddy's "A.M. 180", plus original songs named (I think) "Lonelier Tomorrow", "Lucky Seven", "Depth", "Clickbait", and "Faultline". In practice, fans can expect some solid indie-inflected punk covers and originals from The Gambit, complete with multiple band members taking vocal duties, and the variety is definitely welcomed!

Jimmy is stationed further from the stage in a stationary spot, and you can only see three band members with any frequency, but The Gambit's set was entertaining, and hopefully the original compositions are a good sign! Hopefully they ramp up their online presence too, and credit the full lineup by name on social media, but check out The Gambit's full LopLops set last month out for yourselves below!

Finally, the opening band (new and online page-less local punk quartet Honest Work) were joined in progress, with Jimmy's live-stream beginning late in their opening song, possibly an original named "Straight To My Heart". Honest Work (not to be confused with defunct indie rock band Honest Job) is basically the former Nebraska Arms with guitarist Wayne Watkins (also of The Northwest) now on lead vocals, and with bass now handled by former Rising Tide fiddler Sheldon Jaaskelainen, who also sings on some songs. Dedicating their half-hour set to fallen local musicians, their set otherwise included songs named (I think) "Left Friends" and "Be Better", among others, plus covers of Dead To Me's "Die In Los Angeles" and Alkaline Trio's "Radio". Entertaining set that restores some of the punk that has been phased out of newer Northwest material, and Wayne and Sheldon handle vocals well, so give their debut a watch!

With the Facebook event page intentionally being used to host videos from the event, more have been uploaded that we will touch on in an upcoming post. Thanks again to Jimmy for filming everything last month, so definitely give these a look to see what you missed out on (or want to relive) from Fuller's first show in almost 20 years, and hopefully those teasers of more activity in the future do lead somewhere positive! That's all for today, but stay tuned for more news and notes on the site soon! Thanks everyone!

LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Half Past & The BAG) Plus Two New EP Releases!!

Today's post is split between two topics: the first local metal album releases of 2024 and a pair of LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS for next month, so here's what you should know on both fronts!

Remember how The Esquire Club's early 2024 concert calendar lists a band named "The B" as playing there on Friday, February 2nd? Well, they're not a mystery, rather a misprint, as young local metal trio The BAG will return there on this night! Frontman Spencer McGillivray confirmed that they are The B(AG) via their Facebook group on Friday, in what will be their first concert set of the year and their first appearance at the Second Line West nightclub since March of last year. Not sure what took them this long to come back, but hopefully Spencer, Austin, and Bradley deliver the metal goods for west end fans next month! In a rarity for The Esquire Club, this show will have an opening band, namely local punk trio Vanity First, in their second show together in under a week, following the previously announced Distraction concert on Saturday, January 27th, so this could be a rain date!

It's not every day when you get a double dose of original-heavy bands on stage together at The Esquire Club, so don't bypass this show next month for metal and punk action! This show is a 19+ event with no announced cover charge and a 9:00 PM start time. See above for more details!

Next up, reunited local hard rock quartet Half Past will finally return to the public concert stage on Saturday, February 3rd on Shooters Downstairs Lounge! As you may recall, Half Past were briefly advertised to return at Shooters in August of last year, only for that show to be cancelled without comment from the band, but with six more months to dial things in, hopefully next month's show is a huge hit for their comeback! This will be Half Past's first public concert in over twelve years, last seen at The Rockstar Bar in October 2011, and will see Jordan Rains, Alain Fletcher, and Arthur Lacasse now joined by Al's old Skeyes of Seven bandmate Jonny Amendola (original drummer Chris Thompson passed away in 2021, not long after Half Past relaunched). Hopefully their modern hard rock cover attack is welcomed back to the stage with ease after such a long layoff next month!

