LOCAL CONCERT ALERT (Black Cat Attack), New Videos, And More Assorted Notes!!

As we continue to clear our our cache of recent news items, here's a packed news post for your Tuesday, and it includes some assorted recent updates, new concert videos from each side of the border (coincidentally, both including Led Zeppelin covers), and leading things off, a LOCAL CONCERT ALERT for this summer, so here's what you need to know!

Oshawa "death punk" quartet Black Cat Attack will return to Sault Ontario for a headlining concert on Friday, July 8th at The Rockstar Bar! Almost three years removed from their local debut at the former Roosevelt Hotel in 2013 (ironically at a show relocated from The Algonquin Pub), this explosive genre-melding punk outfit should deliver strongly in their long awaited return to the Soo, and it never hurts that Sum 41 guitarist Dave "Brownsound" Baksh is a B.C.A. member as well! Frontwoman Valerie Knox's other band, Toronto grunge/punk quartet The Anti-Queens, will open in their local concert debut on July 8th, and their strong, to-the-point punk sound should get fans going as well at The Rockstar Bar this summer! Local support will come via punk/metal quintet Jack Spades (whose frontman J.D. Pearce is promoting this show), while at least one additional local band is to be announced, so message promoters at the official Facebook event page for more details just in case!

This 19+ concert has a 10:00 PM start time, and while admission will be $10, there will be some level of advance ticket sales, so stay tuned for updates on that front. It's great to see Black Cat Attack back in Sault Ste. Marie after such a long wait (I know the rumours of them playing Jack Spades' 2014 EP release show had some fans excited), so keep posted at the above links for full updates on what should be a big concert this summer!

Next up, here's some new videos, starting with lots of new concert videos from Sault Michigan classic/hard rock cover quartet Highway 63's show this past Friday at The Rapids Lounge at the Soo's Kewadin Casino branch! All shared to the band's Facebook page over the past few days via personal Facebook accounts, one comes from attendee Brian Boswood, who filmed 17 seconds of Highway 63 covering Billy Squier's "Everybody Wants You" that night, and while it's on the vertical cell phone camera angle, it's solid for what we get! The rest come from frontman Henry Switzer's own personal Facebook page, though the videos vary in length and camera orientation. Included are covers of Kiss' "Love Gun", part of Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger", AC/DC's "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap", Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'", The Outfield's "Your Love", the end of Led Zeppelin's "Rock & Roll", and as embedded below, Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love", so click each link to watch each video to see what went down on Friday!

It's great to see a wide variety of new videos of this talented quartet, as both a sign that they are still playing announced gigs despite their caesura on Facebook promotion of them, and to give fans a fresh look at their recent shows! The videos are well filmed, and the guys sound good, especially on the heavier tunes, so give Highway 63's new Facebook videos a look!

Also today, here's a couple more hard rock covers from new local blues/classic rock cover quartet Red & The Muscle! Uploaded to frontwoman Marisa Valois' YouTube channel last week, one is a short audio cover of Heart's "Alone", joining a pair of Aretha Franklin renditions, but embedded below is a part of a cover of Led Zeppelin's "Ramble On" from their debut concert at The Water Tower Inn earlier this month. It's a much better showcase of Marisa's strong vocal range compared to their earlier "Sweet Emotion" cover, and while the instruments are a little quiet, it's well done overall, so give it a look below, and see more from Red & The Muscle above!

Finally for today, here's three assorted shorter news items from the last while, and as usual, these are in alphabetical order by artist name:

  • In some clarification on new local band Gianni Gagoots (who are opening for Cocaine Moustache at July 12th's's punk rock bingo event at The New A), we can confirm that their lineup features Late Shift's Matt Sibilo on guitar, his former Redefined bandmate Josh St. Amour on bass, and veteran local punk drummer Frank McCormick on drums. Frank confirmed on the show's Facebook event page that they are a jam band inspired by numerous genres (including metal & punk) that make up songs on the spot. No word yet on their name's inspiration, who (if anyone) sings lead vocals, or if they'll launch an online page, but kudos to Frank for the info!
  • Troubled Mind drummer Mike Vincent's third original song since relaunching his solo project can now be heard at his Bandcamp page! Entitled "Six, Six, Six", it's a fast and heavy instrumental that has some thrash and groove metal elements, but the production is uneven. Give it a listen above, as well as newly mastered versions of Mike's first two 2016 songs!
  • We have moved Strongs, Michigan "backwoods metal" trio Swampghas to our inactive band links due to a year's inactivity. The Werehold Records-signed band hasn't posted an online update since their participation in March 2015's Friday the 13th music event, and we waited for this year's before making any calls on their status. Relaunched in 2012 after previously forming in 2001, Swampghas are a gritty & entertaining metal band whose album "The Raco Tower Incident" seemed to be coming along well, so hopefully we see Swampghas back soon, and best of luck to Jason, J.R., and Doug in the interim!

