LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Bone Yard 225, Soundcheck, And Tym Morrison) & Weekend Concert Previews!!

For this first concert weekend of 2024's last month, we have to divide things into two posts again, primarily thanks to a bunch of SHORT NOTICE LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS hitting the news desk this week! As such, previews of Oz's Sault Michigan dates and the Generations/HeadFirst double booking at Shooters in Sault Ontario on Saturday (I'll explain what I know) in tomorrow's post. Now, here's what you should know to start the weekend!

Local classic/hard rock cover quartet Soundcheck will reportedly return to The Water Tower Pub for one night only TOMORROW NIGHT! Apologies for the short notice, this show was only announced via the venue's December concert calendar, which was posted onto their Facebook page on Tuesday (at least they posted one for this month, as they didn't for November). No, Soundcheck have not publically confirmed this booking on their Facebook page, but they never promoted their November dates there either. Last seen at the Great Northern Road nightclub in early October, hopefully TOMORROW'S concert sees Soundcheck deliver more classic and hard rock favourites for assembled fans looking to escape the recent cold and stormy weather! Remember, The Water Tower Pub hosts different nightly acts, with classic rock quartet RPM playing there on Saturday night.

As usual for The Water Tower Pub, Soundcheck will take the stage TOMORROW at 8:00 PM, this is a 19+ event, and there is no announced cover charge. Even with the lack of advertising on the band's end, Soundcheck should have a good night of hard hitting covers in store TOMORROW at The Water Tower Pub, so visit the above links for more details, and here they are live!

Next up, local classic/hard rock singer/guitarist Tym Morrison will return to Misty's Fifties for another matinee concert THIS SATURDAY! Again, apologies for the short notice, Tym only announced this show via its official Facebook event page this morning. Three weeks removed from his last Saturday matinee at the venerable Second Line West bar and restaurant, Tym will bring his acoustic solo project back to the site of his weekly summer matinee series on SATURDAY, so if you like his unplugged classic and hard rock covers, head west for all of the action! This 19+ show has no announced cover charge, and while it presumably takes place on SATURDAY at 4:00 PM once again, be advised that Tym's event page lists the start time as 3:45 AM. I don't know whether it is legitimately starting 15 minutes early and he forgot to make it PM or if there was a complete error, but keep that in mind.

Regardless, Tym is a talented singer/guitarist who should help Misty's regulars and fans alike beat the winter blues, so visit the above links for more on SATURDAY'S matinee, and for a preview, here he is live!

Also newly confirmed this weekend, local southern hard rock trio Bone Yard 225 will return to Gateway Casino for another "uncorked" concert on SATURDAY NIGHT! Apologies again for the short notice, the band only announced this show on their Facebook page on Monday, and it is not listed whatsoever on their website's concert calendar nor the casino's Facebook page. Fresh off of braving this past weekend's snowstorm at The Esquire Club, this will be your local 225's first acoustic show since rocking The Water Tower Pub last month, and their first such booking at Sault Ontario's downtown casino in three months. Despite the minimal notice online, hopefully Greg, Alex, and Warren rock the house despite saving their "lighter side" for all of their casino gigs! Bone Yard are not playing anywhere tomorrow, but SATURDAY's show is at 9:00 PM with a 19+ age limit and no cover charge.

Visit the above links for more details, and for a preview, here's two new videos of Bone Yard 22live, courtesy of their Facebook page! One sees them playing their debut original song "FAFO" during their closing set at Toystock two weeks ago, and it sounds good from close angles, but alas, filmer Mike Haggith (who played earlier that day) shot this vertically. Embedded below is a less heavy cover from their Esquire Club show this past Saturday, which was live-streamed and horizontal! This cover of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers' "Runnin' Down A Dream" is faithfully handled by these three pros via a stationary camera, so do check out both videos above and below, and don't miss Bone Yard unplugged on SATURDAY!

To close this first preview post, we'll head to the aforementioned Esquire Club, where local classic/hard rock cover quartet Double Down will return for shows TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT! Like Brad & Ric's old band above, Double Down weathered the storm this past weekend when they rocked The Water Tower Pub on Saturday, while this weekend's previously announced shows will be their first the Second Line West nightclub in almost a month. Hopefully there's a reasonably strong turnout for this talented foursome this weekend, so don't miss one night and/or the other for some classic and hard rock favourites, and maybe some surprises? These shows begin at 9:30 PM with 19+ age limits and no announced cover charge. See above for more details, and for a preview, we have three new videos from The Water Tower Pub this past Saturday to acknowledge, so what can you see in these?

Filmed by attendee Dave Newman, the videos see Double Down covering The Stone Temple Pilots' "Plush" (with guitarist Beej Syrette on vocals), The Temptations' "Shakey Ground" (with bassist Brad Stephen on vocals), and as embedded below, their extended 7+ minute jam of Daft Punk & Pharrell Williams' "Get Lucky" with Beej's cousin Joel on vocals. Good stuff all around, with a nice cross-section of the band's vocal diversity, and while a Daft Punk cover may seem atypical, I'm sure Double Down included it in their set as a dance floor number to get attendees grooving, especially given how they extended it. Check these out above and below, and don't miss them this weekend!

That's all for now, but stay tuned for our Oz, Generations, and HeadFirst previews next! Thanks everyone!