Note that this show (as well as Mid Life Crysis' show last night and Bone Yard's one nighter next week) are all Saturday nighters, seemingly indicating that Shooters has ended the Saturday DJ nights that they began last fall (or moved them to Fridays?). Half Past take the stage at 9:00 PM on February 3rd, this is a 19+ event, and there is no announced cover charge. Visit the official Facebook event page for more details!

Also today, I apologize for the two week delay in this making the site, but local progressive metal duo Convergence released their second EP to their Bandcamp page on New Year's Day! Entitled "Dead & Dreaming", this was recorded at guitarist Brendan Christie's own Yellow Room Studios, and is the end result of what was previously uploaded as a single to Bandcamp, and features five songs (well, four and an intro track), including "The Ebb", which was briefly appended to their "One" EP from last year. That song features returning session drummer Cliff Aubut, but unlike on "One", no songs here feature vocals. Along with a couple of unembeddable "Reels", the former Kraken Mara did share the Facebook video embedded below of Brendan playing 47 seconds of the closing track "Awake" in studio, with the format and setting being fairly similar to much of their 2023 videos ("Reels" or otherwise). The EP costs $4.99 on Bandcamp, and can be streamed for free there too.

A review of "Dead & Dreaming" is not pencilled in for the SMS until at least April, due to our policy of putting a buffer period of at least six months between reviews of the same project's albums, to avoid any accusations of bias or favouritism (we only reviewed "One" in October 2023). At present, we have Bold Noize, Sykotyk Rampage, and Sell This! slotted for the next few months, but don't worry, Convergence are coming up in the spring as our bumper crop of heavier album reviews continues! I'll hold comment until then, but if you like djent-laden progressive metal, do not skip past Convergence's new material above & below!

We'll close today with one more album release, and while I was unable to go to the release party due to prior commitments, local/Winnipeg industrial/punk solo project Sell This! released their third album "Empires Everywhere" last night! The album did not turn up on the project's Bandcamp page until today, but it is an EP with five songs, including two instrumentals. However, two of the songs run for 8+ minutes, so this is a near-half hour listen front to back. The songs do feature percussion too, but project founder/cellist Pete Mozarowski is the only credited musician on offer, so I don't know if he drummed here, and/or if he had a guest/session drummer, let alone for their set last night at The Distraction. "Empires Everywhere" is on sale for $5 (a whopping 1¢ more than "Dead & Dreaming") and can also be streamed for free there. As alluded to above, I have this album pencilled in for an SMS review in March after Bold Noize and Sykotyk Rampage.

This is due to our continued new release backlog dating back to late 2022, and while I try to go in chronological order, this will leapfrog "Dead & Dreaming" despite being two weeks newer due to our six month anti-bias buffer period between reviews of the same artist's albums. Both are coming in the spring, but buy or stream both albums above, and look for more news and notes on the site this week! Thanks everyone!

LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Jackal Blood & Bookclub), The Sell This! Concert Preview, And More!!

Before we begin this post, just a late update regarding TONIGHT & TOMORROW's short notice Soundcheck concerts at The Esquire Club, as bassist Jim Michaud will be absent this weekend due to a death in his family, as per the band's Facebook page. Rob Gilmar (who frequently filled in for ex-bassist Paul Belair before Jim joined last year) will sit in with Soundcheck this weekend. Our condolences absolutely go out to Jim at this difficult time, and don't miss Soundcheck with Rob on bass this weekend! Now, here's some more weekend concert previews and new videos, starting with LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS, one on SHORT NOTICE!

Online page-less local punk/alternative band Bookclub will make their first ever public concert appearance at The Kiln at Searchmont Resort TOMORROW NIGHT! Apologies for the short notice, we only heard about this concert via Searchmont's Facebook page yesterday. The first announced show of 2024 for Bookclub will see them head north to the Soo's ski resort TOMORROW, in what will be just the third advertised concert at The Kiln so far this season, and the first there in over a month (perhaps last month's mild weather didn't help?). It's worth noting that Searchmont's description for the show/band credits Wyld Stallyns saxophonist Josh Norling (not pictured) as being a member of the band now. This has not been publically corroborated by Bookclub on social media (their lack of a social media account acknowledged), but whether Josh is a permanent addition or not, adding some extra horns for certain gigs/songs can't hurt, so he would be welcomed!