That's all for today, but stay tuned for last month's poll results on the site tomorrow, and for more news and previews as well! Thanks everyone!

LOCAL CONCERT ALERT (Project 906), Shit Liver Updates, And New Videos!!

We have a lot of stories to clear out on the site this week, so let's get that rolling with a new news post on this Monday morning, including some new videos related to this past weekend's concerts, overdue notes on a local band's recent SooToday coverage, and first, a LOCAL CONCERT ALERT for later this month!

Sault Michigan blues/hard rock cover quartet Project 906 will return to The Strongs Motel & Tavern in nearby Eckerman for their second show there on Saturday, May 28th! Marking their first announced concert since last night's Bay Mills Bands Together fundraiser in Brimley, this show comes a little over a month after their debut at The Strongs Tavern (at 28952 M-28), which the band heavily praised post-show, so hopefully the good vibes and hard hitting tunes continue there next weekend! Like last month, Project 906 will be rocking out at 9:00 PM next Saturday, you must be 21 years of age or older to attend, and there's no announced cover charge. For more details, visit the official Facebook event page, and stay tuned for more from the Ten Kings successors when announced!

Next up, here's the latest from Sault Ontario/St. Catharine's grindcore trio Shit Liver, who were profiled in this SooToday article on May 2nd by Donna Hopper (apologies for the delay), so what should you know within? Largely taken from the band's opening set at The Motherfuckers-headlined concert at The Oddfellows Hall on April 30th, the article features interview remarks from all three band members, where they discuss the benefits of their move down south, their love & passion for their music, and their bluegrass side-project Dirtfight, which features the guys alongside fiddler Matt Alvarez, who is a singer & guitarist in the St. Catharine's experimental punk collective Life Problems. You may have seen Dirtfight at The Gore Street Cafe on May 2nd, as well as at an open mic night during that stretch of Shit Liver's tour. Dirtfight are an interesting band for bluegrass fans, and they're solid in that genre, so give them a look for Josh, Mike, and Matt's other musical side!

Note that the article credits Shit Liver's formation as 2006 (presumably referencing their predecessor punk band OBCD's debut), but it's a solid article on a deserving band, and Donna got some more great photos at the show! Nine of Shit Liver, and six each of The Motherfuckers and fellow openers Jack Spades are included, and while they're all in black & white (and don't feature any shots of Winkstinger or Rotopsy), Donna got excellent clips as always, so give them and the full article a look at this link and/or above, and good luck to Shit Liver as their Canadian tour marches further west!

We'll close today with new videos, including a new Facebook video of local classic metal quintet Project 421's headlining show at The Rockstar Bar on Friday! Filmed by frontman Curtis McKenzie's girlfriend April Bryant, and shared from her personal Facebook page to the band's Facebook page on Saturday, this is of Project 421's debuting cover of Metallica's "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)" from their first set that night. A subsequent share by guitarist Blair Burch notes that there's "only one real screw-up", but he'd take it, and for a first playing, it sounds good! The video clarity isn't perfect, and Curt is hard to hear vocally, but it's a solid clip, so give it a look below!

Finally, here's a video that is admittedly late (my apologies!), but with the recent backlog on the site, we couldn't get it on here in time. Posted on Friday afternoon to their Facebook page, this is a preview video for local alternative hard rock trio The Din's LopLops Lounge debut on Saturday (where they opened for Sudbury's Sulfur City.) Shot at the venue on Friday, frontman Mike Haggith announced that their LopLops set would be all-original, before declaring that they were writing a new song (with guitarist Tammy Hill on piano), but I'll let you watch to determine what the "new song" is. Lighthearted promotion for what appears to have been a successful concert, so give the video a look below!

That's all for now, but stay tuned for more news and notes this week, as we continue to clear out our news cache! Thanks everyone!

Project 421/Eclipse Concert Review!!

