Defunct Local Band Profile Series: Eden Plague & Leaked
Now's a good time for our last Defunct Local Band Profiles of the year, as we continue out monthly spotlights of defunct and inactive local metal, hard rock, and punk bands! This month, we drew two randomly selected bands, as the first didn't have enough surviving information to fill out a full profile. Both of this month's bands feature a recently familiar face, and one band will be particularly visible if you're a Korah Colt, so read on below for this month's Defunct Local Band Profiles! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Eden Plague
Genre:Black Metal
Hometown:Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario
Members:
"Lucifus Omegus" Mitch Sirie (The Bear Hunters), all instruments
Info/Analysis: A short lived black metal project from Bear Hunters guitarist Mitch Sirie that ran from 2010-2011, Eden Plague was distinct from his more varied and prolonged solo project (most recently under the Sorrow Fields name.) One of the rare recent examples of an original black metal act in Sault Ste. Marie, Eden Plague didn't get far off the ground, only posting two songs onto their MySpace page in early 2011 before falling inactive by year's end, though Mitch remains active with The Bear Hunters and sporadically in other solo ventures. In Eden Plague's two songs (the Sorrow Fields-transferred "Zen Omega" and, as embedded below, "Barren"), you do get a sense of Mitch's musical range beyond his typical death metal focus, with "Barren" harbouring a doom metal essence at times, and "Zen Omega" having a catchy groove, though the latter's production wasn't as hot, and the "nightmate remix" of that song is inferior and too processed. Mitch's multi-instrumental talents and growling vocals should be utilized more, and hopefully he revisits his solo music!
Members: Matt Schell, vocals/bass Tammy Hill (The Din, Mustang Sally), guitar Nic Buckner (Mustang Sally), drums
Info/Analysis: Formed by Korah Collegiate & Vocational School students last spring and largely seen live at outdoor school-related events, Leaked debuted at Korah's Buick Drive For Your Students event in May 2015, which they followed with a set at the next month's Relay For Life festivities, though if they played other live sets, the band didn't acknowledge them on their Facebook page. After guitarist Tammy Hill joined alt-hard rock trio The Din in late 2015, Leaked quietly fell inactive, while The Din have since played Korah-linked events on occasion. Unless you were a student or staff member at Korah last year, Leaked will have flown under the radar, but their only video showcases covers of bands like Golden Earring and The Beatles, and while Matt's vocals can be hard to make out, they have a good base, and Tammy's guitar skills are clear as day! It'd be interesting to see Leaked reunite, but don't miss Tammy with The Din!

I hope you guys liked this month's Defunct Local Band Profiles! Next month in this series, our random selection will take us to one Sault Ontario band to kick off 2017, namely late 1990s/early 2000s punk favourites Bankshot! This should be an interesting profile, so look for it on or around January 10th, and stay tuned for more news and notes soon! Thanks everyone!
