A New Local Show? Plus, Some Show Updates And Other News!

I'm baaaaack, and I got some assorted news to share! Nothing too "major", so to speak, but enough for a post, so let's begin with what may or may not turn into a LOCAL CONCERT ALERT! (Remember, for my double shot of Lion Ride reviews, check the two posts immediately below this one!)

During some net searching on my spare period today, I came across a new show listing from Sault Ontario hardcore band Out Of The Mouth Of Babes (that's the band featuring 4/5ths of the final As It Stands lineup!) According to their MySpace page, they are scheduled for a show on September 20th at The Oddfellows Hall, featuring Toronto hardcore band Abandon All Ships! I did more searching, and have came across nothing else that confirms this show...yet. Abandon All Ships don't mention it on their MySpace, there's no word of it on Facebook, and I can't find anything else about it from any other sites. I'll be sure to keep you guys updated if I hear any confirmation of the show! If it happens, I believe this will be Out Of The Mouth Of Babes' first local concert, which would be exciting!

And now, some more updates on some local shows! First up, Sault Michigan's own Bad Side have posted a pair of Facebook event pages for their shows at The Rapids Lounge at Kewadin Casino this weekend! You don't see that too much from bands across the river! I can confirm from both that the shows will start at 9:00 PM both nights, but information is incredibly minimal. I can confirm from the wall on their Facebook page that these concerts are part of Kewadin's Labour Day Concert Weekend, which concludes with the two ZZ Top concerts on Sunday and Monday night! To confirm your attendance for both shows, visit this link for the Friday concert, and this link for the show on Saturday!

Next up, I've got a bunch of updates on Quite Frankly's upcoming performance at the Sault Steelers game on September 19th! They will be playing AFTER the game, which will be at Rocky DiPietro Field at The John Rhodes Center at 4:15 PM that day! Tickets are just $10, and are available at The Canadian (which re-opens TOMORROW), Four Seasons Collectibles in The Station Mall, The Duke of Windsor Sport Shop on Queen Street East, and at the pro shop at The Soo Pee Wee Arena! And for you football fans, the Steelers will play the Edmonton Stallions for the Canadian Major Football League championship! If you're interested in the big game, or you wanna hear some hard rock, this could be up your alley! To confirm your attendance, visit this location to see the Facebook event page!

Well, the era of Northern Ontario Hempfest has came to a close, and I've heard some good things out of it so far. Press-wise, however, it's just been about the R.I.D.E. program, which checked over 1,000 cars this weekend! The final tally of charges can be found here on SooToday, which includes numerous charges, a few driving suspensions, and 5 unsafe vehicle removals, among other things found by the cops. Again, I honestly understand the cops' angle here, but nothing bad is happening at Hempfest, marijuana isn't a bad drug, and these guys just wanna go party, light one up, and enjoy themselves. I personally wouldn't smoke anything, but I know better that these aren't the people that are worth busting, ESPECIALLY on the very last Hempfest. Leave them alone!!! Check out the full article on SooToday at this location!

Two more tiny updates to end today: First, remember a few months ago when I mentioned that Foggy Notions appeared to be re-opening? Well, it appears the wheels might be turning a bit faster for their grand return! A post on their official page says they are hoping to have an official re-opening date for us all by the end of the week! Stay tuned to their official Facebook page for updates as they come in! And finally, local hard rockers Half Past (formerly known as Fingerbone) are looking to return to the local concert scene, and they want some bands to play with! Are you or your band interested in joining Half Past for a concert? Send the band a message through their official Facebook page!

That's all I have for today, stay tuned for some exciting news this week, including a new local band, previews for this weekend's Ultraviolence and Bad Side shows, and hopefully much more! Stay tuned, and if you metalheads see me on campus at LSSU, stop and say hey!

Dude,
You cover Badside, Quite Frankly, and Stillbroke but you totally ignore one of the best local acts in this region, (who happen to be friends with Badside). FYI Gsis Murphy has been playing for over eight years and they pack in the bars.
Sure they play cover tunes but so do half of the bands you discuss on your site. They also have a myspace page and play almost every weekend.

I am dumbfounded as to how you bypass the success of this band. Have you never heard of this band? Everytime I go to Docks and they are playing there are solid crowds. Is it because they are not a metal act? They play a variety of 80's rock not much different then Badside, and they lay it down. Ask the musicians; the women?

I also heard that they are working on an original album.

You should add Gsis Murphy to your site. They have clearly earned a spot.

Faithful reader Mike

Thanks for the comment! I just never saw Gsis Murphy as "heavy" enough, so to speak. However, they're really good, musically, I'm very impressed!