Before we begin our latest concert review, I wanted to offer our deepest condolences to the family & friends of former Arnill's Music owner Barbara Arnill, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 83 after a battle with cancer. A native of Thessalon, Barbara owned Arnill's Music for three decades stretching from the 1960s until the 1990s across three different locations, and the store is credited by generations of local musicians as being very helpful in giving the tools and love of their instruments and craft, with Barbara and her family long being ardent supporters of local music. She is survived by five children, ten grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren, and numerous extended family members. Her services will be held tomorrow at the Arthur Funeral Home and Cremation Centre at 2:00 PM with George Wright presiding, with visitation at 12:30 PM, and a celebration of life occurring at The Royal Canadian Legion on Great Northern Road at 4:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Algoma Conservatory of Music. Though I was a child when Arnill's closed (Case's Music could be considered a spiritual successor), I have heard numerous reminiscences on Arnill's Music's impact and importance to musicians of many genres both before and after this sad news, and I'm sure her influence on local music won't soon be forgotten. R.I.P. Barbara!

Now, here's our review of Friday's Project 421-headlined concert at The Rockstar Bar! I haven't been to the venue in way too long, and while things were largely similar since early last year, the stage did have warmer lighting, and the black backdrop (installed for the brief Rockstar Republic club nights' experiment) has been taken down. Also, there was no obvious signs of the recent renovations that caused some concert moves & cancellations, or what exactly was being renovated, but I'm not able to confirm if they're completed or just masked well. Sadly, the turnout was medium at best, but there was a good reception all night, including for opener Jacob "Shit Creek Survivor" Quarrell, who delivered an entertaining set despite the sharp contrast from the bands to come! Playing a mixture of originals like "Sweather Weather" and "1,075" with covers of the likes of Walk the Moon and City & Colour, Jacob gets a good sound out of his somewhat small guitar, and continues to showcase a good melody and strong lyrics on his originals!

I'm not an ardent listener of folk or indie rock, but Shit Creek Survivor will fill the requirements well for genre fans, and while Jacob could be a little looser on stage, he's got a good thing going, so be sure to check out more from Shit Creek Survivor for his brand of folk rock!

Next up was local modern hard rock quartet Eclipse in their first show in a month, and they delivered a solid wallop for fans on Friday night! Melding originals like a few Haggith migrations with their newest track "Tyranny" and covers of the likes of Billy Talent, Led Zeppelin, and (especially) System of a Down, Eclipse kept up a high energy, bolstered with Curtis McKenzie's rangy and melodic vocals, and Daniel Horton's active guitar work! The band hasn't yet expanded to a quintet with a new full-time bassist yet, so Fred Dunn remained on bass last night, but he handled things just fine, so they'll be fine in the meantime! I did find that Curtis didn't banter with the crowd as much as he probably should have (the turnout may have played into that though), and his microphone didn't seem to be overly loud, but Eclipse delivered on Friday, and don't miss them at The Oddfellows Hall next weekend!

Headlining last night was Eclipse's sister band, classic metal quintet Project 421, in their first public concert in four months! This was actually the first time that I've seen their full current lineup since Curtis McKenzie rejoined the band on lead vocals last summer (just bad timing given the family health matters I've had lately), but the new lineup delivered the goods! Playing originals like "No One Rides For Free", "Into The Darkness", and their debuting opener "Denim & Leather", Project 421 rocked out a bunch of new and debuting originals for fans from bands like Metallica and Iron Maiden, and even some hair metal throwbacks like Poison and Twisted Sister in set #2! Curtis, Daniel, and drummer Chris Thompson maintained their momentum from Eclipse's set, with Curt's voice not visibly any worse for wear, while guitarists Blair Burch and Frank McGillivray were in solid form with some well played solos and riffs in their returns!

I couldn't stay for all of their songs, but it was great to see Project 421's 1980s nostalgia trip again, and hopefully their late-notice encore with Eclipse last night was also a huge hit! Overall, this was a fun show, especially for fans of Curtis & Daniel's long band history in the Soo, and you can check out our photos from Friday night at this link and/or at our Facebook page! As for our videos, here's Shit Creek Survivor playing their original "Swingin'", Eclipse playing their newest song "Tyranny", and Project 421 covering Black Sabbath's "Children of the Sea"!

That's all for now, but stay tuned for more news and notes on the site shortly! Thanks everyone!

LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Project 421 & The 3 Day Millionaires), Concert Cancellations, And A New Video!!

