Local classic/hard rock cover quartet Generations will return to The Water Tower Pub for one night only (as is standard at this venue) on Friday, September 1st! Announced by drummer Tony Santoro on their Facebook group last night, this will be their second concert since formally adding Flat Stanley/Dorian Grey guitarist Tony Kajnar to their lineup, though fittingly, he guested with them at their last Water Tower Pub gig at the end of July. Hopefully this show goes well for this talented veteran foursome, and that they keep the good times rolling this fall! Expect a 9:00 PM start time, 19+ age limit, and no cover charge. See above for more details, and while we're on the subject, here's some new videos from their set at the block party on Queen Street East on Sunday! These were live-streamed for attendee Mario Naccarato's Facebook page and subsequently shared publically to the band's Facebook group by Tony Santoro's wife Dawn.
The videos include Generations covering The Beatles' "Day Tripper" and, as embedded below, both Miley Cyrus' "Flowers" & The Tragically Hip's "New Orleans Is Sinking", the latter with bassist Pierre Anthony on vocals (yes, Lime covered "New Orleans Is Sinking" to end the very next set). While somewhat distantly filmed from the stage, at least Mario shot these horizontally and had good audio from his camera, so Generations fans will enjoy these varied covers above & below!
Next up, we'll head downtown to Shooters Downstairs Lounge, where fellow local classic/hard rock cover quartet Soundcheck will return to the stage for one night only on Friday, September 8th! This will be Soundcheck's first announced concert (barring a late announcement this week or next) since returning to Algoma Tree Services' community meet & greet two weeks ago, and their first show at Shooters since playing a full weekend there in late July. No word on why they're not playing on Saturday the 9th, but this concert has a 19+ age limit, a 9:00 PM start time, and no cover charge. Soundcheck (one word) may not plug this show online, so it's good that Shooters posted a Facebook event page to get the word out, and hopefully Terry, Cameron, Jim, and Glen deliver lots of strong classic and hard rock favourites for fans in a few weeks! See above for more details, and stay tuned for more from Soundcheck!
In one more brand new Shooters Downstairs Lounge hard rock show announcement, local southern hard rock trio Bone Yard will return there for another concert on Friday, September 29th! This will be Bone Yard's first stop at the Dennis Street nightclub since playing there in mid-July, and while this too appears to just be a one-nighter, hopefully Bone Yard's southern fried hard and classic rock covers are another hit to end September with! Like Soundcheck above, expect this to be a 19+ event with no cover and a 9:00 PM start time. Visit the official Facebook event page for more details, and we have some new videos of Bone Yard to mention while we're on the subject! These were live-streamed by a band representative during their Dragonfly Run headlining set at Jay's Piston Broke Pub on Saturday night (the other bands were outdoors, it turned out), so what can you see here? All sadly shot vertically, the videos include covers of Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show's "The Cover of 'Rolling Stone'", both Van Halen's "Eruption" & The Kinks' "You Really Got Me" (it's only natural), The 4 Non Blondes' "What's Up", and as embedded below, Queen's "Fat Bottomed Girls". A mix of songs we've seen filmed a lot from Bone Yard shows and some rarer cuts for videos, but Greg, Alex, and Warren are on their game with a receptive crowd on each song! I may not quite get when local bands cover "What's Up", but it does get a response, clearly! Give each of Bone Yard's new Dragonfly Run videos a watch above & below!
Finally, Shooters also confirmed new local classic/hard rock cover quartet Silent 9's previously announced date there on Friday, September 22nd, hence why we didn't confirm it above, but we do have a new video of them to share here! As uploaded to the band's Facebook page on Sunday, this comes from a private gig that the Obsession successors played at a camp party at Bass Lake (north of Leeburn) this past weekend, with Silent 9 seen covering Ozzy Osbourne's "Crazy Train". This isn't an ideal video of Silent 9 in that it's 19 seconds long and filmed from a boat leaving the dock, but it sure is a unique view of the fesitivities, and the band sounds good while it lasts, so check it out for yourselves below!
That's all for today, but stay tuned for weekend concert previews on the site next! Thanks everyone!
