Three Days Grace Concert Preview, Nixxon Dixxon Show Updates, And Lots More!

Well guys, the wait for a major hard rock band to return to The Essar Center tomorrow night, and I'll give you a rundown of all you need to know for this concert in this post! Also got lots of assorted news updates so here's what you guys need to know tonight, starting with this local concert preview!

Tomorrow night, Juno nominated alt/hard rockers Three Days Grace return to The Essar Center for their second headlining performance in Sault Ontario, and the first major metal concert at the arena since Jackyl and Slaughter played there over a year and a half ago! Best known for #1 singles like "Just Like You", "Animal I Have Become", "Pain", "Never Too Late", and "Break", Three Days Grace have two platinum albums, and are one of the most popular Canadian rock bands going nowadays! Please leave any debates over whether they're metal or not alone, many people think they are, and there's enough metal in 3DG for SMS coverage. Supporting Three Days Grace tomorrow night: Utah pop rockers The Used (best known for their single "The Bird and The Worm"), and fellow Canadian rock band Default (best known for the song "Wasting My Time"!) Though neither are metal, both have good fanbases and should get a positive reaction tomorrow night, so check out their pages by clicking their names!

As you may be aware, Three Days Grace previously rocked the then-Steelback Center way back on January 24, 2008, in a headlining concert with Seether and Econoline Crush as openers! I vastly prefer them to The Used and Default, but that's one metalhead's opinion. I was at that show, I had lots of fun, I don't put it on the same level as the Heaven and Hell concert, but it was good in it's own way! Here's a video of the concert to show as a preview, a clip of the band playing their hit song "Home"! Good quality for what I think is a cell phone, thanks to YouTube user Oshkabewisens1984 for the upload! Note: there's way more than just this for clips of the first 3DG show on YouTube, search for some others too!

Hopefully you guys have a ticket and are going tomorrow, but if not, never fear, tickets are still available! I'm surprised this hasn't sold out yet! Floor tickets are still available for $44.50, and seats are available for $39.50! You can buy your tickets at The Essar Center box office, via phone at 1-866-775-9422, or you can still buy tickets online at LiveNation too! Visit this location for info on how you can buy special VIP packages to meet the band and get extra swag too! Doors for the concert open at 6:00 PM, everything starts at 7:00 PM! I will definitely be there, but I may be slightly late due to a late class at LSSU. There's nothing mentioned explicitly about a camera restriction, but I'm not sure if I'll have mine, we'll see how things go! Should be a good concert, I've always been a fan of Three Days Grace, even as my musical tastes slowly got darker and less mainstream. Can't say the same for the openers, but I'll be honest if they impress me! I'll see you guys there tomorrow evening! Get full details on the concert at this location!

Now, onto some news! And I've learned of some updates to Nixxon Dixxon's tour schedule through August! Following their shows this weekend in Tower, Michigan, their 2009 schedule has been pared down, with some shows moved around. Let me run through everything as simply as I can: The band's scheduled concerts at Kewadin Casino for February 19-20, March 12-13, April 2-3, and June 11-12 have been cancelled, as have their shows at Kewadin Casino in St. Ignace on January 8-9 and July 23-24. Their planned concerts May 21-22 and August 13-14 have been moved to Sault Michigan, while shows have been added for July 30-31 in Sault Michigan, and April 9-10 and June 18-19 in St. Ignace as well! So take the newly changed dates as a LOCAL CONCERT ALERT, I suppose! Each show will still start at 9:00 PM. Sad to see half their old dates disappear, but at least there's still plenty of opportunities to see Nixxon Dixxon live! Now fingers crossed they'll book an all ages show before June so I don't have to wait til I turn 21 to see a full set! Complete listings are available on their MySpace page, thanks to Ernest Beaumont for the info!

Speaking of Nixxon Dixxon, local photographer Curt O'Neil has posted some more excellent quality photos from the finals of the Kiss Battle of the Bands online at his official website! Curt took pictures of three more bands at the battle: Garden of Bedlam as a warm up (Curt's known Buzz for years), Blues Harvest by request, and Nixxon Dixxon because he felt bad for Chris Hubbard's amp not working for part of their first song. I'd have of course liked to see pics of all the bands, but these are amazing quality, I'd love to have skills like this at photography! Check out all of the pics Curt took at this location, thanks to him for letting me know! And remember to see his photos of Lion Ride too by clicking here!

Next, more Kiss concert news, courtesy of The Sault Star! Frank Dobrovnik has posted another new article in today's paper (internet link here) about the surprisingly high amount of tickets purchased by Sault Ontario residents for this concert, compared to other Kiss shows that tend to have a more diverse makeup of people from other cities and regions. As few as five percent of tickets purchased came from people not in the Sault area, which is good to see! People may have complained that they couldn't get a ticket, but at least most of the tickets that were sold did go to Saultites! And the few that are purchasing from out of town are from Northern Ontario and the U.P. for the most part, so it should be a nice makeup of locals on the 15th! Read Frank's full article at this location! I'll see you guys a week from tomorrow at The Essar Center for the Kiss show, the Kiss-themed SMS logo and banner are unveiled on Wednesday!

Next, you remember earlier today when I shared a video of a live broadcast of Rock 101's "The Hair Scare" featuring author Duane Roy? Well, that was only part one of the interview, part two has been uploaded onto Duane's YouTube channel, so you can check that out immediately below! Also, he's already planning his next book, which may be even more intriguing from a local standpoint! He is starting work on a book similar to "Castle Stories" about concert history, photos, and information from shows at Sault Memorial Gardens! That'd be a good read too, I bet it'd sell well also! For your metal reference, Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent, and Rush played there in the past, among many other bands! My source for the news on this new book? Brian Kelly from The Sault Star, who interviewed Duane for an article on "Castle Stories" in the paper recently too! Great read, check it out at this location! But here's the second part of his interview with Scott Cook on Rock 101!

And finally, I have learned a bit more about the new local band Silver Dream. Thanks to his adding me on Facebook, I can confirm that one member is ex-Dirty Virgin drummer Matt Hicks! Looks like they found the drummer they were looking for! Not sure on the remaining band members, I haven't found a band page for Silver Dream yet, or additional info, but I'll be sure to let you guys know once I do! Also, I found out from Matt that his older brother is actually Ken Luxton, the singer from Foothill Road! That's awesome, I'd never heard that before! Once I hear more on Silver Dream, I'll be sure to let you guys know! That's all for tonight, unless I have a load of news tomorrow worthy of a new post, your next update will be my review of the Three Days Grace concert! Stay tuned, hope to see some of you guys there!