Before our review of last night's Project 421 show goes up on the site, we have a SHORT NOTICE LOCAL CONCERT ALERT and related show cancellation to take note of, so we'll round things out with some more new shows and cancellations, and a new video posting! Now, here's what you need to know! (Updated at 1:05 AM)

Local classic metal quintet Project 421 and sister modern hard rock band Eclipse have been enlisted to replace Barrie AC/DC tribute band Hells Bells TONIGHT at The Rockstar Bar for their second show in as many days there! Apologies for the obviously short notice, we only heard about the replacement via guitarist Blair Burch's personal Facebook page this morning, with this Facebook event page following to confirm Eclipse's involvement. Martin Fiser from the venue confirmed on The Rockstar Bar's Facebook group this morning that the Hells Bells show "has been postponed", with a rescheduling to be announced soon, and while advance tickets purchased for tonight will be honoured for the new date, ticket holders can get a refund at The Algonqin Hotel's front desk if desired. A reason for Hells Bells dropping out wasn't given, but I don't believe it's related to the recent renovations at the venue, as Project 421's show last night went off without a hitch. Disappointing news, but hopefully Hells Bells are back A.S.A.P.!

As a result, Project 421 & Eclipse make sense to double up, as they had strong sets last night, and hopefully they can deliver similarly on short notice TONIGHT! In Shit Creek Survivor's place, Curtis McKenzie (who fronts both bands) will open TONIGHT with a rare solo set, where he'll play acoustic originals & 1990s covers, which should be very intriguing for fans of his somewhat mysterious solo project, so come early for all of the action! There's a 10:00 PM-ish start time, a $5 cover charge, and a 19+ age limit in effect, so see above for more details, and here's Project 421 live!

Next up, local classic/hard rock cover quartet The 3 Day Millionaires are advertised to rock The Rockstar Bar on Friday, May 27th & Saturday, May 28th! Though neither the venue nor band has confirmed the bookings online yet, the dates are included on paper flyers of the May 2016 schedule that are distributed at the venue itself, so there's your source until an online announcement is made. Last seen at The Park Grille last week, this will be the first Rockstar Bar weekend from this union of Havadder, Boxcar Junction, and Lucky 13 alumni since the St. Patrick's Day weekend. The 3 Day Millionaires are fast becoming fan favourites, so don't miss their next announced shows at The Rockstar Bar at month's end! As usual for their shows there, a 10:00 PM-ish start time is in effect, you must be 19 or older to attend, and there's no announced cover charges. See above for more details, and stay tuned for more from The 3 Day Millionaires!

For reference sake, the same flyer at The Rockstar Bar also lists fellow classic/hard rock veterans Havadder as having played there this past Saturday, but from what I can tell, the venue never confirmed the show online, and Havadder haven't posted on their Facebook page since March, so I doubt the show took place. If we're wrong though, my sincere apologies, and hopefully we see Havadder back soon either way!

Also, we have some concert cancellations to take note of, as it looks like The Park Grille's live band experiment has abruptly ended after just six weeks. We noted this briefly in our second post yesterday, but the news came out via members of local classic/hard rock cover quartet Mourning Wood's personal Facebook pages last night, revealing that the Industrial Park Crescent restaurant (depending on your source) has either ceased concert bookings until further notice, or permanently. As such, Mourning Wood's show there last night did not take place (they instead played an ultra-late notice show at The Rednecks Saloon, apologies for missing it on here!), and we have removed The 3 Day Millionaires' & Mourning Wood's Park Grille shows over the next two Fridays from our concert listings. Mourning Wood drummer Glen Thomas cited revenue concerns and retaining dinner crowds as factors in the decision via his personal Facebook page, but note that The Park Grille has not confirmed anything online since.

The Park Grille had hosted live bands since the beginning of April, with blues rockers Mojo also among the three-band roster, and while it's disappointing to see the live band experiment end this soon, I know all three will have lots more concerts in store for the near future! And apologies again for missing Mourning Wood's late Rednecks Saloon show, we'd have plugged it had we heard about it beforehand!

