LOCAL CONCERT ALERT (The Suicide Kings), Woods Of Ypres Tribute CD Updates, And More!!

Finally, we have our first news post of the week after a slow weekend for news, so what's on the docket tonight? We have lineup news for an upcoming concert, the latest Woods of Ypres-related news, our first taste of a local band with their new singer, and a new concert video, but first, here's a LOCAL CONCERT ALERT for another holiday season concert! (And check out this month's Defunct Local Band Profile in the post below this one!)

New local hard rock quartet The Suicide Kings have another new concert lined up, this time at The Canadian Nightclub on Friday, December 28th! The last heavier-leaning show of 2012 as of this writing (that could easily change though), this will mark the band's return to The Canadian following last month's Toystock event, and the guys are hyping that they'll have new songs ready to play for this show! Note however that members' personal Facebook pages indicated yesterday that The Suicide Kings would also be playing at The Canadian on Boxing Day with another major local band, but it remains to be seen if that show is still on, or was bumped up to the 28th. As always, I'll keep you posted! A 10:00 PM start time and 19+ age limit are likely, and I'd assume there's a cover charge of around $5. For more details, visit the official Facebook event page! This should be an entertaining concert, and close to home for me, so hopefully I can make it our for what will hopefully be a typically busy concert stretch over the holiday season! Stay tuned for updates, and follow The Suicide Kings on their brand new Twitter page!

While we're on the subject of holiday season concerts, here's some lineup news for December 21st's "Survivors at the End of the World" show at The Algonquin Pub! The to be announced slot has been announced for the event, and it goes to not just one band, but two, including the return of local punk/classical standouts RedD Monkey! The recently-Toronto based band will be hitting the studio over the holidays, and while back home, they'll play their first local show since the Sewer Swampstravaganza in July, so if you miss their cello-infused punk madness, don't miss this show! The other new band are alternative/hard rock quartet Sykotyk Rampage, who'll bring their crash stylings back for another show in their recently busy schedule! With more new songs in their sets, look for the Beckers and company to rock the stage with their creatively entertaining originals on the 21st! Yes, I believe guitarist Dirk Becker is handling sound for this show with the Sykotyk Sound Company, but this has yet to be 100% confirmed. They join the previously announced Valentine's Day Massacre & Lazer Queen on the bill, and for more details on this very exciting concert, visit the above links, and check out the official poster on your left!

Thirdly today, here's the latest news concerning defunct local blackened doom metal band Woods of Ypres! We're receiving some new information on the status of the upcoming Woods of Ypres tribute CD "A Heart of Gold", as posted onto the album's Facebook group late last month, so where's it at? According to organizer Steph LeDrew, funding for it's release has fallen short, so she's looking at either a fundraising campaign through Kickstarter to raise the money, or just releasing it digitally to start, with proceeds helping towards a physical release. Many people are leaning towards the digital initial release, but a suggestion to raise funds & interest through presales (which David used to do) garnered some solid responses as well. I'm not sure what the final plan will be, but I think whatever gets this tribute album out to the widest audience for the maximum impact should be done. If they do go the digital route, it'd be fitting to see this come out to coincide with the one year anniversary of David's death on the 22nd, but I have no idea how realistic that is.

No matter what, I hope this comes out soon, as David's music & memory deserve to be remembered, and this tribute album would go a long way towards that! Stay tuned for updates on the album as I hear of them, and voice your opinions on it's release and fundraising above! (Oh, and Woods/David are up for Metal Album & Vocalist of the Year in the 2012 Loudwire Music Awards, and you can vote once an hour through January 15th, so do so at this location!)

Finally for today, here's the newest video from local grunge quartet Haggith, and if you missed their Bushplane Musical Madness concert, you'll wanna check this out! The band posted this video (which is almost an hour long) onto their YouTube channel last night, and it features much of their set that night, including portions of most (if not all) of their songs, including some full clips! This includes 5 tracks from their debut "Dragon Joy Ride", both parts of "Fin" from "Apocalypse", their previously revealed songs "Leon The Janitor", "75", and "Public Enemy", their cover of Cheap Trick's "Reach Out", and newly revealed originals named "These Four Walls" & "Loverbeam", along with one of the promotional videos for the event (featuring Sykotyk Rampage music) & some time-lapse footage and other assorted shots. Everything's well edited and recorded, but the concert footage is lacking visually. The camera wasn't centered, and the lighting isn't fantastic, with everything extremely dark. Maybe the guys can use YouTube's video enhancement tools to make it brighter?

Still, this is a ton of nice sounding footage, including some songs we haven't heard much of before (if at all), so if you missed the Bushplane Museum concert (or you enjoy Haggith), check out an hour's worth of them and the event below!

That's all for tonight, but stay tuned for more news as the week rolls along! Thanks everyone!
