Before we begin this weekend's concert previews, just a heads up that Kinross, Michigan rockers Banned are not playing at the Kinross Speedpark on Saturday or on September 6th due to their recent breakup. The race track's website still lists the latter date at press time, but a local band named Tarnished are slated to play on Saturday instead, and we'll let you know if they prove to be hard rock at all. With that said, this is still a busy concert weekend as we near Rotaryfest, so let's kick things off for this post with a SHORT NOTICE LOCAL CONCERT ALERT!
Joining their previously announced Esquire Club concerts TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT, local classic/hard rock cover quartet Soundcheck will reportedly play a Thursday nighter at Reggie's West TONIGHT as well! Apologies for the short notice, that show was only publically announced via this Facebook event page yesterday, though it was on members' personal Facebook pages beforehand. Fans may recall seeing Soundcheck at the Reggievelt last Thursday as the fill-ins for blues rock trio Mojo's weekly jam night there, with Soundcheck maintaining the jam structure for the occasion. Well, Mojo are still off this week, so Soundcheck are filling in again TONIGHT, before their previously advertised Esquire Club concerts keep them rocking the west end all weekend long. As Terry, Travis, Paul(?), and Glen continue the march towards Rotaryfest, hopefully this weekend's shows are hits as usual!
As usual, all three of these concerts have likely 10:00 PM start times, no cover charges, and 19+ age limits. Hopefully Soundcheck deliver three more home runs this weekend, so consider trips to either of these west end venues whether you want the full regular show or a jam night TONIGHT! See above and the Esquire Club shows' Facebook event page for more details, and for a preview, here's Soundcheck live at Reggie's West earlier this year!
Next up, we'll move to shows that were entirely previously announced, including local hard rock singer/guitarist Tym Morrison's ongoing weekly concert arrangement at Gliss Restaurant, as he'll be back at the Spring Street establishment for acoustic matinee concerts TOMORROW & SATURDAY once again! No public nighttime gigs are on the record for this weekend, so if you want to see Tym's skilled and prolific blend of classic and more modern covers, you'll want to head to the former Cesira's location around supper-time, where Tym has played weekly since Gliss moved last year, and for far longer prior at it's old location. If you're up for a more intimate, reserved night of music, and/or want some dinner at a prime downtown location, you know where to go this weekend! Tym will be on at 6:00 PM tomorrow and Saturday, and there are no announced age limits or cover charges, though mind the locale. Click here for more details, and here's Tym live!
Also this weekend, let's head across to the Eastern Upper Peninsula, where Sault Michigan hard rock quartet 415E will return to the stage TOMORROW & SATURDAY NIGHT at The Northern Pines Lounge at the St. Ignace Kewadin Casino! Only seen on stage occasionally since reuniting last fall, this will be 415E's first concert weekend since playing at the same Kewadin branch in February, and these are surprisingly their only announced concerts of 2019 until they play the Sault Kewadin on New Year's Eve. I don't know why 415E have been so quiet since their return (they didn't even directly plug the February shows on their Facebook page), but these shows have gotten recent advertising, and hopefully Dave, Chris, Brett, and Jason deliver a hard hitting and well recieved weekend for fans in St. Ignace! As usual for shows there, these are 9:00 PM affairs with 21+ age limits and no cover charges. See above for more details, and here's 415E v1.0 live!
Finally for this weekend, we'll head 45 minutes southeast to Richards Landing, Ontario on St. Joseph Island, where local Celtic punk quintet Dustin Jones & The Rising Tide will become the first heavier or punk band to ever play the third-year Go North Music Festival THIS SATURDAY! A spiritual successor to the original Cornfest, this festival will take place at the same site (Centennial Grounds at 1511 Richards Street), and will unite local and touring musical talent with an array of local art, food, and craft beer vendors, plus craft beer, children's activities and entertainers, and overnight camping is welcome as well. Click here for full details on the day's non-musical events! As per this schedule, The Tide are the opening band at 3:30 PM, while the other acts will include (in descending order) Toronto folk rock band Birds of Bellwoods & singer/songwriter Skye Wallace at 10:45 and 9:45 PM each, Juno nominated local country singer Crystal Shawanda at 8:30 PM, Toronto indie rock band Sun K at 7:30 PM...
...London rock musician Sarah Smith at 6:30 PM, local indie rock artist Jesse Merineau & his solo band at 5:30 PM, and Hamilton indie rock quartet Another Crush playing at 4:30 PM. While not heavy or punk after The Rising Tide's set, there is a lot of talent on display for this young festival, and hopefully there's a great turnout in Richards Landing on Saturday! Tickets for this festival are $50 at the gate, $40 at this link, $15 for 13-18 year olds, and FREE for kids 12 and under. while gates open at 3:00 PM. This should be a great time for local music fans up for a trip to St. Joseph Island, so see above for more details, and here's Dustin Jones & The Rising Tide live!
That's all for today, but stay tuned for more news and updates on the site in the coming days! Thanks everyone!