We'll close today with a new Shaw TV feature on local punk/metal quintet Jack Spades! Posted to Shaw's local YouTube channel on Thursday after an earlier run on channel 10's rotation (which I don't recall being plugged online by the band), this combines multi-camera video footage from the band's set at March's second annual Speak Easy Battle of the Bands with interview clips that were shot at last month's Motherfuckers-headlined show at The Oddfellows Hall, with Id Iota frontman Christian Lemay filming (at least) the concert clips. The interview features Jack Spades (sans guitarist Jesse Cook) discussing their formation and early beginnings, their experiences playing out of town and opening for major punk bands, the unpredictability of their concerts, and more, and it's an informative piece that gives Jack Spades some solid press! Give the full video a look below, and don't miss Jack Spades at drummer Johnny Belanger's birthday show next week!

That's all for now, but stay tuned for our Project 421 concert review from last night next! Thanks everyone!

Bay Mills Band Together Preview, Friday The 13th New Music On Werehold Records (Part 10), And More!!

Before we get to this all-Sault Michigan post, we have a concert cancellation to take note of, as local classic/hard rockers Mourning Wood are not playing at The Park Grille tonight. Frontman Terry Eaton confirmed the news on drummer Glen Thomas' personal Facebook page earlier today, saying that bands at the venue "are on hold until further notice." He, the band, and/or the venue haven't elaborated since, but hopefully this is a temporary measure, as the venue seemed to be well received, and don't miss Mourning Wood at Rednecks TOMORROW! Now, today's post has one last concert preview, a label's long awaited resurgence, and a new cover video, so here's what you need to know!

A number if local musicians will join forces for a great cause THIS SUNDAY NIGHT when they take part in Bay Mills Bands Together! at Pickles Bar & Grill in Brimley! This benefit show is in support of Maryssa Kronemeyer, an area high schooler who was seriously injured after being hit by a car in March. To that end, all proceeds will go to her and her family & the related medical costs, so definitely consider coming out to support the cause! In a unique format, Sunday's bands will be playing on two stages at Pickles, one acoustic and one for plugged in bands, so who all is scheduled? The main stage will feature headlining local hard/blues rock quartet Project 906 at 12:00 AM, with a mysterious band named The Whole Shabang (replacing or renamed from Brainstorm) playing at 11:00 PM, and online page-less metal quartet Stoned Ape Evolution hitting the stage at 10:00 PM. The remaining main stage bands will include the family band The Karstons at 9:00 PM and Broke On Sunday frontman Mark Bowen at 8:00 PM.

The acoustic stage will be headlined by Train Wreck alum Mitchell Willis and Brenda (last name not given) at 9:45, preceded by Infathom frontman Dillion Semasky with a solo (rap?) set at 8:40 PM, Ken Jahnke at 7:30 PM, Mitchell & Brenda again at 6:50 PM, and country/pop artist Caitlin LeBlanc opening at 6:00 PM. Door prizes and a 50/50 draw will also take place on Sunday to be drawn during the show, which has a $5 minimum cover, and this is presumably still a 21+ event. Though there's a lot of unknowns regarding the lineup, this should be a great event for Marissa and her family, so visit the official Facebook event page for more details, and here's Project 906 live!

Next up, Sault Michigan independent record label Werehold Records has re-emerged for their seventh Friday the 13th music posting event! After mass artist "downtime" scuttled the November 13th plans, the label is back for their first Friday the 13th music since March of last year, but compared to past installments, this latest event is fairly lean. Label acts Awaken Eidolen, Drayton Fever, East Branch, Moss, Palaver, and Swampghas are all not featured, but we do have 2 songs to take note of,  including this new song from Werehold's flagship metal band Life's Eclipse! We were actually this close to moving them to our inactive band links if there was no Friday the 13th postings, so it's great to see that they're still active! Entitled "When The Night Falls", it's planned to be the first song on their album "The Dark Kingdom", and it has a nice dramatic opening and a melodic groove metal base, though in this form at least, it's an instrumental. A little repetitive, but it's very heavy, and the opening sets the tone well for the planned album, so give Life's Eclipse's newest song a look!

The other new Friday the 13th song from Werehold Records comes from label owner/Life's Eclipse mainman Jason Mills' solo side project The 1,000,000,000s Who Died, whose song is called "Beneath The Black". A short 1:50 number, it has a crushing riff at it's peak, but parts do sound artificial, and I'm not sure what the description comment of "stupid chorus" means when the song is an instrumental. It's a strong song while it lasts though, so give it a look below, and hopefully we see more from Werehold Records by the next Friday the 13th in January 2017!