Whether you're hitting the slopes or not, their fun 1980s-leaning covers will entertain TOMORROW NIGHT! This show has a 7:00 PM start time, no announced cover charge, and a 19+ age limit. Visit the above links for more details on Bookclub's Searchmont debut, and here they are live!

Next up, an intriguing multi-band concert will hit The Distraction on East Street on Saturday, February 3rd, marking their first event headlined by a touring act, namely Bay City, Michigan punk solo project Jackal Blood! Self-described as a "musical therapist", Jackal Blood uses vocals, guitar, and backing tracks to deliver a wide range of punk styles to the concert stage, and it'll be very interesting to see what they bring to the table in Canada next month! Adding to the solo project appeal, all four opening acts are solo artists/one man bands, including online page-less emo/folk punk act Agnosticism, fellow local funk punk virtuoso Chase Wigmore (who isn't hanging up his guitar yet!), former Raincourt frontman Eli Russell (who headlined the first ever concert at The Distraction last fall), and Floor Between Us frontman Colin Gasparelli in a solo set. Five talented and diverse musicians with a punk lean, so don't miss out on this show!

As usual for Distraction concerts, this is an all ages event with doors opening at 6:00 PM on February 3rd, and while the stated admission fee is $5 ($1 per performer?), "pay what you can" is once again also given as an option. An SMS amenable concert featuring five individual solo musicians is not something you see every day, let alone one with a touring headliner from the US, but it'll be a fun winter attraction for many readers, so visit the official Facebook event page for more details!

Speaking of The Distraction, here's that final weekend concert preview for TOMORROW NIGHT, as local/Winnipeg classical/metal solo project Sell This! will make their local concert debut with a CD release party at the former Big Guns Barbershop! Led by former RedD Monkey cellist Pete Mozarowski, Sell This!' highly left wing political lyrics and current events-driven material will create an interesting contrast with his Nine Inch Nails-inspired vocals and established cello skill, but how will this project look in a live performance setting, especially as Pete is playing their entire new album "Empires Everywhere" in full tomorrow? Be at The Distraction to find out! In one more solo act for this venue, local folk punk solo project Slumshine will play their first public show of the year and first outside of the Fringe North festival in a few years as the opening act, so look for Brent's up-tempo acoustic punk to lead off nicely at The Distraction tomorrow night!

Ground rules are mostly the same tomorrow as they will be on the 3rd, including no age limit and a $5 entry fee (or "pay what you can"), but doors open later at 8:00 PM, and if Pete is indeed selling the new Sell This! album on CD as teased, one assumes those won't be free, so bring more than $5 if you want one. I can't find a video to preview Sell This! with, but if you miss RedD Monkey and want to check out Pete's new project (with album in tow), be at The Distraction TOMORROW NIGHT, and visit the official Facebook event page for more details on the release party!

We'll close today with some new videos from local indie/punk quintet The Northwest, albeit from their Instagram page! In 2023, Facebook updates were few and far between from The Northwest despite some high profile concert dates, but their Instagram page did see a little more in the way of updates and show promotion, including two videos that never turned up on Facebook. One is a cover of "O Christmas Tree" by guitarist Mike Yakasovich that was fittingly uploaded on Christmas Day, and it's well performed, if quaint, so give it a look above (if it being three weeks out of date doesn't bother you!). The other video is embedded below, and it features behind the scenes footage from when The Northwest opened for Marianas Trench at GFL Memorial Gardens in September 2022! The video features footage of the band entering the arena proper, setting up for rehearsal or soundcheck, and hanging out in the locker room (fitting given their hockey fandom!)