I've came across their page a lot, believe me, but they've just never came across as "metal" enough. There's other bands around town that I'm fans of musically, but haven't made their way here either.

Believe me, no offense or neglect is meant in excluding them, I just try and keep everything as "metal-centric" as possible. But I do like Gsis Murphy and should go see them one of these days!

Gsis murphy.....give it up. They are a cover band that plays to back up tracks and have fake marshall stacks.

Back up tracks?
Fake Marshall stacks?
Get your story straight brother.
Need we get into a discussion about the professional use of music technology? I guess you should cross out one quarter of today's live acts who use tracked vocals or midi (including metal bands) because they suck right? It's a shame that some people still live in caves. They do have real equipment; they are talented musicians; they play good tunes and they have made it out of the garage unlike yourself.
I think you should get your eyes checked and while your at it get the wax out of your ears too.
The Murf rocks...

Ok everyone, please keep things respectful, not everyone shares the same taste in music, and certain people will have differing opinions. No need for things to get too out of hand.

GOOOOO MURFFFFFF.

and anyone should listen to your music advise when you are trying to get a dance bar band on a metal web site.

yippeeeeeeee

no offense to you boys arguing here, but #1. what is wrong with garage bands, a lot of the garage bands I have heard put a lot of bands on this site to shame. #2. don't spout off with the b.s with the musical technology crap. That is why a lot of bands suck right now because they get together for a month, then mix a cd with fake b.s and people like you go "oh wow they are great". Then you see them at a show and it is just noise. It doesnt even resemble thier mix.You would be the type that would say" oh its because they are live" GIVE ME A BREAK..... Bands should get together,,jam,,,,do shows....you know do some work, let people hear the real music, get a fan base for what they really sound like,THEN go to the studio. This shit with bands putting out recordings with fake tracks before anyone even hears them is bullshit. If you got a problem with that you really need to wake up.

Whatever: Nothing like taking a conversation on an entirely different tangent; no more medicating before you post okay...

Pick up an instrument and play; do what you want, I really don't care; maybe take some english comprehension classes too.

What was wrong with what dude wrote. He may have been off a bit, he probably did not fully understand the post. What he did say was totally bang on, as a matter of fact it was perfect. Your retort on the other hand....why did you not proclaim that you were just going to take your ball and bat and trudge on home. He was a total pro in his post, didn't rip on anyone, then you have the gall to insult his English...you a**. Maybe he was right....grow up!!!

"He may have been off a bit, he probably did not fully understand the post. What he did say was totally bang on, as a matter of fact it was perfect."

He was off a bit, he did not fully understand, but he was bang on perfect: Why don't both of you take English then?...

I am done here. There is just nothing good about illiterate rambling. My Dad always said "Stay in school"; now I know why.

You should of listened to your Dad when he told you about acting like a man. What a total asshole.....

How typical is the behavior of the North American asshole, when cornered by common sense, he attacks something that has zip to do with the convo. So what, the English language was not being used properly. You obviously understood it. You fucking idiot. The arrogance shown even in your first post to Rob shows how much of an asshole you are. Who the fuck do you think you are that you come on someones site and start talking like your a musical genius. Just by you singing the praises of a cover band like gsis murphy tells me what were dealing with.......an asshole. Another thing your father should of slapped into that stupid melon of yours is......if you act like an asshole, your gonna get treated like an asshole. Excuse my English....asshole.

That good sir is what I call a comeback.......

Did I just read that right? Someone wants Gsis Murphy to be rewarded with coverage on this site?
Is this not the band who use to play songs like Kung Fu Fighting and Rasputin? Now that's awful.
Not what I'd call metal or even rock music. |O|
Anyone else notice that the original post was pretty thick with ego?
I personally think there are far superior musicians to Gsis Murphy. That's pretty much a no brainer. Perhaps they might be rewarded on the Martha Stewart Forum? Just a suggestion.|O| :-)

Holy crap, I didn't expect things to get so out of hand. Please guys, let's try to make peace. Everyone has different musical tastes. I don't expect or want comments to degrade to this level.

I appreciate not dragging me into this on negative levels, but I don't wanna see this kind of attacking and insulting, no matter the reason. We all like certain kinds of music, and no one's perfect when it comes to spelling (I certainly am not.)

Above all else, I want things to be respectful and conflict-free here as much as possible. This is why I stay as impartial as possible to "metal" bands of all types, and for the bands that don't count as metal, I never once disrespect their musical genre, abilities, passion, or success. I allow swearing and opinions to be shared, but please try and refrain from this kind of arguing, OK?

Thanks for reading the SMS though, I value every hit!