Finally, here's the latest solo guitar cover from ex-Elipzis bassist Ryan Harrison's YouTube channel, this time a cover of The Beatles' "The Ballad of John & Yoko", albeit with completely different lyrics and the new title "The Ballad of Rocky & Lil" (perhaps this is a reference to friends of his?) Resembling an old webcam with the washed out colour and low framerate, the song itself is well done and is well suited to Ryan's vocal range, so give it a look below!

That's all for today, but we'll see you at The Rockstar Bar TONIGHT for Project 421's return to the stage! Thanks everyone!

LOCAL CONCERT ALERT (The Din) & More Weekend Concert Previews!!

Our second weekend concert preview post is here, but with a SHORT NOTICE LOCAL CONCERT ALERT to lead things off, we've been forced to extend our previews to one more post, so Sunday's Bay Mills Band Together fundraiser in Brimley, Michigan will instead be featured in our next news post. Look for that then, and now, here's more of what you should know on each side of the border regarding most of this weekend's remaining hard rock shows!

Local alternative/hard rock trio The Din will make their LopLops Lounge debut TOMORROW NIGHT when they open for Sudbury blues rock quintet Sulfur City! Apologies for the short notice, The Din only confirmed their involvement in the show last night via their Facebook page, though it's worth noting that the venue hasn't said the same as of last night. Despite the late notice, The Din should entertain at LopLops TOMORROW, and their sound would lend itself to certain shows at the downtown venue, so don't miss Mike, Tammy, and Brendan this weekend! Sulfur City (who were spotlighted in this Sault Star interview from Wednesday) are a very creative band who meld many different genres into their high-energy and soulful live concerts, with frontwoman Lori Paradis even playing an electric washboard during sets, so don't miss out on what I believe is their local debut TOMORROW either! Doors open at 8:00 PM for this 19+ concert, which has a $5 cover charge, so visit the official Facebook event page for more details, and here's The Din live!

Moving to previously announced concerts, we'll head across the river to the Sault Michigan area next, starting with the return of Kinross classic/hard rock trio Banned to The Northern Pines Lounge at the St. Ignace Kewadin Casino TONIGHT & TOMORROW NIGHT! Fresh off of their Brimley show last week, these will be Alex, Wayne, and Don's first shows at St. Ignace's Kewadin branch in just under a month, and if you're at all familiar with Banned's varied and often heavy sets, you should be eager to check out Banned once again this weekend! They're not advertised to return to St. Ignace again until September, so just in case, you might want to take note of these ones! As usual for Banned's Kewadin stops, there's a 9:00 PM start time for tonight & tomorrow, you must be 21 or older to attend, and there's no announced cover charges. Check the above links for more info, and here's Banned live!

Also in the Eastern Upper Peninsula this weekend, Sault Michigan classic/hard rock quartet Highway 63 are advertised to return to The Rapids Lounge at the Sault Michigan Kewadin Casino TONIGHT & TOMORROW NIGHT! Though the Monkey's Uncle successors are continuing their recent trend of not advertising concerts through their Facebook page, these shows are still on at last word, and will mark Highway 63's first at The Rapids Lounge in about 3 weeks. The Switzers and company should put in another solid weekend of familiar covers for fans and friends in the Soo over the coming nights, so definitely consider a trip to the Sault Kewadin tonight and/or tomorrow for some Highwat 63 action! There's no announced cover charges for these 21+ shows, which will start at 9:00 PM both nights. Check the above links for more details, and here's Highway 63 live!

Finally for this preview post, we'll take a detour back to Sault Ontario, where Montreal alternative/punk quartet Lost Love will make their local debut with a headlining concert at The New American Pub THIS SUNDAY NIGHT! Lost Love's gritty yet melodic pop punk attack should be what the doctor ordered for genre fans this spring, and they have good energy and chemistry, so be sure not to miss them at The New A to end the weekend! The local openers will be pop punk quintet Northwest, who fans haven't seen on stage in nine months, which is way too long, and while it's not clear where they've been lately, don't miss their long awaited return to the stage on Sunday night! A rare non-metal concert from promoters Six, Two, Oh., this 19+ concert will start at 9:00 PM on Sunday, and it has a $5 cover charge. For more details, visit the official Facebook event page, and for a preview, here's Lost Love live in 2014!

That's all for today, but stay tuned for our Bay Mills Band Together preview and more next! Thanks everyone!

LOCAL CONCERT ALERT (Mourning Wood) & Most Of This Weekend's Sault Ontario Concert Previews!!