No live audio of them rehearsing or talking is heard, instead dubbed over by the studio version of "Long Hair (Longer Nights)". Between that and the vertical camera angle, this is another case where I would love to see the raw footage shot here rather than the vertical edited highlights, but alas, it seems like bands never post the full goods if they decide to go the highlight reel route. Still, this is a neat insight into arguably The Northwest's biggest concert set to date, so check it out below!

That's all for today, but stay tuned for more news and notes on the site this weekend! Thanks everyone!

R.I.P. George Belleau (1967-2023)

I'd like to send out deepest (if sadly belated) condolences to the family and friends of veteran local rock bassist George "Kinounini" Belleau, who passed away on June 17th at the age of 55. His obituary is posted online at this link. While born in Toronto, a member of the Garden River First Nation, and a graduate of St. Mary's College in Sault Ontario, George eventually made his home in Brimley, Michigan, and was a veteran bassist in many Sault Michigan/E.U.P. bands. SMS readers may recall George surfacing in mid-late 2010s hard rock bands like RamWagon, Full Throttle, the final incarnation of Highway 63, and that band's short-lived side project Mackinaw Trail, while he was also a member of the country cover band Hawk Junction. George also played drums with the Eagle Lodge and was involved in traditional drum groups. Outside of music, he worked as a bus driver and janitor, had a large collection of movies on Blu-Ray, and crafted beadwork, regalia, and instruments in his spare time.

George is survived by his mother, two daughters (sadly, his daughter Ayanna passed away previously), two grandsons, and other extended family, including his niece, Sault Ontario-based rapper Conika. Services took place at the Bay Mills Cultural Center on June 21st & 22nd, with arrangements entrusted to C.S. Mulder Funeral Home in Sault Michigan, and interment was at Mission Hill Cemetery in Brimley. Unfortunately, videos of George in concert are not publically extant to my knowledge, but George was a talented bassist across multiple genres who was able to cross border lines effectively as a musician and personally. Thank you to Glen Thomas for letting me know about his passing, and R.I.P. George!

LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Soundcheck & Double Down) Plus Weekend Concert Previews!!

The second concert weekend of 2024 is upon us, so let's dive into another round of weekend concert previews! Due to the amount of shows, I'll hold our preview of Saturday night's Sell This! CD release party for tomorrow's post, so don't worry, it is coming! Now, here's what you should know for this weekend, starting with SHORT NOTICE LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS!

Local classic/hard rock cover quartet Double Down will play their first concerts of 2024 TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT at Jay's Piston Broke Pub! Apologies for the short notice, the band only announced these shows via their Facebook page on Sunday. Last seen two weeks ago at The Esquire Club, these will be Double Down's first shows at the former Reggie's West in three months. This talented union of Mojo, 100 Gran, and Mustang Heart alumni should have lots of fan friendly and Cancon-laden rock covers in store for fans at Jay's TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT, so keep these shows in mind despite the late notice! As usual for shows at the Korah Road staple, expect 19+ age limits, no cover charges, and 9:30 PM start times. See above for more details, and for a preview, here's Double Down live at Jay's the last time they played there in October!

Next up, fellow local classic/hard rock cover quartet Soundcheck will return to The Esquire Club for shows TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT as well! Again, apologies for the short notice, these gigs were first announced in the venue's January concert calendar last week, but it only went online on Monday, and I didn't want to plug these shows redundantly twice in a three day span. This is the first of five concert weekends booked at The Esquire Club in the first half of 2024 (at least so far), so fans will get lots of action from Cameron, Terry, Jim, and Glen on Second Line West in the months ahead... well, not in April! Soundcheck (no space) will take the stage TOMORROW & SATURDAY at 9:00 PM, these are 19+ affairs, and neither date has a cover charge. Visit the above links for more details on Soundcheck's 2024 Esquire Club slate, and here they are live!

