LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS (Lion Ride & Mr. Denton on Doomsday), Plus New Local Bands And Plenty More!!!

Huge post today. I repeat, HUGE! Not only do we have two LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS, there's also an out of town show featuring a local band, two bands looking to play here this fall, a new link in the links section, AND two new local bands to add to the band links! So let's get right to it!

Remember a couple days ago when I mentioned how Coch's Corner has a bunch of quality shows coming up in late August/early September? Well, here's another concert to add to that! Sault natives Lion Ride will bring their punk/glam metal stylings to Coch's Corner on August 28th, just one day before taking the stage at the final edition of Hempfest! They will apparently be playing at 9:00 PM that night! Nice to see Lion Ride back in Sault Ste. Marie itself, it's been a while! And for those of you not going to Hempfest, you'll still get a chance to see these guys, and for free too (Cause Coch's has no cover!) I'll keep you guys posted on any updates on this show as I hear them, and for the other upcoming Coch's Corner shows featuring Old Roger, Time, and Ultraviolence! And check out Lion Ride at their official MySpace page!

Next up, Lansing experimental metal band Mr. Denton On Doomsday are returning to Sault Michigan this coming Thursday! Sorry for the short notice, I just heard about this show today. You may remember these guys from a birthday party concert last month, but now, they're here for a special cause. Mr. Denton On Doomsday are hosting a special benefit show for the McCorckle family, whose 11 year old daughter needs a heart transplant. They're hoping to raise $25,000 to cover the surgery.

This show will take plase at The Big Bear Arena (across the road from Kewadin Casino, inside the Chi Muk Wa Community Recreation Center) at 8:00 PM on Thursday! Here's hoping they raise the money for that little girl, and it's real nice of Mr. Denton On Doomsday to come back to the Sault and host this! Here's hoping it goes as well as they'd like, and if you can, go and support the cause!! Check out Mr. Denton On Doomsday at their official MySpace page too, cause they're not bad, and very original!

Now, guess what I have? TWO new local bands to add to the Local Metal Band Links....OK, they're not "new", or even active, but it's time to re-introduce them to you guys!

First, we have Lower S.E.S., a long since inactive metal band from Sault Michigan! They existed from 1994-1996, and seemed to have rose pretty high in a short period of time, including releasing an EP and backing up bands like Warrant, L.A. Guns, Vince Neil, and Slaughter! But don't let those bands fool you, Lower S.E.S. were far from glam metal. In fact, they seem to be more of a groove metal band, there's a definite Pantera influence with these guys!

Though they've been dead for 13 years, former bassist Erik Rintamaki (now of Brimley acoustic band Set To Random) has made up an official MySpace page for Lower S.E.S., which includes photos, lots of video clips, and all 5 songs from their only EP! They were good, and definitely should have lasted a lot longer! In fact, I may review the EP on the SMS one of these days! Check them out, and who knows, maybe you'll remember them!

The other new band I found (well, new to me) are The Arch-Angels Of The Apocalypse, a defunct metal band from Sault Michigan that appeared to be active in 2007. Not a lot else, though they did do a nice job making their profile! There's no audio or video, but their page suggests that Bullet For My Valentine were their main influence. Not a lot to speak of for these guys, but they were a local band, and they do have an internet presence, so they're on the SMS! Check them out at their official MySpace page!

Now, I have found two more bands looking for a booking in Sault Ontario! Can you guys help? Both are metal bands from Ottawa: Punk/metal band No Other Way and female fronted hardcore band Not Even Death. Both bands wanna play here, with No Other Way looking at a show September 6th, with Not Even Death scheduled for October 1st. Both bands are very talented, click on their names to visit their official MySpace pages! Anyone out there interested in booking these guys for their respective shows? If so, send them a message, cause it'd be awesome to have them both here in Sault Ste. Marie! The more shows, the better, right?

And finally, three quick news items:
  • Sault natives Detroit (Featuring 3 members of Lion Ride) will be playing another show in Toronto on August 25th at The Kathedral. More details are likely forthcoming, but I dunno. This show will come one week after their show August 18th at The Bovine Sex Club, also in Toronto!
  • I have added the official website for local promotional company New Era Design and Developments to the Other Local Metal Links. Run by Derek Pearce, New Era does band management and promotion, alongside other services related to film, audio, gaming, and website production. Stillbroke worked with these guys once! If you need New Era for band/music related services, why not send them a message?
  • And of course, as I promised, I posted a blue and black banner image with Sault Michigan bands at the top of the page. What do you guys think? Again, I picked bands by local notoriety and presence of an actual logo, so no offense is meant by excluding bands on this banner either. I'll alternate banners each week for the next while, I got some ideas for future banner images, so stay tuned!
That's all for today, I'll see you guys real soon! And if you're going to see Free Refill, Shift, or Quite Frankly this weekend, let us know! Thanks everyone!