With another busy concert weekend upon us, here's the first of the hard rock concert previews for the coming days! Due to the amount, we'll be reserving Sault Michigan-area previews and Sunday's Lost Love concert at The New A for tomorrow's previews, so look for them then, and yes, we'll touch on any super-late notice shows if announced as well. Now, let's get started with a SHORT NOTICE LOCAL CONCERT ALERT!

Local classic/hard rock cover favourites Mourning Wood will play at The Rednecks Saloon THIS SATURDAY NIGHT, one day after their previously announced Park Grille return takes place TOMORROW NIGHT! Apologies for the short notice on SATURDAY's show, we only heard about it via drummer Glen Thomas' personal Facebook page earlier this week, and while he admitted that the show was a "last minute" booking, at least there's more warning than their Reggie's Place gigs tend to get. This should be a busy weekend as usual for Mourning Wood, with Glen confirming that they'll be playing as a trio this weekend (I'd assume that bassist Paul Belair will be absent), so if you miss their original power trio days, these shows may be of note! Remember, their show tomorrow was postponed from last week after they switched dates at the Industrial Park Crescent restaurant with The 3 Day Millionaires, who were originally advertised for tomorrow.

Tomorrow's Park Grille show is an 8:00 PM event, while SATURDAY NIGHT'S Rednecks show will likely be at 10:00 PM with a 19+ age limit, and neither show has an announced cover charge. Check the above links for more details, and here's Mourning Wood live!

Next up, let's move to some previously announced concerts, starting with the return of local classic metal quintet Project 421 to the stage TOMORROW NIGHT at The Rockstar Bar! After almost 4 months off due to varying personal matters, this talented quintet will break out their old school metal covers and originals once again for this headlining concert, and they should deliver a fun and heavy set (or two?) tomorrow night, with some new material in tow! Their sister band, modern hard rock quartet Eclipse, will open in their first show since last month's Rednecks Rock Bash, and they'll obviously be great fits, especially if you want to see 3/5ths of Project 421 tackling newer songs! Opening will be Jacob "Shit Creek Survivor" Quarrell in a solo acoustic set, and while his indie/folk material is a definite contrast from tomorrow's bands, his talents and PaperClip Productions ties will help set the mood, so come early to check him out! However, I can't confirm if the recent renovations at The Algonquin Hotel will impact this concert.

Promoted by Project 421 bassist/Eclipse guitarist Daniel Horton, this show has a $5 cover charge (presumably as it's a multi-band event), and doors open at 9:00 PM, while you must be 19 or older to attend. This should be a great concert for metal and hard rock fans, and with the long wait to see Project 421 back on stage, definitely don't take this one for granted! Visit the official Facebook event page for more details, and here's Project 421 live!

We'll head back to The Rockstar Bar in a second, but let's first touch on local hard rock singer/guitarst Tym Morrison's next solo acoustic concerts, which will see him rock Gliss Steak & Seafood at The Quality Inn once again TOMORROW & SATURDAY! As Tym's ongoing weekly concert arrangement at Gliss marches on, fans at the downtown restaurant should take to his skilled blend of unplugged covers once again, so if you enjoy his music and/or have missed his recent Gliss shows, be there for either of this weekend's matinees! Like usual for Tym's series here, there's no announced cover charges, 6:00 PM start times, and no announced age limits for tomorrow or Saturday, but remember where they are being held. For more details, visit the official Facebook event page, and for a preview, here's Tym live!

Finally for this preview post, we'll head back to The Rockstar Bar for the return of Barrie-based AC/DC tribute band Hells Bells THIS SATURDAY NIGHT! Last seen locally in November at a very well received concert, this entertaining tribute will being their faithful looking and sounding brand of high voltage rock n' roll back to the local stage, and AC/DC fans will definitely be interested to see Hells Bells in action on Saturday! Again, I have no idea if The Algonquin Hotel's recent renovations will impact this concert at all, but remember that Bon Jovi Forever went on as scheduled last week. Advance tickets for this concert are on sale at The Algonquin Hotel's front desk for $12 (it's not clear if the door charge will be higher, but prepare for that scenario), you must be 19 or older to attend, and an early start time of 8:00 PM is advertised, though a later actual start time wouldn't surprise me. For more details, visit the Facebook event page, and here's Hells Bells live!

That's all for today, but stay tuned for Sault Michigan and Lost Love previews next! Thanks everyone!