Also this weekend, newer local classic/hard rock cover quartet Silent 9 will make their 2024 debut when they rock The Water Tower Pub for one night only TOMORROW NIGHT! After spending December playing at private/fundraiser gigs, this will kick off a busier early 2024 slate for them, but this will be the only booking for (as they also spell it in some marketing) Silent Nin9 at The Water Tower Pub until May, unless they get another new show there beforehand. As is typical for the Great Northern Road nightclub, The Water Tower Pub hosts different bands nightly, with online page-less cover rock trio Wheelhouse (featuring Stiffler's Mom alumni) playing there on Saturday. Silent 9 take the stage there tomorrow at 8:00 PM, this is a 19+ event, and there is no announced cover charge. Hopefully this kicks off a new year on the right foot for Silent 9, so see above for more details, and here they are live!

Finally for today's previews, we'll head downtown to Reggie's Place, where local southern hard rock trio Bone Yard will return for shows TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT! While we didn't see much of Greg, Alex, and Warren at the Queen Street East staple last year, these will be Bone Yard's first shows at Reggie's in just over a month, so could 2024 prove to be more fruitful for gigs there? In any event, Bone Yard's southern fried brand of classic and hard rock covers should go over swimmingly tomorrow & Saturday at Reggie's, so don't miss out on all of the action if you're up for it! As usual for Reggie's, expect 9:30 PM start times, 19+ age limits, and no cover charges this weekend, and if you can't make it, they'll also be downtown at Shooters for a one nighter next weekend. See above for more details, and here's Bone Yard live at Reggie's!

That's all for today, but stay tuned for more news and notes on the site soon! Thanks everyone!

Defunct Local Band Profile Series: Long Shot

It's now time for our first Defunct Local Band Profile of 2024! This long-running monthly feature looks at randomly selected local metal, hard rock, and/or punk bands from the past, in order to spotlight them and their run for current readers. We drew a band who seemed to come from out of nowhere and vanish similarly during their mid-2010s heyday, so here's what you should know on them!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Long Shot

Hometown: Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario

Genre: Hard Rock

Lineup: (Members not in their last full lineup are in italics)

Evan Dawe, vocals/guitar
Nathan Muto, guitar
Adam Dawe, bass/backing vocals
Jeremy Ganuelas, drums/backing vocals

Audio/Video: In one of their last acts before dissolving, Long Shot released a self-titled EP on their Bandcamp page in July 2016, featuring three original songs, and it remains on sale for $4 (it can be streamed for free as well). Unfortunately, the vast majority of their public videos were taken down when they deleted their Facebook page after their breakup, but at least two videos are still extant, including one of them covering The Foo Fighters' "Everlong" at Rotaryfest Stage 1 in 2015, and as embedded below, Cream's "Sunshine Of Your Love" at the Speak Easy Battle of the Bands!

Info/Analysis:
Quietly launching in early 2014, and uniquely comprised of musicians not known from any prior local bands on record, Long Shot eased into things with private and corporate bookings for much of that year before ramping up their presence as a live act in 2015. Publically debuting that March via a second place finish in the fan voted Speak Easy Battle of the Bands, Long Shot would also be seen that year at Rotaryfest and Passport To Unity, while also bringing live music to the Fraternal Order of Eagles club in Heyden, and playing an increasing number of traditional nightclub gigs. After spending early 2016 in the studio, Long Shot returned for one more gig that July at LopLops alongside the now also-defunct Stereo North, before abruptly deciding to part ways the following month. A varied range of covers (including some surprises) bolstered by solid hard rock originals served Long Shot well, especially with Nathan's skilled lead guitar work, and hopefully we see him, the Dawes, and Jeremy again down the road!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I hope that you guys liked this month's Defunct Local Band Profile! This series will return on or around February 10th for our first Sault Michigan profile of 2024, where our next randomly selected band will be 2007-2012 hard rock band Free Refill! Look for that then, and for weekend concert previews on the site next! Thanks everyone!
